PDF - Page Number Bug

I put a PDF document into Books folder of iTunes and synced to both my iPhone 4 and my iPad. I first opened in iPhone - no problem, although the text was small.
iBooks on the iPad crashed everytime I tried to open the PDF. I broke the PDF into sections and learned that the Introduction section was what was causing the crash. The pages were numbered in the Introduction with roman numerals - eg i to xx. When I re-formated the PDF by printing to PDF the page numbering changed to arabic er 1-20 and displayed fine in iBooks.

    Does Adobe Reader have a search window phrase rollover, yellow-highlighted pop up page number bug displaying the wrong page in some circumstances?
    If Yes, how do I report that bug to get Adobe to fix it?
    Viewing the same PDF:
    MacPreview does not have the problem described below,
    Adobe Reader does have the problem.
    Adobe Reader, search phrase rollover, pops up a page number that is yellow-highlighted, e.g., p# 29, and is wrong, whereas the page number for the thumb and PDF are both the same and are correct.
    My PDF has been set on Acrobat Pro to properly paginate the first eight pages in lowercase Roman numerals (i, ii, iii, iv, v, vi, vii, viii) followed by Arabic numerals (1, 2, etc.). My PDF uses an AcrobatPro special setting to properly handle this pagination scheme. The search phrase rollover pops up a yellow-highlighted page number that wrongly adds 8 pages to the page number for the thumb and for the PDF page. Suspiciously, we have 8 pages with lowercase Roman numbers. Remember, viewing the same PDF, MacPreview works perfectly, producing identical and correct page numbers for the phrase, thumb, and PDF.

    the method u followed is fine as need a page number staring from a specify value which u input.
    @section is only for resetting page number to 1 for every group and for that pdf and ppt will be fine but only for rtf u need to use that ( pressing F9).
    u can use @section and initial page number combined but they give u same output as get now. rtf output wont support it will only reset 1 every time
    What ever u do rtf output wont support initial page number code ..........
    i mentioned that F9 work around to mention that it is the only work around u have upto now to control rtf output with regards to page number.
    Guru's correct me if i am wrong. wait for a day or two if some one from guru's confirm it .
    If u need real confirmation raise an SR oracle will let u know .

  • Return PDF page number from the name of the link in InDesign CS4 JS

    Hi, I need to return pdf page number of the linked file in InDesign.Here what I have so far, but my FilePath comes back undefined, and I am not sure if pageNmuber line would work:
        var myArtBack = app.activeDocument.pages[1].rectangles[0].graphics[0];
        var myArtBackName = myArtBack.itemLink.name;
        var myBackFilePath = myArtBackName.filePath;
        var myPageNumber  = myBackFilePath.PDFAttribute.pageNumber;
    Your help is highly appreciated.
    Yulia

    Your first problem is:
    var myBackFilePath = myArtBackName.filePath;
    That should be:
    var myBackFilePath = myArtBack.itemLink.filePath;
    What you should have done is something like:
    var myLink = myArtBack.itemLink;
    var myPageNumber = myLink.parent.pdfAttributes.pageNumber;
    Maybe you need the file path for some other purpose, but that's not the route to information about the PDF graphic (the parent of the link) which has the pdfAttributes property -- property names always start with a lowercase letter.

  • Pl/pdf page number

    Hi,
    Does anyone know how to display page number (1 of 3, 2 of 3, ...) in the footer of each page in a PL/PDF report? The report contains both fixed-position data and a table with x number of rows fetched from a table.
    Also, how do I write HTML tags in the report? I tried some tags but it displayed them as plain text.
    Thanks.
    Andy

    Pl/Pdf would have to make multiple passes through your report to determine the total # of pages wouldn't it? To get the 1 of X pages, it would need to know at the START of your report how many pages there are..
    Thank you,

  • Inconsistent PDF Page Number keyframe behavior?

    I'm doing some character animation and found that key-framed multi-page PDFs could be really useful. For example, the mouth of my character is made of a multi-page PDF; each page of the file has a different facial expression on it. I can keyframe this asset to easily change from one expression to the other.
    I seem to find that the more complex my sequence gets, the less reliable the page changes become.
    Anybody else have experience with this or any words of wisdom or work-arounds?
    Thanks!

    Your PDF is a collection of "frames". It's no different than an image sequence or a simple "movie" consisting of one frame per image. You have the option of selecting the Page Number of a PDF file, but the other two options allow you to use either an Emitter or a Replicator to select which frame to display... so there are other ways of handling your "cell animation" needs.
    However, what I'm suggesting is actually an old "practice"/"trick" from older versions of Motion which is to render out a portion of the animation and bring the animation, already "baked", back into the project. Earlier versions of Motion actually had that option in the Export dialog (to automatically insert the render file back into the project) as a way of easing resource demands on the application that would slow it down excessively.
    So for your project, keyframe/animate the PDF and for simplicity, make sure it's exactly on the canvas where it would be with all the other content, then: *turn off* all the other content  (simply option click on the PDF checkbox in the layers list) and Export (ProRes 4444 - with Alpha). Bring the exported file back into your project and turn off the PDF layer (you can leave it in the project if you have to make modifications later on - then re-export - etc..). The pre-baked animation should always play perfectly regardless of what other layer animations are doing. And, by turning off all the other layers when exporting, you should be cutting off any interference to your object that they would be causing.

