PDF Binder - OutOfMemoryError

Hello Everyone,
We are using Oracle BI (XML) Publisher in our application for PDF Book binding (PDFBookBinder). We are running into OutOfMemoryError while binding number of pdf files greater than 1500.
We have tried all the following combinations and no success.
xxx, yyy, zzz in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\SubSystems to
1024,8192,512 and
1024,8192,4096
And Virtual memory management is set to System Managed size and tried giving paging file size to 4096 on 4CPU and 4GB RAM box.
we are using j2re1.4.2_03 initialized the heap to the max (-Xmx1550m).
Any input to fix this issue will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

we are using Oracle XML Publisher 5.6.3
Following is the code snippet
PDFBookBinder pdfBookBinder = new PDFBookBinder(ctrlFile, pdfFileName);
Properties prop = new Properties();
prop.setProperty(Constants.SYSTE_TEMP_DIR, location);
prop.setProperty(Constants.SYSTEM_CACHE_PAGE_SIZE, Constants.NUM_50);
prop.setProperty(Constants.PDF_COMPRESSION, Constants.BOOLEAN_TRUE);
prop.setProperty(Constants.PDF_TITLE, "Custom PDR");
prop.setProperty(Constants.INCLUDE_TOC_PAGE_NUM, Constants.BOOLEAN_TRUE);
pdfBookBinder.setConfig(prop);
pdfBookBinder.setMergeBookmarks(false);
pdfBookBinder.process();

  • Can I use just IAC to create a PDF Binder?

    Hi All,
    I just started looking at the SDK, and normally I'd read it until I found my answer, but the boss wants something done by yesterday.
    I have a stand-alone Visual C++ app that creates a number of different files, such as ACAD drawings, PDF files, Word docs, etc.  My users all have Acrobat Pro 9.  I'd like to be able to use just IAC to get Acrobat to convert a list of files to PDF, then bind them all together in one PDF, all with just one click of a button by the User.  I've looked at the PDFBinder Sample, but this requires making a Plug-In, and then accessing the Plug-In via IAC.  I was hoping there would be a more direct way just using IAC.  The documents imply IAC can give you control "just like a user", and since a user can create a Binder PDF, I was hoping IAC could let me do it, without having to use Plug-Ins or JavaScript.
    So, can anyone point me to any classes in the IAC API that will do this?  Or am I stuck using the sample PDFBinder way?
    Thanks for your time!

    You can do this using the JSObject & JavaScript via IAC - but it's quite difficult from C++ as it was designed for more COM-orientred languages such as VB & .NET.
    It would actually be easier to do it from C++ as a plugin + your own IAC.

  • Cannot Convert and Combine Word 2010 docs to PDF Binder

    Have Acrobat Pro 9.4 Extended.  This worked fine with Word 2007, but I upgraded to Word 2010.  Now, when I add files and press on combine button it opens Word and asks me to save the first file to a pdf in Word, not in Acrobat.  Then, the conversion in Acrobat starts but hangs up until the program stops responding.  The binder that holds the combined and converted word docs to pdf never occurs.  Maybe the settings are wrong.  Or is there an issue with Office 2010?  I did a repair of Acrobat, but it has not helped.  Any help appreciated.

    Do you see the same issue with PDF Maker also ? I would recomend to update the Acrobat to the latest version : http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/update-patch-acrobat-reader-10.html

  • PDF binding to MySQL databse - how is it done?

    How can I bind data entered in to a Dynamic PDF form to reside in a MySQL database. I seem not able to build a connection.
    So here are the steps I follow:
    Binding / New Connection / Name: testdata ; Description: OLEDB database / Connection String: build: SQL Native Client / Data Source: location of the SQL database (.mwb) ; Log on to server: localhost
    But when I test the connection I get an initialization error and login time out.
    So my question is:  How do you connect the PDF fields to a MySQL database ? and what am I doing wrong ? Is it a feasable process to bind also check boxes and other fields to a database ? How would you bind data dynamically - say if I choose a certain field from a dropdown menu, certain other fields will populate via the database ?
    Thanks again for all help and insight.
    Shai
    PS I attached a sample form (not yet completely integrated to accept certain data) and a sample MySQL database (no data inside).

