Pdf creation problems

I have been updating various computers and one of them is giving me problems.  When the user sends a pdf print from AutoCAD via our pdf pc3 file, AutoCAD sends the print just fine, but then the file ends up in the pdf pc3 que and gives and error message.  When I go back to AutoCAD, it says everything is fine and no errors even though the file just sits in the que.
In word the same thing happens.  The file is sent from word and ends up in the que with an error.
Any ideas?

Hello dgtmantis,
From a look about it appears that "pdf pc3" is a creature of Autodesk, eh?
Came across the two items below.

Rather than using pdf pc3 you may want to consider use of Acrobat and its associated PDFMaker.
This would permit avoidance of pdf pc3 all together.
Just my natter, but If PDF is a "deliverable" then whatever means of creating PDF is used it really ought to be tight with ISO 32000-1 (ISO's PDF Standard).
Acrobat delivers that; which provides a high confidence level in the output PDF.
Be well...

  • PDF creation problem

    I have just installed Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended and when I try to create a pdf file from an In-Design file I get the following message;
Acrobat could not find the application that created this file. Please select a file created by an application that resides on your computer.
Adobe In-Design DOES reside on my computer!
    Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem when trying to create a pdf for an indd file. I get the message Adobe Acrobat could not find the application that created this file. Please select a file created by an application that resides on your computer. InDesign does reside on my computer.
The reason I'm trying to use Acrobat Pro 9 to create the pdf for indd file is that when I try to create the pdf by exporting the indd file to pdf, the pdf shows up as an Illustrator pdf.
Some time ago I opened a file within a folder and created a pdf from there, and the pdf created was an Illustrator pdf. I surmise that there must have been an Illustrator file in that folder, or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. But, in fact, any pdf file residing on my desktop got converted to an Illustrator pdf. Sure, I can open the file, but Illustrator is a more limited program. Anyway I want to get back the pdf function without having to deal with a pdf formatted with Illustrator. Any suggestions to guide me in the right direction are greatly appreciated.

    what's wrong??

  • Pdf creation problem in Excel and Word

I have Windows 7 Pro and Office 2010.  Up until a month ago, when I created a pdf in Excel or word, it would automatically open up so I can review.  I then downloaded the trial version of Acrobat® XI Pro.  When the trial version ended, I uninstalled the Acrobat® XI Pro.  I still have the standard Adobe Acrobat Reader installed.  Now when I create a pdf it no longer automatically opens, and I always need to review it before sending it out.  How do I fix this?

Do you the latest Office update 14.4.5?

  • Quark / PDF Printing Problems (Save as PDF in OS X)

I upgraded from Quark 4.1 to 6.5 about a year ago, and ever since then the files I create and print don't look as good. The primary issue seems to be color -- colors don't come out as deep, there seems to be less color saturation, sometimes colors are just pretty far off. I'm working in Mac OS 10.4.8.
For many years my method has been to design documents and output as PDFs to be professionally printed. These days my PDFs don't print as well. I suspect that the problem has to do with the process of creating the PDF. In Quark 6.5 I create PDFs by selecting "Save as PDF" from Quark's Print menu. Back when I was using 4.1, since Quark didn't have a built-in PDF-creator, I would go into the Chooser, select AdobePS as my printer, and then just choose Print in Quark and it would "print" to a PDF.
One other problem I've had since the upgrade is that the PDFs Quark creates are HUGE files -- tens or hundreds of megs -- often too large to email. When I used to create PDFs from the identical Quark files using 4.1, the resulting PDFs printed much better and were much smaller files (often far less than 1 meg). Solving the color problem is a higher priority for me than solving the file size issue, though.
I've spent a lot of time trying to troubleshoot this with our local printer here in Albany, NY (the same guy who printed my stuff in the old days, when it came out looking a lot better). Things we've tried that haven't seemed to solve the problem:
    - Increasing the LPI to 300
    - Checking the box for Full Resolution Tiff Output
    - Experimenting with OPI active and not
    - Experimenting with different PDF options like "Save as PDF," "Compress PDF," "PDF-X," etc. (Compress PDF does result in smaller PDFs, but the quality of the resulting prints is even worse)
Also, if anyone has suggestions about Quark-specific forums I could post this to, let me know. I tried creating an account on the discussion forms on Quark's website, but I don't receive their confirmation email to confirm my account.
Any advice greatly appreciated -- thanks so much!

