Performing backup of SQL via backup interface

Hello all,
First of all , let me tell you that i don't have much knowledge regarding SQL so, excuse me in advance for any stupid questions.
Here is my situation:
I have SQL 2005 Standolne server. On the server there are two interfaces(NICs) one is so called production(prod) and backup(bkp).
The PROD is for main communication and it's with assigned FQDN - XYZ. The other one is for backup traffic and it's with FQDN - XYZ-b. The IPs are , PROD - xxx.xxx.1.xxx, BKP - xxx.xxx.2.xxx
I'm using a HP Data Protector software , version 7.03, with latest patched installed on the backup software.
Unfortunately when i'm trying to create a backup(there are 3 ways for authentication - Integrated, Windows and SQL server)  with the BKP interface i receive following error:
*RETVAL*8010
The user name which is used by the bkp software is added into the SQL server as admin, also it's with local admin from OS point of view.
So my question is , are there any way to perform backup via XYZ-B interface ?
Thank you in advance !!!

Hello,
Seems to be more a HP Data Protector issue, see

  • Error restoring SQL 2008 R2 DB into SQL 2012: BACKUP LOG cannot be performed because there is no current database backup.

    I have a SQL 2008 R2 database that I am trying to move to 2012.  Made a full backup of the database in 2008 R2.  Recovery model is Simple, compatibility level is 2008  Went to 2012, created a dummy database, did Tasks--> Restore -->
    Database , located the backup file, selected it, changed the file locations and tried to restore the backup (with overwrite option), got the following error:
    BACKUP LOG cannot be performed because there is no current database backup.
    This is a simple task that has always worked in 2008 R2.  Does anyone know what the problem is and a possible solution?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    This error occurs when the database recovery model has been changed to Simple and/or the recovery model has been changed back to Full but a full backup has not been performed since the change.
      If a full backup has been performed, the following conditions will require that another full backup be taken:
     · The recovery model had been changed without taking a full backup
     · A SQL maintenance plan task had changed the recovery model (reindexing can cause this)
     · A backup specifying TRUNCATE_ONLY had been run on the database
     · The database was detached from another server and attached to the current server
    Additionally, if we take full database backup after the Database is set to readonly, Then transaction log backup we will end up with this error. This is expected behavior. I have list an example within the link below.
    Please check above conditions and fix your issue, if you have any concern, please let me know.
    Example:
    BACKUP LOG cannot be performed because there is no current database backup.
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/b5c36e60-836f-4c9e-b9d7-3fb3f3ee4d37/backup-log-cannot-be-performed-because-there-is-no-current-database-backup

  • I was trying to sync my latest photos from iphone onto iphoto but pressed restore instead of sync. Now it's deleted my latest photos taken a week ago. Is there a way to get back those photos via backup somehow?

    I was trying to sync my latest photos from iphone onto iphoto but pressed "restore" instead of "sync". Now it's erased my latest photos taken on my iphone a week ago and erased music saved in itunes library. Is there a way to find these photos and music via backup?

    Thanks so much Meg. Unfortunately, iTunes is the program I use to perform syncing. I don't really have other outside options. It is also the location of the backup I would use to restore my phone, and my only way to reclaim important data. I am concerned that, since the last backup occurred when the "other" bar was only moderately huge (around 29G I think), that a backup would replicate the problem back onto my phone.
    My contacts, etc. are all in address book and the calendar app on my Mac.  As far as I know, iTunes is the way to get them back, but iTunes is where the problem is.
    Any thoughts on this?

  • DPM 2012 R2 Hyper-V backup of SQL server VM

    Hello!
    I have a question about using DPM 2012 R2 in Hyper-V 2012 R2 cluster and backing up Windows 2003 VM, that has SQL 2008 installed.
    When i use VM, host level backup with DPM2012 R2, would it trigger a full DB backup on SQL server or not?
    Problem is, that we are using SQL (maintanance plans) for backing up databases and doing transaction logs backup.
    I want to back up the whole VM, but i want to be sure, that this would not mess up SQL backup inside the VM?
    Is it possible, that i wont install DPM agent inside the SQL server VM? But can i then still restore files from the VHD/X or only entire VM?

    Hi,
    Apply the following registry entry in the GUEST virtual machine so application logs are not truncated by host level backups.
    Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Virtualization\VssRequestor
    Name: BackupType
    Type: REG_DWORD
    Value: 1
    If this registry entry is created and its value is set to 1 , application backup will not be affected by the virtual machine backup operation on the server that is running Hyper-V. If this registry entry does not exist, or if its value is 0 , then host level
    backups will truncate logs in the guest.
    Yes - you can perform item level recovery for files inside the .vhd by double-clicking the .vhd while browsing to restore the VM.  That will mound the .vhd and allow you to copy files out without having to restore the entire .vhd file.

  • Backups/Archivelogs triggered via DB13 hitting errors at TSM(Tivoli) level.

    We are encountering problem with our redolog/online backups that are triggered
    via DB13 whereby we will
    receive this error message in the logs before a failure message:
    BKI5014E: Tivoli Storage Manager Error:
    ANS1087E (RC106) Access to the specified file or directory is denied
    We have checked with the OS side and it seems that the permissions for
    all the accesses are fine. However, when we tried to manually enter the
    BRARCHIVE/BRBACKUP command in the OS (AIX) the thing seems to work fine. Although we can trigger it manually in the OS, but we cannot track it through
    DB13, or even schedule it, as it will continue to hit the said access error.
    Thanks.