  • Include PDF page number in barcode.

    Hello,
    I am new to adobe acrobat XI pro and developing forms and have a question about barcode generation.
    I have a task to create a barcode using the 3 of 9 format on a multi page document. The barcode is made up some information describing the form and the page number. for Example, on page 1 the barcode is made up of xxx001 where xxx = form information and 001 is page 1. Page 2 barcode is xxx002, page 3 is xxx003 and so on. I understand to get the form information of xxx I would reference another field on the form, but i am not sure how to reference the page number and then combine the form information and page number into a usuable entity.  I think that i will need to use the custom calculation script section of the value tab of the barcode properties, but I am not really sure.  thanks

    A field has a "page" property. If there is only one instance of the field, the page property will be a number equal to the page number (0-based) on which it is placed, so it's custom calculation script could be:
    // Custom calculation script
    event.value = "Some data goes here" + util.printf("%03d", event.target.page + 1);
    field.page property documentation: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.713.html

  • Accessing Specific PDF page in a hyperlink within CHM

    I have built a CHM in RoboHelp 9 and am trying to make a hyperlink that will take the reader directly to an included PDF page number, that starts a section in this PDF of about 3 pages.

    Having multiple images in a tiff file is probably not the best practice. THe image object meta data might not make much sense (width, height, format...).
    But....
    For 8.1.7, there is no way to do it from PL/SQL. You could do it outside the database in a servlet.
    For 9i, there is an undocumented interface to allow for access to tiff images other than the first image that is being considered for documentation with 10i.

  • Page Number Error when export to PDF

    I am getting an error on page numbers for a book file when I export to PDF. The page numbers are set in the master pages and when I export each chapter individually the page number show fine. When I export the entire book, then some of the page numbers repeat. The pages are the right pages, but the numbers change incorrectly. For instance, the sequence goes, 58, 59, 58, 61 and 72, 73, 72, 73, 76.
    I've updated to the latest InDesign (7.5.2) and have tried multiple PDF export options (High Print, Press, PDF/X, etc) and nothing fixes it.
    Any suggestions?
    thanks

    This is a known (and fairly catastrophic) problem in CS5.5.
    Some people have found exporting the individual INDD files to IDML, resaving them as INDD files (don't overwrite your originals!! Make a backup first!), and recreating the book works...for a while.
    You could revert to CS5.0 if you have a license for it.
    CS6 is on the horizon and should fix this bug.
    Hopefully there'll be a CS5.5 maintenance update to do so as well.
    Sorry I don't have a better suggestion.

  • Master Page page number showing up in a different location in exported PDF

    Hi everyone,
    I have been racking my brain trying to figure out what InDesign is thinking, but I can't seem to find a solution.
    I have an eight-page document with facing master pages. I put a page number on the left page and the right page of the spread in the footer area. When I export the document to PDF, one of the page numbers "moves" from where I placed it up and to the left, near the middle of the spread.
    This is driving me nuts. I have tried to use different export settings. I have tried re-building the master page and creating new text frames with the page numbers. The page number still moves. And it is only Page 3. The rest of the page numbers are in the correct locations.
    Here is a screen grab of what I see in InDesign:
    (Note my red arrow pointing out the location of the page number. That text frame is a "Current Page Number" marker on the master page.)
    Here is a screen grab of the resulting exported PDF:
    If anyone else has overcome a similar problem or if you know why InDesign is behaving this way, please help. Thanks!

    @Luke,
    ID embeds fonts automatically during export as long as they are not restricted. There's no way to turn it off, so if the font is not embedding it is because it is restricted and cannot be embedded without viloating the font license, which ID will not do.
    @Andy,
    I was hoping this might be one of the bugs that got fixed, but apparently not. An export to .idml and working with that might fix it, might not. See Remove minor corruption by exporting

  • Reseting page number in Word RTF template for BI Publisher PDF generation

    Hi!
    Apex 4.0.2, Oracle 10.2.0.4, BIP 10.2
    Bills are created based on Word RTF file with BI Publisher. Reszulting file is one big PDF file, which has many pages.
    Word RTF template is grouped on BILLS.ID field with page break option. So one BILLS.ID may have one or many pages (according data).
    How to create RTF template (for PDF BI Publisher generation) with reseting page numbers when grouping value change.
    Page numbers are in footer in format
    curr_group_page/total_group_pages
    where:
    curr_group_page is current page number in group (defined with BILLS.ID field),
    total_group_pages is total page number of pages in group (defined with BILLS.ID field).
    I need to reset numbering whenever BILLS.ID (group) change.
    Example:
    ID=1 (4 pages)
    1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4
    ID=2 (1 pages)
    1/1
    ID=3 (2 pages)
    1/2, 2/2
    ID=4 (3 pages)
    1/3, 2/3, 3/3
    etc.
    How to achieve that kind of numbering?
    Any help appreciated.

