Pb with abscents characters from keyboard

I installed Solaris 10 on Sun Xfire 4100 dual AMD opteron and all has been done correctely. I used JavaRconsole to install OS.
But for instense when I want to type the ":" character in a term it's abscent from his place and I have the "<" or ">" character instead. There various others characters like this. (it the same thing from any editor and even from console)
I tried to use the graphical utility to modify that comportment but it never changed. What could I do to solve this ?
Thank you by advance for your responses.

Sounds as if the system is configured to use an US-English keyboard
layout, and you need the Frensh (?) layout.
What is configured in the "kbd-type" eeprom variable?
Check with the command "eeprom kbd-type".
You probably want to change it to "eeprom kbd-type=French",
followed by a reboot.

  • [SOLVED] Unicode characters from keyboard in terminal

    I'm not sure if this is the right section, but I couldn't find any more suitable, so posting here. I have quite a strange problem.
    As I lately write much about bridge, I use ♣ ♦ ♥ ♠ symbols a lot. So I thought It would be nice to map some Alt+Ctrl combinations on my keyboard to enter them quickly. Using this page I did something like this in the keymap I load to my X-server on startup:
    key <AC02> {
    type= "CTRL+ALT",
    symbols[Group1]= [ s, S, sacute, Sacute, U2660 ]
    ... and similarly for <c>, <d> and <h> keys.
    It works like a charm in all my applications except for terminal (Termite), where I happen to write the most (Vim). Instead of the proper character, Termite shows two unreadable characters (). The Ctrl+Shit+u combination on the other hand works in Termite too.
    I use sole XMonad window manager and no GNOMEs/KDEs or such things. Does anyone have an idea why is that so or how to fix it?
    Last edited by Sventimir (2014-09-04 09:07:04)

    Remapping the Alt key in in Vim on Termite may or may not work.  See
    :h map-alt-keys
    If you always have a space between the suit glyph and the next character, or follow the suit symbol by a newline character, I would suggest using an abbreviation.  In your .vimrc, add:
    iab ,c ♣
    iab ,d ♦
    iab ,h ♥
    iab ,s ♠
    In Insert mode, typing a comma then an 's' and then a space or pressing 'Enter' prints the spade glyph.  Or choose another character instead of the comma,  perhaps the backslash, ' \ '.

  • How to search Youtube with cyrillic characters?

    Before the last update of Apple TV, we were able to use our iPod with the Remote application and search for Russian programs with Cyrillic characters from the Cyrillic keyboard on the iPod. Now when we try, every time we enter a Cyrillic character we get some message saying that Youtube was not communicating. Anyone have any ideas how we can search Youtube in Cyrillic characters again?

    Hi,
    How to use to search Notification number or something with wildcard search,
    see following e.g.,
    DATA: L_TRANS TYPE RANGE OF ZNOTIF-TRANS.
    DATA: BEGIN OF WA_TRANS,
           SIGN(1),
           OPTION(2),
           LOW(45),
           HIGH(45),
          END OF WA_TRANS.
            WA_TRANS-SIGN = 'I'.
            WA_TRANS-OPTION = 'CP'.
            WA_TRANS-LOW = INIT-TranNumber.
            APPEND WA_TRANS TO L_TRANS.
            SELECT * FROM NOTIF
                     INTO TABLE ZNOTIF
                     WHERE TRANS IN L_TRANS.
            IF SY-SUBRC <> 0.
              EXIT.
            ENDIF.
    Basically if i give '111' or '111%' or '111*' for INIT-TranNumber which is the first 3 digit for most of the notification. It doesn't give any entry.
    How to handle wild card search '*' if WA_TRANS-LOW is initial?

  • Loading a CSV file with Umlaut characters (àáä)

    Hai,
    We are uploading a CSV file though a Custom JSP page built based on Oracle JTF framework.
    The JSP page is loading the data into FND_LOBS table using JTF object, oracle.apps.jtf.amv.ServletUploader.
    The CSV file in the FND_LOBS table stored properly with the umlaut characters.
    Now the JSP page invokes a Java object to read and parse the data. We are selecting the data first into BLOB object and then using the Input Stream Reader to get the data.
    Here is the sample code:
    oraclepreparedstatement = (OraclePreparedStatement)oracleconnection.prepareStatement(" SELECT FILE_DATA FROM FND_LOBS WHERE FILE_ID = :1 ");
    oraclepreparedstatement.defineColumnType(1, 2004);
    oraclepreparedstatement.setLong(1, <file id>);
    oracleresultset = (OracleResultSet)oraclepreparedstatement.executeQuery();
    blob = (BLOB)oracleresultset.getObject(1);
    InputStreamReader inputstreamreader = new InputStreamReader(blob.getBinaryStream());
    lineReader = new LineNumberReader(inputstreamreader )
    lCSVLine = lineReader.readLine();
    I tried printing the character set used by the InputStreamReader and it returned as ASCII
    Now I tried setting the different character sets to read Umlaut characters(german chars) but nothing has worked.
    InputStreamReader inputstreamreader = new InputStreamReader(blob.getBinaryStream(),"UTF-8");
    Can someone please let me know where and how to set the Character Set to accept the Umlaut characters like àáä?
    Thanks,
    Anji