    DB and PDF forms are on one machine (local). Software is Access 2007 (.accdb), Acrobat Pro 9 (.pdf), File was saved as static.
    But I am not sure on the dialoge ( Acrobat vs. Windows). I used the MS Access 2007 connector. Connection checks out fine and so that the link,
    since I can see and use the fields that were built in Access. Hence I use those fields, where the biding is automated for me.
    When I save the form, there are no errors or warnings listed in LifeCycle designer - bottom window.
    Just when opening the file in Adobe, it mentions that the access is somehow prohibited. Also, how does one send the data
    to access once al the fields are filled out. I couldn't create or find a button for that?
    Again, thanks for your help and input.
    cheers

  • How to sort files in a PDF binder by date4

    I created a portfolio for my paycheck stubs
    I would like them sorted by date, in reverse, meaning the latest date appears first
    I cannot drag them into the order I want. Why can I not drag files?
    I tried renaming all the files with numbers so they appear in sequence (like an index)
    But I now can't remember how I got them to sort.

    Well, there is also JNI to do a directory listing to a file and then read that. That said, last modified is possibly more appropriate as it tells you last time a file was changed, not just raw age.

  • PDF Book Binder Processor and blob protocol

    Hello,
    I've 3 questions concerning PDF Book Binder Processor
    1. in the documentation: "Oracle® XML Publisher User’s Guide Release 11i Part No. B13817-06"
    I see a statement:
    "For detailed information, please see OracleMetaLink note 358886.1, "Oracle
    XML Publisher PDF Binding Examples.""
    Unfortunatly I can't find this document on the My Oracle Support.
    Is this document exists ?
    Was anybody was able to find it ?
    2. in the: "Oracle BI Publisher Java API Reference Release 10.1.3.4"
    I see a statement:
    "The format for the "blob://" protocol is:
    blob://[table_name].[blob_column_name]/[pk_datatype]:[pk_name]=[pk_value]/../../..
    Please see "toc-volumes-blob.xml" for an example of how to use this protocol."
    Unfortunatly I can't find this example.
    Does anybody knows where this sample can be found ?
    3. Does anybody use the "blob://" protocol and can share a experiences ?
    I would like to know the way how can I use this blob protocol in the XML control file, where can I declare a connection to the database ?
    Thank you in advance for help.

  • Exporting from InDesign to PDF, and the updated PDF is larger than a month ago and not printing easily on letter paper, it is PDF presets?

    Hello,
    I am exporting from InDesign to a PDF and the page is larger in the PDF then others I have exported. Is this because of the PDF presents? One of the project managers is not able to print it out on 8.5 x 11 paper, but the document presets for InDesign are the same as before. I wish I could upload the PDFs to show, but the newly exported PDF is larger than the version I created a month ago. I created a PDF binder and the newly updated PDF is almost a .5 inch wider with the same export presets. Any thoughts?

    I suspect the project manager simply has his/her copy of Reader/Acrobat set to print at actual size, rather than "Fit" (assuming the InDesign page size is truly 8.5 x 11).
    ..the newly updated PDF is almost a .5 inch wider with the same export presets.
    It would have nothing to do with export presets. How are you determining that half-inch difference?

  • Acrobat XI binder no longer works after update 11.0.09 whines about Flash

    Just since this recent update, four different computers cannot open a pdf  binder.
    It there a way to back up to previous version?
    As a precausion, I redownloaded flash player, and reinstalled.
    Same problem.
    Then I did a repair installation of Acrobat XI,
    Still same result.
    Please advise, since it appeared on all four computers at the same time, I fear your update has broken something.
    Learn more leads to nothing much.
    Please advise.

    I guess no else was having a problem.
    Rebuilt the binder and all is well.
    sorry for the alarm.
    Just frustrated I guess.

    IT look at and reinstall,

    I just answered this question in http://forums.adobe.com/message/4251547#4251547. Basically you should be able to create a PDF (assuming you are not using a 64-bit system and then I have no clue), but not in the automated way you are used to doing. The first step would be to change the printer port for the Adobe PDF printer (assuming the driver got installed) to file. Then when you print or use PDF Maker, it will ask you for the file name. It will create a PS file (may have a prn extension) that you have to open in Distiller to complete the rest of the conversion. A bit of extra work, but workable. You are looking at a Win7 issue that has caused major problems for many software vendors, not just Adobe. The newer versions of Windows seem to ignore a lot of compatibility needs. Don't forget that with VISTA they had to add the help system back in because their own MS Office needed it.

  • Creating a table of contents in a pdf

    Hi all,
    I'm using the API to create a large pdf i.e a bundle of quotes. Since I'm using the FOPRocessor(InputStrreams[],Templates[]) to create the PDF, I was wondering if there is a way to create a table of contents using the Outlineprocessor or do I need to create a pdf binder? If so, what does the xml input look like. Using my example <Quote> would be the only requirement that I need to list the contents.The Api documentation is a little light in this area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks,
    Matt

    Can Adobe automatically create a table of contents for a document and if
    so how is that generated?
    Adobe will not create table of contents for you.

