Performance of large v. small compositions containing only vector files

Hey all, do the two of these approaches have different impacts on performance in AE?
Situation 1:
A composition is 19,200 x 10,800 pixels in AE (that may be larger than the possible size, but for sake of discussion, it's a large-sized comp).
It contains three complex shape layers that are purely vector imagery, they have some transformations.
Situation 2:
A composition is 192 x 108 pixels in AE
It contains the same three complex shape layers, just smaller in relative scale.
If these two compositions are placed in a standard 1080p composition...
Will the larger composition have a bigger impact on performance due to rasterization of the vectors, or will AE recognize the different vectors and scales and interpret them such that they require the exact same amount of processing power / ram? Are there any caveats here or times when performance is impacted differently? Thanks for the help!

Hey, thanks Todd (fyi, that last reply was from Glixity not me). I tried it by creating a couple of comps:
1. 3000x3000 with shape layer containing 20 point path with bezier curves doing a path animation
2. 300x300 with the same shape layer doing a slightly different animation
Individually, these took very different amounts of time to render. The larger took about ten or more times as long to render. I then put both of these in a standard 1920x1080 comp scaled at 36% and 360% respectively, and when within that secondary comp, they required the same amount of render time. Thanks for the suggestion - that definitely answered my main question. I was wondering if there are any notable times when this changes. I.e. Is this true of shape layers but not true of certain asset types or anything like that? Or are there certain animations that don't speed up when composited within another composition? Thanks again.

  • Photo cd contains only "alias" files and I cannot find my images....

A few months ago, I burned a few photo cds.  I created these by dragging the files from my camera's memory card to the cd folder and then burned them.  I thought I was being careful and checked each cd after it was complete to confirm the photos were all there.  At the time all looked fine.  I then erased the camera memory card to create more usable space.  Now those same cds only contain alias files and my images cannot be located in any files or folders.  Can I recover or did I make a mistake with something that used to be so simple??  Thank you for any suggestions and help with this.

Your cd's only had aliases burned to them. When you checked the contents of a burned CD the memory card would have been still mounted, so the aliases automatically found the original files and opened them. This will only work if the memory card with the original photos is mounted.
The correct procedure is to create a Burn Folder. (File / New Burn folder). With the memory card connected, drag the photos to the Burn folder. You can rename the folder, say Photos. When you are ready to burn, go to File menu and and you will see the option: Burn Photos to Disk.
After the burn, you can trash the Burn folder, or reuse it.
In fact the Burn folder also contains just aliases, but when you burn, the original items are found and burned to the CD.
p.s. To copy the actual files (rather than aliases) from the memory card you have to hold the Option key down when you drag and drop.

  • How to create a Jar with only class files?

    Dear all,
I want to create a jar file with only classes. My class files and java files are in different folders under com .
    say
    com
in com there are two folders
    folder 1 -- subfolder 1
    folder 2 -- subfolder 2
    like this.
If i want to create a jar file from com directory how should i give the jar command.Again my jar should contain only .class files.
    Any help will be appreciated
    Thanks
    lekshmi

It doesn't work.Says "No such class or directory"
Any other way Or is it possible to do so?Read the link I posted and create the statement to make your structure. I was thinking you were inside the com directory but if you are above it you will need something like this instead:
    jar -cf test.jar com\*.class com\subfolder1\*.class com\subfoler2\*.class
But either way don't just copy and past this. Think about what is does so that you can make it work for you.
Also, you might want to look into using Ant if you are going to be building this a lot.

  • Jar only specific file types

    Hi Folks
Is there any option to feed my requirement ?
    I have below folder structure
    acme/hmtl/1.html
    acme/html/2.html
    acme/html/3.css
    acme/css/2.css
    acme/css/1.css
    acme/css/3.html
I want to create jar which should contain only html files. But the recurssive folder structure can extend to any number. And the jar should contain the exact folder structure same as source. I need to execute the command from parent folder level and it should jar all the html files in same folder structure...Any luck :(

Your best bet - and something that's a good idea anyway - is to get hold of, and learn to use, Apache Ant. It'll do what you need, and a lot more.

