People Picker in Central Administration on change Site Collection Administrator page.
Hi there
We are coming to the end of our rope here.
We have a problem where the people picker is not working in Central Administration, particularly the change Site Collection administrator page. It simply does nothing but hang the page, it doesn't even give the red squigglies. The search dialogue boxes also
hangs. It works in other parts of Central Administration.
The environment has 2 domains with one way trust between them and the peoplepicker-searchadforest attribute is set.
Any suggestions?
Hi Chad,
Did this issue only happen to the "_admin/owners.aspx" page for your Central Administration site?
Please compare the peoplepicker-searchadforest attribute for your Central Administration web applicaiton with other working web application, see if they are the same ( iisreset may need for your Central Administration ).
Also check
ULS log for more related error message (also try others may like "developer dashboard","fiddler", ect.) recoreded when this issue occurs.
Thanks

Create new site collection but page cannot be dislayed
Hi all,
im pretty new when it comes to Sharepoint. So far installation was successfull and i can access central administration page.
I then changed Alternate access mapping from http://intra01/ (intra01 was probably addes, since computer has this name during setup) to http://intra
When i click the link,i only get this page cannot be displayed.
When i created two new site collections,it is shown as http://intra/sites/main (where main was the name i gave for first site collection).
When i click the link,i only get this page cannot be displayed.Same is for 2nd site i created.
When i change Alternate access mapping for Central administration, this also fails and gives me page cannot be displayed. If i instead enter intra01,then i can access central administration. This does not work for the 2 site collection i created.
What have i missed?
thanks!

let me split the issue
<<I then changed Alternate access mapping from http://intra01/ (intra01 was probably addes, since
computer has this name during setup) to http://intra>>
you are accessing your CA with http://intra1?
and next you are trying to access it using http://intra?
Did you installed CA on port 80?
Anyway, please check if you can resolve the new name used in AAM , intra.
If you can't please check your DNS configuration
Come back with results and details. thanks

Changing site collections logos across all site collections
HI All,
I need to change the logo across all site collections, which are around 300-400, so don't intend to do this manually.
My question is, will simply replacing the current logo in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE....
with the logo I want to change to, and naming it exactly the same as the current logo, not achieve this?
I have searched online and people run PS to achieve this, but in my head the above seems to be work, please correct me?
ThanksI completely agree with Alex and not suggest to touch/change root folder. Initially it might looks easy but it may create issue.
My option is to BRAND the sites. Master page branding is not a new concept and it mainly use for unanimous look and feel
Look at below links which will help you to explore about branding

Feature receiver, change site collection Search Center
Hi, in a Feature Event Receiver I am changing the Search Center of the site collection but it is not taking effect. Does anyone see any mistake or reason for that? thanks

Restricting People Picker of "Person or Group" column to Site Groups only
Hi,
I am working on SharePoint Online 2013 and I have created a column - DocOwner with "Person or Group" type in document library. In the site collection there are 4 groups lets say - A,B,C,D. When user creates a new item (document set), in newform.aspx,
I want to restrict the people picker of "Docowner" column to only Site groups, as currently it is showing all users who are there in SharePoint online.
I read this article - http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/sharepoint-server-help/site-column-types-and-options-HA010302196.aspx#_Toc277149829.........where they are saying that we can limit the people picker to site users only.
How this can be achieved using OOTB in SharePoint 2013 Online ?

People Picker & SPTimerservice
Hi and thank you for your time. I am was given the task of managing our sharepoint server. The server was not setup by myself but I was part of the install process. i am trying to correct a couple of issues in the "Review Problems and solutions"
section of the Central Administration" page.
Security
Issue 1. The server farm account should not be used for other services. SPTimerService (SPTimerV4)
Issue 2. Accounts used by application pools or service identities are in the local machine Administrators group. SPTimerService (SPTimerV4)
Issue 1, I know I can change service accounts on the farm credential management page, but the SPTimerService is not listed. where is this located and how can I change it.
Issue 2, When I move the user account out of the local admin group people picker breaks for all sites except for the Central administration site. An example would be on the CA site I click share and enter a name and it resolves to a AD user. and I can then
share the page. but on a site I click share and type the name I get the following message "Sorry, we're having trouble reaching the server." I have run iisreset /noforce and it still people picker doesnot work.
Thank you again for your time.
Paul1) Go into the Health Alert itself, click on Edit, then you should be able to disable the rule itself. You can then delete the alert from the main health alert page.
2) Then you need to leave the Farm Admin as Local Administrator as you need to be a Local Administrator to use the SharePoint Management Shell. Alternatively, set up a new Farm Admin with Shell Admin rights and run backups under that alternative account.
3) Can you post some ULS logs when you attempt to perform People searches with these accounts?

