Patterns used in J2EE Blueprints

Does it specify anywhere exactly what patterns are used in the Blueprints and what components/beans/classes map to each pattern ?
Thanks very much
P.

Go to http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/J2EE/patterns/ and click on J2EE Patterns Catalog for a better explanation of the patterns and how/when to use them. These are based on the book Core J2EE pattrens- Best practices and design strategies. You can download example source code from http://www.phptr.com/corej2eepatterns/

    hi, i need to develop a web application using j2ee patters. but i have no idea where to start. can i use the WAF which comes with petstore application or is there a place where i can download J2EE BluePrints Web Application Framework ("WAF) APIs. i know for using struts, i have to download struts package from apache.org, but don't know how to use J2EE BluePrints Web Application Framework ("WAF"). can someone plz suggest me a way to start developing a application using j2ee patterns.
    Thanks for ur help

    At the end of application designing, identify for potential problems from the list of design patterns, if you find a problem then you apply that pattern.
    Don't start with design patterns because it says design or the design patterns is the buzz word.

  • J2EE Blueprint document template

    I am working on create a j2ee blueprint for our organisation. I kink of know what to include in this document (guidelines, standards, best practices, etc.).
    However, just want to ask if there is any exemples and template to create such document/s.
    Thanks

    Frankly if you dont already know what to include, you should just put a copy of Sun's Core J2ee Patterns book (http://java.sun.com/blueprints/corej2eepatterns/index.html) on every developers desk. A copy of Rogue Waves 'Elements of Java Style would be an excellent supplement.

    Sorry, you aren't going to get a "detailed" explanation of such a vague question. And you aren't going to get any explanation from me because you asked for answers to be e-mailed to you. For all I know somebody has e-mailed you the answer already, so I could be wasting my time answering.

  • Regarding the Customer Setup for ISA B2B using SAP J2EE 6.4 and NWDS

    Hi
    Does someone knows how we can setup a customer project using
    SAP J2EE 6.4 and NWDS.
    I've tried to setup the project but facing a weird problem..
    I've ISAWAC640SP11 and ant buildtool to build the application.
    I didn't get any "sda_build.xml" in this patch (ISAWAC640SP11).
    i've used "sda_build.xml" of ISAWAC40SP11.
    I've build the application using build tool but when i try to deploy it
    on SAP J2EE 6.4 using SDM i get a weird message stating
    <b>"com.sap.sdm.util.sduread.IllFormattedSduFileException: The archive must be deployed with a 6.20 SDM, which has a SDM-SDA compatible version 1 or greater."</b>
    Does anyone knows from where can i get the sda_build.xml file compatible with
    ISAWAC640SP11 ??
    Also can some one suggest me to setup a customer project for extension and
    modification of ISA B2B 640 on NWDS and SAP J2EE 6.4....
    Thanks & Regards
    Sandeep Solanki

    Hi,
    I am Rajesh..and it seems that you and I are facing the same problem. Well, I am really finding it hard to find material like PDF's files on Build Tool. and ISA Development and Extension Guide.
    I would really appreaitate if you could send me some material. Well, My project is very simple and I have been given the task to first submit a simple demo of B2C on R/3 system. ( Not CRM ). I have also installed the NWDS and everything including the ISA WAC Java components. I am having real hard time in modifying them....
    Can you please shed light on it...You can also email to me at [email protected]
    Thanks in Advance for your kind consideration.

  • PSE4: Creating Patterns; Using Drop Shadow

    Hello:
    1. I been making a few patterns using the Define Pattern from selection. The problem is, I'm getting hard edges and not a smooth flow pattern when I apply it. What is the trick in getting to make patterns that flow smoothly?
    2. I been using the Layer Styles Drop Shadow. It only seems to drop shadow bottom left. Is there a way to have the drop shadow in other directions?
    XP Pro SP2
    Thanks, Tony C

    Thank You Wendy and Terri for the information. It's what I was after and more. Found something new again that I wasnt aware of. Ctrl+I and matching the size of the mask photo to the main photo and centering it as well. Really a ton of other info as well that will take some time to digest.
    Again Thanks-A-Bunch!
    Hmmm, hope I can ask one more question. Is there a way to clear the "Open Recently Edit File" list? I can set it to show "zero", but that just hides the listing. When I enter 5 again, they show up again. I like to keep a listing of 5, but also like to clear it and have it start over again.

  • The "ValueList Handler" pattern in "Core j2ee patterns(2nd ed)"

    In the book "Core j2ee patterns(2nd ed)", it suggests that the "ValueList Handler" pattern can be used when the resultset from database is huge.
    Basically, this is what it will do:
    1) obtain a resultset from database query
    2) cache the full resultset using a valueList
    3) create a subList from the valueList
    4) present the subList to the front end
    To me, caching the full resultset in a valueList is no different from sending the full resultset to the front end. Both of them wasted a lot of resources. I am wondering why anyone would want to do the step(2) above. Why don't we go from (1) to (3) directly since we usually know which subset of the results the users are interested in even before we do the query.

