PDF has missing text when created from FM 9

My Software:
Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP 3
FrameMaker 9.0p255
Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Version 9.4.1
When generating a PDF document from FrameMaker, the PDF document has random missing text, including whole paragraphs, sentences and some text in tables. We have several FrameMaker books and they are all having the same issues. These books were fine when we last published updates within the last month and we have not made any changes to fonts.
When generating a PDF from FrameMaker, we always print the book to a postscript file first following these steps:
- Go to File > Print Book.
- Select the Adobe PDF printer.
- Select the Print to File option and specify a .ps filename.
- Select the Generate Acrobat Data option.
- Use Acrobat Distiller to convert the PS file to PDF.
Note that I also tried File > Save As PDF and got the same results.

Did you reboot after the hotfix? fwiw, other users on the forum have had difficulty with the hotfix not being installed correctly the first time around.
once you download the hotfix from MS you have to run the .exe, and then  when it’s finished you have to reboot. Then check the Add or  Remove programs in Control panel, and click the “show updates” button,  then scroll way down to see the hotfixes, to be sure that #952909 is  shown.
What fonts are you using in your documents? Specific type (PS, TT, OTF) and any other info you have (foundry, etc).
Do the "gaps" seem to occur when there are font changes in the document, e.g. when words in a sentence are bold or when a paragraph in a different weight (e.g. bold italic) follows, say, a "regular" text weight paragraph? As another test, can you highlight a segment of good+bad+good text in the PDF, do Control+c to copy it to the clipboard, then Control+v to paste it into a different file (Word, text editor, even another new FM document).  Do the words of the "missing" text segments show up?
edit: the hotfix download process is a bit confusing; if I remember correctly it has to be requested, then MS sends a link to the download webpage, then the downloaded .exe has to be run.

    Hello,
    Is there a way to edit the PR item short text when the PR is generated from a Work Order. When we open the PR, the item short text is grayed out.
    We have created Material Master Number for Contract/ BPA items. When we input that particular material number under the components tab on the WO then release it ,it creates a PR. The Material Master description gets transfered to the PR.
    Our issue is that the Material Master is to generic and we would like to change the description on the PR level.
    Is this possible?

    I think neither there is any way to change the Material Description in PR nor its a good SAP Practise as it is having lot of implecations of stocking , physical inventory , reconciliation etc .
    If Item codes are generic suggest if u can use the PR or PO long text to enable the buyer for the procurement & supplier for supply the material as per long text specifications .

    Firstly, I really like the new reminders in iOS 7. However, I noticed that apple reminders do not disappear from "all" and "missed" view when dismissed from "today" view of notification center by marking the circle by the reminder. it requires me to take an extra step and click on "all" and then click the "x" to make it completely disappear and clear from notification center.
    why is this? am i doing something from?

    unfortunately, that does not address my question. your link describes how to clear the missed section of center.  I know how to clear the missed section of notification center, as I said in the original question. I will re-peat my question to clarify. it is:

    the behavior I would expect would be that when i click the circle on the "today" view. it would clear it out from the missed and all view so i would not have to clear in 2 areas.

    I have requriement for user statuses on notifications (IW21/22) should carryover to order when created from notification automatically.
    Did anybody worked on this type of scenerios. I already found some userexit (QQMA0014) but i could not able to find any thing related to user status in VIQMEL view.
    At the time of creation of notification IW21, when i go for creation of order, User status of notification should copied to order automatically.

    Thanks Anji for your response.Yes there is FM status_read which i can use to get Status but my problem is during creation of order from notification, i don't have notification number so i can't use any database tables to get status for later use. As per requirment, during creation of notification, I can go to order creation. at that time whatever user-status I choose at notifcation, same status should get copied to order. I hope it got clear to you now.

  • My apple Tv has audio problems when streaming from my NAS server.

    My Apple TV has audio problems when streaming from my NAS server or computer and even internet. I can hear the click sound it makes when you click on the icons, but when the movie starts there is no audio. This even happens when using XBMC. I have HMDI directly to my TV suing Apple TV 2. I have tried resetting, turning off both TV and Apple TV, and changing the HDMI cable. It is driving me nuts.

    XMBC requires a hack, we cannot help with hacked devices.

  • Using Create PDF from Web Page; Resulting PDF is missing text

    Trying to create pdf's from various web pages.  Generally process works very well but some pages have missing text and bad formatting.   Specifically; http://www.robinhood.ca/Recipes/Occasions/Spring/Apricot-Tartlets
    When I create the PDF; I am missing the text under "directions" and the description is truncated and forced to the far right.  
    Seems like I am missing a formatting or font setting but I have adjusted everything I can think of and have had no luck.  
    Running Acrobat Pro XI.  
    Anybody have any thoughts?  

    yes; looking at the source; seems that <table> is being captured correctly but the part that is missing is a <div>.    I'm not an expert at deciphering the page source but seems like that is the problem.
    Is there a work around? 
    when I print via the firefox plugin it prints fine.  but i ultimately want to capture several layers on the site if I can get the formatting resolved. 

  • PDF has missing 'o' from printouts

    I'm running MAC OS X 10.6.8 and when I print from PREVIEW Version 5.0.3 (504.1), my lower case "o"s do not print.  They do however print from ADOBE.  I've updated my printer driver; firmware; checked and fixed fonts in the font book.  The problem still exists.  The problem happens on 2 separate computers at 2 separate locations on 2 separate HP printers (the common denominator is the version of PREVIEW).