Hello Community
I reinstalled Sharepoint 2010 and SQL Server 2008R Evalution 64bit edition
on a member server running Windows 2008 on Windows Server Enterprise Service Pack 2.
Then I click the "Sharepoint 2010 Central Administration"
The first error I got was something to the effect that:
"The IIS Admin Service" service failed to start because a privilege that the service
requires does not exist in the service account configuration run Local Security Settings
MMC."
So I changed all of the service accounts to run under the domain admin account
except IIS Admin because it would only work under either the Local Account or Network
Service so I ran it under Network Service.
The error message I got after that was similar so I added "Create Global Policy"
to the group that the domain administrator account and services is in.
After that I didn't get the error message instead in the address bar I
saw http:\\<machine name>:port number\
But the page below was blank.
I went to Administrative Tools and discovered I have two IIS items:
#1-Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 Manager
#2-Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
#1 is blank: Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 Manager
#2 is "IIS 7": Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
so I double clicked Sharepoint Central Administration v4 and clicked the Security Tab
and added the group with the domain admin account and gave it full control. I also
enabled the following:
Anonymous authentication
AsP.Net Impersonation
Basic authentication
Digest authentication
Forms authentication
Windows authentication
Then I click the "Sharepoint 2010 Central Administration" again and
then I saw http:\\<machine name>:port number\login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2f in the address bar and
on the page I saw HTTP 404 Not Found.
I think Sharepoint 2010 uses the 14 hive but since I just installed it I don't know what pages
should appear so I am at a lost at this point.
What can I do to make the Central Administration page appear?
Thank you
ShabeautHello Daniel
Okay, actually I have tried to do this perfectly but after
failing initially I have probably been trying anything that came
to my mind. So let me explain my initial effort:
I used a domain admin account and logged on locally with that account to
member server to install Sharepoint 2010. Then like you say, I ran the
product configuration wizard to create the farm and Central Administration
site. A Central Administration site was created that I can see in IIS7.
I don't remember clicking "Basic Settings" or "Test Setting" but I do
remember clicking "Authentication" and I think I saw 5 or 6 types of authentication
but only 2 were enabled so I enable the other 3 or 4 and think they were:
Anonymous authentication
AsP.Net Impersonation
Basic authentication
Digest authentication
Forms authentication
Windows authentication
After all of this when I clicked "Central Administration" from
the "Start Menu" I would get prompted 3 times for a password and then just get
<machine name:port number> in the address bar with a blank screen.
After repeating all of these steps over and over again I decided to just
install WSS 3.0 and upgrade that working WSS 3.0 into Sharepoint 2010. But the
problem is I don't know how to perform that type of upgrade.
But now I want to answer your question because you seem to know where I went
wrong so I am going to reinstall Sharepoint 2010 up to the point where I can answer
your question of:
"If you select the web site and from the actions pain choose Basic Settings, then click Test settings, what is the result?"
and
"What authentication is enabled if you open Authentication under IIS in the central pane?"
My only questions are what is supposed to be the results after choosing
"Basic Settings" and "Test Setting" and which of the Authentications should be
enabled and after I set them to what you say, should I then get the Central
Administration page when I click "Central Administration" from the start menu?
Thank you

Document of Settings of Central Administration
Hello out there,
I have googled a while to find a way to document the configuration of the "Central Administration". But I couldn't find any result which fits to my requirement. Maybe somebody in this community can give me an hint how to realize it in
a easy way.
Please note I am not an educated SharePoint Admin. Just someone who want to orgaize smooth Operations of my SharePoint Service. :))))
My goal:
I want to have an Overview of all settings and options which are set within the "Central Administration". I want to use it as a kind of baseline (snapshot). So I can reference at anytime what configuration I had for "Central Administrtion"
at a certain time.Hi,
The SharePoint Central Administration page is defined by system, there is an overview for all settings within Central Adminsitration:
When you click the left quick launch, the right panel will show the associated content. I think it looks good, why not use the default view?
Anyway, if you want to create a custom overview for Central Administration, per my knowledge, your need to create a custom page, then based on your requirement to customize the page.
Thanks,
Wendy

