People can break into my computer by restating it

i logged out of my mac and at the bottom of the login screen it says sleep, restart, and shut down. i accedentaly selected restart. the computer restarted like normal except when it was done it opened up my user! it didnt ask for my password or anything. This makes it too easy to break into a computer. i was wondering if this happens on all computers and if there is a way to make the login screen come up after a restart or ask for a password.
any help is appreciated!

Open the Security & Privacy or Users & Groups pane of System Preferences and turn off automatic login.

  • How many people can log into a G5 at the same time.

    Thanks in Advance.
I am using a G5 as a server with external drives attached. I get a message from time to time that says "too many users are logged in at once", is there a limit to how many people can log into a G5 at once ?
All are on different users, and it's a total gigabit network.

Ten, unless you're using a version of Mac OS X Server which has no limit.

I have a slow startup or login, with numerious spinning wheels. Sometimes after a long ti,e I can sign into the computer and sometimes it just fails to startup or login. I have a MacBookPro OS X 10.7.5 from 2011. It became more serious recently as I think I might have let my battery run out I also tried to download the operating system to reinstall it but it allways stops around 1.4 GB out of 1.7 then the whell starts again.

Keep the MBP attached to the power adapter.
First try SMC and PRAM resets:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
Then try to boot the MBP in recovery (OPTION key down) and select the recover partition.  Select Disk Utility>First Aid and verify and repair the HDD.

  • Macbook pro retina display doesn't work occasionally. Random restarts. I can remote into the computer when display isn't working correctly

I have some issue with my 2012 Macbook Pro Retina. The screen intermittently decides to just not work. Sometimes on startup i hear the start up noise but the screen doesn't turn on. I am able to remote into the computer when the screen doesn't work. I can't seem to find any rhyme or reason as to when it works and when it doesn't. I've reset the PRAM and SMC sometimes that will bring the screen back sometimes not.
    Any ideas?

You can try the Apple Hardware test, not definitive by any means, especially intermittent problems, but it is a start.

  • [SOLVED] Even when locked, people can still use my computer

    Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my current setup. When X starts, it loads a bunch of programs and scripts and it takes a little while. This is why I want to be auto-logged in so that I do not have to wait extra time after logging in. The way I do this is auto-log into tty1, automatically start X and run xscreensaver to lock the screen. In the background all of my programs and scripts run as they should be.
Then I still have to type my password to be able to use my laptop.
The problem is that someone could type Ctrl+Alt+F1 when confronted to the locked screen. Then, in tty1, one can Ctrl+C startx and thus have access to a prompt.
I want to avoid that. I don't want to be logged out automatically when X exits.
In my opinion, there are two ways to do that. Either I find a way to tell xscreensaver or slock or whatever to capture Ctrl+Alt+<key> combinations or I totally remove the possibility to switch to tty1.
Do you know how to do one or the other ? Do you have a better idea of how to deal with this issue ?
    Thank you for your time,
    yms

    Lets do some threat modeling.
Hi-Tech Threat: Experienced Linux user looking to steal your data, if they get to any tty then win. Now the possibility your going to meet this threat? Very low. Unless you hang around a bunch of blackhat hackers.
Mid-Tech Threat: Normal end user, may have a little Linux experienced but mainly uses Windows, probably a power user in Windows. Probability you meet this threat is also low. This threat wouldnt necessarily know how to switch to vc1 and then probably not know how to startx or use a console.
Low-Tech Threat: Normal Windows user. You are most likely to have this kind of person using your computer. They wouldnt know shit about how to get to vc1 and startx and if they managed to get to vc1 they are still fucked because they cant figure out how to use anything.
So unless you hang around alot of potential Hi-Tech and Mid-Tech threats you really dont have to worry.
p.s. You have more to worry about if someone can ssh into your machine or exploit some service your running.

  • How do I set up a conference call that people can call into via phone?

Hi, I need to do the following things:
find some kind of provider that will let me register a toll free number to use with Connect
set up this provider in my Connect account
make a meeting where people can call the toll free number to join the conference
Could someone walk me through this step by step, like you would to a 2nd grader who was trying to set all of this up for the first time? Thank you.

