Performance problems upgrading from 2.3.10 to 2.4.11

I have written code (in Java) which tracks "delta-versions" of XML files (labelled with an id attribute) in different sandboxes (sandbox attribute). For example if we set sandbox "B" as a sub-sandbox of sandbox "A" we can write the following pseudo code :-
for (int i=0; i<1000000; i++) {
// add <object sandbox="A" id="i" /> to the container
for (int j=0; j<10000; j++) {
// add <object sandbox="B" id="i" /> to the container
This represents a system with a million objects (in A) of which 10000 in B have been "checked out". The physical checked-out sandbox would thus consist of all elements in B plus all elements in A which have not been checked out to B. This can be achieved as follows.
let $A := container(...)/object[@sandbox="A"]
let $B := container(...)/object[@sandbox="B"]
let $base = $B union ($A except $A{./@id = $B/@id])
@sandbox and @id are appropriately indexed.
$base is thus a nice definition of an appropriately sandboxed environment which can then be used as the universe of objects in a sandboxed XQuery environment. For example to fetch the unique object with id = "ID" we can write:
$base[@id = "ID"]
Unfortunately, for the above test query, version 2.3 executes in under 0.3 seconds on my workstation. The same query in the same environment in 2.4 takes almost 15 seconds.
Could you please let me know what is happening here and how I might be able to fix the problem.

The experiment is "clean" in the sense that everything is created from scratch in each environment and indexed with the same indexes.
The queryplan is as follows:

  • Problems upgrading from OS 8.1 to OS 9.2.2

Thank you for any help you can give me.
I have some additional problems upgrading from OS 8.1 to OS 9.2.2.
    1. The keyboard is typing symbols, not normal letters. When I go to Key Caps it shows symbols and not normal letters. When I was running OS 8.1 the keyboard typed fine.
    2. I also am have trouble with windows closing as I open new windows. Everytime I click to open a new folder the old folder closes.
    3. Copying files. When I drag a file it makes a new copy on the desktop.
How did I goof up going from OS 8.1 directly to OS 9.2.2?
All these problems were fine while running under OS 8.1.
I believe this computer came with OS.8.6 installed on it but I got it with OS 8.1.
Any help you can pass on to me would be greatly appreciated.
I am typing this on my Dell PC.
    Thanks a million,
    Jim

Easy, I just insert my OS 8.1 System Software into the tray loading CD and choose it as the start up disk in the control panel. I restart the computer and it is running off of OS 8.1 instead on OS 9.2.2. I looked for another keyboard today at a used computer store but they didn't have one for the iMac. I need to find one as all my research indicates that it is somehow connected to the option key. But then again everything works fine under OS 8.1. Quite a puzzle to me. Again thanks for the page tip on Firmware. Jim - PS, I did pick up a zip drive that connects to USB ports.

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

will i have problem upgrading from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to Maverick ?

Impossible to know. But I would make a backup before doing so, just in case. I would also do the following:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.

If you wish to save yourself a lot time should you need to reinstall Mavericks at some point in the future then see the following:
Make Your Own Mavericks, Mountain/Lion Installer
After downloading the installer you must first save the Install Mac OS X application. After the installer downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
       2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the leftside list. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list.
Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
Make your own Mavericks flash drive installer using the Mavericks tool:
You can also create a Mavericks flash drive installer via the Terminal. Mavericks has its own built-in installer maker you use via the Terminal:
You will need a freshly partitioned and formatted USB flash drive with at least 8GBs. Leave the name of the flash drive at the system default, "Untitled." Do not change this name. Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder. Copy this entire command line after the prompt in the Terminal's window:
         sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume
         /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed to the screen so be careful to enter it correctly. Press RETURN, again.
Wait for the process to complete which will take quite some time. When completed it would be wise to test the installer by checking that it boots the computer and is then ready for installation.

  • Asset query execution performance after upgrade from 4.6C to ECC 6.0+EHP4

    Hi,guys
I am encounted a weird problems about asset query execution performance after upgrade to ECC 6.0.
Our client had migrated sap system from 4.6c to ECC 6.0. We test all transaction code and related stand report and query.
Everything is working normally except this asset depreciation query report. It is created based on ANLP, ANLZ, ANLA, ANLB, ANLC table; there is also some ABAP code for additional field.
This report execution costed about 6 minutes in 4.6C system; however it will take 25 minutes in ECC 6.0 with same selection parameter.
At first, I am trying to find some difference in table index ,structure between 4.6c and ECC 6.0,but there is no difference about it.
i am wondering why the other query reports is running normally but only this report running with too long time execution dump messages even though we do not make any changes for it.
    your reply is very appreciated
    Regards
    Brian

    Thanks for your replies.
I check these notes, unfortunately it is different our situation.
Our situation is all standard asset report and query (sq01) is running normally except this query report.
I executed se30 for this query (SQ01) at both 4.6C and ECC 6.0.
I find there is some difference in select sequence logic even though same query without any changes.
I list there for your reference.

