I recently had my Hard Drive changed in my HP and the CD/DVD drive was working fine...then about a month ago the door won't open and it stopped reading every cd/dvd i put in...it won't read blanks or movies or audio cds/dvds...I also have a yellow question marke by PCI Device...CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME?

do you have the win 7 cd handy, try to boot into the discs and see whether that works, this will tell you whether that is software or hardware problem. Such failures do occur, due to ageing of laser.

You are going to need to replace the drive. It is not terribly difficult or expensive. Post back if you want to try to do it and we can link you to the proper Manual and if you tell us where you live (country) we can tell you where to buy it at a good price.

  • HP Pavilion DV7 2206TX - DVD drive reads DVDs but not CD's

My HP Pavilion DV7 2206TX - DVD drive reads DVDs but not CD's.
When I insert a CD, the drive tries very hard to read the CD but gives up after about a minute.
I get no error message.  I do not see the Auto play message.
Windows Explorer does not recognize the DVD drive.
When I insert a DVD, I get the Autoplay menu, Windows Explorer recognize the drive and the DVD. I can play the DVD using any number of Video players.
I would welcome advice relating this problem.

your HP Pavilion needs a new DVD driver. I ran into many problems such as this when troubleshooting computers in school.
A DVD drive should play CD at any time:  While a CD driver will not play a DVD disc. Do not think there is a problem with sofware because it will only throw your troubleshooting skills  out the window and it will confuse you.

  • Dvd drive not worked properly

i have  hp pavilion dv4 series.my dvd drive not worked properly.for that purpose only i went 7 times in your service centre but they won't take action  till now .why u people do like this .i want explation and just change my  dvd drive that's all.

    tcrite,
Sounds like a bad drive...I would get a replacement. According to Accelerate Your Mac database, it should work without issue.
Just enter the model number of the drive and select your Powerbook G3 2000, and you will see four reports on this model.

    Hi,
Your Seagate update CD is to update the firmware for Seagate hard drives.
Did you try the tips in the post that I referenced above?
Error 31 indicates that the driver is not installing correctly.
Go to Device Manager, locate the CD/DVD drive, open up the CD/DVD drive, double click, click on the Driver tab, then uninstall the driver. Now reboot your PC and Windows will re-install the driver.

    Hi,
You could try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
If the above fix hasn't worked, try the following.  From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Click to open the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.  Right click on the first channel and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When uninstalled repeat the process for each channel.  Also if an ATA controller is listed, right click and uninstall this.  Again, do not delete drivers if asked.
Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  If your optical drive appears here, right click and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.
Restart your PC and let Windows re-install these devices.  Give it a minute or two, then see if the drive is working.
Let me know how it goes.

  • DVD drive not recognized because of a registry problem (Code 19). HP Pavilion dv6500

HP Pavilion dv6500, upgraded several years ago to Windows 7 32 bit. In the past few days I have noticed that the DVD/CD-ROM drive does not appear on My computer/ Windows Explorer. I also incidentally noted that my program "HP Total Care Advisor" no longer works: "HP Advisor has stopped working" is the error message I get when I double click the desktop Icon.  I have made no changes to the computer, nor have I installed any new software shortly before I noticed these problems.
I went through troubleshooting for most of today. The DVD drive does appear in BIOS and in the Device Manager. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the device and it's drivers. I believe the correct drivers are present but cannot be installed. I believe the problem is expressed in the following error message which I have obtained: "Windows cannot start this hardware device because it's configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged (code 19)."
When I saw this I thought a restore of Windows would do the trick. I went back to Feb. 1, 2012 but that did not help. Then I reversed that restore and went back to Jan 25, 2012. That did not help, so I reversed that restore and gave up on restore.
I have no experience in the registry, so if the solution is to make changes in the registry, I will need very specific instructions.
    Thank you,
    Allen Worrall

I did some further reading in the forums and tried a few things What fixed my problem was reinstalling iTunes because they just updated last week and that is when my problem started. After i reinstalled through the control panel (repair install) it worked again,

  • My CD/DVD Drive isn't recognized by device manager or my Pavilion dv6809wm anymore.

I have a Pavilion dv6809wm, and it originally had Vista 32 bit installed. I upgraded my RAM, hard drive and OS (to Windows 7 64-bit) about 2 months ago, and it was working great. Beginning of last week, my cd/dvd drive stopped working. I go into the device manager in the control panel, and it doesn't show any cd/dvd drives. I checked in the BIOS, and it is present there. The LED light is flashing. I went into the registration editor and removed the  upper filters, hoping that would fix it, but it is still flashing at me. I've tried using the Microsoft Mr. Fixit, and tried using the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter, as described at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 and http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Open-the-Hardware-and-Devices-troubleshooter . I've still got nothing. Any suggestions?

Well, now based on something that I saw when I hit escape at the hp splash screen makes me wonder if this truly is the problem... It said "No TPM or TPM has problem", which, when typed into Google, led me to another thread on the HP Support forum. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/HP-dv6810us-NO-TPM-or-TPM-has-problem-error-in-BIOS/t...  When I read through the thread and replies, I'm starting to see that this is endemic, that is, a problem that is common to Inspiron dv6000 series computers. I can't really afford a $250 solution, and I only spent $800 on the darn thing in the first place. I guess I'll have to revert to country boy mentality: use it up, make it work, make do with what you got.

  • HP Pavilion 500-018 Desktop PC DVD Drive not working

I have a HP Pavilion 500-018 Desktop PC with windows 8.1.  For some reason, the CD-ROM drive has stopped working.  When I put a disk in to install new software, it does not recognize that there is a disk in the drive.  I've tried updating the driver, etc.  Even in the file explorer, the drive does not show up.  About the only thing I can do it eject the disk.
Any help would be most appreciated.

  • My DVD drive is not working in my HP Pavilion DV 2715

Windows Vista 32-bit,  the drive stopped reading/writing DVDs but still reads CDs fine.  I have tried running the Microsoft Fix-it application, with no success. Drive will eject and give error to insert a disc, even thought there's a DVD already inserted. I don't think the drive is there for the DVD to read/work. In my computer it shows the CD drive, but no HP DVD drive!
Just want to get the DVD drive back working again....HELP =)

    Hi,
First, try following the procedure under the sub-heading 'Let me fix it myself' on the link below to remove the Upper and Lower filters if they are still present and see if this helps the issue.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116
If it still doesn't play DVDs, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.