    Marshall,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
colin clarke1’s info is spot on. I will add a bit more. Acrobat Professional includes Distiller in addition to a print driver called Adobe PDF 7.0 (version number matches version of Acrobat). I think the print driver installs automatically, but if not, you should choose to install it and then it will show in your list of printers. This will allow you to make PDFs from Quark XPress much as you did with Quark 4.1.
Distiller comes with some pre-defined Settings (formerly know as Job Options) for different types of printing, i.e., Smallest file (low-resolution like online viewing), Standard, High Quality, Press Quality and others. These Settings are general standards in the industry in terms amount and type of image compression, font embedding, color management, compatibility with previous Acrobat versions and etc.
colin clarke1’s method of saving a Quark doc as a PostScript and then distilling it is one method. (You can set this in your Quark Preferences.) Alternatively, you could do the following within Quark XPress…
    (a) Select Print, which brings up the Print window. At the bottom of the window are some buttons. Click on Page Setup and in its window, for Format for: select the Adobe PDF 7/8, the appropriate Paper size and then OK.
    (b) Returning to the Quark print window, make all the necessary choices for Layout, Setup, Output, Options, Layers, Bleed, OPI and Profiles.
    (c) Next, click on the button Printer (at the bottom) which brings up a Mac OS print window. Click to the right of Printer and select Adobe PDF 7/8. Next, click and hold on Copies & Pages for a drop-down list of options and select PDF Options. Click on the bar to the right of Adobe PDF Settings and a list of Distiller Settings will pop up and select the one that best fit the type of printing you are doing, e.g., Press Quality. If you want to see the PDF version afterwards, then select Acrobat for After PDF Creation. Click Ok.
    (d) Returning to the Quark print window, click Print button (lower right). A Save window appears for you to name your document and select where you wish to save in on your computer. (If you choose to see the PDF afterwards, then Acobat will launch and the PDF will then appear in Acrobat.)
You could learn more about the latest version of Acrobat 8.0 (released November 2006) by Adobe’s “tour” at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/productinfo/features/
    Hope this helps.

  • Word crashes mid PDF creation - Word 2003 Acrobat 9.3.0

I have a new PC and a fresh clean install of CS5 Design Permuim, including Arobat 9. The organisation is still using Office 2003 and no upgrade path in sight for that. Myself and several colleagues with the same software profile are now experiencing frequent problems with Word crashing mid PDF creation.
This has always been an issue with the ocassional Word file in Acrobat 8, but Distiller always worked as an alternative - NOT this time!
PDF Maker gives no error message, just that Word has encounted a problem and needs to close.
Distiller produces the following log message, then freezes completely. I then have to force quit Word to exit!
    %%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
%%[ Error: syntaxerror; OffendingCommand: --nostringval-- ]%%
    Stack:
    /mF_OTF_V
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
Not all documents are affected, but I can remove almost all of the content from the affected document and it still causes the error.
I have tried repairing Acrobat - no change.
One other odd symptom - after each crash, the default printer on the machine has changed to Adobe PDF.
I can successfulkly make the PDF on another machine which has not been upgraded to Acrobat 9. The rest of the settings are identical on the two machines, they are both running a standard organisation environment, with the same verion of word etc.
Can anyone suggest how to fix or at least isolate the cause of the problem?

Please update to latest Acrobat 9 release which is 9.4.2.
    Also do let us know
    a) office 2003 flavour: Standard or professional?
    b) OS flavour? Also whether it is 32bit or 64bit?
Also as you mentioned that "Not all documents are affected", so we would require any of your affected file to analyze the issue. Can you please share the file? You can use acrobat.com to share the file.
    Thanks,
    Vishal

