PDF öffnet im IE anstatt im Reader

Hallo,

I am in the process of expanding a database of chemistry journal articles.  These materials are ideally acquired in two formats when both are available-- PDF and HTML.  To oversimplify, PDFs are for the user to read, and derivatives of the HTML versions are for the computer to read.  Both formats are, of course, readily recognized and indexed by Spotlight.  Journal articles have two essential components with regards to a database:  the topical content of the article itself, and the cited references to other scientific literature.  While a PDF merely lists these references, the HTML version has, in addition, links to the cited items.  Each link URL contains the digital object identifier (doi) for the item it points to. A doi is a unique string that points to one and only one object, and can be quite useful if rendered in a manner that enables indexing by Spotlight.  Embedded URL's are, of course, ignored by Spotlight.  As a result, HTML-formatted articles must be processed so that URL's are openly displayed as readable text before Spotlight will recognize them.  Conversion to DOC format using MS Word, followed by conversion to RTF using Text Edit accomplishes this, but is quite labor intensive.
In the last few months, I have added about 3,500 articles to this collection, which means that any procedure for rendering URL's must be automated and able to process large batches of documents with minimal user oversight.  This procedure needs to generate a separate file for each HTML document processed. Trials using Automator's "Get Specified Finder Items" and "Get Selected Finder Items", as well as "Ask For Finder Items"  (along with "Get URLs From Web Pages") give unsatisfactory results.  When provided with multiple input documents, these three commands generate output in which the URLs from multiple input items are merged into a single block, which yields a single file using "Create New Word Document" as the subsequent step.  A one-to-one, input file to output file result can be obtained by processing one file at a time, but this requires manual selection of each item and one-at-a-time processing. What I need is a command that accepts multiple input documents, but processes them one at a time, generating a separate output for each file processed.  Is there a way for Automator to do this?

    Hi,
With the project all done, i'm preparing for the presentation. Managed to get my hands on a HD beamer for the night (Epason TW2000) and planning to do the presentation in HD.
That of course managed to bring up some problems. I posted a thread which i'll repost here . Sorry for the repost, i normally do not intend to do this, but since this thread is actually about the same thing, i'd like to ask the same question to you. The end version is in AfterEffects, but that actually doesn't alter the question. It's about export:
"I want to export my AE project of approx 30 min containing several HD files to a Blu Ray disc. The end goal is to project the video in HD quality using the Epson  EMP-TW2000 projector. This projector is HD compatible.
To project the video I need to connect the beamer to a computer capable of playing a heavy HD file (1), OR burn the project to a BRD (2) and play it using a BRplayer.
I prefer option 2, so my question is: which would be the preferred export preset?
    Project specs:
                        - 1920x1080 sq pix  (16:9)
                        - 25 fps
                        - my imported video files (Prem.Pro sequences) are also 25 fps and are Progressive (!)
To export to a BRD compatible format, do i not encounter a big problem: my projectfiles are 25 fps and progressive, and I believe that the only Bluray preset dispaying 1920x1080 with 25 fps requests an INTERLACED video  (I viewed the presets found on this forum, this thread)... There is also a Progr. format, BUT then you need 30 fps (29,...).
So, is there one dimension that can be changed without changing the content of the video, and if yes which one (either the interlacing or the fps).
I'm not very familiar with the whole Blu-ray thing, I hope that someone can help me out."
    Please give it a look.
    Thanks,
    Jef

  • Why do I have to keep saving my PDFs as enabled for commenting in Reader?

As part of my review process, I create a PDF, enable it for commenting in Reader, send it to reviewers, receive comments back from them, reply to the review comments, and send it back to the reviewers so that they can see the replies and make further comments.
Since I upgraded from Acrobat 9 to Acrobat 11, I'm finding that if I add any replies or comments of my own, I have to enable the PDF for commenting again before I send it back to my reviewers. Otherwise, the reviewers get a message that says, “This document enabled extended features in Adobe Reader. This document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no longer available.” In Acrobat 9, I only had to enable it for commenting once, at the very beginning of the review process. It's really a pain to have to do this every time, and I often forget, since I didn't have to do this every time with previous versions of Acrobat. Is there any way to get around this?
I also cannot find a way to create a new action that represents the menu path:
In Acrobat 11, File > Save as Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Commenting & Measuring.
If there was some way to create an action for this, it wouldn't be so bad.

It's often hard to determine the cause of the usage rights no longer valid. It happens when some sort of change is made other than those that are allowed. It can be due to font problems and other problems that Acrobat attempts to automatically fix.
Adobe specifically prevent you from automating the process of extending documents with Acrobat.

