Payload type of wav files encoded with gms codec

Hello everybody,
I have an application which receives and plays alaw formated wav files using JMF(with the help of some additional libraries) . I want to use lower bandwidth for my application. A quick google search indicated that i can do this by using gsm format.
I have 2 questions:
1-) what are the differences between .gsm files and .wav files which are encoded with gsm codecs? Which one's quality is better? which one's compression ratio is better?
2-) which payload type should i use for wav files which are encoded with gsm codecs?
In [Rtp Payload list|http://www.iana.org/assignments/rtp-parameters] page, there is a gsm entry whose payload is 3. I suppose that is for files with gsm extension. I tried it but it didn't work with my wav sample (as u can guess it was encoded with gsm 6.10 codec)
Any suggestion is appreciated. If you have a comment about the main problem (which is using lower bandwidth for sending audio data) i would also like to hear it
Thanks in advance
btw i also tried this [gsm sample|http://www.nch.com.au/acm/sample.gsm] with payload 3.At first it worked but then strangely it played just static. In Sun's page it says gsm format is supported. I played both ulaw and alaw succesfully so i wonder what i am doing wrong. Do we need to tell the player that it is going to receive data in gsm format? I didnt do such a thing for u-law and a-law formats...

On the sender side, make your processor take in whatever kind of supported file you want. Set the processor to output your GSM mono, and then you can just use a Player to play it on the other side. It's really not very different than the examples...

When you're programming the tracks, and you're calling "setFormat" on them, just set their format to be gsm.
[http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/media/jmf/2.1.1/solutions/AVReceive.html] should be able to play this out of the box...

  • ITunes will not import .WAV files encoded by iTunes...

I just recently switched from a macbook pro running leopard to an imac with snow leopard. I needed to move my itunes to the new computer, but none of my wav files imported. On my macbook, I put the CD in and imported into iTunes directly using its own WAV encoder. All my mp3s imported fine. All the wav files play in quicktime and in preview.
I know that itunes does not recognize some wav types, but I used itunes' own encoder, so it doesn't make sense that itunes wouldn't recognize them now...I don't want to have to reimport or re-encode these with another program =(
    Thanks!

Are you positive they didn't import, or is it just that there aren't where you expect to find them? The thing about wav files is they don't accept tags, so if you import them they will just get added under the filename.
I would just copy across the whole media folder with libraries and all, then start iTunes with the option key held down and point it at the media folder. This will just use the library in its new location and you don't have to import, etc.

  • File encoded with x264 takes forever to load in Encore CS 5.5

I use Encore mostly because it takes h.264 video encoded with the x264 compressor, which provides much higher quality than any other compressor. The problem is that these files take forever to load. For example, right now I'm trying to load a video that is about 1 hour and 20 minutes long, encoded at 38 Mbps, and the file is 20.9 GBytes. Now it's 3 PM and I imported this file along with the AC3 file over an hour ago. The Encore process shows as not responding, but when I open the Windows 7 Resource Monitor, in the disk tab it shows that it's reading the video file at a rate of about 45 MB/s, so I didn't kill the Encore process. I know eventually it's going to stop and load the file, but I don't understand why it takes so long. The encoding parameters that I used in x264 are these:
    x264 --level 4.1 --bluray-compat --preset slow --bitrate 38000 --keyint 30 --min-keyint 2 --open-gop --weightp 0 --slices 4 --vbv-bufsize 30000 --vbv-maxrate 40000 --rc-lookahead 40 --tff --output "output" "input"
This comes from a family video that is 1080 59.94i. This time these two parameters appeared because I selected Blu-ray as the target:  --bluray-compat and --open-gop, which I don't normally use, but still, even when I don't use them, video encoded with x264 takes forever to load. Does anybody here know what could be the problem?

What's weird is last year I encoded a file that was almost two hours long and Encore took it without trouble, although it was CS5, not 5.5. Since I had kept the avs and bat files, and also the x264.exe from that encode, I brought them into the current working folder and I just modified the file names in the avs and bat files to point to the new avi and encode to the new h264 file. So I encoded this file, I imported it into Encore, and it still hangs. Maybe it was a change from CS5 to 5.1 that introduced a problem. x264 has been certified to be Blu-ray compliant since over a year ago, and I already put this file to a Blu-ray with TSMuxer, since it was a family video and I didn't really need menus, and it plays perfectly fine in my Blu-ray player.
But I'm sure there must be something, one or two parameters that would make it compatible. For example, after encoding the file again the last time, now I can import it into Encore, and it doesn't stay frozen forever, but it doesn't show me the video and as soon as I try to move the timeline cursor it freezes and doesn't let me do anything for several minutes. So still it's not usable. But it's a change from the first encode where the progress dialog would be there for several hours and do nothing at all.