But it changed to first select ANLA,and open cursor ANLP,then select  ANLC,ANLB,ANLZ,at last fetch ANLP.
Probably,it is the real reason why it is running long time in ECC 6.0.
Is there any changes for query selcection logic(table join function) in ECC 6.0.

  • Problems upgrading from Dreamweaver 4 to CS3

The website I manage is www.episcopal-dallas.org. Today, I
upgraded from Dreamweaver 4 to CS3. In Design view, I can edit
about half of the pages, but those of the other half (including the
index/home page) have gray backgrounds (with a few exceptions that
have white), and, although I can make changes in the code, I cannot
edit them in Design view. The cursor forms the universal "nicht"
sign — circle with a diagonal slash through it. I can't find
any commonality between the ones that I can edit and the ones I
    can't.
Also, on some of the pages, the navigation panel that is
supposed to be on the left side has ended up above the text of the
main body of the page. Manuals I have say nothing about upgrading
    existing websites.

    Of course it does.

You should never have to do this.
I hope your understanding of this doesn't cause further
    problems for you.

  • Problems upgrading from 10.2.8 to 10.3.9

I'm having trouble upgrading from 10.2.8 to 10.3.9.. The first install CD won't boot, I get a grey screen and no "blue OS X sign" it just stays grey.. And here is briefly the history of what happened to get me to this point..
This problem is on an iMac (summer 2000, the one with a slot loader). We (my wife's Mac) got it used and it was running OS 9.0.4 (She) wanted to run 10 and picked up 10.1 on ebay and installed it.. No problems there as 10.1 came with a boatload of system CDs including Classic 9.2.2.
Then, after awhile and seeing 10.1 was too old for various software on peripherial devices.. I had some Jag 10.2 CDs lying around and we installed that and did a 10.2.8 upgrade.. Now it's time to install 10.3.9 and when it wouldn't install, a friend told us it was a firmware update problem.. Okay I went to the firmware update page for this iMac model and read the instructions.. But one caveat was in order to install a firmware update on an iMac which came with OS 9.0.4 at least 9.1 has to be installed to complete the update.
Here's the tricky part , and it may sound really weird, but please bare with me; my wife had originally partitioned the 10GB HDD into 3 partitions and 9.2.2 was on one of them.. Sofar so good. I installed 10.2 and then an upgrade to 10.2.8. Then recently she told me that she had DELETED 9.2.2 and intended to install 10.3 on that partition and run 10.2 on the other one.... so she repartitioned the HD into 2 partitions.. with 10.2 on disk 1 and leaving disk 2 completely empty.. So, whew, when we tried to upgrade to 10.3 and nothing happened I thought this may be the cause of the problem.. A missing system.
I tried in vain to reinstall 9 from the original CDs (by holding down the "C" key) and when I tried to install it the finder coudn't find a volume to install it on. All there was on the screen was the CD icon..
Maybe I should've done the firmware upgrade before we installed 10.1.. But I didn't know I had to.. So, in anycase, it's now next to impossible to GO BACK to the starting line and reinstall 9.0.4 and do a reworking of the upgrades to 9.1 and 9.2 so I can properly do the firmware update and finally go the distance and install 10.3.9!
Is everyone confused yet? If not any helpful advice to get me out of this mess would be helpful.
    Rob

cornellius your post was *Very Helpful.
    I have the installation CDs for 9.0.4, 9.2.2, 10.1 and 10.2..
I booted from the 9 CD and went to Disk Set Up and "initialised" the HD which placed a HD icon on the desktop. That resulted in a restoration of 9.0.4.. But I can't download the update, my DSL modem won't work with OS 9 minimum is 10.2. A little thing I forgot. Then I installed 9.2 since you can only do online firmware updates from 9.1 or higher.. I assume higher means 9.2.2.
I read on this support's firmware update page that if you boot from OS X (10.1 or 10.2?) and go to the menu and Disk Utilities on the installer CD you can get firmware updates there.. I booted from 10.1 and could not see how to do that. But, as you suggested, I can "Erase Disk" and "Install OS 9 Drivers," i.e., "Classic" (check box) and go from there.. I can do this with 10.2 as well.. Same procedure same result.. 10.2 will be installed with 9.2.2 running in the background.
But whether the firmware updates happen I'm not sure. As I stated above, this iMac had gone through two OS X upgrades, 10.1 then 10.2 and as I said somehow the Classic partition, 9.2.2, was deleted making it impossible to start up from OS 9. But I know once Classic is reinstalled with 10.2, I can do the firmware update.. and eventually install Panther.. Panther is a minimum requirement for iSale and, increasingly, other Mac software and the wife bought iSale to organize her ebay auctions.. so Panther it is.
Well this sounds like a hurry and wait or wake up and go to sleep situation.. Larry, Moe and Curly couldn't do a better job than I'm doing..
    Thanks for your help,
    Rob