    Thank you for the quick response.
    Requirement:
    I need to retrive the BLOB object with umlaut characters from database, parse the data with comma delimeter into strings and store in database.
    I am viewing the umlaut data from the database table using TOAD utility tool.
    I tried the same code example provided above but it is not working as expected. The umlaut characters are translated to 'ýýý.
    CODE EXAMPLE:
    Input:
    test_umlaut (sno NUMBER, col1 VARCHAR2(100), col3 BLOB);
    insert into test_umlaut(sno,col3) values(200, utl_raw.cast_to_raw('äöüÄÖÜ' ))
    Note: Verified that the database is showing the umlaut characters on selecting the col3 and storing in a flat file
    --- code
    OraclePreparedStatement oraclepreparedstatement10 = null;
    OracleResultSet rs = null;
    oraclepreparedstatement10 = (OraclePreparedStatement)oracleconnection.prepareStatement(" SELECT col3 FROM test_umlaut WHERE sno = 200 ");
    oraclepreparedstatement10.defineColumnType(1, 2004);
    rs = (OracleResultSet)oraclepreparedstatement10.executeQuery();
    while(rs.next()) {
    BLOB b = (BLOB)rs.getObject(1);
    InputStream is = b.getBinaryStream();
    InputStreamReader r = new InputStreamReader(is,"utf8");
    BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(r);
    String line;
    while( (line = br.readLine()) != null) {
         System.out.println(line);
         OraclePreparedStatement oraclepreparedstatement12 = null;
         OracleResultSet oracleresultset12 = null;
         oraclepreparedstatement12 = (OraclePreparedStatement)oracleconnection.prepareStatement(" INSERT INTO test_umlaut(sno,col1) VALUES (300,?) ");
         oraclepreparedstatement12.setString(1,line);
         oraclepreparedstatement12.executeUpdate();
    br.close();
    r.close();
    is.close();
    Output: Verified the output from the database table which is inserted in the loop above.
    select col1 from test_umlaut where sno=300

    I cant type any special character made with "control + [key]" combination such as ["] or [/]; neither into address/search bar nor the inputs on webpages.

    Hi,
    Why are the characters mixed up in the session?
    This issue can occur if the keyboard language has been switched on the remote PC while running a remote desktop session. In the case you would like to switch to a different keyboard
    language follow these instructions.
    Important:
    The remote PC selects the system language of the device running the remote desktop client and not the keyboard language. When switching the keyboard language on your device,
    you need to manually switch the keyboard language on the remote PC.
    1. Open settings on your device.
    2. Tap General and then tap International.
    3. Tap Language and select the language running on the remote PC.
    4. Open the RD Client and connect to the remote PC and check if the Windows keyboard language matches the language that you selected.

  • I have a MacBook purchased in 2009 with Snow Leopard. I tried to access "special characters" from the Finder menu and an intermittent blank pop ups and will not stop. It also happens when I run Word or Pages.

    The blank pop up began as I tried to access "special characters" from the finder menu. I restarted, turned off and restarted and it did not work. It interferes with any application because I cannot work fast. Every new step takes a few seconds longer such as saving, finding text, check spelling and many more. I am desperate to solve this. Thanks in advance for any help given.

    Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
    This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

    I use classical Hebrew for my work, and Pages will only display English characters even with a Hebrew font selected. If I cut and paste Hebrew characters from another document, as long as the font is supported, it will appear in Pages.  If I type it won't continue in Hebrew.  I have tried downloading several fonts, including those from professional societies, but the only way to get Hebrew in my document is to cut and paste.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  I use an older MacBook running OS 10.9.1.  I used to do my Hebrew work in Word, but it is no longer supported by Mac OS.

