PDF generation of existing PSP pages

We have a web application that uses psp or mod_plsql to build dynamic web pages. We're wanting take this a step further and turn these pages into a pdf report or even an html file as a start which could then be converted to pdf with other tools.
Has anybody successfully done this and could offer some guidance?
Thanks

What are you using to generate the PDF?  There are many options out there.
If you are using cfdocument then check the ColdFusion documentation for it here (notice the section about Supported CSS styles about half-way down)  http://http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ColdFusion/9.0/CFMLRef/WSc3ff6d0ea77859461172e0811cbec2 2c24-7c21.html
From that page:
The cfdocument tag can render HTML that supports the following standards:
HTML 4.01
XML 1.0
DOM Level 1 and 2
CSS1 and CSS2 (For more information, see the “Supported CSS styles” section).
The cfdocument tag does not support the Internet Explorer-specific HTML generated by Microsoft Word.
If you are using some other product, then check it's documentation for limitations.

  • RH PDF generation problems: wrong (A4) page size and Word 2013

I am trying to generate a review PDF of a handful or topics. It generates, but first I get an error:
    (I have Word 2013 installed.)
Then the PDF generates, but it is A4. I never use metric for anything, so where it is picking up A4 I can't imagine. I have all my PDF settings to letter. I checked Edit > Properties > PDF settings > Advanced settings, everything. It's all set correctly. Even all of my Word templates (which I am not using for this project anyway) are letter. Like I said: No metric pages or units of measure used ever. Not in Word, not in FrameMaker, not in Acrobat. Why does RoboHelp default to A4?
And why does it not consider Word 2013 "newer" than Word 2000?

Word 2013 is not supported by any version of Rh. The first part is correct so Rh throws the error message notwithstanding the second part is wrong.
You haven't mentioned the version of Rh you are using (please see the forum sticky topics) but you might find you can right click Properties in the print layout and generate to Word there. Using that route you may find the answer to the A4 issue. I'm puzzled by that as normally Rh defaults to Letter.
Are you using the PDF add-on or a full version of Acrobat, if the latter which one?

When we try to generate a PDF of our existing application pages, they are not rendered the same way as a browser would, it appears that the CSS styles are not processed in a totally compatible manner.

  • Reseting page number in Word RTF template for BI Publisher PDF generation

    Hi!
    Apex 4.0.2, Oracle 10.2.0.4, BIP 10.2
Bills are created based on Word RTF file with BI Publisher. Reszulting file is one big PDF file, which has many pages.
Word RTF template is grouped on BILLS.ID field with page break option. So one BILLS.ID may have one or many pages (according data).
How to create RTF template (for PDF BI Publisher generation) with reseting page numbers when grouping value change.
Page numbers are in footer in format
    curr_group_page/total_group_pages
    where:
curr_group_page is current page number in group (defined with BILLS.ID field),
total_group_pages is total page number of pages in group (defined with BILLS.ID field).
I need to reset numbering whenever BILLS.ID (group) change.
    Example:
    ID=1 (4 pages)
    1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4
    ID=2 (1 pages)
    1/1
    ID=3 (2 pages)
    1/2, 2/2
    ID=4 (3 pages)
    1/3, 2/3, 3/3
    etc.
How to achieve that kind of numbering?
    Any help appreciated.

Simple question.. Does your posting deal with an APEX issue or a BI Publisher issue? The posting you have deals with the RTF add-on for Word that builds report layouts for BI Publisher. I suggested in my response that you move it to a more relevant forum..
If you feel that me alerting you to the fact your are VIOLATING forum policy is an issue, please feel free to ask others their view.. (posting to a 3 year old closed thread, creating MULTIPLE threads for a single issue..) You do NOT seem to get the idea that posting this in the Bi Publisher support forum would probably get you a BETTER response than here.. Asking pl/sql questions here will also get people to refer your questions to the PL/Sql Support forum..
Also, here is a POSSIBLE answer from the BI Publisher Forum: http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=594805
This Is The APEX SUPPORT forum, we deal with SUPPORT questions on APEX (Application Express)..

I created a brochure in pages and exported it to a pdf format. The pdf looks and opens perfectly using preview but when opened in adobe reader (which my printer uses), fonts look odd, transparencies don't display...etc. Tells me error exists on page?