  • Exporting a composition with Ai vectors

What is the best format to export a composition containing Illustrator vector layers? I used to use Quicktime, but this setting doesn't seem to work as well anymore in CC.

    Hey there!
I'm with Dave on this one, don't expect miracles out of PAL DV. However, if your on Mac, I would suggest Quicktime and Apple ProRes 422 codec. I usually use this to get good results out of a render.
You can also try Adobe Media Encoder and go for a h.264 with a good bitrate.
Now, these facts are not backed by any hard evidence with numbers haha, it's just what I usually go for and it works fine
    Good luck!

  • Process only some files

    Hi Friends,
    I had a new requirement.
There are 2 systems sending files to XI.
First system will send a file to XI.
This File will contain only the file names which must be processed from the second system.
Then XI must pick only those files from the second system.
Then these files will be processed and delivered to other system.
Is it possible without using BPM.
If yes pls let me know.
Even using BPM also pls let me know the design.
    Thanks in advance.

    this isnt a easy scenario
    anyway your design should be as follows;
    1. use file sender cc and read the first file.
    2. in the data you will get all the file names you need to process.
    3. code a java proxy to connect to the other system. use the data from the first file to read all required files.
    4. continue to process as you need.
this would ideally need a BPM to make a sycn java proxy call.

  • Photoshop CS3 can't do lowercase type-only large and small caps

    Photoshop CS3, G5 PowerMac Dual 2GHz w/ 7GB RAM
A weird Photoshop problem: using the type tool, I can only produce type in large-and-small-caps, as opposed to upper and lower case. I can't generate any lowercase text. I've tried all the usual diagnostic tools: trashing the prefs seemed to work at first, but it's destructive of other stuff I don't want to lose, and anyway the problem came back after a while. I tried the Phantom User, and learned that the problem is tied to my User Identity, i.e., the problem doesn't exist in other User identities, but how do I make use of that information? I considered migrating to a new user identity, but I would have to go through every single appliciation, blah blah blah. So: does anybody have a quick, elegant solution to this, or is this a problem that has suddenly cropped up elsewhere? I'm not crippled by it, thanks to Illustrator CS3, but it's a convenience that I miss. And how do I trash the PS prefs without losing my brush tool presets?

  • Images should grow or shrink when the user chooses a larger or smaller font size in ADE.

    Hi All,
I use percentage values (in "width" attribute within "img" element) for image that should grow or shrink when the user
chooses a larger or smaller font size. The adjustment affects not only the size of the text but also images but the images
are getting distorted or blurred when user chooses larger font size in Adobe Digital Editions.
Can anyone, please guide me; how to get non-distorted and non-blur images in epub package?
If I directly use images, without svg format i.e. png or jpg files, then images get overlapped on body-text in two column display in ADE.
    OR
if I directly use jpg or png with width attribute varying in percentage value then image shrinks and grows as user chooses smaller and larger font size but the problem of distorted image remains as it is

    Hi DenisonDoc,
There is no option right now to set properties globally primarily for Text fields. You may make sure fields doesn't contain anything.
Select all the text filed from the form and right click any of the selected field make sure all of them are selected choose properties --> Appearance there you can choose Font Size and Font type.
    - End users cant change size and type of font. It is up to designer.

  • A more efficient way to assure that a string value contains only numbers?

