PC just dies...

I recently built my PC but I got this problem that is irritating the hell outta me.
The PC just suddenly dies. I mean the power just goes. Nothing.
The monitor and etc stays on but the PC is just dead. The switch doesnt respond or nothing.
Only after I switch it on and off at the mains am I able to switch the thing back on.
I have got no clue why its doing that.
Any advice or suggestions will be apreciated.
I think it may be an overheating thing but am not sure.
I set it in the BIOS for the alarm to go off at 53C and that does sound before the PC shuts down.
Is 53C a big deal?
Once I switched it on and was in the BIOS under 'PC Health' just looking at the temperature going up...
It went from 30C to 51ish in17 minutes before switching off.

Happy New Year MrE! I am an Intel guy, but I have experienced one incredibly stupid, frustrating, "ready to light the PC on fire", kinda power problem which probably is cross-platform. If my Floppy-Drive power plug is even a little loose, it acts like a kill switch for the entire system. When I upgraded my PSU, I could not get the new one to power-up the pc for 3 hours. After checking all the connections for the 400th time, I noticed that the floppy connector could feel like it was properly seated, when it was not. I applied a little extra muscle, and Boom! Well, not Boom, but you know what I mean, it started up. I know there is only a small chance that this is your problem, but I know I would have been grateful as hell to hear about it myself not so long ago! Take care!

My iMac G5 just dies?

It turnes on.. but within 10-15 mins it just dies.. and Im not able to turn it for at least a couple of hours.. Is it not enough RAM? I can't imagen that it over heats.. I do live in a humid climate.. could this have affected it?

Snow Leopard is only for Intel Macs. The highest OS you can go to on an G5 iMac (PPC) is Leopard.

Sound just dies and requires a restart

I sometimes have to frequently switch between using my headphones and the MBP's internal speakers. Often enough to be very frustrating, the sound just dies and refuses to come back on when I make a switch like this. Settings tell me everything is all right but the only thing that fixes this problem is a restart.
I am getting sick of restarting my MBP ...

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".

Firefox was upgraded to 3.6.15. Now whenever I start it it coms up then crashes almost immediately. No error message it just dies. Sometime it may stay up a few minutes before it dies. But it always crashes.

Ipod nano 3rd gen, when connected to computer works fine, but when disconnected it just dies.

today, i first thought that i had left my ipod on all night and my battery had just gone in the ipod, so plugged it in to my laptop to charge, but after a few hours, i ejected the ipod, no problems, but as soon as i unpluged it, it died. tryed plugging it in again but the same thing, plugged in it works fine but once its disconected it dies! im really worried about the music on it that i dont have in my itunes.
is there anyway to fix this, and also how do i back up my ipod, NOT my itunes?!

whoa, ok i tryed just there to restore it (menu, middle button) while it was plugged in, but now the little apple logo keeps comming up for about 5 seconds, turns off, and repeats... WHATS GOING ON?!?! have i wiped my ipod?!?!?!

T520 suddenly turns off just dies

Hi friends: Reinstalled everything new on t520. Now about every half hour it just turns off. Totally dies. I am not using a battery (it died a long time ago) just hooked to plug. Doesn't seem to be overheating because the cpu is listed as 56 celcius. My hunch is that it has to do withthe video adapter software driver, but what can I do about it? PLEASE RESCUE!!! Susan

Yeah it's a bit of a shot in the dark.
Right after it dies, boot up again and go to Event Viewer. Look under the Last Hour column for something non-zero.
(Clear your event logs beforehand to make this easier.)

Internet just dies

I moved house and brought my bt internet and tv with me, since i have had a great service and dealings with BT for over 2 years.
When i moved house the broadband was on and working great then after being in my new house for ten days the internet would run slow or just keep timing out. I reported the problem with BT and they said that there was a fault on the line and it would be sorted in 48 hours. I then got a call back saying the problem fixed, I still had the same problems and went through the test they told me like restarting the home hub, plugging into the test socket. I was also told to run a speed test with speedtester.bt.com. The problem is to this day i couldnt get the speed test to work.
After a number of more calls to BT they are going to send a engineer out.
I just want to know if anyone has had problem with there broadband speed going really slow and timing out.
I was told my connection was going to be 5.5MB but i am getting between 2mb - 3.5mb if i am lucky. My BT vision seems to work ok but runs really slow in the menus and loading information and pictures.

in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems) BT Speedtester and post the results .
are you connected directly to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

Flash Video Encoder just dies with no error message

I just downloaded the Flash CS3 trial version and I'm trying
to encode a video with the video encoder and it simply won't work.
I can launch the video encoder just fine and select a video for
encoding, but the minute I click 'settings' or 'start queue', the
application just disappears. The process is halted and there is no
error message or anything. Nothing.
The application is prompting me for a validation code but I
don't have one yet. I have ordered the software through a friend
who works at adobe and I'm waiting for delivery of the DVD set. Is
this feature disabled in the trial version or something? I have
seen *absolutely nothing* that would suggest it is.
I'm really worried I'm going to received CS3 and the video
encoder won't work.

Apparently my version of Quicktime was too old. Am I mistaken
or is the installer supposed to verify things like that?