  • Header Image File - Wrong Aspect Ratio in PDF

    I imported a picture into a form and it looks great in the FormsCentral editor.  But when I export the form, the aspect ratio is all wrong.  The Form Setup is 700 pixels, letter, Portrait.  I don't see many setting options to play with.  See attached screen shots.
    This is what it looks like in the editor - logo looks great.
    This is what it looks like as a PDF - logo aspect ratio is hosed!

    I had a similar problem (and solved it):
    I combined (right click on selected files > "Combine supported files in Acrobat...") .jpg images to a PDF binder using Adobe Acrobat X Pro.
    Image source: http://www.kultpower.de/archiv/heft_powerplay_1992-03
    The result was a PDF with horizontally bloated pages that did not match the aspect ratio of the raw images.
    Why is that so?
    Unlike Foxit PhantomPDF, Adobe Acrobat uses EXIF metadata (ExifImageWidth, ExifImageHeight) stored in the image header instead of the real dimensions of the File (ImageWidth, ImageHeight).
    Windows users can verify EXIF info by using for example the free tools XnView, Exifier or best ExifToolGUI.
    In my case, the image dimensions were 1200x1710 (real actual dimensions) and around 1469x2084 (EXIF metadata).
    Now how can that be - this does not make any sense ?
    Well, obviously, the original file had larger dimensions and was resized without deleting the EXIF dimensions.
    Because Acrobat uses the EXIF info intstead of the actual dimensions, the PDF looks distorted as a result.
    Again, Foxit Phantom uses the actual image dimensions when creating PDFs.
    How to solve the issue:
    In case you have image files with different dimensions, the easiest way to fix this is by selectively deleting EXIF metadata using:
    1) PhotoShop for single files (File > Save for Web & Devices > set “Metadata” to “None”: http://photographylife.com/how-to-delete-exif-data#ixzz2i0wFMNpE
    2) ExifToolGUI (free) for multiple files in a folder: ExifTool direct > Command: -r -Exif:all= ( http://u88.n24.queensu.ca/~bogdan/ )

  • Create dynamic PDF form

    I would like to create a PDF fillable form which will be used by sales reps to generate quotations for customers. Which adobe software should I use (LiveCycle or formscentral)?
    I don't need to submit the form contents to any URL but I need to save the filled in details in the same form.
    create multiple rows to add multiple line items with prices and qty, calculate the total based on line items added etc.
    please suggest / advise.
    thanks in advance.

    Is it possible to do this without coding? Due to the nature of my job, i'm limited to certain software, accesses and accessibilities.
    My idea is to have 1 master PDF or a Form for me to put in their information. This form would be linked to a Master PDF Binder.
    For example if a new employee joins, i would like to fill out the information in such form and it will change the information in the document I will be sending to the new employee.
    I hope this example explains my situation.

  • How to open the pdf document from KM  through Link to URL UI element

    Hi All,
    I have Link to URL UI element  in webdynpro java layout - on click of the link we need to open the pdf document from KM respository.
    KM Document location : irj/go/km/docs/documents/RHPortal//USA/A/Test/Employee_details.pdf.
    Once this is transported to Test and Production portals , we need to retrieve the KM document from the respective portal location through the Link to URL UI element .
    Thanks,
    Portaluser100

    Hi,
    If you set the link to your document in a Context attribute by using a relative path this should work just fine.
    Example:
    wdContext.currentContextElement().setUrl("/irj/go/km/docs/documents/RHPortal//USA/A/Test/Employee_details.pdf");
    Bind that attribute to the reference property of the LinkToURL element.
    Cheers,
    Leo

  • How big a .pdf file can be?

    I produce a pdf-binder with 1500 several pdf-pages made of scanned paper clippings.
    this binder contains an index to browse the several pages and must be produced on CD.
    the filesize is more than 500 MB, so the performance of this CDs is not so well.
    now my questions:
    how big a acrobat pdf-file can be?
    how many pages can a .pdf document include?
    any tips to boost the reading performance on the CD?

    First, you have to investigate what's the max size your and your recipient's mail providers permit. In many cases, that is the main limiting factor. Next, you need to configure the mail program you use to avoid auto-zip'ing the attachments.
    Need more info? Provide more details on what you're using.