    Hi
    Same problem I also need to clarify. Please some one
    explain in detail which approach give high
    performance.
    BR
    SenakaExactly, I don't understand why that "ValueList Handler" pattern qualified itself as a j2ee pattern since it has so much negative perfomance impacts.
    On a website like Amazon, thousands of queries are performed daily. To cache the full resultset of every query simply wouldn't work.
    I think the most efficient way is to write a disconnected resultset so it won't tie to the database. The disconnected resultset will only contains those data to be display on the front end.
    I would really like to see somthing like the following in the JDBC API.
    ResultSet rs = null; // some resultset
    ResultSetFilter filter = null;  // a filter to filter resultsets
    // obtain a disconnected resultset from java.sql.ResultSet
    DisconnectedResultset drs = DisconnectedResultset.filter(rs, filter);
    // close the original resultset
    rs.close();In the above, anything that meets the condition specified in the filter will be stored in the disconnected resultset. After we created a disconnected resultset, it is safe to close the original resultset to release any database resources.

  • J2EE BluePrints: correct location for common Java source files

    I have a set of Java source files that are common between multiple J2EE applications.
    Within the J2EE package hierarchy, what is the correct location for these files?
    Also, is there a typical package name that common Java source files are grouped under?

    HI,
    There is no standard place. In the blueprints project conventons
    http://java.sun.com/blueprints/code/projectconventions.html it has a place called components/ which would contain shared components like EJBs and other components that could be shared across applications. the package naming would be reflected in that, like com.sun.blueprints.application1. and com.sun.blueprints.application2. and com.sun.blueprints.common.*
    Generally you could put a directory at the same level as the apps (not inside an app's directory structure) and maybe called common/ or shared/ . This common code could be built separtely and into a binary library or jar that you just include in the other applicatons, in the same way you would include some external library jar that you got somewhere and keep in your workspace and your apps use. The packaging of common code is similiar to the packaging of different applications and shared components.

  • Calling a servlet from a JSP page using the J2EE reference implementation

    I have a JSP with an include tag as follows: <jsp:include page="servlet/ConnectionServlet" flush="true" />
    When I use JRUN it works fine. I created an ear file and ported
    the application to the J2EE reference implementation. When running the app under the J2EE reference implementation the ConnectionServlet is never called. I figured it must a deployment issue. I tried adding the ConnectionServlet.class file to the WEB-INF\classes file as servlet\ConnectionServlet.class but the JSP still can't find the servlet. Any ideas where I've gone wrong? TIA, Joe

    I have a JSP with an include tag as follows:
    <jsp:include page="servlet/ConnectionServlet"
    flush="true" />Basically, WEB-INF/classes gets added to the classpath, so the directory structure under this folder should be identical to your package structure. If the ConnectionServlet.class is not actually in a package, then it should be directly in WEB-INF/classes (ie if "servlet" isn't actually the name of your package, don't use a WEB-INF/classes/servlet/" directory).
    Then try taking out the "servlet" from your include tag, so you just have page="/ConnectionServlet" (not sure about the leading slash - try experimenting!)
    if this doesn't work, try adding this to your WEB-INF/web.xml file:
    <web-app><!-- the web-app tags may already be there - don't add more -->
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>ConnectionServlet</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>your.full.package.here.ConnectionServlet</servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>ConnectionServlet</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/ConnectionServlet</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    </web-app>
    Good Luck!

  • How do I use the J2EE EJB container with the FULL version of Tomcat

    The version of Tomcat integrated in J2EE is really cut-down. I want to be able to run the standard Tomcat 4.0.1 to give the full JSP facilities, but I also want to be able to use EJBs from the J2EE.
    If I copy the j2ee.jar, j2ee-ri-svc.jar and home interface to the "lib" directory they do not appear to be loaded, as I cannot resolve the javax.ejb.EJBHome.class.
    If I copy the same library into the application's WEB-INF/lib directory then the naming jaxax.naming.InitialContext gives a context without the java:/comp/env entries.
    I do not want to use another EJB contrainer after having got used to deploying apps with J2EE.
    If anyone can help I would be greatful, and post a thanks message with duke dollars!
    Chris
    10 Duke Dollars available

    I have done it before and basically it is not that difficult, but in practice not that easy ;-)
    All you need to do is see Tomcat as a client to the EJBs. This means deploying the application in two parts: the webapp as a WAR to Tomcat 4.0.1, and the EJBs to J2EE. Both running and started independantly.
    This ofcourse means that the WAR file must have the stubs of the EJBs to be able to communicate and access to j2ee.jar to get the InitialContext.
    So:
    - compile the EJBs
    - create the EAR (containing only EJBs)
    - deploy the EAR
    - copy the stubs to the libs directory of the webapp
    - compile the webapp
    - create the WAR
    - deploy the WAR
    Off you go.

  • How to dynamically assign Display Pattern using FormCalc in Adobe PDF Form

    I am using Adobe PDF Form Designer. I am trying to dynamically assign a display pattern like MM/DD/YYYY to the Field tab - Display Pattern property. May I know how to do that?
    I am using FormCalc scripting.

    hi,
    After placing the date field in layout from data view, u will get tabs like field,layout,border etc..
    In field tab under the edit pattern specify the pattern in which you want to display the date field.
    hope this works.
