Performance Monitor data collector logs 2 entries instead of one

I have a problem on a Windows 2008 Server. I've attempted multiple times to create a data collector set to log performance counters at various intervals.
Instead of it logging 1 row per time, it logs 2. And the metrics are different on each one.
No errors on the server. Example pasted below.
"06/06/2014 14:24:36.934" "1.3780056338967284"
"06/06/2014 14:24:36.937" "100"
"06/06/2014 14:25:36.934" "0.97016384152540658"
"06/06/2014 14:25:36.937" "67.5"
Any ideas? I don't have this problem on other servers.
Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,
Based on your description, please install the following Hotfix and check if can solve this issue.
Duplicated data may be in the Performance log when
you use the Performance Logs and Alerts service to collect performance data in Windows Server 2008, in Windows Vista, in Windows 7, or in Windows Server 2008 R2
If this issue still persists, please let me summarily know how you create the Data Collector Set.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Justin Gu

  • Exchange 2013 Performance Monitor Data Collector Sets

I've noticed that the Exchange 2013 install created two data collector sets within Performance Monitor:
    ExchangeDiagnosticsDailyPerformanceLog
    ExchangeDiagnosticsPerformanceLog
These sets are creating daily log files saved in C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Logging\Diagnostics\DailyPerformanceLogs that are about 500MB in size, which are filling up our system volume.
I've tried stopping them, but they get restarted automatically. I also tried deleting them, but they get recreated automatically. Is there a way to disable these? We have a 3rd party tool that we use for performance monitoring and would like to avoid having
to delete these log files on a regular basis to keep our system volume from filling up.
As a workaround, I've changed the path where the log files get saved to a non existent drive letter, but would still like to disable the Data Collector Sets completely.
    Thanks,
    -Cory

    Do note,
These performance counters only take up 1 week and not more so it will be about 3-5 GB if you can`t spare this on you c disk you have not implemented any best practise exchange design.
specialy with todays JBOD SATA design your c disk will be 1TB +. Review your designs to match MS advise.
    MCTS-MCITP exchange 2010 | MCTS-MCITP Exchange: 2007 | MCSA Messaging: 2003 | MCP windows 2000
    Hello Martin,
Many of us are implementing exchange in a virtual environment, where disk is at a premium.  Spending money on a 1 TB system drive is not a reasonable expectation.  Even if that is best practice, there should be a way to manage the location and
    size of these log files.
The inability to manage the location of log/performance data for centralization, or other reasons, is one more example of the disconnect between MS and their customer's use cases in regards to 2013.
These are the requirements for 2013 from MS:
At least 30 GB on the drive on which you install Exchange
An additional 500 MB of available disk space for each Unified Messaging (UM) language pack that you plan to install
200 MB of available disk space on the system drive
A hard disk that stores the message queue database on with at least 500 MB of free space.
So your statement is invalid as 30 GB is not even close to deal with the amount of log and performance data that we cannot modify in any way.

  • Capturing performance monitor data to a file

We would like to be able to capture the performance monitoring data, such as the memory
usage to a file for later use in reports or analysis. I know how to view interactively,
but cannot figure out a way (if there is one) to capture it to a file.

Change the char at column 47 of line 356 from a ',' to a '.' and it should work perfectly.
In case that does not work for you, you might try *showing us your SSCCE that fails!*
In the meantime, here are two code sources that can save WAVs.

  • Activity Data Collector Log Analysis

    Hi Experts,
Is it only me who wonders about how to analze the ADC Logs?
Isn't there any standart tool, method to analyze it?
The product desc. says you can export to excel or, BI to analze but isn't there any standart way to do it with standart log conf?
    regards

    Hi,
My understand is that currently there is no standard tool from SAP to analyse this data. So you will have to do something custom.
I have also seen the following tool demo'd to me: [http://www.sweetlets.com/click_stream.html |http://www.sweetlets.com/click_stream.html ]it requires a separate DB to be configured but has great reporting functions and UI.