Does this essentially mean there is no way to fix this problem on my end? It's a pity because the design and branding of my brochure will suffer if I remove transparencies and use different fonts. It also concerns me moving forward because it means the quality of print on my pieces will be significantly lower because most commercial printers use Adobe products.

  • In Adobe ExportPDF, can you take an existing PDF and delete existing pages?  For example, I have a 5-page report and need to delete pages 2-4.  Is this possible?  Thanks!

    Hi,
You can do this with Adobe Acrobat.
If you are using Export PDF it is a long procedure.
You need to convert your PDF in word or powerpoint.
Then you can edit the document & again can create PDF.

  • CFDOCUMENT PDF generation peformance on Linux running CF server 8 or 9 is horrible

Can anyone help me understand how I can get the <cfdocument> tag to generate PDFs in reasonable time (and without throwing timeout errors) when running on CF 8 on Linux? Running on CF 9 doesn't make a difference, either. I can run the same code that generates a PDF on a Win 7 system and it completes the 1-2 page PDF in seconds.  Do the same thing in CF8/9 on Linux and it takes so long (minutes) and then throws a timeout error. When we tried using Railo instead of CF8/9 it ran fine as well.

Our apps guy figured out the problem after googling the error log message. To put this in context, the deployed app is running in a Tomcat container on Linux.
The root cause is Java's AWT thinking there should be an Xserver available to talk to.  Somehow in the code interactions during the PDF generation,  calls are made to an Xserver that doesn't exist, with an absurdly long  timeout.  Adding the line "-Djava.awt.headless=true" to the catalina.sh  script has solved the issue.
    Hope this helps others!

  • I've created a PDF form using Adobe acrobat. I created the forms from a PDF that I made using pages

I've created a PDF form using Adobe acrobat. I created the forms from a PDF that I made using pages and word on Mac running Mountain lion. How do I allow the user of the form to insert JPEG files when filling out the form and how do I allow the user to add more fields or groups of fields as needed.

The type of form yo're describing is possible if you create it in LiveCycle Designer. It may also be possible in Acrobat, but there are certain restrictions. The type of form is known as a dynamic XFA form. LiveCycle Designer is not available on the Mac, so you'd have to install the software on a Windows machine and learn how to create this type of form. The LiveCycle Designer forum here is a good resource for getting more help.
Reader 11 now supports creating new pages using templates with a form that you create in Acrobat (Acroform). This requires some JavaScript programming. It also adds support for using a button to display a page from a PDF, which can be an image or anything else a PDF can be. So the user would click a button, be prompted to import a page from an existing PDF, and the button (or a different button) displays it as its icon. This would require the user to convert the image to PDF first, which is relatively easy these days (e.g., using Preview on the Mac, or Word on Mac/Windows). This too involves a bit of JavaScript programming, but it's very simple and straightforward.

  • Very slow PDF generation when conditional text is hidden in FM 9.0

I am working on 96-page chapter of a larger book. A 7-page section of the chapter needs to be hidden until the next release, so I hid it with conditional text. After doing this, the "Save as PDF" printing process goes from taking 6-7 seconds to taking several minutes. If I unhide the conditional text in the same session, printing is very quick again.
I have no problem generating very PDF files with the PDF printer in other applications (Word, PowerPoint). The issue is specific to FrameMaker and the use of conditional text. What might be causing this?
I am using FrameMaker 9.0p255 and Distiller 9.0.
    - Chris

    Hi Jeff,
These were good suggestions to try. Saving the document first has no effect on PDF generation.
However, I did find that printing to the Adobe PDF printer remains fast when the conditional text is hidden. That's quite an interesting finding! I did also notice that these two methods of PDF generation aren't identical:
"Save as PDF" opens an Adobe Distiller window, while printing to the Adobe PDF printer opens a different "Creating Adobe PDF" progress box (looks like it's from the printer driver itself).
"Save as PDF" generates a 1188k PDF file, while printing to the Adobe PDF printer generates a 1049k PDF file.
"Save as PDF" defaults to placing the PDF in FrameMaker's working directory, while printing to the Adobe PDF printer defaults to saving to the last place to saved a printed PDF file (awkward when working with multiple directories, as I often do).
When I do a "Save as PDF", FrameMaker does still spool to the PDF printer. It is this spooling that takes a long time. Once spooling is complete, then the Distiller window opens and the PDF is created very quickly.
I would still like to get "Save as PDF" working since it knows where to place the PDF file. No solution to the runtime yet, but at least there is progress...

