Pcd content transport

Hi,
I am transporting the content from dev to qa. I was looking into pcdstartup.properties.. found a couple which i didnt understand.
1. Pcd.TransportApplication.Export.ExcludeSystemObjects
in doc, it is said that it  decides whether or not the objects in the SAP namespace initially delivered by SAP are excluded from the export.
but the property
Pcd.TransportApplication.ProtectedNamespaces already provides that, i.e. this already avoids the exporting of portal content in com.sap namespace.
could someone please distingush between these two,
2. Pcd.TransportApplication.Export.ExcludeObjectTypes
AfterRuleProcessing
and Pcd.TransportApplication.Export.
ExcludeObjectTypes
the difference would be transporitng resource bundles, but why would someone just transport resource bundles in a par file, without transporting the actual par file.
could some please clarify this to me
thank you

hi
You can only export resource bundles if you have write permission for these objects. You can find resource bundles in the Portal Catalog by calling them with System Administration ® Permissions. All administrators other than the superadministrator can access the folder for the resource bundles as „read-only“ in the standard delivery.

  • PCD Content Transport Issues

    Hi All,
We have an issue while transporting PCD content.
The PCD content is the delta link copy of the Business Package (from Content Provided by SAP folder). We have copied the standard content to custom folder as delta link and did few modifications on the roles.
NOTE: The name space of the PCD content is not changed. It remains "com.sap.pct"
We were able to transport this successfully to the quality portals earlier via CTS transport process.
Now, we had a change to make in the development and after making the change when we are trying to transport the content via CTS, it is not getting imported to the Q portals.
I have searched on the transport set up and limitations and came to know that any PCD object with sap namespace would not be exported to the package. But, I was able to export the content to the transport request earlier as well as now. Earlier, when we did this, it got successfully imported to the Q portals. But, now it is throwing error.
We are using SAP NW Portal 7.3.
****Also, can any one please help me understand if this transport limitation of not able to transport PCD objects with sap namespace applies to 'File System' mode of transport as well? I am asking this because we are able to transport successfully via File System transport.
Thanks in advance for all your replies and support regarding this.
    Regards,
    Murthy.

  • Content transport routes

I have a Scenario and would like to know if this is possible using standard SAP transportation tools.
    System1
    A1/
    A2----
    System 2
    A3
       \________   System 3
A1/A2 and A3 are JAVA packages developed on System0.While releasing the package , we want that A1 should go to System1 , A2 should go to System 2 and A3 should goto system 4...
Please help me in understanding if this is possible and if you can provide high level steps would be Great.
    Regards!

    Hi Gaurav,
If you want to transport PCD content to another system go to System Administration/Transport/Transport Package/Export. In PCD tree in any place create transport package and add to it objects which you need (folders, roles, worksets, iviews and so on) and save transport package file localy on your computer or server. After that go to the system where you want to locate your content. Go to System Administration/Transport/Transport Package/Import If you save tranport file localy on your computer chose client and upload tranport file. That is all, transportation is complete.

  • Email Notification need anyone changes the PCD content..

    Hello,
Can someone give me a solution for this issue.
An email should be sent to a person if someone has changed the PCD content. Can be an iveiw property, role property, workset property etc,.
Or if any thing is created or modified in PCD i should get an email notification that so and so content has been modified by so and so person.
    Regards,
    Krishna

    Hello Krishna,
As far as regarding to your question there is no built in functionality with portal. Email notification for subscription and notification service can be configured in the portal as:
Sys admin - System Configuration - Knowledge Management-Content Management - Utilities-channels - email channels  by this you can configure the communication channels available in the portal. However this is used to send information to the users.
Also the email notifications are used in the User Management where the user profile changes can be tracked by the Administrator, similarly for tasks and notification's we can configure the UWL for the email communication.

I hope this information would give you an idea as of how email channel could be used in portal where in as specific to your question i think we need to build an application and try integrate it with portal to test it.