  • ICACLS creates two entries instead of one

I am using the command ICACLS to create permission for one user on the drive d:\. I use the following syntax.
    icacls d:\ /grant "wkusr":(X,RD,RA,REA,RC) /T
    icacls d:\ /deny "wkusr":(AD,WA,WEA,DC,D,WDAC,WO) /T
Instead of creating one entry in the Advanced Security Settings of drive D:\ I have two, one for the Allow and the other for deny. How can I have only one entry?
Or does the above commands do exactly what I need no matter if I have one or two entries?
    Thanks

    Hi Louis,
Do you mean tow permissions on one user in security->advanced->Permissions Tab?
It is very normal because this is different type of permission modification. There will be tow entries even you grant permission by using GUI, it will be shown as two different permission in advanced->Permissions Tab (deny and allow). These two entries
    will do its job fine.
If the commands has conflict, the new one will replace conflicts part in the older one.

  • Performance Monitor Remote Data Collection unable to get data

When attempting data collection of a remote Windows 2008 server (Server_B) from another W2k8 server (Server_A) I receive the following error:  "When attempting to start the Data Collector Set the following system error occurred:  No data to
    return."
However remote real-time monitoring of Server_B is no problem.  Also, local real-time monitoring and data collection of Server_A is successful.
Is the error due to security restrictions?

    Hi Scott,
Would you please let me know whether have administrator rights on the server trying to collect data collector set?
Please type services.msc on RUN. When Services panel opened, please navigate to Performance Logs & Alerts
service and check if it started. Meanwhile, please temporarily disable firewall and monitor the result.
In addition, please refer to following KB and check if can help you.
The Data Collector Set may not start on a computer that is
running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista
Performance Monitor data collector set does not collect all
required performance counter data in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2
If any update, please feel free to let me know.

  • Performance Monitor MMC crashes

Ever since we patched our servers up to MS14-016, when we open Performance Monitor and click on Data Collector Sets > System the MMC hangs and eventually crashes.  All other functions of the Performance Monitor work just fine (ie. Monitoring Tools

  • Activity Data Collector & Web Analytics Tool

    Hello,
Has anyone used a Web Analytics tool, such as WebTrends, to analyze the Activity Data Collector logs/files?
I would appreciate your input on this matter. We are looking to tack/report on the portal usage (iViews, pages, etc).
    Regards,
    Omar

    Hi Omar,
Why not go for Portal Activity Report to monitor Portal Activities and also users.
The portal activity report feature enables portal administrators to gather and present information about portal activity, including information about the users who logged on to the portal and about the content that was viewed.
The feature includes an iView that can display a portal activity report with one of the following:
    a) Information about the number of users who logged on during a specified period of time
This type of portal activity report also displays a graphic showing the change in the number of users logged on over time.
    b) Information about the users who logged on
    c) Information about the number of users who visited each page and iView.

    http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Setting_up_Devices_for_Prime_Collaboration_Assurance#Configuring_Unified_Contact_Center_Enterprise_Devices
And now I am arrived on this step:
Configure Cisco Mediatrace, Cisco IOS IP SLA, and Performance Monitoring
Not all the Cisco devices that I have on the network are "Mediatrace, IP SLA and Performance Monitoring" capabilities. The core switch is one of them.
What will happen if some devices are configured with these capabilities and some are not?
Are the data provided from Cisco Collaboration still reliable?
    Thanks in advance.
    Luigi

I can't see a reason why the 2 features won't work together. The 2 features will work just fine with each other.
Unfortunately there is no sample config with both feature in the same document, but it will work just fine.