    1. There are more providers of teleconferencing than is reasonable to list here. You can do some searching on the Internet and find some or you can start with those who fully integrate with Connect. Those that fully integrate with Connect are MeetingOne, Intercall, Arkadin and Premiere Global. You can use any SIP enable provider though (I'd be shocked if you could find one that isn't SIP to be honest).
    2. If dealing with one of the providers that fully integrate, they should be able to walk you through the process, it's pretty simple. If dealing with another provider, follow these instructions: https://www.connectusers.com/tutorials/2012/10/universal_voice_setup/index.php
    3. Browse to the desired folder in the Meeting library of Connect. Click the New Meeting button and go through the wizard for creating a new room. At the end of step 1 of the wizard you will have 3 audio options. Choose the middle option and select the desired phone bridge that is associated with your account. The meeting should then prompt you to connect to the audio bridge every time you start a meeting.

  • Domain Account Can RDP into Workgroup Computer

    Hi,<o:p></o:p>
Domain Accounts are able to RDP into WorkGroup computer which is not part of the domain. The workgroup machine is in AWS.<o:p></o:p>
This happens when the domain username and its password copied as local account in the workgroup computer.  <o:p></o:p>
    Domain Name: DName<o:p></o:p>
Name of the computer that is in the workgroup and not in the domain: system1<o:p></o:p>
    Domain Account: DName\User1 Pwd: abcd<o:p></o:p>
Local System Account: system1\User1 Pwd: abcd<o:p></o:p>
As long as the domain account and Local System Account have the same name and same password we are able to RPD using the domain account (DName\User1).
If the password is different, this does not work.<o:p></o:p>
After RDP, when i run the whoami command the user shows up as system1\User1.<o:p></o:p>
Any info on why this would happen and how to fix the same will be highly helpful.<o:p></o:p>
    Thanks in advance<o:p></o:p>

    Hi there,
It sounds like you're still signing in as the local user, not the domain user. Even though you're specifying a domain name, the computer isn't associated with that domain. It will try to log in using the local account name, which as you mentioned, if the
usernames and passwords the same, will work.
Check in computer management to see if you have local users listed in there.
Why not add the computer to the domain?

  • How i can login into my computer laptop, I forgot my password

Need to login into my laptop. I need help.

    Hi,
Using another PC, download the application on the following link and save it to your Downloads folder.
    PC Login Now
When the download has completed, open your Downloads folder and double-click the installer - this will result in another file appearing which is the disc image ( .ISO ) that you need to burn to a CD.
You will now need to use an application such as ImgBurn to burn this ISO correctly to a blank CD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.
When the disc has been created, shutdown the notebook you can't log-in on, tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button to access the Start-up Menu, insert the CD, select Boot Options ( usually f9 ), use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and hit enter - you may also have to 'Press any key' to boot from the CD if asked.
Follow the instructions on the guide Here to remove the password.

  • How do make sure only legitimate people an get into Conference using SX20

Customer Scenario-( I) :Customer has SX20 registered with CUCM9.x, there is no TP Server and no TMS for Scheduled conference.
I understand the concept of secure conferencing but this would be between the Endpoint and the Server-UC Application:
Secure conferencing is a way to use regular conferencing to ensure that the media for the conference is secure and cannot be compromised. There are various security levels that a conference can have, such as authenticated or encrypted.
With secure conferencing, the devices and conferencing resources can be authenticated to be trusted devices, and the conference media can then be encrypted so that every authenticated participant sends and receives encrypted media for that conference.
However, like to understand if it possible at User Level as well by prompting the user to enter login credentials for getting into the conf call.
Please Note, its not a scheduled conf call scenario. Its a typical Rendezvous conf example:
Query1: Is there some provision where in if some one dials into SX20 from internet (outside corporate network), to ensure only legitimate people can get into MultiSite conference (3+1), calling party (who dials into SX20) needs to enter credentials (UserName & Password) for Authentication?
Query2: If Query 1 is not possible using Rendezvous conf, then is it possible using Schedule conference with TP server and TMS or just by using TP Server ?
    Thanks & Regards
    Sumit Bhargava

If someone is dialling in to your SX20, then you have the option to answer the call or not (assuming you don't have it set to auto-answer) - it's then up to your user to accept someone in to, or reject someone from, their conference.

  • I have a question on how guest can still get into my computer when I deleted that.  Plus took files of mine, change names in my phone book.  Lets say they are messing with me.  It is driving me a bit nuts.  Help?

