PDF not faithful to source document

Using Create PDF Online I can no longer exactly replicate the source MS/Word document as a pdf. Every conversion option including the default 'Screen' results in a readable (OCR) document that paginates differently from the original. No good for legal documents that (1) must be copied accurately and (2) have internal page references that are no longer accurate.

Thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately, I have more questions:
I have the Standard version of Acobat and do not see Document > Restore in my menu options. Is there another path for Adobe Acrobat Standard?
I am delivering this PDF to customers. I need the PDF to launch from the Web, and open to page 1. If I set the document properties, using Document > Restore, will the settings apply to the PDF that the customer downloads? Or, will the setting only work on my computer?
The first three pages of the PDF are set to Roman numerals (i, ii, iii) and then continues to Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3). Does setting page 1 to a Roman numeral affect how the PDF opens?
Thank you for your help!

    How can I convert my Open Source document files into Word document files? I cannot download Pages since my Macbook Air does not have the most recent software. I downloaded open office to my mac to try and save money. It worked well for a while. Now I get this pop-up message that asks me to "Reopen" and when I select the option, nothing happens. I cannot save my documents anymore and I cannot convert them to word. Help!

    Does OpenOffice output Word documents by default or do you have to select it manually?
    You have 17 options to save as in Open Office, one of which is .doc  files,  yes it needs to be saved manually.
    You may be able to default to DOC, but have not tried same.
    Since Open Office is 99% same as Word, I use it, or Word, either one.  Open Office is a bit less buggy than Word 11'

    Sorry I thought  was just a one off, it would be no use for large volumes.
    Do you not have this avaiable in the print menu in Preview with these documents?
    I have also found a link on the Adobe web site that discusses that this facilty is enabled by the creater of the PDF.

    If you do a web search there are various claims on how to save a protected PDF, I have'nt a way to test the proceedures. I would want a copy of any forms that I sent off, not sure why they protect them in this way, there must be a reason.

  • Bookmarks not working in multi-document PDF application

    Why are bookmarks not working in multi-document PDF application when uploaded to the web? We created a multi-document PDF application. All bookmarks and links work on our systems. All work on the customer's system. They do not work when uploaded to the customers website. Their IT department says its an issue of relative vs. absolute addressing. We've created applications like this for years without running into this issue. Can't find anything about it in Acrobat Help. Can anyone help or lead me to help? Thx much, Sandy

    Have you tried opening the file in your browser to see if the bookmarks are working?  To open the file in your browser you need to do this:
    1) Launch your favorite browser;
    2) File >> Open >> Select your pdf file
    See this picture to see what I am talking about.  You might need to click on it to magnify it:
    Good luck.

  • My client asks ... can we generate a PDF not via Word...?

    Using: RH HTML 7.0.3.
    Hi all,
    A client has invested time into developing a good CSS style sheet and RoboHelp template for creating a nice looking CHM HTML Help. My client wants to find a way of creating a nice looking PDF document without investing more time in developing a good Word template for export to PDF.
    The client asked me what seems to me to be a dumb question about PDF generation. Is there such a thing as generating a PDF not via Word? - (Whatever that means.) My client seems to think there is a way. But since my client asked, I have to ask you all...
    I tried out the quick way of simply clicking on the PDF icon, and seeing what happens. So RH generated for me a PDF, without asking me for any more info. The Output logger showed clearly that RH was first creating a *Word file*. And sure enough when I looked in its target folder I saw there was also a *Word doc* there, completed a minute earlier. A definite sign, I think, that RH first created the Word doc and then from it created the PDF. (Btw, I don't know where RH got the TOC from for this PDF generation - it seems like a ghost of the TOC I used months ago.)
    Then I tried using the Generate wizard from the Single Source Layouts pod. One of the stages of this wizard prompts you to select a template, including any *Word templates* you have fed RH in the past. Again a good sign, IMO, that the initial process for making a PDF is the same as for making a Word doc.
    Over to you all.
    TIA
    avraham

    RH has to create a Word document but if you deselect the Word check box, it is not saved. What you saw was probably an old document. Delete it and publish just a PDF and you should not be able to see the temporary Word document that is created.
    In the wizard you don't have to select a Word template, that is just one of the options.
    The content of the print layout is not related to your TOC. It takes the content of a TOC when you first create the print layout but then the two are standalone. You might not want the print layout to be the same as the TOC. If you do, use the arrows to clear the content and then replace it with the current TOC.
    This is covered in Printed Documents on my site.

  • DataMerge to a pdf not in memory InDesign(cc2014) JavaScript

    I am having an issue with the file merging in ram not to a pdf document.
    When I am merging 20 thousand records having it merge in ram not only takes for ever it some times runs out of ram.
    any ideas? This is my Current code.
                  var jobNumber = prompt("what is your job number");
                 // Setting the Folder to get the indesign and the Data File file from.
                var myTemplateFolder = Folder("~/Documents/hotfolder/template/");
                var myDataFolder = Folder ("~/Documents/hotfolder/data/");
                // Retrieving the Indesign FIle
                var myTemplates = myTemplateFolder.getFiles("*.indd");
                var myDataSet = myDataFolder.getFiles("*.csv");
                //Open the Template and Declare its value of myDocument
                var myDocument = app.open(File( myTemplates ));
                // Turning on the BackGround Layer For Proofing
                var myLayer = app.documents.item(0).layers.item("Background");
                myLayer.visible = false ;
                //Setting the data source to be merged
                myDocument.dataMergeProperties.selectDataSource(File(myDataSet));
                // Merging the Records and creating the overset text document to make sure nothing is wrong with the file.
                myDocument.dataMergeProperties.mergeRecords(File("~/Documents/hotfolder/output/"+ jobNumber+"-composedoverset.txt"));
                //close the unmerged document.
                myDocument.close(SaveOptions.no);
                //Exporting the merged document as composed file
                app.activeDocument.exportFile(ExportFormat.pdfType, File("~/Documents/hotfolder/output/"+ jobNumber+"-composed.pdf"),false,"bandwPrinting");
                //Closing the merged document.
                app.activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.no);
                alert("Complete");