  • Missing text after EXPORT from PMD to PDF

    Hi,
    I have a document, designed through Adobe pagemaker 70, which I would like converted to PDF. Within Adobe PageMaker 70 I performed a File-->Export-->Adobe PDF, kept all the default options and managed to generate a PDF version of the *.PMD document. However, some of the text in the PDF document is missing. I searched on the internet and discovered one can do Document-->Examine Document within Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro to display any hidden text. Doing this I was able to see the missing text.
    There is an image in the source Pagemaker document, but the image is not square but cropped along it's outside edge and the text flows around the edge (hope that makes sense).  What's puzzling is that in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro the generate PDF has the image displayed in a box and some (not all) the text behind this box is shown as hidden, where as in the source document all text flowing around the image is visible.
    Can anyone please help with this problem and tell me how I can get the hidden text in my PDF document to display so it's visible in an Acrobat Reader or when printed?... I am still a bit of a newbie with both Pagemaker and Acrobat so your help would be much appreciated.

  • Missing Text when using CONVERT to PDF

    I am using Acrobat Pro 9 in Wnidows 7 and Microsoft Publisher 2003.
    When I use the CONVERT command to create a PDF - it is missing all of the text on the master page.
    If I create the PDF with the PRINT command - everything is OK.
    PS: The same Publisher File on another computer using Acrobat Pro 8 works fine - CONVERT or PRINT and no missing text
    I prefer to use convert because sometimes the PRINT command drops some of the hyperlinks.

  • PDF missing text when browsing or linking to a page

    Hello,
    I have an issue with missing text in a PDF file when I try and browse directly to a page in a PDF. Interestingly, the text is not missing when you open the PDF and navigate to the same page from within the PDF. The first Character(s) of the title are missing.
    The title of this page should say Criminal Justice, but the "C" is missing when you visit this link--

    This only happens if you try to navigate directly to a page. If you use the pagers within the PDF then the text is fine. If you change the link in the url to represent the page you are trying to visit, the characters disappear again.
    Any thoughts or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

    PDF file is published as compatible with version 6. Original document was published as PDF from Indesign.
    Hmmm, I have tested on 4 machines and still get the same results. These machines are all XP/IE machines though. Any other thoughts?

  • VA01 copies texts, but VA02 does not when creating from reference

    I am having an issue with text determination configuration.  It is currently set up to copy some header texts from the quote to the order when an order is created from reference.  This works correctly when using transaction VA01 to create an order from reference.
    However, the issue arises when using VA02 to create from reference, the items copy over correctly from the quote, but texts and other data do not copy over correctly.  Any ideas on why this might be the case?

    Thanks for your replies.  I know the correct way to do this is to use VA01 and Create from reference.  However, the way that the order processing group has always done this is to create a "dummy" order using VA01, then use VA02 to "modify" the order by going to menu option Sales Document -> Create with Reference.  This has the effect of copying over all items from the quote into the order.  However, no sales texts are copied over when this is done.  I'm wondering if there is a config that needs to be modified to allow texts to copy over using this method.
    When I go into the texts tab in VA02 and display the log, the texts that I need copied over say something like, "Text does not exist".  I have a feeling that the text is not copied over because the order does not have a reference to the quote at the time the text determination is evaluated.

    As per topic, when we download to PDF from Answers or dashboards, does anybody know the DPI that is used ? You'd normally specify it on creation of the pdf.

    Well its BI Publisher related but I want going to say that :-)
    Im having trouble with a background image in a BIP report, its not rendering on the PDF the same as in MS Word when Im building the RTF template. In order to get the required pixel size I would need the DPI used when createing an A4 size PDF so I can work out exactly the dimensions I need for my jpg.
    Hope that makes sense, and yes its the wrong forum technically but Im hopiing the whole PDF generation might be shared across OBIEE / BIP

  • Pages 5.2 Table missing text when printed

    I created a document with several tables.  These tables contain algebra formulas with superscript.  I read in another forum that the issue may be the use of the superscript.  However their problem only occurred when printing the document as a PDF.  I am having the problem printing from both Pages and as a PDF.  Some superscript appears as it should.  Not all missing text is superscript.
    Any ideas?  I hate to have to recreate this document in Word.  I took me forever to create.

    Known limitation with Pages v5.2. If you had Pages ’09 installed before the upgrade downgrade to Pages v5.2, it was moved to /Applications/iWork ’09.
    You will need to export from Pages v5.2 as Pages ’09 in order to process your work in the older Pages version. You will also need to open the Pages ’09 document either through that Applications file chooser, or via the right-click, contextual menu Open with > Pages (4.3). Double-clicking with both Pages installed will default to using Pages v5.2.
    LibreOffice is a free alternative to MS Word, and works better with Mavericks than does OpenOffice.

    When creating a PO for a specific material, I have to print a purchase order text different from the material description.
    To do this, a specific text has be added to the material master data in the tab "Purchase order Text" with the italian language maintained.
    But, when i start to create a new PO for this material, the short text that is shown is retrieved form the Material description and not from the Purchase order text that has been added before.
    How can I do to have the purchase order text shown in the PO instead of the common material description?

    2) In case we print the PO with the purchase order text added for the material, is there any point where we can find this information for the material, or we will see just the material description from the Material Master Data?

  • Jagged edges on text when printing from InDesign

    When I print text from InDesign, it prints with rough edges. This happens with text created in InDesign or imported from Photoshop. I can export the same image to a PDF though and it prints perfectly from Acrobat.

    Well, I'd say that you should just do your printing from Acrobat.
    ID is not really all that good at printing direct to a printer, and it won't print properly at all to some common ones (mostly HP and Ricoh, but not all of either). Are you printing for proofs or final output? I strongly advise printing proofs from the same PDF files that you will be sending out, anyway, and PDFs tend to process faster in the printer than native InDesing files, so you often can shorten the time it takes to get output by exporting to PDF, even including the time it takes to export (plus, export is a background task so you can continue to work in ID, but printing direct ties up the application).