Hello, I have a question on "quest".?????     I have someone getting into my computer. I have shut of the quest... and yet yesterday all of my files were stolen.  My phone book, someone goes in and changes my phone number, and just changes so many things around.  It really has me upset.  Please... tell me how I can keep "guest"  out for good. I bought this computer for me.  Not guest, yet all I see here on the apple ways is how others can hook in, or get in to our computers.
Its upsetting, and  to see how you give step by step instruction to help them get into other people's computers is upsetting, yet not much on how to keep them out.  Tell me just how to keep them out for good.  I have a hacker, in mine.  Stealing things.  I have cleaned my computer out three times, in the last few weeks. I get all set up, to only three days later, even with a new list of passwords, their back again, stealing.  Please Help me  Morgiegal

Data rate DOES make a difference, but I'd say your real problem has more to do with the fact that you're working on a Powerbook. Motion's real time capabilities derive from the capability of the video card. Not the processor. Some cards do better than others, but laptops are not even recommended for running Motion.
To improve your workflow on a laptop will be limited, but there are a few things that you can try.
Make sure that thumbnails and previews are turned off.
Make sure that you are operating in Draft Mode.
Lower the display resolution to half, or quarter.
Don't expect to be getting real time playback. Treat it more like After Effects.
Compressing your clips into smaller Animations does help because it lowers the data rate, but you're still dealing with the animation codec which is a high data rate codec. Unfortunately, it sounds necessary in your case because you're dealing with alpha channels.
The data rate comes into play with your setup trying to play through your USB drive. USB drives are never recommended for editing or Motion work. Their throughput is not consistent enough for video work. a small FW drive would be better, though your real problem as I said is the Powerbook.
If you must work on the powerbook, then don't expect real-time playback. Instead, build your animation, step through it, and do RAM previews to view sections in real time.
    I hope this helps.

  • I have an iphone 4s that is having display issues. If I turn the phone on, it vibrates to acknowledge it successfully turned on but the screen stays solid black. I can plug the phone into my computer and itunes will recognize the phone as well.

I have an iphone 4s that is having display issues. If I turn the phone on, it vibrates to acknowledge it successfully turned on but the screen stays solid black. I can plug the phone into my computer and itunes will recognize the phone as well. However, itunes can not do anything with the phone because the phone is locked and I can not unlock the phone because the screen is black.
    >CURVEBALL!!!<
The screen does work though! Through trial and error along side a little troubleshooting, I was able to figure out that the screen will cut on after the phone dies completely. The phone has to die completely with no battery power left. Then if I plug the phone into a charge and wait a while for it to charge, the phone will turn on like nothing was ever even wrong with it. I charge the phone up to like 30% and turn it off then bam the phone turns on but the screen is solid black again.
I am currently in the process of waiting for the phone to die and when I turn the phone back on I am going to completely remove the auto-lock and lock code off of the phone for the time being.
    Any other suggestions? Please help!

Sounds like the device was dropped at some point and damaged as a result.
Take it to Apple for evaluation and a replacement.

  • HT1719 My itunes doesn't list "devices" above the playlist.  How can I sync the music I have purchased to my new ipod shuffle if it doesn't give me the option?  The shuffle is plugged into my computer, but nothing happens.  Help please!

My itunes account doesn't list "devices" above the playlist, as the syncing instructions give.  How can I sync the itunes I have purchased & downloaded to my computer, to my ipod shuffle?  The device is plugged into my computer, but nothing happens.  Shouldn't the computer recognize the device? It doesn't.  Please help!

As a test, shut down your computer and disconnect ALL USB devices.  Do this procedure to Reset the shuffle
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655
Start up computer with nothing connected, except for standard keyboard and mouse (if it's not a laptop).  Run iTunes.  Connect shuffle to a direct USB port on the computer.  See if there's any improvement,
If the shuffle is now recognized, there may have been a USB device conflict previously, or maybe all of the devices connected at the same time overloads the USB bus (for power).  An iPod charges its battery while connected, so it is a high-power USB device.

  • HT4061 Help! My iphone displays a cord to an itunes icon and I can't get it to go away...even when I plug it into my computer.  My computer is not recognizing it as a device.

Help!  My iPhone 4 displays a cord to an itunes icon and I can't get it to go away...even when plugged into my computer.  My computer doesn't recognize it as a device.  How can I just cancel all this and get my phone back to normal?

You might want to try performing a hard reset of your device; this will restart it and generally clear out any errors, it will not erase any data on your device.
Press and hold both the home button and the lock button (the button on the top right of the iPhone) for several seconds until the Apple logo appears.