    I am sorry I did not ask the question properly.
    The attached code does work on my system The template has the place holders already set. (We use this template already to produce about 100 thousand records a day with another system)
    the .csv is routed through another routine before it is put in that folder to get rid of any bad characters. It also maps the headers to the placeholders.
    The output folder is on my system
    the preset is a preset on my system.
    What I am asking is how do I produce Directly to a pdf not into memory.
    When I try to produce 25 -35 thousand records it fills the memory and gets stuck.
    Several plugins do not have this problem I am relatively certain that they are not merging directly into InDesign but into a pdf.

  • Create fillable form with changing source document

    I want to create a fillable, saveable form in which the source document changes.  Hope I am using the correct verbiage.  Source document meaning the Word document that I convert to a .pdf, which I then use to create the fillable form.  This source document has client/description information that consistently changes.  Is there any way to easily create the fillable form, without having to insert/size/change the text boxes each time (iow, create a whole new form each time)?  I am using Acrobat X.
    Thanks,
    Julie

    If you can have a copy of the original form, create a PDF of the changed form and create a new PDF with a name different that the original form. This will be content layer of the document and not have the form field layer or form fields. You can then open the original PDF form and use the "Document => Replace pages..." to replace the underlying content of the original form while retaining the form field layer. You can now save the revised form. You may need to relocate form form fields due to changes in the form.

  • Style source document error when exporting to EPUB

    Hey everyone,
    I have searched for this error with no luck, so I am hopeful someone here can help. I'm trying to export a book from CS5.5 to EPUB, but I keept getting this error: "Style source document in book is missing." This is not true, the style source document is most definitely not missing. I have tried restarting numerous times and changing the style source document to another chapter, but nothing works.
    If it makes a difference, this book was built in CS3 and converted to 5.5.
    Thanks for any help!
    Peyton

    If you are able to export as sections it's almost certainly not actually a problem with the image, but a problem of not enough system resources to finish the job. This is not uncommon with large complex PDF exports.
    Try rebooting, then immediately open ID and try the export again first thing. If it works, great. If  not, you can combine your sections into a single PDF in Acrobat Pro.

  • A PDF file was filed in documents. when trying to move this file to trash i got response : operation can't be completed because the itempdf is in usen

    A PDF file was filed in DOCUMENTS, when trying to move this PDF file to trash I got the response: "Operation can't be completed because the item ..... is in use".
    How do I get this document deleted from the system?

    The suggestion to move items from documetns to desktop and then moving to trash is the one that worked.
    I have now one other question and that is that during my strugle with the original problem I called with Apple helpline and there they suggested to move the application "Preview" to trash and then the  issue would be solved. I did so but clearly the issue was not solved.
    Bottom line is that with your solution I got rid of the PDF files, but I still need to reinstall the Preview application. Do you have suggestions how to do that??

    I am not sure why where the PDF was created would make a difference but couldnt help but notice that was the difference between the PDF files that work and the ones that give that message. I can view the PDFs on a windows computer just fine and never had issues untill adobe, it seems to have messed up PDFs on my Mac and I am so frustrated with them. I have searched my computer for any remaining adobe files, deleted them and restarted my computer but I am still getting this message.

    Uninstall Adobe Reader's plug-in.
    Remove the following two files from  /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/:

    AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
    Open Safari Preferences > Extensions. Do you see AdobePDFViewer? If yes. disable.

  • Any way to modify an app to another sort of readable (not from ipod/ipad) document?

    i downloaded an app - it's a shopping guide i wrote - is there any way to change the file type so that i can view it as a pdf or any other sort of readable (not from ipod/ipad) document?

    No, that is not possible. If you wrote the app, though, then you have all the content. You'll need to take that content and assemble it into a document which you can then turn into a PDF. You might want to consider recasting your app as an iBook. With iBooks Author you can create interactive books as well as PDFs of the same content.
    Regards.

  • 'not a valid photoshop document' when I try and overlay an image on photoshop.. help!!!

    I downloaded jpeg files from google drive. As far as I know they are not corrupted and when I used them on the newest version of photoshop they worked. What I am trying to do is place images next to one another. Everytime I try and do this a notice comes up saying 'it is not a valid photoshop document'. I have tried changing the jpg to photoshop format pdf and also opening them as photoshop files - I dont know what else I can do and my photography deadline is tomorrow for my final edits!
    PLEASE HELP

    Without having access to the file that you are working with I would not know how to help. There can be many factors involved that are giving you grief. Are you on PC or Mac? There are many here that are more savvy with the nuances and problematic issues with Ps than I. If you wish to send me one of the files I can give it a try on my setup and see what happens- [email protected]