  • PDF generation from FrameMaker v8

The "Save to PDF" feature (in FrameMaker v8) decided to stop working for me.  I used to use it regularly, and it used to work just fine.  I haven't been able to figure out why it is no longer working.
When I select it, I am shown the "PDF Setup for Selected Files" dialog, as usual, and I press [Set] as usual.  The status bar displays "Opening Chapter1.fm", etc., for each chapter, but then it just quietly stops.  When the target PDF file pre-existed, the target PDF was deleted, but no new PDF file appears in its place.  It does produce a Book.log file which has the following contents:
    %%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
%%[ Error: syntaxerror; OffendingCommand: %%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
I had the installer attempt to repair the installation, and when that didn't work, I uninstalled, re-downloaded, and re-installed Adobe FrameMaker v8.  I also had the installer repair "Adobe PDF Creation Add-on".   None of this had any impact -- the symptom remains the same.
I also tried "Print Book..." with "Print to file: Book.ps" and "Generate Acrobat Data [PDF]" set, and Printer: Adobe PDF.  This produced a Book.ps file, but no PDF file, nor did the PDF printer ask for a file name.  I don't normally generate the PDF in this fashion, so I'm not as comfortable with this method, but as a diagnostic, the fact that it also didn't generate the PDF seems to be a clue.  I assume Distiller is malfunctioning?
Can anyone give me some clues as to where I should look next?  Can I do anything that would provide further diagnostic clues?  Is there any paper that describes the architecture of Distiller / PDF-creator, which I might refer to for tracking down what configuration is messed up?
    Thanks,
    Lonnie

I re-installed the FM v8 patches, so that now I'm at FM 8.0p277.   Problem still persists, no change to symptoms.
The hotfix link was an excellent suggestion.  It definitely looked like it might be relevant.  Unfortunately, the hotfix page does not provide a download for XP x64.  I contemplated trying the Server 2003 x64 version, but after reading the warnings that came with it, I chicked out on trying that.  I put in a request to Microsoft for the XP x64 hotfix, which I have not received, but as I studied the hotfix a bit more, it looked less and less likely that this would be the problem, and even that I should probably not install it.  The hotfix itself replaces atmfd.dll with a new one labeled as version 5.1.2.277.   So I checked the version of my atmdf.dll, and I'm at 5.2.2.232.  The hotfix itself was put out in 2008.  I suspect I'm way past it in my Windows updates, and seems like it would be a bad idea to revert back to an earlier version.
The other thing that deserves mention is the fact that Save to PDF was working for me for the past 3 years, so my system has probably had whatever hotfix it needs.  I willingly concede that there are several holes in this, but it is still fairly compelling.
I clearly have something wrong with the "Adobe PDF Converter" printer driver.  So I think it is a logical course of action to focus on it.  For example, when I pull up any application (e.g., Notepad), and then Print... to the "Adobe PDF" printer, the "Creating Adobe PDF" progress dialog hangs indefinitely, usually with about 10% of the progress bar elapsed.  It seems like a simpler piece to focus on for now -- solve that, and I'll bet the Framemaker problem gets fixed.
I don't know how one re-installs the "Adobe PDF Converter" printer driver.  I'm pretty sure it got there when I installed FrameMaker v8.  My "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe" directory has these subdirectories:
    Acrobat 8.0
    Adobe Help Viewer
    Flash Player
    FrameMaker8
    Reader 10.0
    Reader 8.0
    There is a subdirectory C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF\AMD64
which I think contains be the "Adobe PDF" printer driver files.  The three DLLs in that directory all have valid digital signatures.  I assume that if one of them became corrupted for some reason, the digital signature would be invalidated.
Are there any theories for what the "Adobe PDF Converter" might be hanging on?  Anything relevant I can check or test via DevStudio (which I have)?
Continued thanks for all your efforts,
    Lonnie

  • PDF generation : FileNotFoundException problem

    Hi all,
I'm developing a dynamic PDF generation module in web application using iText framework. This module creates PDF on the server side then sends it to the client. Sometimes, Even though the PDF file is created on the hard disk, I got FileNotFoundException when calling the servlet that sends it.
My program is very simple (no thread used) :
1- The client calls enters some inputs,
2 - The iText based class generates the PDF,
3 - The PDF created is saved as an attribute in the client session (HttpSession).
4 - The request is redirected to servlet that sends the PDF.
What could be the problem ?
    thx,

