Path of currently selected item in Finder

Ladies and Gents,
I'm working with Finder, trying to get hold of the path of the currently selected document. I can get through two of the three required steps, but the last part eludes me. Can you help please?
I can get the current selection no problem:
tell application "Finder"
set soko to selection
end tell
this returns the selected items - even if more than one is highlighted. How cool is that:
{folder "opt" of startup disk of application "Finder", folder "Library" of startup disk of application "Finder", folder "Developer" of startup disk of application "Finder"}
I can even select one of the entries:
tell application "Finder"
set soko to selection
set koko to the first item of soko
end tell
this gives:
folder "opt" of startup disk of application "Finder"
However I don't know how to convert that verbose description of the location to a plain old path such as:
/opt (POSIX)
or
:opt: (Mac)
The verbose description seems to be called a "reference", but how to convert it to a path eludes me. Can you help?
  Mac OS X (10.4.2)

path to v : Return the full path to the specified folder
Definition of path to is misleading.
It says: Return the full path to the specified folder.
but it actually means: Return the full path to the predefined folder. In this case the predefined folder can be one of the following:
application support/applications folder/desktop/desktop pictures folder/documents folder/favorites folder/Folder Action scripts/fonts/help/home folder/internet plugins/keychain folder/library folder/modem scripts/movies folder/music folder/pictures folder/preferences/printer descriptions/public folder/scripting additions/scripts folder/shared documents/shared libraries/sites folder/startup disk/startup items/system folder/system preferences/temporary items/trash/users folder/utilities folder/workflows folder/voices/apple menu/control panels/control strip modules/extensions/launcher items folder/printer drivers/printmonitor/shutdown folder/speakable items/stationery
Those are system predefined folders.
Now, I think what you want to get at is POSIX path of the selected folder, yes?
In that case, you use POSIX path of
-- begin
tell application "Finder"
set loco to selection
if the number of items in loco is greater than 0 then
set koko to the first item of loco
else
set koko to insertion location
end if
-- at this point, koko is a full path to the selection, or first item of it
-- return koko -- remove the comment, you'll see
set soco to (POSIX path of (koko as string)) -- this convert HFS+ format to POSIX format
end tell
-- end

  • Oracle Forms: getting currently selected item in List

    I've noticed that the method isItemSelected in the oracle.oats.scripting.modules.formsFT.common.api.elements.List class doesn't appear to work. In the drop down lists that I've tested, it always returns true for any item that is in the list (ie the same as isItemInList returns).
    Is there any way to figure out what item is selected in a drop down list in Oracle Forms?

    Hi,
    I am also trying the same for a Select field in a Web application. .selectOptionByText works for input but to get a value from a select box. .getSelectedValue() is not working and also .getSelectedText() is also not working. Not able to get a value at runtime from a select field. Also how to retrive all the options present in a select field in a web application.
    Alex can you help on this.
    Thanks

  • Select item in list box using code

    We use Adobe Workflow v5. I am creating a Check Request application where users type information into various fields and when they click Add, the data is added to a List Box. Also when they click Add, if the current item is >$1,000, a query searches our accounting database to see if the client has outstanding AR older than 90 days. If they do, another list box is displayed with the client name and amount of outstanding AR.
    If that clientnum is already in the second list box, it does not add another one.
    To delete a record from the first list box, the users select the item in the first list box, and then click a Delete button. That deletes the
    record in the first list box.
    I am also trying to delete the record from the second list box but am not sure how to select it using code. As part of the Delete button code, if the currently selected item (the one they want to delete) is >$1,000, I go through each row of the first list box to see if clnum.text (field in the form where the record to be deleted is now displayed) matches the client number in column 4 of any row of the first list box. If it does, I see if the amount of the item in the first list box is >$1000.
    If it is, then I know that there is a corresponding record in the second list box.
    Here is some of the code:
    'go through each row in first list box
    For irow = 1 to lstExp.ListCount
    'set clientnum variable equal to client # in row in first list box
    clientnum = lstExp.RetrieveItem(irow,4)
    'if clientnum variable is equal to client # to be deleted from first list box (selected record - client # in clnum.text now)
    if clientnum = trim(clnum.text) then
    'if amt is >$1,000 in first list box
    if lstExp.RetrieveItem(irow,10) > 1000 then
    'don't delete row because there is another record in first list box
    DeleteOutAR = "N"
    else
    'delete row because there is NOT another record in first list box.
    DeleteOutAR = "Y"
    end if
    end if
    Next
    Here is the code I need help with. I am unsure how to select the record in the second list box so I can delete it.
    if DeleteOutAR = "Y" then
    'go to second list box ?
    form.GoToField(lstOutARUnbilled)
    'start going through second list box looking for clientnum
    For irow2 = 1 to lstOutARUnbilled.ListCount
    if clientnum = lstOutARUnbilled.RetrieveItem(irow2,1) then
    irow2 = lstOutARUnbilled.CurrentSelection
    lstOutARUnbilled.Removeitem (irow2)
    end if
    next
    end if
    So my question is, how can I move to the second list box to actually delete the record?
    Thank you in advance for any help.
    Mary

