Performance factors for criteria based groups

I am trying to understand what factors impact the performance of a criteria based group. I have read that member size has direct impact, but it does not make much sense, When a resource is updated, FIM looks for all criteria based groups that have criteria
containing the attributes updated in the resource and recalculates the membership of those groups. So my understanding is that the performance of criteria based group is dependent on the criteria, not on the member size of the group. If you have a lot
of criteria, then FIM will spend more time on evaluating the criteria and the chance of matching the attribute with the attributes updated in a resource will increase. The member size should not have much impact here.
Yes, member size can be an issue, but that will not be limited to a criteria based group - that should apply to any groups with large number of members. Because that impacts the memory footprints and complexity of membership calculation both in Sync
and in AD.
Is my understanding correct, or I am missing something?

If you have a lot of criteria, then FIM will spend more time on evaluating the criteria and the chance of matching the attribute with the attributes updated in a resource will increase.
For this, I know that in FIM 2010 R2 a new optimization feature came which fetches the information of "Common Criteria" from maximum number of groups and sets and uses this feature for calculating the group membership in a much faster
way which enhances the performance.
You can also, use the Deferred option in groups for calculating group membership. It is also a feature of FIM 2010 R2 for better performance.

  • Bug with criteria based groups in FIM R2 SP1

    Hello all,
We experience following unusual behavior within the FIM portal (FIM R2 SP1) with criteria based groups, which looks like a bug.
The behavior applies for all kind of criteria groups and can be reproduced with following steps:
      1. Open your criteria based group and click on your members tab:
    2. Click on General Tabs
    3. Click back to Members tab -->the criteria is not available anymore
Do anybody else experiences the same? This behaviour confuses our customers and leads to corrupted criteria based groups.

    Hi,
Please check the cache properties in Portal Configuration. Try and test your issue by increasing the cache values.
I am not sure, it will help you or not. But a try.

  • Can we create Criteria based groups of computers?

    Hi Team,
We have imported the computer objects to FIM portal and it has few attributes which can help creating the criteria based group of computers.
But when we tried creating the criteria based security group, we were not able to select any custom object other than Users,Groups in the filter builder.
We have added the computer objects in the Filter permission as well, but no luck.
    Any suggestions?
Thanks and Regards, Siva Kumar Balaguru

    Hi Siva
    you definitely can do so.
You have to modify the RCDC for Group creation. Look for "GroupingCalculatedMembers". within this section you will find a "FilterBuilder" section and here you Change "PermittedObjectTypes" to the list of your object types you
want to be able to include in your Groups.

  • Update more than one criteria based group

    Hi,
Due to some change in the primary fields. We have got a burden to change the criteria for multiple groups. Is there any way to change criteria of more than one group using "Filter" attribute or with some other approach at a time.
    Regards,
    Manuj Khurana

Depending on what the details of the changes are, you could write a powershell script which bulk updates the criteria in the groups (Using a CSV file for example, groupname as one column and the xpath filter for the criteria as the second column)

  • Complete Sorting Criteria Hierarchy for songs/episodes/groups with Classic

Ok, I have an idea that I think would help a lot of people. Let us begin a thread that tries to explain, in detail, the sorting filters, in order of priority, that the iPod Classic uses to sort its lists of albums, songs, tv episodes, etc., once you have a list in front of you on the screen. This goes for Cover Flow mode, regular listing, etc.
Here is what I propose. For example, let's start with songs. In iTunes, when you choose to edit the info on a particular song, you can choose which fields to populate. You may or may not enter the year, the track number, the composer, etc. On your iPod, then, if you click on an Album, the songs you see within that album will be listed by +track number, as they were assigned in iTunes+. Track number takes highest precedence in the hierarchy when it comes to sorting songs within an album.
    - But, if you go Main Menu->Music->Albums, how are all the albums sorted? Alphabetically by album title? Alphabetically by artist? Is there a way to sort them by year? Would you like the freedom to choose, if Apple provided it?
    - How are the compilations sorted into the mix?
    - How does applying an "album artist" affect the sorting, as opposed to just applying an "artist?"
    - How do songs that are "grouped" together with the same "Grouping" field affect sort lists on the iPod?
    - In Cover Flow mode, now with firmware upgrade 1.0.2, what is the sort criteria for albums in Cover Flow? Alphabetically by album title? Alphabetically by artist of the first track on the compilation? Alphabetically by "album artist?" What if no "album artist" has been attributed to a "compilation?"
    - What about TV Episodes? Within a particular season, what is the primary determining factor for sorting episodes? Is it alphabetically by title? By release date? Or by episode #? Or by something else?
To some, this may seem tedious or trivial. But there seem to be so many issues flying around right now, and many of them center squarely upon the inability to sync and sort properly. Many people are digitizing a cd library for the first time with the release of the 160 GB iPod Classic, and when you're trying to organize HUNDREDS of songs, albums, compilations, and tv episodes, understanding exactly how the iPod sorts all your precious data is crucial. Knowledge is power, and we want to know.
ANY help you can contribute to any aspect of iPod sorting, no matter how obvious or how technical, would be appreciated by all.

