Performance issue possibly due to wrong parameters??
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bit.
We have a program that runs every two weeks to process 3million records in our Oracle 10g database. Processing normally takes about 6 hours. With no change to the program (which is a java client program), the processing time has gotten longer and longer over the last few weeks. The processor on the database server was upgraded to iTanium and during this upgrade the databases were striped to fix a read/write issue that occurred due to poor configuration (it wasn't using multiple channels for processing so everything ran super slow) when the server hardware was upgraded. Since the last upgrade to the processor, we've noticed many errors being generated on the server when our program runs (java null reference errors). these errors never occurred before the upgrade. The upgrade was in July. In August we noticed the beginning of a degradation in performance - the process went from 6 hours to 10 hours. This month, it is taking 20 hours. Next month I fear it will be 40 hours.
The program launches multiple sessions that work at once doing an update against the same table. The last time it ran it started at 6AM and by 1PM it was only 11% done. I looked at the session stats and saw the top 5 wait events:
SQL*Net message from client-->
totalwaits=11,997
timewaited=2,070,070
avgwait=172
enq: TX - row lock contention-->
totalwaits=587
timewaited 65,614
avgwait=111
timeouts=180
latch:cache buffers chains-->
totalwaits=933
timewaited=1,815
avgwait=2
db file sequential read-->
totalwaits=1,426
timewaited=1,519
avgwait=1
log file sync-->
totalwaits=1,422
totalwaited=2594
avgwait=2
It looks like all of these values are way too high and I'm wondering what parameters we could change on the database/server side that might improve performance in these areas.
I read that increasing the INITRANS VALUE TO SOMETHING GREATER THAN ONE WOULD HELP WITH THE ROW LOCK CONTENTION AND TIMEOUTS.
I also read that changing DB_CACHE_ADVICE OFF WOULD HELP WITH THE CACHE BUFFER CHAINS ISSUE.
Are these viable solutions? Changing the program is not an option right now. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
sorry i am not getting your question, i am guessing your question, you can reduce the log file sync by
COMMIT WRITE BATCH;
COMMIT WRITE IMMEDIATE;
or
The disks or I/O subsystems where the redologs are placed may be too busy.
- Reduce other I/O activity on the disks containing the redo logs, or use dedicated disks.
- Move the redo logs to faster disks or a faster I/O subsystem.
- Move the redolog files from RAID 5 devices. RAID 5 is not efficient for writes.
- Alternate redo logs on different disks to minimize the effect of the archiver on the log writer.
Kind Regards,
Rakesh JayappaMy point is that even if you eliminate it completely you have only eliminated a tiny fraction of the total wait time -- it may look like low hanging fruit, but it's a very small piece of fruit indeed.

Thank you very much again!Hi Melanie, Thank you very much for replying me so soon!!
I am using this version:
SAP MaxDB 7.6 for Windows (x86, 32 bit) SAP Evaluation Software
(Version 7.6.03.15, approx. 113.36 MB)11 Feb 2008
and based on your direction, I have solved the problem, previously I was installing it with option "desktop PC/laptop", this time I choose "custom", then it is ok without errors! I can complete the installation successfully!
Really appreciate your great help!

Performance issues, possibly video.
My computer is by no means new (p4 2.4, 2GB, 128MB AGP video), however, I get particularly crappy performance through most simple tasks. Scrolling in any browswer is SUPER choppy (CPU usage of browser & Xorg spikes when scrolling). Window performance is decent but not as good as it probably should be. Even things like opening & switching tabs lags 1-2 seconds. Any ideas on narrowing & fixing this issue? (NVIDIA card, base xorg.conf + nvidia-xconfig)

Idle is fine, only abnormality is the spike when scrolling that I mentioned in the original post, Xorg spikes when moving windows and things as well.

Performance Degradated Possibly due to CPU Time
Hi Gurus,
There is a utility in our application with which we can upload an excel sheet containing data and schedule the timing of the job, now when the job is executed, each row in the excel sheet leads to dml operations on multiple tables finally leading to generation of a transaction no. Now at the start around 100-120 transaction nos were generated which goes down drastically to around 30-35 after 6-7 hours. AWR report at the two instances shows that CPU time has decreased considerably in the 2nd case.
I would like you experts to check the awr reports and suggest me the probable reason for the decrease in performance.

RajeshHi CKPT,
Thanks for your reply.
The main finding that I have got from addm report (in both the cases i.e when performance was good initially vis a vis when performance deteriorated is the same -
FINDING 1: 100% impact (3234 seconds)
Significant virtual memory paging was detected on the host operating system.
RECOMMENDATION 1: Host Configuration, 100% benefit (3234 seconds)
ACTION: Host operating system was experiencing significant paging but no
particular root cause could be detected. Investigate processes that
do not belong to this instance running on the host that are consuming
significant amount of virtual memory. Also consider adding more
physical memory to the host.
I still am unable to find out the reasons ... pls help.
Thanks

Performance Improvement possible due to replacing delete-command?
Dear Specialists,
has anybody of you an idea how i still could improve the performance of the following part of a program?
I was thinking if it could be helpful to avoid the deletion at the end of the pasted coding somehow...
DATA gt_knb1 TYPE HASHED TABLE OF t_knb1 WITH UNIQUE KEY bukrs akont.
IF s_bukrs[] IS INITIAL.
SELECT akont COUNT(*) AS count FROM knb1
INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE gt_knb1 "#EC CI_NOFIRST
GROUP BY akont. "#EC CI_NOWHERE
ELSE.
SELECT bukrs akont COUNT(*) FROM knb1 INTO TABLE gt_knb1"#EC CI_NOFIRST
WHERE bukrs IN s_bukrs
GROUP BY bukrs akont. "#EC CI_NOWHERE
ENDIF.
DELETE gt_knb1 WHERE bukrs IN s_bukrs AND akont = space.
Thanks a lot in advance
Best regards

Hello all,
please note, the "CORRESPONDING FIELDS" is not so relevant nowadays. Few milliseconds are not going to change a picture.
Refer to this thread:
into corresponding fields of table VERSUS into table
Please stop recommending it in EACH AND EVERY thread appearing in this forum.
The correct answer is given by Volker above.
And by the way, are you really sure that your problem is in the DELETE statement? I would actually suspect the SELECT to be a time-consumer.