    Simple question.. Does your posting deal with an APEX issue or a BI Publisher issue? The posting you have deals with the RTF add-on for Word that builds report layouts for BI Publisher. I suggested in my response that you move it to a more relevant forum..
    If you feel that me alerting you to the fact your are VIOLATING forum policy is an issue, please feel free to ask others their view.. (posting to a 3 year old closed thread, creating MULTIPLE threads for a single issue..) You do NOT seem to get the idea that posting this in the Bi Publisher support forum would probably get you a BETTER response than here.. Asking pl/sql questions here will also get people to refer your questions to the PL/Sql Support forum..
    Also, here is a POSSIBLE answer from the BI Publisher Forum: http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=594805
    This Is The APEX SUPPORT forum, we deal with SUPPORT questions on APEX (Application Express)..

    You know, I used to think that it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, wouldn't it be much worse if life were fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them? So, now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe.

  • How to get page number from the PDF using Javascript

    Hi,
    We are having list of Single page PDF. The pdf are named in the order,
    ISBN_Author_01.PDF  (with real page number as i)
    ISBN_Author_02.PDF  (with real page number as ii)
    ISBN_Author_03.PDF  (with real page number as iii)
    ISBN_Author_04.PDF  (with real page number as 1)
    ISBN_Author_05.PDF  (with real page number as 2)
    ISBN_Author_06.PDF  (with real page number as 3)
    ISBN_Author_nn.PDF  (with real page number as 500)
    Here each pdf has a page number and in sequential order.
    The task is to check whether all the pdfs are in sequential order (i.e i, ii, iii, 1, 2, 3). If any page is missing, the script should throw an error report.
    To do this task, I am writing a Javascript to get the real page number from the PDF.
    Can anybody help me how to get the page number from the PDF using Javascript.
    Thanks,
    Gopal

    The "real" page number within a PDF is the count of the physical page starting at 0, zero.
    pageNum numPages
    The number printed on each page is the page label.
    setPageLabels  getPageLabel
    You will have to open each PDF and your script would need to know the page label for that file. I would expect you would need to build a 2 dimensional  array of the file names and the page label for the page within that array.

  • How to open-up a pdf file to a particular page via java? (file and page number from another program)

    I have created an Access 2003 Form. Data is entered. The data can be viewed once entered in the same form format, with one addition. The addition is a link to another program where we store files. The files stored are pdf documents. Each document is a scanned file (500+ pages). The link can open-up the pdf file. I want the link to open-up the pdf file to a particular page. I will supply the page number from the database.
    I am aware of Adobe Acrobat 7.0 PDF Open Parameters using a URL that specifies the file to be opened plus actions to be performed once the file is openend (i.e. http://example.org/doc.pdf#page=3). However, the 3rd party program transfers a file from a server to the client via java. The file does not go via a web browser. The java code transfer the file directly from the file server to the the client.
    Any idea how to accomplish the task of viewing a particular page with the process flow described?
    I am using Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional.

    So you are reading this file in a standalone version of Acrobat? If so then use the PDF Open Parameters /a option via the command line.
    Sabian
    Example:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat>Acrobat.exe /A "zoom=1000=OpenActions" "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat\SimpleSubmit.pdf"
    Where:
    Path to Acrobat: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat>Acrobat.exe
    Note: The example starts in the Acrobat application directory
    Switch: /A
    Parameter Syntax: "zoom=1000=OpenActions"
    Path to file: "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat\SimpleSubmit.pdf"
    Note: The quotes are very important for the syntax to work appropriately.

  • When creating a comment summary, I want to end up with a pdf of comments only. In addition, I do not want author, date, time, or page number to show in my comments summary. How can I do this?

    When creating a comment summary, I want to end up with a pdf of comments only. In addition, I do not want author, date, time, or page number to show in my comments summary. How can I do this? I do a lot of reading, and when I summarize my comments, I like to save these comments in a larger document I compile over time. I typically create a comment summary, export it to a text editor and find myself having to delete author, date, time, page number, and anything else that is not the raw and net comment. It would save me some good time if someone showed me how to do this. The reason I do not want any additional information is because it simply adds stuff I do not need in my compilation of summaries for large amounts of papers over time.

    What you're describing can't be achieved using the built-in comments summary function of Acrobat, but it can certainly be done if a custom-made script it used to generate the summary because then you're in full control of what's included in it and what's not.
