Performance while importing

Question

While importing using iTunes, CPU is pegged at 100%. Using any other program is painfully slow, making my computer essentially useless while an import is in progress.
Any way to lower the priority on iTunes, or otherwise increase responsiveness while importing?
BTW, I just upgraded to 5.0, but 4.x had the same problem.

I am quite confused about where the source and destination databases are :
However as far as import is concerned, to speed up you can try the following:
1.Import is an insert intensive operation Hence your db_block_buffers should be large enough.
2.check if you had row chaining in the provious database.you may need to increase the block size or alter the pctused and pctfree for thie table before inserting the row.
3.You can set a large buffer_length for the import
4.do not specify commit=y while running the import.
5.Check if the database is in archive log mode and if it is then does it archive automatically?also is there enough free space to archive?
6.create a large rollback segment and keep only that segment online while importing.
Else the next thing that you can do is to issue a query on waits when the import is running.