  • Performance Testing - Upgrade from 4.6B to ECC6.0

    Hi,
We are doing an upgrade from SAP 4.6B to ECC6.0. I would like to know what would be the best approach for doing a performance test in an upgrade project. More specifically,
    1. What are the main components that need to be tested for performance?
    2. What are the important transaction codes/external applications (if any) that can be used to do performance testing in both 4.6B and ECC6.0? (ST05 or ST30 or something else?)
    3. Any best practice recommended by SAP for doing performance tests?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Reena

  • Problem upgrading from snow leopard 10.6.8 to mountain lion. Damaged partition.

Hi, here's my problem: I can't install ML and I can't go back to SL.
    This is the story:
    - trying to install ML on my iMac SL 10.6.8  >  error: HDD is damaged and can't be repaired.
    - trying to start up from original SL install disk  to return to the original state >  error: the contents of this disk can't be changed
    - trying to start up from 'start up disk HD osx 10.6.8'  >  error: you can't change the start up disk, start up disk couldn't gather enough information.
    - trying to start up in safe mode  >  the grey screen with the apple appears but nothing happens except that the computer runs warm.
    - using disk utilities:
-- first aid: verify disk: error: disc needs to be repaired. Click repair disk.  //  (but the repair disk button stays grey and can't be clicked.)
-- restore: when opening the time machine back up there are just files, no disk images or something like that.
-- erase: error: couldn't unmount the disk.  //  (probably because you can't erase a partition you are already using).
That about sums it up. All this is leaving me with a useless iMac.
We can't have that, can we?
    Please help. Thanks.

    Thanks Walter.
I just solved the problem myself. Here's what I did:
I used the 10.6.8 install disk to start the computer, in disk utilities I unmounted the partition with my OS ( HD MacIntosh ). Then I could erase the partition (I have up to date back ups of my files). After that I could install 10.6.8 again. After it is installed completely and I have run the apple software update I expect that installing ML won't be a problem anymore.
I advise anyone encountering the same problems to have a look at the posts in this community concerning the upgrade from snow leapard to lion because the same problems, and a lot of them, occured with this. Which, I think, is a sad thing.
    Minus points for Apple.

  • Problem upgrading from Photoshop CS2 to CS4 Extended

I purchased the retail box Photoshop CS4 Extended Upgrade (Windows) from a retail store ($349.99 + tax). I am upgrading from Photoshop CS2 and this is the version that the Adobe website says to purchase for this upgrade path. The problem is that CS4 doesn't see my installed, working, activated, and registered CS2 installation so it brings up the next screen offering to allow me to install it as a trial version OR list my qualifying product and serial number. The way that it offers to let me enter my qualifying product is via a drop down box with a single entry of CS3 Extended. No way of entering my CS2 there and it doesn't like my CS2 serial number entered with a CS3 product being shown there (says it isn't a valid CS3 serial number...of course it isn't). Does anyone know how to get this thing to install? Adobe tech support is gone until Monday and then I'll be at work, unable to try anything they might suggest.
Why does Adobe make upgrades so painful? I remember CS2 was a PITA and took Adobe tech support a week to figure out how to get it to install.

No, this shouldn't be extended to extended (I wouldn't expect to shell out $350 twice for extended). This is Adobe P/N 65015396 which their website says is for PhotoShop CS, CS2, CS3, and CS3 upgrades and retails for $350. The face of the box is identified as Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended Windows and the side of the box only says that I must have an "eligible older version of Adobe or Macromedia software." It also says to check the website, which says this P/N is what to buy for my upgrade path. A mess? YES!!!