  • File encoding with UTF-8

    Hello all,
My scenario is IDoc -> XI -> File (txt).
Everything was working fine until i have to handle eastern european language with weird symbol
So in my file adapter receiver, i'm using the file encoding code UTF-8 and when i look my field in output, everything is fine.
BUT, when i look in binary, the length of these field is not longer fixed because a special character takes 2 bytes instead of one.
I would like to know if it's possible to handle those characters with a file encoding code UTF-8 in a fixed length field of 40 characters for example don't want a variable length for my fields...
    Thanks by advance,
    JP

I agree with you. In XI, i don't have this problem, i have it in my ouput file when i edit my text file in binary mode !
My field should be on 40 characters but the special symbol which take 2 bytes instead of 1 make the length of my output fields variable !!!
My question was to know if there is a way to have a fixed length in my output file..
Sorry if i wasn't clear in my first post.

  • How do I import files encoded with FFV1 into Premier CS5?

Sorry if I get things a little mixed up here, but I'm still a relative editing newbie and some terms are confusing to me, but here goes!
I've been given a bunch of short video clips that I need to import into Premier CS5. Trouble is, they have been (I am told) encoded with the FFV1 codec, and when I import them into Premier all I can see is the audio track and no video. Other than asking my friend to re-encode the files (over 200) in a different way, is there some workaround to get these files working in Premier?

  • How big a drive for 3 hours of video encoded with animation codec?

Sorry if this seems a strange question - but I've run out of fingers and toes to count on.
I'm planning a video project that will have approx three hours of selected video to work with. Will be cut down to approx 90 minutes.
The video will be include a lot of chroma keying and also be graphic heavy. Many alpha channels.
I have determined the best work method is to upload the video using the Apple Animation codec. I am reliably informed that said Animation codec is a hungry bugger and eats up drive space.
Can anyone with more toes and fingers than me give me a ballpark for how big an external drive I should budget for this?
So to recap that's a a minimum of three hours of video encoded using the Apple Animation codec plus all the graphics, audio and rendering.
    Many thanks.
    A.S

The Animation codec isn't an editing codec. You'll have a DICKENS of a time trying to work with that.  Besides needing VERY fast drives...I'm talking a 4-5 drive RAID with 300+MB/s throughput (Firewire won't cut it...eSATA would be pushing it..thunderbolt? Pushing it)...it'd still stutter on playback. No one edits with that codec. I mean no one. It's a good way to transport media LOSSLESSLY, but when editing...best to use an Editing Codec.  As Michael said, ProRes 4444 would be good...even ProRes HQ is good enough quality. I deliver shows to air in that codec.

  • How to play WMA files encoded with DRM on M

    Hi -
I downloaded and installed the drivers, firmware and apps recommended by Creative Labs to support transferring wma files with drm to the muvo through the creative media source. However when I attempt to transfer I encounter an "Error transferring files" every time. I can play the files on my laptop (windows 2000 sp4) using the cms player, but I still cannot transfer them to the muvo. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
    stpal

thanks for the quick reply. i should clarify that the files are downloaded (walmart.com) in .wma with drm. strange but i reinstalled the firmware (v.40) and out of the ten files I downloaded i was able to transfer 6 of them using cms or wmp 9.0. the remaining 4 still errored out with the same error. by trial and error i was able to figure out that by playing them locally (which acquires the license) I could then successfully transfer them. thanks for the help.

  • IPhone email WAV file attachment

Hello. My company uses a system for voicemail, that will send an email to me with an attached WAV file with the voicemail in it.
When I check the email and then select the WAV file attachment to play, it pops up with an error that says "this movie could not be played".
I have researched this and noticed that the WAV file that is sent as an attachment is ecoded with "ACM Waveform". The only WAV file encoding that I found works on the iPhone is "PCM Windows".
Is there any way to be able to listen to the ACM WAV file? Anyone know of a fix?
WAV files encoded with ACM, ADPCM and PCM all play fine in iTunes. WAV files encoded with DVI do not however. Yet only the PCM encoded file will play on the iPhone.
    Any suggestions?