    Mary-
    The solution could either be quite easy or difficult dependent upon how the data is arranged in the subsequent list box.
    Basically, if there is any sort of corresponding or matching entries, meaning line 1 from list box #1 matches with line 1 of listbox #2, then you would simply execute the following...
    "listbox#2.RemoveItem listbox#1.CurrentSelection"
    Or if you have a column that would contain the same values, say an index, then you could just loop thru the 2nd listbox searching for that index and once found remove the line...
    "listbox#2.RemoveItem nRow"
    , where nRow would be the line that you discovered to have the matching index.

  • How to move to the next Selected Item in a list.

    *Edited*
    I was just wondering how I could make a button which would move the currently selected item to the next in the array loaded into a List component. I would think to do it through AS or an event, but I'm not sure what I would reference in accordance to that component. The help would be appreciated, thank you.

    You can set the selectedIndex. When next button is clicked increment the selectedIndex.
    If( list.selectedIndex < list.dataProvider.length - 1 )
         list.selectedIndex++;

  • WARNING: ADFv: Could not find selected item matching value ...

    Using Windows JDev 11.1; I have an entity object with an attribute which has a LOV configured to supply a select-one-choice render. The LOV query requires that a bind variable be supplied. When creating a new record in the entity via the VO, I can use the ViewImpl to create a new row, retrieve the RowSet which corresponds to the attribute LOV query, set the named where clause parameter, and I'm away. When updating however, I'm getting the following error reported:
    09/12/2009 2:44:04 PM oracle.adfinternal.view.faces.model.binding.FacesCtrlListBinding getInputValue
    WARNING: ADFv: Could not find selected item matching value EMPLOYER of type: java.lang.String in the list-of-values.
    I can't supply the bind variable value before the row is instantiated (and presumably populated with the current value/key) because the View Accessor RowSet is only accessible via the RowImpl. If after the query has executed, I apply the bind variable value, re-execute the RowSet query, I can see that it's populated, and I can create a RowSetIterator to loop through the LOV RowSet and confirm that the key/value is there. I can even setCurrentRow on the RowSet but I still find that the above error appears in the serve log output seemingly after all this code executes.
    So my question is what is the technique for supplying bind variables to attribute LOV View Accessors as part of an underlying EO object query.
    In the run-time, the list items appear unpopulated (current value and list items). If I reload the page, it all comes up fine, which could tend to suggest that a PPR event might fix me up, but I would prefer to know how this should be done.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Is your issue resolved. I'm facing similar issue. I have created a viewaAccessors in EO, associated these to ViewObject attributes as List of Values.
    I created the table in UI using the ViewObject.
    I see those as selectOneChoice but not values (Empty list).
    If I create new record in the table by CreateInsert. table now shows the ListOfvalues.
    any Idea what am I missing.
    Thanks,
    Satya

    Hello,
    I get the following error with my selectOneChoice components:
    WARNING Could not find selected item matching value "null" in CoreSelectOneRadio[UIXEditableFacesBeanImpl, id=dyna_2709976_11]
    It seem that the component looks for a selectItem object qith its value set to null, so I tried to add one with a null value to no avail. The error don't cause any problem on the rendered page but it might spam the log when many users will be connected. Anyone every got this error and found a fix to stop it from appearing?
    Regards,

    you said you're using selectOneChoice but the error says radio. Is the information correct?