  • Problems upgrading from 10.2.8 to 10.3 Please help

Hi, first time here. I'm trying to upgrade from osx 10.2.8 to 3.0 Panther, but each time i try to upgrade or archive and install my mac freezes and the log says that newer versions of iMovie iCal iPhoto & isync packages are already installed as i downloaded them previously. Is there any way round this to upgrade to 3.0 without losing any files or having to erase and install? I'm quite new to Macs as well so please keep it quite simple.
    Thank you

    Dan:
You can use Pacifist to uninstall the already updated item that is preventing the upgrade. Then you follow the process below.
Here are some suggestions on installation:
    Panther: Archive and Install
If you do not have your original install disks or a Full Retail Version you can get one at AppleRescue or on eBay relatively inexpensively.
If you have the right disks here is what you do.
    1. Warning: Although we will use Archive and Install there is always a risk something can go wrong. As a precaution back up your User Folder and any apps you can't afford to lose.
    2. Check to see if you have the latest Firmware Update. (Post back if you can't locate the appropriate update for your computer) Note: You must be in OS 9 to update firmware.
    3. Boot from the install disk holding down the C key.
    4. Once booted go to the Installer Menu and open Disk Utility.
To do a clean install see Notes below
    5. Run Repair Disk. If there are problems, run it until no problems are reported. If it reports that it can't repair the problems you might need TechTool Pro or Disk Warrior.
    6. While still in Disk Utility run Repair Permissions.
    7. Quit Disk Utility and open the Installer.
    8. Choose the option to Archive and Install. This saves your data in a Previous Systems folder, which you can retrieve after installation.
    9. You might want to Customize and deselect Foreign Language Translations and Additional Printer Drivers to save Hard Drive space.
    10. Proceed with installation.
    11. After installation is complete computer will restart. Follow prompts and set up computer.
    12. Open Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility) and Repair Permissions.
    13. Go online and download updates, or go to Software Update under the Apple Menu and update your OS.
    14. Transfer your User Folder from Previous Systems folder.
    NOTE (below):
    To do a clean install:
Follow steps 1 through 4 above.
    a. In Disk Utility select your HD in left panel and Erase in main panel.
    b. Be sure Volume Format is Mac OS Extended and the checkbox Mac OS 9 Drivers Installed is checked.
    c. Select Options at bottom left in Erase panel. WARNING! This procedure will erase the contents of your entire HDD. Be sure you back up anything you cannot afford to lose!
Select option to zero all data. Click OK. Click Erase.
This process will take a while, so this is a good time to take a long walk or call your mother
    d. After HDD is erased resume at No. 7 above.
Post back with any questions or comments.
    Good luck.

  • Major problems upgrading from 10.3 to 10.4

I upgraded from 10.3 to 10.4, and all my mail save for the last 2 weeks disappeared. Those emails that did successfully survive the upgrade all contained the message "...has not been downloaded from the server". So, as was suggested in this forum, I rebuilt the mailbox. All my old mail disappeared after I did this. Needless to say, this is not an improvement. I'm unsure how to recover my old mail - anyone have any ideas?

    Hi Pitir and Allan,
Pitir's problem might or might not have to do with truly overfull mailboxes. I have had similar problems when attempting to migrate to the Mail.app 2.0.5 (the one coming with 10.4.3).
After a good few hours of wasted time I now refuse to accept the overfull email explanation as universally applicable. This is not intended in any way rude, Allan
I have had large and small mailboxes show this message. A large one was ~1800 messages totaling ~43 or so MB. A small one only contained around 100 or so messages and still had the problem.
Installed 10.4.3 cleanly on a new disk. I copied Mail.app preferences and address book (preferences and application support files). So far so good.
Attempted importing my email into the new Mail.app in various ways:
    1) Copy the old mailbox folder + preferences etc. from my 10.3.9 disk onto the new disk and let Mail.app converte upon startup -> lots of "message not downloaded, go online" style messages.
    2) Completely empty the Mail.app 2.0.5 mail folders and start it empty. Then select the 'Import' command from the file menu. This imported everything nicely. However, running Mail.app the next day I found it had -- without telling me -- lost a lot of messages. Some of them -- I am 100% sure had been imported OK. They just vanished overnight in-betweeen two Mail.app launches. There were no error messages or warnings.
In my experience, Mail.app 2.0.5 is not trustworthy. All I can do is recommend avoiding it. Switch to Thunderbird or something else for the time being. I hope Mail.app after 2.0.5 will fix this. I don't really know how to test that (and be confident) then, though.
Mail.app 2.0.5 is the biggest disappointment for me so far (and I very much hope the biggest disappointment ever) as a long term user of Mac OS. It is really quite shocking.
The blood is still on the boil a bit...
    Cheers,
    Joerg