    Hi ,
    I'm using Oracle 9.2.0.6.
I was curious to know if there was any way I could write a more efficient query to determine if a string value contains only numbers.
Here's my current query. This SQL is from a sub query in a Join clause.
    select distinct cta.CUSTOMER_TRX_ID, to_number(cta.SALES_ORDER) SALES_ORDER
                from ra_customer_trx_lines_all cta
                where length(cta.SALES_ORDER) = 6
                and cta.SALES_ORDER is not null
                and substr(cta.SALES_ORDER,1,1) in('1','2','3','4','5','6','7','8','9','0')
                and substr(cta.SALES_ORDER,2,1) in('1','2','3','4','5','6','7','8','9','0')
                and substr(cta.SALES_ORDER,3,1) in('1','2','3','4','5','6','7','8','9','0')
                and substr(cta.SALES_ORDER,4,1) in('1','2','3','4','5','6','7','8','9','0')
                and substr(cta.SALES_ORDER,5,1) in('1','2','3','4','5','6','7','8','9','0')
and substr(cta.SALES_ORDER,6,1) in('1','2','3','4','5','6','7','8','9','0')This is a string where I'm finding A-Z-a-z characters and '/' and '-' characters in all 6 positions, plus there are values that are longer than 6 characters. That's what the length(cta.SALES_ORDER) = 6 is for. Also, of course. some cells are NULL.
So the question is, is there a more efficient way to screen out only the values in this field that are 6 character numbers or is what I have the best I can do?
    Thanks,

I appreciate all of your very helpfull workarounds. The cost is a little better in all cases than my original where clause.
To address the discussion that's popped up about design from this question, I can say a few things that should clear , at least, my situation up.
First of all this custom quoting , purchase order , and sales order entry system WAS written by a bunch a of 'bad' coders who didn't document their work and then left. We don't even have an ER diagram
The whole project that I'm only a small part of is literally trying to put Humpty Dumpty together again and then move it from a bad custom solution into Oracle Applications.
We're rebuilding, documenting, and doing ETL. This is one of your prototypical projects from hell.
It's a huge database project so we're taking small bites as a time. Hopefully, somewhere right before Armageddon hits, this thing will be complete.
But until then,..., well,..., you know the drill.
    Thanks Again.

  • Is there any performance value to making a tablespace READ ONLY?

In 9i, if I were to set a tablespace which only contains data to be reported over - is there any value in making it READ ONLY other than "safety" of the data? I am particularly interested to know if it can increase performance.
    Thanks

When you say safety, you are partly correct, because data cannot be deleted, but it can be dropped, check the below SQL statements.
With regard to performance, yes you will gain some. For better performance while accessing data in a read-only tablespace, you can issue a query that accesses all of the blocks of the tables in the tablespace just before making it read-only. A simple query, such as SELECT COUNT (*), executed against each table ensures that the data blocks in the tablespace can be subsequently accessed most efficiently. This eliminates the need for Oracle to check the status of the transactions that most recently modified the blocks.

You may not like my answer but don't use Flash.  Most web designers gave up on it long ago because the world's most popular web devices (iPhone, iPad, iTouch, Android, etc..) don't support Flash and never will.
If you want to reach a wider audience with fewer problems, use an image map and jQuery maphighlight script.

  • Make Text and Other Items Larger or Smaller - Default? (related to screen resolution)

In Windows 7, when you go to set the screen resolution, there is a link to "Make Text and Other Items Larger or Smaller."  The default I've always seen is is "Smaller - 100%" in our deployments.  For some reason, after my new deployment that
I'm working on, it is set to "Medium - 125% as the default."
This changed when I imported the display drivers needed for the HP8440 laptop the deployment is going on. Before, Windows was just using a generic driver that maxed at 640x480 and the user had to manually install the drivers. Now that I've imported the drivers
into the deployment, the default resolution is 1920x1200 as it should be, but this one last default is making it look like there is a smaller resolution.
Is there any way, in the deployment, to set this option to "Smaller - 100%" as the default?
This is what I am seeing after Windows loads for the first time:

I get "Invalid syntax" when I try to run that. I've gone through the help on the REG command, and everything seems to be in order. I also opened CMD as administrator. I've tried some different variations on the command (quotes around the path, etc)
but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?
You're getting an invalid syntax since it contains a space betweeen 'Windows' and 'NT' when using command lines, spaces will break the commands to be executed since it thinks that spaces are delimiters for syntax value's.
    REG ADD "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontDPI" /v LogPixels /t REG_DWORD /d 0x60 /f
Edit; The thread starter had success with using the following path instead "HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop"
It should work like it's written above using quotes around the entire path. Without the quotes you'll receive a syntax error. However unless the command is executed in an elevated command prompt you'll get an access is denied error. And finally the /f switch
is required to override the entry without prompt, since if the command if executed in an elevated command prompt it will detect the current value and ask whether you want to overwrite it or not.
P.S. I verified if it executes properly.
    Kind regards,