  • White Noise showing up in images after PDF Creation

I am currently running into an issue making PDFs from InDesign CS4. Lately, our company has been getting some rather large jobs in to print and that's when this all started.
The current job is 190 pages plus cover that will be perfect bound. The client, nor I can make one large PDF from this job so we have to break it up into sections. Usually each of the PDF sections has around 20-50 pages per.
Now the issue we're running into is that on some of the pages, an image will end up with a bar or lines in it that looks like white noise. Like the image information was lost for a short period of time during the PDF creation from InDesign.
Here are two pictures of pages from separate jobs and a close up on what's going on. **Second image was from a 32 page plus cover document we have already printed.
Now in order for me to fix this issue is to just make a single page PDF of the effected pages in the document. I just wish I knew what was causing this issue so I know how to avoid it in the future. So far four jobs have been affected like this; two 32 page + cover jobs, a 64 page + cover job, and is job.
We use a Rampage Workflow system here. My PDF settings in InDesign CS4 has all compression turned off, no profiles or color conversion turned on. I keep compression turned off because it seems sometimes, vector art done in Illustrator does not seem to come out looking well when RIP'd in Rampage.
My main computer is a 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 4 BG of memory running Mac OS X 10.5.8.
My current version of InDesign CS4 is 6.0.3.  If anyone has run into this problem or if anyone has any helpful hints for me, I could really use them please. If you need more information from me, I'll be happy to answer any questions.
    Thanks for all the help!
    Roc

That one has come up every now and then and has always been hardware as far as I know....  bad ram, bad cable, bad drive, bad network maybe even bad video card (?).
I see that the lines in the rotated pic are parallel with that pic, so maybe look at the machine where that pic was made and placed first, this is not definite, but you can get corruption in tiffs on machines with hardware errors and they may not be visible every time you open the file.
Although probably a bigger clue is the fact that doing singles is working better, that would make me change the ram completely, suspecting a bad module.  Also, unplug peripheral devices and see if that has any bearing.

  • Adobe PDF Creation Add-On 9 install error

I have just upgraded to Windows 7 32-bit and was able to install Robohelp HTML without any problems. However, when I try to install the Adobe PDF Creation Add-On I get the following message: "This installation package could not be opened.  Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."
Since I rely on the PDF Creation Add-On to create PDF files I need to find a resolution to this problem.  Is there a Window 7 version of the Robohelp installer that I can use?

  • 10.6.7 - general pdf creation issues?

I wondered whether anyone else had run into this issue after updating to 10.6.7 when using pdfs created by Preview - perhaps related to the pdf/font issue.
If it is generally happening, then the 10.6.7 pdf-font issue has an even larger
    impact than previously described:
    1. Open a pdf document in Preview
    2. Select a region and save to clipboard
    3. Save as a new pdf file
    4. Then try importing it as a "Picture" into any of the new Office 2011 apps: Word, PPT, etc.
This crashes my office 2011 apps (latest version, 14.02) But NOT any earlier version of Office (2008. etc.), which may not do as much pdf checking.
Before the 10.6.7 upgrade (ie, 10.6.6), this never happened with Office 2011.
Acrobat complains when opening the Preview-created pdfs about 'missing fonts', so I suspect some sort of pdf creation issue.
Any fixes (besides the previously suggested one of downgrading to 10.6.6)
If it's a real bug (not just local to my system), then it's a more far-reaching one than previously described.

So, 3 different Apple tech support people say they know this problem affects
"multiple applications, including any that deal with pdf files" but that "no fix is

That is wrong because it only involves OpenType Postscript fonts.
The only solution offered so far is to "downgrade by doing Archive & Install" and
then re-applying each Combo Upgrade, starting with 10.6.3 up to 10.6.6.
You wouldn't have to do that either. That is the point of a Combo update. You only need to apply the one you want. It includes all of the previous updates.

  • Distiller Suddenly Shuts Down during pdf creation...

Never had a problem in Acrobat 6.0.1 on Mac OS 10.4.1.
Suddenly, Distiller takes all .ps or .eps files to almost 100% of pdf creation, then crashes.
Says "Can't process job because PDFLib failed to initialize."  Might have happened after I used "FontNuke" to zap font caches, which never caused a problem before either.
EasyFind can't find a file called "PDFLib"
    Thanks for any help!

    Thanks!

  • Adobe PDF Creation Add-on keeps installing!