  • Could not find selected item matching value "New" warning message in ADF

    Hi,
    I have a selectOneChoice1 for a field which has the following fixed values in it. And while creating it, I selected the 'SelctionRequired' option so that this field will always have a value.
    New
    Pending
    Completed.
    While navigating to this page, I am trying to set the value to 'New' (Retrieved from the DB) in the backing bean. But when the page is rendered, the above field is empty with the above options in the list and jdev has the follwing error message in its log.
    WARNING: Could not find selected item matching value "New" in CoreSelectOneChoice[UIXEditableFacesBeanImpl, id=selectOneChoice1]
    Can any one help me with this issue?
    Thanks,
    Priya

    The value of a list binding is the zero-based integer position in the list that is selected, not the actual underlying value.
    The simplest way to set the value of an attribute is to use an attribute binding (which can be bound to the same attribute as the list binding). When you set the value of an attribute binding, it sets the value as you supply it. Otherwise, you'd need to set the list binding's value to the numerical "slot" number of the one you want to change the value to.

    I am trying to run a PowerShell script to upload files into a SharePoint site in an Azure environment...the script works fine on my local machine, but every time I run it in Azure (remotely), I get errors. Here is what my simple script looks like...

    Again, I can run this on my local machine and it works just fine, but when I attempt to run it on the Azure environment I get this error...
    Get-Item : Cannot find path 'C:\powershellscripts\12653_B7045.PDF' because it does not exist.

    What strikes me first is the fact that the file its looking for is in the "C:\Upload\Test Upload\My Documents\" directory, but the error keeps saying "C:\powershellscripts\" which is where my script resides and not the files I want to
    upload into SharePoint. When I step through the code, all the variables are holding the correct values. The $localFolderPath shows the name of files that I am attempting to upload, so it recognizes them. But once I step through this particular line of code,
    the error occurs...
    $files = ([System.IO.DirectoryInfo] (Get-Item $localFolderPath)).GetFiles()
    Is this an error caused because I am remoting into the Azure environment? Has anyone dealt with this issue before? I would really appreciate the help. Thanks
    Update: quick thing I noticed is that these two lines of code are returning null values. Again, is this handled differently in Azure or remotely? I ask cause this is the way I know how to do this, locally.
    $docLibrary = $web.Lists[$docLibraryName]
    $files = ([System.IO.DirectoryInfo] (Get-Item $localFolderPath)).GetFiles()

    "...square brackets are wildcard characters in Windows PowerShell..."
    When you use cd without a parameter it uses the -Path parameter. In this case you'll have to escape the square brackets so they are not considered wildcards. Each of the commands in the first example does the exact same thing.
    cd 'Learn PowerShell `[Do Whatever`]'
    cd -Path 'Learn PowerShell `[Do Whatever`]'
    cd (or Set-Location) also has a literal path parameter (-LiteralPath) that does not require using an escape character (`) before each of the brackets. Hope this helps.
    cd -LiteralPath 'Learn PowerShell [Do Whatever]'

  • How to display the current name when renaming Finder item

    Is there any way to get Automator to display the current name of a Finder item when renaming an item?
    I want my users to be able to copy and rename a folder template but I want to display the folder template's current name as a default in the renaming dialogue window, so the user follows the correct naming format.

    Since you've already hacked into it, if you've got developer tools installed, it is most likely in the nib file that is in the English project folder in the Resources.
    I don't know what further implications that will have on the app in general, though.
    If you are a little adept at applescript, you may want to create your own Applescript Studio app to do this instead of Automator. Also, take a look at Platypus to make a wrapper around you applescript instead of AS Studio.

    how to find the selected item in alv grid or table control

    In table control, If you goto screen painter and goto table control properties ( f2 ), there is one check-box w/selColumn check that and give column name. Then add that column to your internal table.
    IN PAI
      LOOP AT it_tkhdr.
        FIELD it_tkhdr-sel_row
          MODULE tab_tkhdr_mark ON REQUEST.
      ENDLOOP.
    MODULE tab_tkhdr_mark INPUT.
      MODIFY it_tkhdr INDEX tc_tkhdr-current_line.
    ENDMODULE.                 " tab_tkhdr_mark  INPUT
    here it_TKHDR is internal table sel_row is field for selection
    After that, you can loop at it_tkhdr where sel_row is 'X' to get selected rows.