Visibility just dies from time to time

As the title says, Visibility just exits sometimes and ofcourse I can't figure out what the heck is wrong with it. I will try starting it from a terminal to see if there is any output but in the mean time - has anyone had a similar issue ?
EDIT: It sounds silly but I think this could be related to my recent switch to ms-pecan plugin for pidgin (since it hasn't happened before). I think it mainly happens when I switch to an open conversation with someone using that (WLM) protocol... Or this is just complete bullocks, I just have no clue....

Mail just dies every time it starts up

Hi there,
for a couple of days mail dies every time I start it up. It doesn't show any new or old email and I can't click on anything.
It used to work perfectly and I don't see anything I changed. I don't have any plug-ins or anything.

Yes, sorry I mean it crashes, Mulder.
The weired thing is that there are no crash reports for "Mail" (there are reports for Safari, iDVD, iTunes etc...).
Everytime I start up Mail the Mail window opens as it used to but there are no mails in the income folder. If you try to click on anything (like Sent Items or Spam) the spinning wait cursor appears and nothing happens. If you try now to click on the Exit button nothing happens either.
The only thing I can think of I did before this problem appeared was an Apple Update. But there are no new programs or plug-ins I installed lately.
I haven't done anything yet to resolve the problem because I don't have a clue what I could do...
I hope this was specific enough. I know it's not much of information but it's all I got.

LiveCycle/JBoss just dies after several minutes. Have to rerun Configuration Manager

I installed LiveCycle ES Turnkey with JBoss on a fresh install of WinXP Pro and it seemed to work flawlessly. I followed the turnkey install guide and it went without any problems. After the install I opened the LC Administrator Console and logged in with no problems. I changed the passwords and poked around a bit. It sat idle for a few moments and the next time I tried to do anything I get the standard Failed to Connect message as if I were trying to browse the web while not online.
I've tried several things to bring it back to life -- restarting the service (it's 'JBoss for Adobe LiveCycle ES' right? it always fails to stop this service when I try to restart it.), restarting the whole machine, starting the server from run.bat in jboss\bin... nothing works. I have to run the Adobe LiveCycle Configuration Manager again to be able to connect to http://localhost:8080/. I've done this three times now and every time it's the same thing. It works for several minutes and then dies for seemingly no reason.
I really appreciate any help I can get!

If you have checked for Possible hardware or software conflicts, you may have a hardware problem.
You sound like an experienced user that has done considerable troubleshooting, but you can consider How to test your iSight to ensure it is functional in case something there might help you.
If none of those suggestions or Apple's How to Troubleshoot iSight helps you, your iSight will likely need repair by an Apple Service Technician. There are no user serviceable parts in iSight.
Even if the iSight you bought was advertised as an NOS (new, old-stock) iSight, it may not be covered by Apple Warranty. If the seller is not providing you service guarantees or warranty, you may be interested in Apple's iSight Service: Frequently Asked Questions.

E70 just dies on me!!

Does anyone know why my new E70 should periodically just die on me (happens twice a week on average)!!!
I can be mid call, when the line goes, the main screen just dissappears and the white NOKIA start up page comes up....there is a delay for a few seconds and then GRADUALLY the main screen reappears and so does normal service ie I don't have to re-start the phone
The battery is in good shape/charged and I am in a good signal area.
Any clues as to what the problem is!!

My guess - and that's all it is - is that you're running out of memory. Either you happen to have a lot of apps open at these times or possibly there's some app - possibly a 3rd party app - that has a memory leak, ie: when it shuts down it doesn't release all the memory it's using.
The first issue is easy enough to fix: if you regularly press and hold the menu button you'll see a list of all the apps that are running and you can switch to and close (via the soft buttons) the apps you don't need.
Re the 2nd one, that's going to be a lot tougher to trace. You basically need to identify which app is causing the problem. If you have 3rd party apps, then it's slightly easier as you can start by uninstalling the last app you installed and seeing if the problem goes away. Repeat with other apps until you find the one causing the problem.
It might be an idea to back the phone up and do a factory reset: that can sometimes help too.

Install 8i personal just dies without installing

This happens on my Dell Inspiron 8200 running Windows XP Professional after Service Pack 1. I downloaded the file and unzipped it; the unzip appears to be fine, but running Setup just gives me the mouse pointer for about five seconds and then back to the regular pointer, having obviously died silently. I copied the files to a CD and tried loading from a CD using autorun; I get the autorun screen, choose install, get the hourglass and a whirring CD for about five seconds; then the CD stops spinning and the regular pointer comes back. I took the CD over to a different laptop that also has XP; stuck it in; autorun came up; chose install; promptly got the install wizard.
I very much need this thing installed on this particular laptop. I very much do NOT need to reinstall XP and reload all my other software from scratch, which was my IT guy's next suggestion.
Any ideas?

I had a similar problem installing 8i on my new Dell Latitude running Win2K. It turns out there is a problem with Pentium-4 machines and the Oracle install. Fortunately, the fix is pretty simple. On startup, my MacBook Pro just dies.

It will turn on and go to the screen with the apple and spinning wheel thing and then the bar will start loading underneath and when it is almost done loading, it shuts down every time. Anyone know what's wrong with it?