  • Problems with Pcd Content after restore EP Portal with online Backup

    Dear Colleagues,
We have problems to show Pcd Content (Browse and Search) of the Content Administration tab of the EP Portal after restore with a online Backup during Disaster Recovery Test.
Restore has become on a mirror system of Production environment. Ours EP Portal is a cluster system with the following configuration:
    Production landscape:
    Node 1
Disk K:\ SAP SCS directory. (Clustered)
Disk E:\ SAP Central Instance directory (Local)
    Node 2
Disk E:\ SAP Dialogue Instance directory (Local)
    Disk M:\ SQL Datafiles. (Clustered)
    Disk L:\ SQL Logfiles. (Clustered)
    Disaster Recovery landscape:
    Only a Node
Disk K:\ SAP SCS directory. (Clustered)
Disk E:\ SAP Central Instance directory (Local)
    Disk M:\ SQL Datafiles
    Disk L:\ SQL Logfiles
    Portal Version
    J2EE Engine = 6.40 PatchLevel 105424.313
    Portal = 6.0.18.0.0
After restore, the data base as the SAP application starts
correctly but when logon in the Portal, the Pcd Content of Content Administration tab
and to other tabs with similar information is not shown.
After restore it can be necessary to reactivate some type of configuration, links, etc?, for this type of restore is better to make a backup offline instead of online one?
We are thankful for any information on the matter.
    Thanks,
    Regards.
    Rafa R.R.

The issue was solved with a offline backup.

  • PCD Content missing after cleanup

    Hi all,
I'm working at a customer where they cleaned up their PCD content a while ago. Basically they created a new main structure under ''portal_content' and restructured everything in here. They use a customized portal desktop that contains their own look and feel. This is assigned via the Portal Rule collection and everything is working fine.
However, there are a few users that receive an error message as soon as they login, when they refresh the page it is working fine. When you look in the log files you see the following messages very regularly:
    [EXCEPTION]
    com.sapportals.portal.prt.runtime.PortalRuntimeException: iView not found: pcd:portal_content/abcde/group/layout/abcde_portal_desktop/frameworkPages/abcde_default_frameworkpage/com.sap.portal.innerpage
this one is pointing to the old location, which indeed does not exist anymore. But does anyone know how to find out what is refering to the old location? I also thought about a caching problem, however, the portal was restarted already multiple times in meantime so I doubt that as well.
Although the end users that get the error only need to refresh once it is still an annoying problem, any help is appreciated.
    Regards,
    Nico...

    Dear Nico,
    Hope you are doing good.
    Just try the below:
    1)
Try the PCD inspector. this should help you administer and make the necessary changed in the PCD.
    and
    [https://cw.sdn.sap.com/cw/docs/DOC-113769]
    2)
Also try the below note. This will sync the DB data with the FS from scratch and should solve this as well:
1539483 - J2EE server/applications affected due to file system corruption
Thank you and have a nice day :).

  • Integrating PCD Content into Web Page Composer

    Hi,
I am following the link to [wpc link|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/06/4776399abf4b73945acb8fb4f41473/frameset.htm] to integrate PCD Content into WPC.
I have deactivated "Hide in Root Folder " check in PCD Repository properties in KM and restarted the portal server. Still I am not able to create an entry point the for the portal content (logged in as 'administrator'). Is there any other settings I am missing?

For creating site specific entry points, I could see the following procedure in the SAP Help ddocs
      1.      Navigate to the /Web Content/Sites//Entry Points folder.
           2.      Choose New ® Link.
           3.      Choose Browse... and select the folder containing shared Web content.
           4.      Enter a name for the entry point to appear in the Web content browser and choose Save.
    Is this not working out?
Or do you need anything else?
    Thanks
    Avik

  • Create PCD content

    Hi all,
I have to develop a Web Dynpro tool which should create PCD content. Do you know where I can get more information about the PCD structure and how to implement new content in this structure? Where can I find code samples or tutorials for that?
    Thanx and regards,

    Hi Thomas,
see http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/de/df/eb5c42da4de92ce10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm and around. Anyhow, using WD for portal internals does not sound very reasonable.