Activation of ABAP not possible due to wrong syntax error
Hi All,
I copied some FORMs in a new include, to keep the "old" includes as they are after testing the bugfix.
Now I face the syntax error, that all of this copies methods are already there "a FORM already exists with this Name..."
BUT: This is not true, each copied FORM only exists once in the program. All includes are active, just the newest I created. I cannot activate it.
Even If I reneame the FORMs, then I get the error for the new name, I've never used before.
Do you have any suggestions, what to do?
regards
VolkerHi Volker ,
Either you replace old include program with New include then your new FORM will be cativate and if you cahnge Form Name with different then please check where old perform was there and change perform name also in your include program then it will be work.

Major performance Issues after upgrading to 10.9.2
Hi,
I have been having major performance issues almost preventing me from using the computer at times. I suspect I don't have enough memory to run Maverick as the computer was great before I upgraded.
If any experts or people with ideas for me to speed up the computer, please respond. If you think the only way to improve performance is add memory or revert back to a previous version of OSX that I have a backup for, let me know.

Good issue from delivery not possible due to credit block
Hi gurus,
Please help me on this issue.while doing PGI for the delivery i am getting the following error message."Good issue from delivery not possible due to credit block "The simple credit check is assigned for the sales document type.iam doing free of charge delivery.
What are all the possible ways to get such error

Visbut system behavior is not set in transaction OVA8, means combination of risk categories and 03 is not set.
I think you are checking the wrong risk category, please check once again the Risk category of the payer in FD32, what is it assigned and also check OVA8 with this risk category.
If you find the above settings are correct as per your observation, try to create a fresh cycle so that you will get the correct results as per your settings in delivery.
In your case what you are saying is correct, may be the risk category is changed recently this you can check the change log of the payer customer in FD32( if any change takes place).
If possible try to past the screen shot of both.

Short dump due to performance issue
Hi all,
I am facing performance issue in my sandbox. Below is the content of short dump.
Short text
Unable to fulfil request for 805418 bytes of memory space.
What happened?
Each transaction requires some main memory space to process
application data. If the operating system cannot provide any more
space, the transaction is terminated.
What can you do?
Try to find out (e.g. by targetted data selection) whether the
transaction will run with less main memory.
If there is a temporary bottleneck, execute the transaction again.
If the error persists, ask your system administrator to check the
following profile parameters:
o ztta/roll_area (1.000.000 - 15.000.000)
Classic roll area per user and internal mode
usual amount of roll area per user and internal mode
o ztta/roll_extension (10.000.000 - 500.000.000)
Amount of memory per user in extended memory (EM)
o abap/heap_area_total (100.000.000 - 1.500.000.000)
Amount of memory (malloc) for all users of an application
server. If several background processes are running on
one server, temporary bottlenecks may occur.
Pls help me to resolve this issue

Kalyani

I have done the hard work for you. My HTPC is pretty barebones so it was relatively easy to roll back all the packages that depend on libjpeg>7 with older versions. I then compiled the xbmc-svn package using that system. Slow downs are gone and I have uploaded the package to hotfile here:
http://hotfile.com/dl/13546051/021f9c9/ … ar.gz.html
This is for 32-bit. You will need the libjpeg6 package from AUR installed. I have tested it on two systems, my main system which has both libjpeg7 and the AUR libjpeg6 installed and on my htpc which has only the libjpeg6 along with the rolled back dependancies. Works good on both systems.
Hope that helps!
Kevin
Thanks ould!! You got it working with libjpeg6 again!
I had to upgrade libcdio again so now I lost dvd support. It's not easy to use the svn version.
If you could compile the build against libcdio 0.80 I'd be forever grateful... If you've got the time.

Hi All,
We have used WSRP Portlet in Webcenter Portal Page. The Portlet is created using JSF Bridge out of ADF Bounded Taskflow.
It is causing Performance issue. Every time static content like js, css and images URLs are downloaded and the URL contain portlet_id and few other dynamic parameters like resource_id, client_id etc.
We are not able to cache these static content as these contains dynamic URL. This ADF Specific images, js and css files are taking longer time to load.

Please suggest , how this performance issue can be resolved?
Thanks.
Regards,
DigeshStrange...
I can't reproduce this because i have issues with creating portlets... If i can solve this issue i will do some testing and see if i can reproduce the issue...
Can you create a new producer with a single portlet that uses a simple taskflow and see if that works?
Are you also using business components in the taskflows or something? You can try removing some parts of the taskflow and test if it works so you can identify the component(s) that causes the issues. -

Cisco ASR 1002- performance issue due to access list
Hi,
We are planning to implement inbound access-list to block subnets from particular country. Since the subnets are not contiguous, we have about 16000 lines of acl entries.
I want to know, would there be any performance or latency issues after applying 16k lines of acl?
Is there a good document where I can read more about ACL limitations and performance issues on ASR.
This is for ASR1002, running IOS-XE 15.3(1)S1.