    Just clarifying:
    Pages '09 has bad support for Hebrew, Arabic etc but will accept pasted text.
    Pages 5 has much better support but with bugs.
    If you have columns they are in the wrong order ie Text starts in the left column and ends in the right column.
    If you type English into Hebrew text it tends to fall in the wrong position eg instead of to the left of Hebrew punctuation it goes to the right.
    As Tom recommends the only real solution on the Mac is Mellel.

    btw Tell Apple, they are amazingly slow to fix this running sore which has been broken since RtoL was supposedly introduced in OSX 10.2.3 over a decade ago.

  • Issue with Czech characters in PDFs generated from RSTXPDFT4

    Hi,
    We have a requirement to generate PDF documents from the spool of the Billing document outputs in our project.
    For this we are using the standard program RSTXPDFT4, which converts the SAP script OTF to PDF format.
    But the Czech characters in the billing document output are not getting displayed in the PDF generated out of it.
    We are already using a device type I2HP4 when creating the print request , which supports Latin-2 Character set ( ISO 8859-2 ), to which the special characters
    of East European languages belong.
    Even then , the czech characters are not getting displayed in the PDF generated.
    We have raised  a message to SAP for this, and SAP informed us that currently the only solution to this is to use Latin 2 soft fonts,
    and to upload these soft fonts into R/3 System using report RSTXPDF2 as they contain the Eastern European special characters plus all the other characters in ISO 8859-2.
    But, since character font definitions (font files) are protected by copyrights, SAP informed us that they cannot provide these font files and we have to acquire
    these latin-2 font files by searching in search engines in the internet.
    If anyone has the information where we can get these "Adobe type 1 Latin-2" font files with '.PFB' extension,  for the proper display of Czech characters, please let me know.

    Hi,
    Did you or anyone manage to find a reasonable solution for this issue?
    I'm currently facing something similar but with Polish characters instead.
    I tried using RSTXPDF2 to upload .PFB and .TTF files but to no avail.

    hi i can't seem to copy and paste pdf files from preview to a microsoft word document. it always comes up with nonsense characters in the word document. how do i fix this? thanks in advance

    Hi,
    The quickest way to do this (tested with OS 10.8.2, MS Word 2011) is in one line:
    tell application "Microsoft Word" to close every document whose name begins with "book"
    The reason why your script doesn't work is that you aren't specifying to Word which document you want it to close.
    So, changing one line ought to do it:
    close document incrementvalue -- instead of "close document"
    But... when you close a document, you change the document count. Document 2 becomes document 1, document 3 becomes document 2 etc. So eventually you'd get a message saying "The object you are trying to access doesn't exist".
    Because of this, if you want to do it in a repeat loop, you have to work backwards:
    tell application "Microsoft Word"
      set doc_count to count documents
      repeat with x from doc_count to 1 by -1
      if name of document x begins with "book" then close document x
      end repeat
    end tell
    Hope this helps.

    #define F(...) F1(acBuff, sizeof(acBuff), __VA_ARGS__)

        // Causes error
        F("%s\n", MCheck(1));
        printf("%s", acBuff);
        return 0;
    }This appears to be because the pre-processed code (found using CC -E ex.cpp) has removed the '?' characters from the parsed macro 'F' expansion as shown:
    (Code inserted from headers)
    #13 "ex.cpp"
    void func ( char * buff , size_t len , const char * fmt , ... ) {
    va_list args ;
    ( void ) ( args = ( __va_list ) & __builtin_va_alist ) ;

    func ( acBuff , sizeof ( acBuff ) , "%s\n" , ( 1 == 1 "One" : "???" ) ) ;
    printf ( "%s" , acBuff ) ;
    return 0 ;
    }Is this an error with the compiler, or is there some flag we need to set to ensure the macros are expanded to the correct level?

    We are using Solaris 8, so I'm guessing we should use Sun Studio 11? Correct, the latest release that supports Solaris 8 is Sun Studio 11. Be sure to patch both Solaris and Sun Studio once you install it.
    BTW, I was able to reproduce the problem using Studio 9 compiler (CC 5.6). Apparently, it got fixed in later versions of compiler - patched version of CC 5.6 does not have it.

    I have an XML whose elements contain special characters (for example: ñ, Ñ, á, Á, etc..), When I load the XML and make a Trace () the loaded element, I see that it is loaded correctly, but then in the text field is not special characters. For example in the XML I have the text Baños, but in the text field shown Baos.

    So then I was testing with embedded characters to see what was the need to display special characters (like "ñ", "í", etc..) and discovered that it has to be built or yes is Latin I (194/388 glyphs).

Is there a way to disable the accented characters from popping up when typing on the keyboard? This is very distracting for some of our clients. Thanks in advance for any advice.