2013 SP Site Collection and Farm Admin permissions and cannot access site
I am Farm Admin and Site Collection admin on my 2013 SP server and CAN access Central Admin, but CANNOT open the site without being promted for user name and password. When I enter the user name and password they are not accepted.
This is on my production server. I have NO PROBLEMs with the staging server. The 2 are set up exactly the same.
Any suggestions?Discussion
Farm Administrators are not automatically able to access site collections. They can however add themselves to the site collection administrators group. Additional detail:
Permissions for site collection administrators - scroll down to the
SharePoint farm administrators section (midway down) and look for the
Note.
Resolution
Add your farm administrators account to the site collection administrators group. You can do this two ways:
Go: Central administration > Application Management > Site Collections > Change site collection administrators
Go: [your site collection] > Site Settings > Users and Permissions > Site collection administrators. -
Reset Site Collection to Template selection page
Hi
I want to reset a site collection to a point where its possible to select the site collection from a template.
Previously, in the Site Settings I selected Reset to site definition, I was expecting to ne able to navigate to the site collection and see the site collection template page but instead no page was found.
So how is this possible, will I have to create a new site collection every time? (I dont have access to CA)
ThanksReset to Site Definition simply reverts any "Ghosted" pages to the original formats stored on the file server in the site definition that was used to originally build the site. It essentially removes all customizations that have been made
in SharePoint Designer. There is no way to pick a different template for an existing Site Collection. The only way to get a different template is to delete the existing site collection (and all of its content) and then create a new site collection
with a different template. Templates are blueprints that are used to build a site. Once the site is built you can't change the original blueprint used.

Script to bulk assign 'My Site collection' secondary administrators
Hi
Staff in my company have already logged in and created their own My Sites and when they did this it set themselves as the primary administrator but left the secondary administrator blank. I want to add spadmin to the secondary administrator role.
I know you can set the secondary My Site administrators using
Set -SPSite -identity https://my.company.org.uk/personal/jamesv -secondaryowneralias DOMAIN\spadmin
Could someone please help me put this into a loop which would cycle through all of the personal sites in that web application and then set spadmin as secondary administrator for all.
Id like to learn more about Powershell but not really sure where to look, what courses to do.. if anyone knows of any please also let me know.
Many Thanks

Event Receiver for all Page Libraries in a Site Collection
We have a single site collection with many different page libraries. I'd like to create a single event receiver for ALL page libraries in the site collection (850- Page Library). Can you do this?
The event receiver will essentially remove/expire something we have stored in the System.Web.HttpRuntime.Cache. We are caching the content in the Page Library and would only like to expire the cache when a new page or change is performed on some
content in the page library.Hi,
We can create a new feature and add an event receiver to the feature for all Page Libraries.
For more information, you can see the link below:

Hi,
When a site collection was created, I enabled the Document ID feature at site collection level. Then some item was created in a document library as well as list libarary
Now it was decided that we dont want the Document ID feature so I disable the feature from Collection feature list
Still when a user view the property of a document it shows the Document ID property with the ID (when click on the ID it shows the message that
This Site Collection is not configured to use Document IDs.

Correlation ID: 9640ac9f-4b9c-4ae8-9f0b-402ed7e3b3c5) Is there anything that I should do so that DOcument ID property does not show on the document property page... I tried
to looked at the content type to see if I can remove the document ID but I could not find the Document ID as a property that can be removed from the type
Hi,
I would just remove the column from the view. You can make views for each list, it you look under the list by Clicking List while the list is open, you should see a link in the ribbon which say "Modify view" click this link.
This link will open the edit view page you can then uncheck the box for the column which will remove it form that view.
According to this
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee559302.aspx
Deactivating the feature removes links to the Site Collection Settings page, makes the page that is used to look up document IDs no longer available, turns off the document ID service, and stops assigning document IDs. The server does not remove the columns
that it adds at the site level when the feature is first activated so that, even after deactivation, the existing document IDs are preserved. After the feature is deactivated, users who try to use a static URL to look up an item by its document ID see an error
message indicating that "This Site Collection is not configured to use document IDs."
The Document id service will add new columns to the document content type and the document set content type.
It also adds an event receiver which should be deactivated when you deactivate the doc id service.
Theoretically. You should be able to go in and remove the columns from the document type, and then force an update.
Thanks,