Hi. I have a annoying problem on my Vista computer. Every time I click on a pdf related folder, program or file "Adobe PDF Creation Add-on" installs. Again and again, and all over again. Please help me fix this issue.
    Greeting from Norway
(If you need more spesifications just say so :P )

Did you ever figure out how to fix your problem? I've got the same issue. I installed Acrobat Pro 8.1.4 upgrade and now it continually tells me its installing whenever I:
    1. Start my computer
    2. Start MS Office 2007
    3. Start Mozilla Firefox
If I disable the addon to make PDFs then it doesn't try to install. The installation obviously doesn't work because even if I allow it to complete the installation process and restart it still tries to install again and the software doesn't work properly. Sometimes Acrobat opens, other times it just keeps trying to install.
If you have figured out how to fix it, It would be nice if you could pass on the info.
I did try using the MS Office installation cleaner (another forum recomended it), but that was totally useless.
    Thanks

  • Acrobat stops functioning halfway through PDF creation

I have to convert a very large WORD document (a book, 680 pages including illustrations, tables, index etc.) to PDF. Let me begin by explaining that I've already done this in the past, using Acrobat Professional 5 and Office 2000 Professional; it took ages to create the PDF file, but I was able to do it. At that stage I actually had Acrobat 6, but since it blocked halfway through PDF creation, I went back to Acrobat 5 and managed to create my PDF file.
I've recently had to revise the document in question, but I now have Office 2007, Acrobat Professional 8.1.2, and a new laptop (Acer Aspire 5105, AMD Turion 64x2, 2.0 GHz, 160GB HDD). I tried converting it to pDF yesterday, but once again found that the program blocked halfway through (while creating Tags; it gets up to 60%, and then just stops functioning). I thought this might have something to do with the sceensaver starting up, or else the automatic saving of the WORD document, but I don't think this is the case.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be, and how o solve it?
    Mark

It should convert exactly as long as you have done the editing with the Adobe PDF printer selected. This is a WORD issue. The ability to do the conversion was my concern and tags are likely the issue for such a large document, particularly if you have a lot of graphics. Keep in mind that to create the PDF, a PS file is first created -- that is a format that is not very small in terms of storage and could be huge. Your TEMP folder is typically limited by windows and may need to be emptied to hold this file.
Optimizing the graphics up front is also good. Using Mike's suggestion to find the problem graphic would be useful, but is hard to do with PDF Maker (I don't think you can select the pages with PDF Maker). Printing to the Adobe PDF printer will check the layout and also the ability to do the conversion. If the latter works, it is then a matter of determining what you need in PDF Maker.
If you do not need the markup (or wish to add later), then you can save a lot of space by simply printing to the Adobe PDF printer. With PDF Maker, you likely need to go back and review the defaults.

  • Adobe PDF creation cannot continue because Acrobat not activated

Adobe CS3, Acrobat Professional 8.1.0, Windows XP Pro: CS3 has been working faultlessly for several years. Suddenly, when I try to print using Adobe PDF as printer I get message "Adobe PDF creation cannot continue because Acrobat not activated". To my knowledge all of CS 3 should be activated. InDesign, Photoshop, Bridge, Illustrator, etc work fine. I can even open Acrobat 8 and call up documents but I cannot print to it. When I click on "Activation" in Help menu, both "Activate" and "Deactivate" are grayed out. Any suggestions?

Perhaps you should use this tool:
    <http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/licensing.html>
The tool repairs the license but before using this tool, have you tried re-booting the system just in case this is a temporary problem?  Also, it is a good idea to create a temporary profile and try using the PDF printer to see if it is working.
If it is working in your temporary profile, then this suggests that your preference file might need to be re-created but this is for next time after you have tried using the pdf in your test profile.

  • Missing and partially-missing elements when printing PDF's -- Problems began 3 days ago

Source files and PDF's created from them are printing fine from Ai and PS, but the same Ai- and Ps-created PDF's opened in Acrobat Pro or preview app are not.  Elements are missing, some completely, some partially; half a word or half an image missing, or an image but no drop shadow and vis-versa.  Furthermore, what does and doesn't print changes with each printing attempt.
Not sure what the problem is; it's not a matter of color profile of items or documents, missing links, outline vs. text, or even vector vs. raster.
All attempts to print have been on digital printers, both here in our office and at a local print shop, with the same results.  Problem just started 3 days ago; can't find anything in forums and am not sure where to turn...

You probably need to start by establishing whether your problem is before or after creation.
To do that just open in Acrobat a file made before the problem started which you are SURE used to be good.
    - If it's still good, you have a problem with PDF creation
    - If it's gone bad you have a problem with PDF printing