  • Performance Monitoring - How to get the data

    Hi all,
we have a tool to monitor non sap systems and services and would like to use the same tool to get some runtime information from PI services, specially soap interfaces. The information we want is available at runtime workbench, performance monitoring.
Is there a standard function we can use to get this data (EJB , Bapi, RFC, etc...) ? Today we are importing daily a file with this information from RWB, but this is enough only for statistical purposes, not for monitoring.
    Some tip?
    thank you.
    regards.
    roberti

    Roberti,
Three are a number of ways to tackle these things - I usually like CCMS just because SAP spends so much time making it work for everything anyway - if your tool can connect to this - you can get some decent information from here about your system status, queue's and java.
Speficially for Messages, I don't think that there are monitors defined as RFC BADI's or BAPI's to use but if you feel saucy, tables for messages are SXMSPMAST2 and SXMSPMAST - should give you a programming head-start to get some data and pass that back although you would only replicate the functions in CCMS.
Of course with all SAP Products, you have to go through the application to get this data, no ODBC connections or otherwise - there are other options like DBCON to allow you to 'send' data to other Db's if you need to do it that way.
Hope that helps somewhat and if this answers your question, please set your thread to answered.

    Hi,
I have configured the activity data collector by setting the following properties in ADC and restarted the service
    Activate Data Collection :true
Additional File Formats: --(not set anythng left blank)
    Base File Name: Portal Activity
    Directory Name: portalActivityTraces
    File Encoding : UTF-8

    Main File Format : %Orfo.t(dd-MM-yyyy HH:mm:ss,GMT+5.5)%%Stab%%Orfo.ct%%Stab%%Orfo.in%%Stab%%Orfo.un%%Stab%%Orfo.bt%%Stab%%Orfo.pu%%Stab%%Orfo.rh(referer)%%Snl%
    Max Buffer size :500KB
Max File Size : 10240 KB
The files are created in the folder called "Portal Activity Traces" But the issue is with the name of the log files getting created
Since i have not set any additional file formats, The log files consist of main file formats
the file names are like this

some files are of type text document and some are of type "open" wat does tis mean?
If i set t "Hour in the day to close all files"
to 0 wen does it write the log files? Is it at 12? after that will it create a new file?
n in the main file format i have set the time to GMT5.5 (since IST is GMT5.5) but im not getting the proper time format

    Hi Prasanna,
    Thanks for the reply.
Actually there are about 3 to 4 files which are of type .open and they have created long back. Are those files still getting populated. If we set the "hour to close all files" to 0 it should close the open files and create the new(fresh) files for the next day right?
According to the documentation in help portal, "Files may be closed before reaching this limit(Max File Size), as all files are closed at the hour specified in the Hour in the day to close all files property."
Then how come some old files are still getting populated?
Midnight means wat time in particular? Plz explain
About timestamp is it the time the file was created in some format?
If anyone knows plz explain the format of timestamp

    Dear Deepak
    Thanks for quick response.
    Note 1462415 - DB6: SQL -444 error messages in system log  ( SAP_BW 701 SP7 suggested)
This is already implemented and updated in my 1st message.
Note 978319 - DB6: Incorrectly cataloged table functions
This note can not be implemented due to version issue.
Kindly suggest some more hints on top of what I already did.

  • Performance monitor stops running

In Windows Server 2012, in Performance Monitor, I have a user-defined Data Collector Set. It is configured to sample every 2 minutes. But it stops running after taking only 3 samples. Could I please get some advice on how to find what is stopping this so
    that it will run indefinitely?
Here is some more detail from the properties:
Schedule - Nothing set. I start the set running from Task Scheduler.
    Stop Condition - Nothing enabled.
    Log format: CSV
I don't see anything in the Application or System event logs that say anything about the performance monitor. Maybe there is another event log that I don't know about.
I have similar reports running on WS2008 machines and they don't stop running.
    Cam

    Hi Cam,
If you mean to run this data collector indefinitely, please try to set 1439 ((23*60) + 59 )minutes for the Overall duration in stop condition, which is 23 hours and 59 minutes total run time. Because Reports are compiled once the collector
set stops. This means we can’t let this collector just simply run forever because I will never get a report.
Please also check the option "If the task is already running, then the following rule applies: Stop the existing instance" in the related scheduled task under Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows > PLA.
I also recommend you can go through this article, which lists many good tips to configure Data Collector Sets:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askpfeplat/archive/2012/02/27/taming-perfmon-data-collector-sets.aspx
If there is anything else regarding this issue, please feel free to post back.