Sure you can. I can send myself emails with WAV files and they open fine using the media player on the iPhone, provided they are encoded with Windows PCM. Anything else does not work.
That is my issue. The WAV files that my system sends me are encoded with ACM. I need them to be PCM.

  • Encode 4K dpx files with H264 codec or AVCHD to MP4 wrapper with Compressor?

I have 4K dpx files that I want to encode with H264 codec or AVCHD to MP4 wrapper.  Can either Compressor 4 or 5 support this?  If so, what specific encoder settings are needed?  Currently, I receive Quicktime error -108

    Don't use mp4, use Qucktime h.264. I'm sure mp4 doesn't support 4k.

  • .wav file attachments in email no longer play

Up until yesterday, on my iPad mini, if I got a voice message .wav file as an attachment in my email, I could open it right from the message and listen to it. Now when I try to do so, the screen to play the message shows up for a second, then jumps back to the email message.  I tried to listen to the message from my Xfinity account in Safari and got a black screen with a speaker symbol crossed out.
Could it be that my phone provider Comcast changed the encoding so that the .wav files are no longer compatible with mu iPad? (They still work on my iMac.) I am not aware of my making changes to the device or software that could cause this.
Thanks for any assistance on this.

    Hey,
Welcome to the BlackBerry® Support Community Forums.
To better assist you, what is the audio codec of the of the .wav file? And can you please provide the software version of the BlackBerry Q10 smartphone?
On a side note, I did some testing here with .wav voice mail email attachments and was able to play the file, so this may be an issue with the type of .wav file.
    Thanks.

  • How to create a wav file from 24bit 96Khz sampling rate data

    Hi
I am trying to make an VI which will play sound while acquiring data from PXI 4472 DAQ card.
My sampling rate is 96Khz and PXI 4472 card is a 24bit card.
Wave files are in 8 or 16 bit and the sampling rate is 8000, 11025, 22050 and 44100. How will I be able to play the data which I am acquiring.
How would i normalize the data into the required format needed for most of the sound cards to play.
Or are there any codec available in Windows XP which i call to play a 96KHz 24 bit sample
Does anybody ever encountered this type of problem.
    Thanks in advance
    Nitin

Whilst the 'standard' RIFF format specification usually accomodates 16 bit data, there is of course no reason that you can not create your own extension. It just won't be playable by Media player using the 'standard' installed drivers or codec. This may not be a problem....
WAV files can and do support other formats, you just need to know how to handle them......
There is howerver a 4GB limit (related to the pointer size in the WAV specification) which with higher bit depths on the sampling does start to become a bit of a problem.
To give you a few samples of other types of wav files check out the following site here
    http://www-mmsp.ece.mcgill.ca/Documents/AudioFormats/WAVE/Samples.html
The following definitions for WAV audio formats may also be of interest here

    Good luck with 24 bits.

  • Firefox webrtc rtp payload type

I'm seeing an issue when placing a webrtc call with firefox when the answer SDP has different payload types than the offer. for example, i get an offer from firefox that has the opus codec with payload type 109. if the answer SDP comes in with the opus codec and payload type 110, audio will not be heard. looking in the WebRTC.log file you will see a whole bunch of "IncomingRTPPacket received invalid payloadtype".
i believe the correct behavior in this case is for firefox to transmit opus with RTP payload type 110 (ie the remote payload type) and expect to receive opus with payload type 109. it looks like firefox will send with 110 and expect to receive with 110.
the same scenario with chrome does not have a problem. if i change the SDP answer to match the payload type of the offer, audio can be heard in firefox.
the same issue can be seen with VP8 video or other codecs with dynamic payload types.
for reference, the relevant excerpt from rfc3264:
"In the case of RTP, if a particular codec was referenced with a
specific payload type number in the offer, that same payload type
number SHOULD be used for that codec in the answer. "
in this case the answer SDP is violating the SHOULD in the rfc, but this is sometimes unavoidable when interworking SDP between devices (ie some sort of back-to-back signaling agent).

That RFC is a proposed standard at the moment [http://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/rfc3264/]
However, this would be a great bug for tech evangelism, I would encourage you to file a bug with some technical examples. Way to keep the web open!