  • Person DFF Context Value based on 2 criteria (Business Group and Emp Type)?

    Hello,
We're implementing HR module into multiple business groups.
I need to define context value for DFF "Additional Personal Details" based on 2 criteria Business Group ID and Employee Type
Any idea how to do it?
    Thank you
    Elie

    Hello Elie,
I am not sure on it,However have you tried creating a context with combination of Business Group and Person Type using merging,
business_group_id || "_"|| person_type_id And structures would be something like 80_2112 Business Group id = 80 and Person Type id=2112.
It may resolve your issue if this works out.

  • Incorrect data for proportional factor in query based on Planning Book

    hi,
We have upgraded from APO 3.1 to SCM 5.0.
Post upgrade, the proportional factor is being displayed incorrectly in the BEX query based on the Planning Book data if we run the query for multiple months.
    for eg,
if, in the planning book, the proportional factor for months 10.2009 and 11.2009 are as follows :
Brand  >> Month >> Proportional Factor
    B1 >> 10.2009 >> 70%
    B2 >> 10.2009 >> 30%
    B1 >> 11.2009 >> 80%
    B2 >> 11.2009 >> 20%
When we execute the query for the above brands for months 10.2009 and 11.2009,
then, at the total level, the % displayed is 100% and the data at brand level is halved.
We do not have any exits or formulae operating at the key figure level in the query and hence are unable to figure out why this is happenning...
    Any clue on this ?
    regards,
    Anirudha

  • No performance metrics for group with 2 OC4Js

I created a new group with 2 OC4J instances through the console. Then I created an additional web site (AJP protocol) for these 2 OC4Js to provide access from a HTTP server. Everything is working as expected.
But in the console, I do not get any performance metrics for these OC4Js. Everything is appearing as Unavailable. I do see performance metrics for my home OC4J instance where the console is running from.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Interesting would also be how many changes are made to fields of roles before they become a * value in the end anyway...
I place my bets on S_PROGRAM and a close second being S_TABU_DIS on that score card.
    Cheers,

  • Using Multiple Object Types in a FIM Managed Criteria Distribution Group

Is it possible to use multiple object types in a criteria based distribution group. So when building your criteria filter, "Select (object type) that match (all/any) of the following condiftions". Currently you can only choose 1 object type and
I want to be able to choose object type "user" and a custom object type I create for my contacts

You can create main condition as "any" and later add two sub-conditions - one that object in set "All People" and other sub-condition that object in set "All Contacts" or "All Groups".
If you found my post helpful, please give it a Helpful vote. If it answered your question, remember to mark it as an Answer.

  • Recommended storage for Network-based accounts?

Hello everyone. Sorry in advance for all the following information, but I want to thorough in hopes of allowing you to offer better input. I'm using an Xserve 2 x 2.8 Ghz. Quad Xeon (Mac OS X Server 10.6.6) with 22 GBs RAM and 6 GB NIC LACP bond to our backbone switch. This switch feeds three labs, each with their own gigabit switch, with a total of approximately 50 iMacs combined. All iMacs are connected via gigabit ethernet. All user accounts are network-based, bound to the Xserve via OD via AFP. I have WGM folder-redirects to keep the user caches folder and some of the Adobe stuff off the network for better performance. Primary software is the Adobe Creative Suite Premium CS5 throughout; with one lab using Final Cut Express & Pro and Adobe After Effects. This lab has local partitions for the high I/O requirements of video editing (so I'm not looking to sustain multiple HD streams over the network. etc.). I installed an 8TB OWC Mercury Rack Pro (external hardware RAID enclosure) with an Oxford 936 chipset this past summer, which is currently configured as RAID 5 and connected to the Xserve via a NewerTech 6GB-capable SATA host card (also provided by OWC). All of our network home directories are on the OWC Mercury Rack Pro. We also upgraded two of our three labs with brand new 27" Intel i5 iMacs this past summer. Lastly, I upgraded the Xserve to Snow Leopard also this past summer.
    The Problem:
Since the upgrades this past summer (Snow Leopard Server, OWC Mercury Rack Pro, new iMacs), network account performance is notably more sluggish (log-in, opening apps, etc.) compared to before the upgrades (Xserve was running Server 10.5.8, labs had Mac Mini systems with gigabit running Mac OS X 10.5.8 and Adobe CS4). My network accounts were on an eSATA Rocstor ArticRoc RAID 5 unit previously, connected to the Xserve via an older Sonnet Tempo-X SATA card (which was PCI-X, not PCI-Express).
Turns out the new iMacs don't support jumbo frames (yikes!), but notwithstanding that issue, it appears like the new Mercury Rack Pro might not be performing well under load. I've done some testing using OWC's provided QuickBench software. I logged into 3 iMacs using a local admin account, mounted three separate home directories from the Xserve and started testing performance simultaneously (to simulate multiple user access). The iMacs were next to each other, so my tests were started about 1 second apart, but were otherwise running simultaneously. Here's the results for review:
The tests were performed without file caching enabled, to better gauge the raw storage performance. The results for each test file size are in MB/sec and the 4 result columns in order from left to right are Seq. Read, Seq. Write, Rand. Read, Rand. Write. The averages are totaled at the bottom. Hope this comes through in a readable fashion...