  • Problems upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard

Hopefully I'm in the right place. This is my first Apple and my first problem. Recently upgrade from Leopard to SL and have had problems ever since. Mail, TM, Safari, etc. I have searched for explanations, but unfortunately can't find answers I understand. I have MS and my cognitive functions aren't what they use to be. I have seen suggestions about clean installs, restoring from TM, cloning HD then re-installing, etc... I would love to stay with SL but need it to work, so would a clean install do the trick? If so, how do I do a "clean install"? Should I just go back to Leopard and what would be the best way? I backed up with TM before I upgraded. I have had my MBP since fall of 2007 and it was starting to slow down before the upgrade so I wouldn't mind the clean install of either OSX. Any help would be appreciated.

since you backed up before you upgraded you can safely do the following.
boot from the snow leopard DVD.
start Disk Utility from the Utilities menu and erase the main hard drive.
Quit disk utility and proceed with the install of Snow leopard. that's what many people call a "clean install".
once the install is finished and you restart the computer you'll get to Setup Assistant. it will give you an option to migrate your data from a TM backup. you can choose to do so although it's possible that this will reintroduce the problems you are having now. another option is to skip the migration at this point (you can do it later) and set up the computer.
now you can restore your data from the TM backup. you can use Migration Assistant (it's in /Applications/Utilities) or you can restore things by hand if using Migration assistant reintroduces the problems you are having now. you can do something in between too. you can use Migration Assistant to migrate just your user data but now system files or Applications and reinstall the applications by hand.

  • Problems upgrading from Logic 6.4 to Logic Studio

    I recently had my hard drive die, so i am now in the process of reloading all my software.  I started with Logic 6.4 years ago and have been purchasing the upgrades ever since. I first installed Logic 6.4 with the dongle inserted than i installed Logic studio. I than updated the software.  However, now Logic will not open. I get the prompt;
"Upgrading from Logic 6.4 to Logic Studio running 10.6.7 2.66 i7 17 inch running  problem. After install Logic will not open. Updated all the software. On a Macbook Pro"
Is there something i'm doing wrong.
    thanks for any help.

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7. Doing this costs money; you may find it easier and cheaper to upgrade to Yosemite, which is free.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

  • Are their problems upgrading from windows 7 to windows 8 on HP touchsmart 320 pc

Does anyone know if their are problems upgrading windows 7 to windows 8 on my touchsmart 320 PC and if I decide to upgrade can I remove the windows app and go back to windows 7 without problems?

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and/or product number of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.
The above requested information can be found on the back or bottom of the computer. Please do not include the serial number. Please enter the model/product information into HP's Online Consumer Support page and/or post it here for our review.
    THIS is HP's position on Windows 8 support and any HP computer not originally shipped with Windows 8;
Not all Windows 8 features may be available on all PCs.
Your particular experience with Windows 8 will be determined by the capabilities of your PC.
HP is providing upgrade instructions and drivers will be available for most Windows 7 systems sold after 1st October 2011.
If you want to restore the original operating system after upgrading, you must create HP recovery media before you upgrade.
Please note that if you purchased your system prior to October 1, 2011, HP has not tested these PCs or developed Windows 8 upgrade instructions or drivers for them. Upgrading such systems may be difficult or impossible.

    Screen Resolution Requirements
    Limitations with DVD playback software
    Limitations with Blu-ray playback software
    Limitations with TV Tuner software
Secure Boot & other UEFI dependent features
    Limitations with touch screen capabilities;
Windows 7 (and Windows Vista) PCs with touch screens will not have full Windows 8 touch capabilities after upgrade.
HP PCs with touch input hardware designed for Windows 7 (or Windows Vista) will provide a comparable experience for only two touch point applications after the upgrade to Windows 8. HP Windows PCs with touch input hardware will not support Windows 8 applications that require more than two simultaneous touch points. Additionally, Windows 8 edge swipes may not be available due to the recessed bezel on HP touch systems shipped with Windows 7 (and Window Vista).
HP TouchSmart Magic Canvas and HP TouchSmart applications are not compatible with Windows 8 and must be uninstalled before upgrading. Note that content created using the TouchSmart applications such as Graphitti will not be available after upgrading.
I did a "clean" install of Windows 8 on my HP TouchSmart 320-1120m CTO Desktop Computer and had NO issues at all. If you do an actual "upgrade", please be aware that much of the HP value-added software that came with the computer will have to be uninstalled before doing the upgrade. You may also run into other minor issues with other software already on the computer. The only way to go back to Windows 7, is to use the HP Recovery Discs you should have already created. If you haven't yet created these discs, do so BEFORE upgrading to Windows 8.
If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