In fact, I don't know what you mean by:
3 - The PDF created is saved as an attribute in the client session (HttpSession). What do you mean by this? Did you save the proprietry PDF object? Or the java.io.File object? If it is the PDF object, does its class implement java.io.Serializable?
Um ... Here are some suggestions ...
First of all, make sure that the file really exists there.
Secondly, try to write a Java SE program to read the file using the absolute path you provided.
Then, if the Java SE program works, I think the reason may be that you haven't closed the "OutputStream" which writes the PDF file, or the security settings of your JSPServer prevents you from getting the file.

  • PDF generation in SDK

    All,
I have some reports, whose PDF generation doesn't satisfy our requirements. A simple BO report page with a few sections.. ends up as a multiple page PDF. I had tried to also use the report/section properties as creatively as possible too.
I would like to get some information about if some-one has done PDF generation using SDK and if that provides more feature-rich formatting options?
Would appreciate your comments and advice.
    Regards

Let's start with what version of CR / BO you are working with.
    What SPs have you applied?
What version of .NET do you want to work with? What SDK do you want to work with (CR, RAS, BO)?
Are you doing these exports in the CR designer? - If so, have you consulted with the CR Design team on best way to design these reports? Typically, if you can not do something in the desinger, you more than likely can not do it from code either...

  • Will Aperture work with existing iWeb pages and MM galleries from iPhoto?

Now that Aperture is available as an $80 app, I am considering moving from iPhoto to Aperture. If I do, will Aperture work seamlessly with my existing iWeb pages and MM galleries, set up via iWeb and/or iPhoto? The other editing programs I use on occasion are Nikon Capture NX2, and Photoshop Elements. Also, if I want to at time remain in "simple iPhoto" mode while using Aperture, is this possible, or will my life be more complicated for every edit? Thank you!

Slightly disappointed in the dearth of good web page
creating options in Aperture (you'd think they'd be
better, no?). Can I get iWeb and create web pages
    using my Aperture photos?
Yes, iWeb can access your Aperture images if you've enabled previous. I tried this and found iWeb's web galleries quite horrid. After experimenting with a variety of options, I settled on customizing Aperture's web galleries and grafting together pages created by the two programs. iWeb works fine for throwing together some top level pages, and you can then hang Aperture web galleries off them as external links. Several folks have posted instructions on how to do this, and one fellow assembled a nice PDF.
    Cheers,

  • FM 12: How do I create a .ps file of a book? (errors prevent PDF generation)

FM 12: How do I create a .ps file of a book? (errors prevent PDF generation)

There's probably a graphic on one of your pages that is causing a postscript division error (i.e. divide by zero?) See also: PostScript error offending command div
As Jeff suggests, track down the errant graphic to see what's wrong. If you print to file, you should get an idea of roughly where in the docs the error occurs by watching the print thermometer display.

  • BI 7.0 Web PDF Generation

    Hi folks,
I do have a severe problem with PDF generation and it looks like a common issue.
I integrated Button to convert my Management Webreport to PDF, no big issue so far.
But the generated PDF is not bevaing like expected. We do have a BI report that contains 3 charts horizontally alligned by a table to fit the screen and 1 table below
    those charts.
This report fits perfectly on one page landscape.
When generating PDF locally (PDF generator installed on client PC) Internetexplorer ==>PDF works as expected.
When using the Button in Webtemplate to use the BI functionality to export to PDF the PDF is a mess.
All template items are displayed in sequence taht means instead of 3 horizontal charts I see 3 charts and 1 table underneath each other.
It looks like the old fashioned 3.x print function.
    My question:
Is there a way to influence the PDF generation. Maybe a class ( like former 3.x  Table Interface) to modify to render the PDF like the template appearance?
We cannot install PDF clients locally nor can we ship management those reports coming from BI. Report designer is no alternative because of missing functionality.
    TIA
    Joerg

    Thanks so far,
currently when using the container item and referring by command wizard ( export to PDF) the system is not generating any item.
Error Message 'file has no page and can't be opened...' occurs.
I think this is a really urgent Development issue because I think printing via PDF is getting more and more important since not everyone is using IE7 ( which is not fully supported by SAP either) to scale pages for printing.
    Best regards