  • No PDF Thumbnails in Windows 7 RTM Reader 9.1.3

My Thumbnails have disappeared. PDF documents that previously had thumbnails are gone. Just the plain old Adobe icon now. I have tried every setting I can think of and deleted all the thumb files and icon caches. One minute I had 'em and the next they were gone after reboot. I have reinstalled Reader 3 times.
I am sure something got overwritten, but I sure can't find it. Basically the machine has Office 2007 and Quicken and some lesser apps. installed so far. All the Windows settings are still set to show Thumbnails. All JPGs still show thumbs. The same PDF files show perfect thumbs on my Vista machine..... I have no idea what I did or what 7 is doing. I have also tried changing color depth and resolution and rebooting.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!!!
    Charlie

Not a reasonable answer to the issue. Sounds like something I'd get from Dell in the old days. The fact is thumbnails work for everything else EXCEPT PDF's. It is a reader issue regardless of what code is causing the problem.
A system restore? I could also reformat and re-install. Neither is the answer. I am interested in figuring out what is preventing thumbnails from displaying.
This problem exists on both x86 and x64 installs and is not unique to my systems.
    Thanks anyway.

How do I save a pdf from Gmail to my adobe reader?
    how can i solve this?

    fats vee,
Please take a look at my replies and screenshots in the following forum post to transfer a PDF email attachment from the Gmail app for iOS to Adobe Reader for iOS.
How do I save a PDF attachment from Gmail to Adobe reader?
As I mentioned in the forum post, it requires many extra steps to transfer a PDF document from the Gmail app.  This is because the Gmail app for iOS does not support "Open In..." as many other iOS apps do.
Please let us know if you have additional questions.

That hardware button can actually be toggled to work either as a mute button, or a lock orientation button. This can be edited at the settings screen.

  • Can I create a PDF that includes photos using Adobe Reader?

Is it possible to create a PDF document that includes photographs using only Adobe Reader?
Or do you have to pay yet more for Acrobat?

Rachel, although Word is not specifically designed for the job you describe, it can be used for it. Once you have completed your document, you can export it to a PDF file directly from Word (File > Save as > PDF). I would suggest trying first with a single page containing text and photographs like those you'll be eventually using. If results are not as good as you would like, you can explore other methods, such as using a proper design program to produce your originals. And, whatever method you use, don't forget to keep the original files along with your PDFs, and backup copies of both.

  • Reader XI & IE10 - how to force PDF's to be viewed in READER?

I have NO Adobe add-on installed in IE10.  Updgraded from Reader 8.1 to Reader XI.  Under Reader 8.1 there was an option in settings to force PDF's to be opened in READER instead of IE.  Cannot find that option.  Went to Settings / Manage-Add-ons to disable Adobe PDF there, but it's not installed, so can't disable it.
Any ideas on how to force PDF's to be opened in READER instead of IE10?
    Thanks!

I do not quite understand your initial comment.  You write that you do not have the Adobe Reader add-on installed on IE10, yet PDFs open in IE?
See this article how to enable viewing PDFs in a browser; you will have to do it the other way around to see the opposite effect: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-browser-acrobat-xi.html

  • Open all PDF using Preview instead of Adobe Reader

I recently install Adobe Reader and now all files are opening with Adobe Reader instead of Preview. I want to change the default to Preview for all PDF files. I did choose open with option key down... so that I can select open with... and then chose the option "always open with...". However this only changes the default application for the single file I chose and not to ALL PDF files. When I try to open any random PDF file, it defaults to Adobe Reader, even AFTER I selected "always open with... Preview" on a difference file. Any ideas on how I can make sure the Preview opens for ALL PDF files as default?
    Thanks,

Have you made the change in the get info window? Control click on a PDF and choose get info. Scroll down to change all and click on that:

Once printed how do you fold a pdf so that pages are in reading order?

I think I'm not following you. In my opinion, PDFs can't be folded; and whether pages are in reading order or not cannot be changed by the free Reader.

  • Using 10.6.8, internet pdf documents not opening using Adobe Reader; how is this corrected?

Using 10.6.8, internet pdf documents not opening using Adobe Reader; how is this corrected?  I've tried changing "sharing and permissions" to "read and write" as suggested on other help sites, but this did not correct the problem.

I had the same problem---contacted Adobe and their service rep helped me by
    A.   Deleting  Adobe Reader from my iMac's Applications in Finder
    B.   Downloading Google Chrome browser and then
    C.   Downloading the latest Adobe Reader for Mac 10.6.8 in Google Chrome--it works
Adobe acknowledges problem with the latest Snow Leopard update 10.6.8 and with this work around, I can open PDF's using the Google Chrome Browser.
Is this the ideal solution---NO.  Safari is my main browser. I now have to use a separate browser for PDF's.
Am I happy to be able to open PDF's---YES
You can't believe the time I spent to solve this problem before calling Adobe for help. My Apple Care policy expired a month ago . As I use Photoshop Elements, I was not charged by Adobe for their help on the telephone.

    Hi aho,
You would need either Acrobat (link to free 30 day trial) or our PDF Pack subscription service to perform that task.

  • Merge two PDF files into one with Adobe Reader

Does anyone know how to merge two PDF files into one with Adobe Reader. Is it even possible?
    Thanks

If you've got a Mac and OSX you can do this in Preview.  Make sure you can see the sidebar with the first PDF opened, and then drag the second PDF to the bottom of the last page in the sidebar.  Also you can reduce the size of your saved file by selecting (or making) a Quartz filter to 'reduce file size'
    Cheers