  • Transport inconsistency for PCD contents

    Hi All,
We are working on EP7.0 SP17. We are using Export tool for Portal Transport from Dev environment to QA.
One thing to be noticed that initially we transported a page with 2 iviews. The Page was successfully imported in QA env.
Later we edited the page by deleting an iview from it and transported the same page again. This time we found that the page is not getting overwritten in QA.It is still displaying 2 iviews. Besided setting Overwrite properyty as ALL durinh import, we are still facing this issue.
Tried several times but didnt work. Has anyone faced a situation like this while PCD Export Import, please share.
    Thanks,
    Archana

    Hi Avik,
The problem occurs in those pages that have been updated later by adding new ivews. I think some of the pages may include iviews whose id has changed.
The page IDs are still same.
    Thanks,
    Archana

  • How do you cope with releases of your custom Portal Content (PCD Content)?

    Dear SDN Community,
I'm very interested in how you cope with release management in the Portal (PCD).
Where I'm focusing on is the release of a "project" trough your landscape (Dev, Test, QA, Prod)
When starting a project you start with a new folder lets say "My Custom App" that contains all your content.
Once done you transport to Test, QA and eventually Prod. Now the Content is in use and roles are assigned.
Request for changes arive from the customer and eventually a new release need to be implemented.
Offcourse you could then change/update the content in the initial folder and transport that to Test, QA again but you will not be able to fix incidents while creating the new release because objects maybe touched.
I was thinking about a scenario where you create subfolders in your application folder, see example below:
    \ "My Custom App"
    |--- Release 1.0
    |--- Release 1.1
    |--- Release 2.0
    |--- Current
You only do this on your Dev system. Everytime a Release is OK you put it in the "Current" folder and transport this to Prod.
Using this you won't have to change the Role assignments in your different landscapes as they are always pointing to the "Current" folder. In addition this scenario enables you to provide Pilot rollouts to smaller groups parallel to the Major release.
My question to you is to shoot on it and give your oppinion/feedback... where possible provide links to SAP document or best practices that describe this subject...
    Thnx in advance,
    Benjamin Houttuin

    Hi Bejamin,
It is an interesting approach you describe and I see no reason it should not work.
The only thing which can create some problems is that the object ID of roles must be unique. For example com.mycom.roles.roleA cannot exist in two separate folders in the PCD. For all other PCD objects it is the PCD ID which must be unique and this includes the folder prefix.
In my experience, the most natural solution for this in large portal environments is to have both a version and a production line.
The production line will be your standard sandbox, development, test/QA, production and the version line will consist of an development and test/QA systems.
Long running projects for enhancements to existing functionality will be done in the version line, before being transported to the production line when ready for GoLive. This makes even more sense when you have version lines for backend systems your portal are using which are modified at the same time.
Whilst the project is running, the production line can be used for changes to the current version, but it is important to note that all these changes have to be migrated into the version line in order to make sure they are not overwritten.
Of course, a version line brings extra cost related to synchronization and similar, so it is not always it makes sense.
Amit's two documents of large portal installations might be somewhat relevant:

  • Is it possible to do portal content transports through System landscape?

    Hello,
In order to transport content from portal A to portal B I am currently using transport packages: export the content from portal A, download it to the local PC and import it to portal B. The process is working OK but I still have a question:
SAP are transferring all the control on their systems to the System landscape, for example Java developments. My question is if it is also possible to make these transports through the system landscape so no local PCs are involved in the process?

    Hi Roy,
You are right in the point that development projects can be transported, using the NWDI, centrally managed through the system landscape.
Nevertheless, the PCD transports (EPA) have to be touched manually anyhow. Theoretically, you can set up an SDA and put an EPA into it, see http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/a3/782240da03e569e10000000a155106/frameset.htm for details.
But this only really makes sense if you want to transport your own application together with the portal configuration (iViews representing your application...).
So in the end, PCD transports are designated to be transported as you are used to - manually via the export / import function of the portal.
    Hope it helps
    Detlev