There should not be a provision to select Employee with out selecting the corresponding Department (root node in the tree).
    I am facing the below issues while trying to implement this use case:
    1. Always, only the first master record will be expanded by default (I am using "Display Row" property value as "default" and "ExpandAllEnabled" as "true"). My need is to expand all the master records by default. So that user need not explicitly expand each master record node and then select the associated child records.
    2. Currently, I am using value change listener associated to af:selectBooleanCheckBox to identify the Departments and Employee records that have been selected. Since not all departments (masters) are expanded by default, if user selects the check box of department (master) and then expands the department node, automatically all the employees of that department are selected. But, this event is not triggering the value change listener for the employee records. Because of this, after a department node is selected and then expanded, all the child elements' check boxes are selected but the events are not generated. Hence, I am not able to capture the selection of employee records.
    To summarize,
    1. Please let me know how to expand all master nodes in af:Tree by default.
    2. Please let me know the best approach to identify the selected items (both master and detail items) in the af:Tree component using af:selectBooleanCheckBox.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rathnam

  • How to find out the selected item in the lsit

    Hi all,
    How to find out the selected item in the list,can any please post some examples which easy to understand,because iam not a good programmer

    This sample program uses a checkbox as selection,  you could also use a HOTSPOT.
    report zrich_0002 no standard page heading.
    data: imara type table of mara with header line.
    data: check_box(1) type c,
       report_lines type i.
    start-of-selection.
    * Create the gui status with BACK button in standard place
    * and a READ button in the application toolbar
      set pf-status 'CHECK'.
    select * into corresponding fields of table imara           from mara up to 100 rows.
    loop at imara.
    write:/ check_box as checkbox, imara-matnr, imara-matkl.
    hide imara-matnr.
    endloop.
      report_lines  = sy-linno - 1.
    top-of-page.
    write: 'List of materials'.  uline.
    top-of-page during line-selection.  write:  'Material.....'.  uline.
    at user-command.
    case sy-ucomm.
    when 'READ'.
      check_box = space.
    set pf-status 'CHECK' excluding 'READ'.
          do report_lines times.
    read line sy-index field value check_box.
       if check_box = 'X'.
    write:/  'You have selected material',
    imara-matnr.
    endif.
      enddo.
    endcase.

  • Script to find name of swatch pattern of selected item

    I'm confused on the code to find the name of swatch pattern of selected item. As an example, the following code works to find the name of a selected item.
    var newItem;
    var docSelected = app.activeDocument.selection;
    if ( docSelected.length > 0 ) {
    for ( i = 0; i < docSelected.length; i++ ) {
    var swatchRefName=docSelected[i].name;
    alert(swatchRefName);
    else {
    alert( "Please select one or more art objects" );
    To find the swatch name, my idea would be to change
    var swatchRefName=docSelected[i].swatch.name;
    obviously this doesn't work or many other versions I've tried, Can any one help? Thank You.

    Hi Basva,
    There might be an easier way, but this should work:
    foreach($item in $list.Items)
    $minor = 0
    $major = 0
    foreach($version in $item.Versions)
    if($version.Level -eq "Draft")
    $minor += 1
    else #Assume Level must be Published
    $major += 1
    #The variables $minor and $major will now hold
    #the correct number of versions for this item

  • Get current page or page of selected item

    Hello,
    I' d like get the current page in Indesign or (if this is not possible) the page of a selected object.
    How could I implement this?
    var page = app.selection[0].page;
    does not work.
    Thanks and kind regards,
    mannyk

    Another way getting that done is based upon what is your current
    selection.
                    var myPg=getPage(app.selection[0]);
                    alert (myPg.name);
    function getPage(theObj)
    if (theObj.constructor.name == "Page") return theObj;
    if (theObj.constructor.name == "Character" || theObj.constructor.name ==
    "Paragraph")
    return getPage(theObj.parentTextFrames[0]);
    if (theObj.constructor.name == "Application")
    // Frame is on an unexpected place...
    alert ("Can't able to find the page");
    exit(0);
    return getPage(theObj.parent);