  • Find folders & subfolders containing only '.DS_Store'

Through Terminal or otherwise, how can I find all subfolders in a folder/directory containing only the item ‘.DS_Store’?
I want to remove these.  I’ve tried deleting .DS_Store through different Terminal commands and then using Spotlight to find files containing zero (and less than 1) items and have located some, but not all.
    Thank you!

I'm just keeping things factual, I'm sorry if you took it as a negative comment.  It is true that the OP wanted to remove (otherwise) empty folders.
So in my ~/Downloads/ folder, I do not want to leave all the folders there  I download files for work daily, and they are numerous in number and usually large.  I have a script which deletes files accessed over 60 days ago, and empty folders.  I have thousands of folders that have had their contents removed, but the directory is still cluttered.  Eventually you actually can run out of inodes on a disk, so it's fine to delete folders in this case.
This thread helped me figure out what I needed and it now works as I hoped.

  • How to keep alignment in Windows LARGE and SMALL fonts

For years, I fought with LabVIEW, trying to keep things looking decent in both Windows LARGE and SMALL font sizes.
By this, I mean Settings - Control Panels - Display - Settings - Advanced - General - Font Size
I love to use large fonts - I run my display at 1600x1200 and it just looks better.
But if you plop an indicator on a panel in LARGE fonts, save it, then open it with SMALL fonts in effect, it looks horrible.
N.I. Doesn't care about this - just look at how ugly their own examples get when viewed in LARGE fonts.
So I developed a method to make the bottom of the label text line up with the bottom of the numerical text, whether in LARGE fonts or SMALL.
Click here for examples. Basically, I turn OFF the SIZE to TEXT attribute and right-justify the label (if on the left of the numeric).
This works OK, except I have just discovered that it depends on the text being the default size.
If I have a 17-pt numeric with a 17-point label, then they both appear as 13-pt when I switch to SMALL fonts - great -- they're still aligned.
But if I have a 17-point numeric with a 16-pt label, when I switch to SMALL, the numeric shrinks to 13, but the label stays at 16, and is thus vertically misaligned with the numeric.
So how can I have a 17-pt numeric with a 13-pt label, and have them BOTH shrink when I switch to SMALL fonts?
I suppose I could use property nodes, and detect the switch myself, but I have 50+ of these on a single VI to do - that would be ugly to watch the labels jumping around.
I suppose I could have two VIs - one for LARGE fonts and one for SMALL, but I don't want to duplicate th
    e code.
    Any other ideas?

It is true that we don't have a
solution.  It isn't that we don't care, but the solution choices stink.
Well, I'll stand by my opinion that N.I. doesn't care - when using the default app font, there *-IS-* a solution - the link in my original post points to a page that I show my employees on how to solve the problem. It is solvable, for the case of using the default font and size. Yet N.I. uses the default font and size, but LOOK HOW THEIR EXAMPLES APPEAR (see attached files). This is how the example software looks, out of the box. These are not ancient examples, either.
It is NOT my opinion that, because there apparently is no solution for non-standard sizes, the stuff looking ugly is NI's fault.
But when a solution DOES exist for standard sizes, why they don't apply it is beyond me. Even some of the LabVIEW dialogs suffer from this.

  • Is FileVault necessary if disk contains only the OS?

I have two disks on my MacBook.
The first one is an SSD that contains only OS X. The second one is a regular HD which contains my home folder.
This second HD is an encrypted partition, so it can't be opened without a password — and if you plug it into another computer, it won't be readable without that password.
My question is: should I use FileVault in the SSD, even if my home folder is already encrypted?
If someone steals my MacBook, they won't be able to open any of my personal files (since they're in the encrypted home folder).
Would they be able to get anything useful and harmful from just the SSD that contains OS X?