It appears that small file performance is poor (historically a problem via AFP, I recall), but the Random Write performance is what scared me the most. It's very low across the spectrum. I'm going to provide these results to OWC for review, but wanted to get some additional perspective from the community. I'd appreciate any thoughts or ideas you might share.
    Related Question:
We may have 35 users logged in at peak time. But given that I'm hosting network accounts for approximately 50 gigabit-equipped Macs, what would you recommend (or are you using) for storage based on my usage criteria mentioned earlier? I'm hoping there's a solution that's less expensive than the fibre-channel Promise RAID (or equivalent); as our budget unfortunately won't support that. Any storage solutions in the SATA realm that might be sufficient for hosting home directories where video capture isn't required?
Thanks for your patience and your advice!

RE: options (b) or (c) with external firewire or USB drives -- if you go this route, are you thinking of afp- or smb-mounting (i.e., ⌘k in Finder) the mini or cube or G3? If so, you'll want to get ahold of SharePoints (unless you know how to create mount points in NetInfo), so you can create an additional mount point on the mini or cube or G3 for your external drive. As you know, when you afp-mount another Mac, the mount points that show up are the individual user accounts on that other Mac /Users/{shortUserNameGoesHere}. But an external firewire drive would not be visible at /Volumes/{extDriveNameGoesHere} on the mini or cube or G3 from these User mount points because /Volumes/{extDriveNameGoesHere} is not in the path of /Users/{shortUserNameGoesHere}. The only way that you could get there would be if you connected as admin on the cube or mini or G3, and then mounted the mini or cube or G3 at its root (/). But you might not want to let regular user accounts access the cube or mini or G3 as admin. But SharePoints will let you define that mount point, so when you ⌘k, it shows up just like the user names do. I am not familiar with smb mounts (for the benefit of your Wintel boxes) but SharePoints will let you define smb mount points, too. It has enabled me to create a "community (inbound) fax" afp mount point, for remote users to retrieve faxes from my computer, as well as permit a "central" afp-mount point for all my users' dropboxes, so you don't have to mount every user if you have multiple drops to make. (That required me to actually move all the drop boxes to a common folder, and make aliases to those locations back in the original users' drop box locations). So you might want to look into SharePoints if you decide to go this route.

  • Top 5 Performance Counters for SSAS Multidimentional

I have SharePoint 2013 and SQL Server 2014 based reporting solution on Azure.
I have dedicated VM for SSAS.
I would like to collect performance data (CPU, RAM etc...)
What are top 5 most important performance counter for SSAS? (PERFMON)
    Kenny_I

    Hi ,
Every Counter has there own use and significance and most important will depend on your requiremnt like whta you exactly want to Monitor.
Apart from above ; The most useful counters here would be in the MSASXX:Processing group, Rows read/sec and Rows written/sec, which will give you an idea of how fast SSAS is reading data from the data source. As a general rule you should
expect to get 40-60000 rows/sec from SQL Server, and if you're getting less you should try to tune the database you're getting data from rather than SSAS itself. Partitioning measure groups in SSAS and processing partitions in parallel is also a good way of
    improving processing performance.
Please Refer below link for better understanding of performance counter :

Am running LMS 4.0, i want to customize performance threshold for interface utilization from the default 40% to x%, please help.

Based on your other post, I think you're talking about Device Fault management.  You can go to Monitor > Fault Settings > Setup > Threshold Settings, and select the DFM > System Defined Groups > Interface and the interface type you want, then edit the thresholds for this group.  Change the default utilization threshold from 40% to your desired value.  Save your changes, then go to Monitor > Fault Settings > Setup > Apple Changes to apply them.