    Dear Kelvin,
    Please reply whether you were able to solve the issue of scheduling a backup from DB13 in SAP?
    We are also facing the same issue, we are able to take the backup from BRTOOLS in TSM.
    We tried changing the permissions of BRTOOLS utilities from /sapmnt/SID/exe path. Even then the backup fails with the same message, please find below the logs.

  • SQL online backup.

    Hi all,
    How can i initiate the online backup for SQL database.
    and please provide me the sql commands for sql backup.
    Thanks in advance.
    vinnu.

    You can schedule the backup via the SQL Server gui.
    right click the DB name and select backup from the resulting list.
    run though and tick the boxes, set the timings and days. Save.
    Then to see the SQL goto the SQL agent, job, and open the job you saved above.
    Look in/at the steps.
    This will give you the code.
    However sample code is below
    --This Transact-SQL script creates a backup job and calls sp_start_job to run the job.
    -- Create job.
    -- You may specify an e-mail address, commented below, and/or pager, etc.
    -- For more details about this option or others, see SQL Server Books Online.
    USE msdb
    EXEC sp_add_job @job_name = 'myTestBackupJob',
        @enabled = 1,
        @description = 'myTestBackupJob',
        @owner_login_name = 'sa',
        @notify_level_eventlog = 2,
        @notify_level_email = 2,
        @notify_level_netsend =2,
        @notify_level_page = 2
    --  @notify_email_operator_name = 'email name'
    go
    -- Add job step (backup data).
    USE msdb
    EXEC sp_add_jobstep @job_name = 'myTestBackupJob',
        @step_name = 'Backup msdb Data',
        @subsystem = 'TSQL',
        @command = 'BACKUP DATABASE msdb TO DISK = ''c:\msdb.dat_bak''',
        @on_success_action = 3,
        @retry_attempts = 5,
        @retry_interval = 5
    go
    -- Add job step (backup log).
    USE msdb
    EXEC sp_add_jobstep @job_name = 'myTestBackupJob',
        @step_name = 'Backup msdb Log',
        @subsystem = 'TSQL',
        @command = 'BACKUP LOG msdb TO DISK = ''c:\msdb.log_bak''',
        @on_success_action = 1,
        @retry_attempts = 5,
        @retry_interval = 5
    go
    -- Add the target servers.
    USE msdb
    EXEC sp_add_jobserver @job_name = 'myTestBackupJob', @server_name = N'(local)'
    -- Run job. Starts the job immediately.
    USE msdb
    EXEC sp_start_job @job_name = 'myTestBackupJob'

  • DPM Express Full Backups Causing SQL timeouts

    Hi,
    We run a SQL 2008 R2 failover cluster on Server 2008 R2 SP1 connected to an Equallogic SAN. The SQL failover cluster is fully servicepacked and installed the latest cumulative updates.
    We have all our databases in full recovery mode and protected by DPM 2012 SP1 with latest cumulative updates.
    The protection groups for SQL are configured to synchronise every 60mins and 1 express full backup every night. Every time the SQL express backups run the SQL server experiences timouts and end users report applications timing out. In the SQL server Application
    logs I see Event ID 833 numerous times, these only occur as the express full backups take place. Every time the express full backups run we see the same timeouts and event logged that I/O has taken longer than 15 seconds to complete:

    Hi
    A copy backup will not truncate the logs but a full backup will and it will also stamp the database once it does a full backup.

    Bill thanks for that,
    this is actually an SQL express edition and not a full SQL server.
    Environment:
    Databases will be detached, copied to from  E:\SQL\MSSQL\Data\ to a shared location and then mount black database foles .MDF
    and .LDF files to the SQL express and then restart the kiwi syslog applications.
     why not powershell? well I've inherited this and machine is a 2003 server and we do not install PS on all machines except
    if they are needed.
    SQLServer Express comes with tools to backup the database.  Post is SQLServer forum to learn how to set up and use SQLExpress tools.
    SQLExpress has support in PowerShell for managing the  server.
    Here si on emethod posted by Microsoft that is useful.  Methods using the scheduler and other tools are available.

  • How to create backup using sql commands

    can i create a backup using sql/sqlplus commands

    I would actually advice you to use RMAN, instead of backup using sql commands, but if you want or have a requirment to do so..
    First off all you should ensire that your databasse is in archilog mode.. (ALL PRODUCTION DATABASES should be in archivelog mode)
    you can do it using sql*plus
    archive log list
    Then if you would like to make a cold backup (the only one posible in noarchivelog mode)
    ypu have to
    shutdown immediate
    copy all database files (you don't need to copy redo logs) to another device
    startup - to startup database
    Actually I will suggest that your read User manager Recovery guide from oracle documentation

  • How to find sql server backup was taken under compression mode

    Hello,
    How to find SQL server backup was taken under compression mode ? I have disabled the Compress Mode backup setting but I want to make sure the backup is taken without compression.
    Is there a script for that?
    Thanks
    JK

    I have disabled the Compress Mode backup
    That is only a default setting, in backup command you can always overwrite it to a different value.

  • Problem: VSS error with 'SQL Server Backup to Windows Azure Tool' installed

    When 'SQL Server Backup to Windows Azure Tool' is installed, shadow copies cannot be enable and backups fail.  When attempting to enable shadow copies, we get a "volsnap" error:  "The shadow copies of volume X were aborted because
    of a failed free space computation".  After uninstalling the "Tool", VSS works.  Reinstalling "Tool" causes the problem to return.
    While the error suggests a space issue, there is plenty of space on the server's two volumes.  Additionally, another 100GB volume was added and VSS storage was allocated to it; still received the error.
    Issue seems to point to 'SQL Server Backup to Windows Azure Tool'.
    Environment:  Hyper-V guest:  "Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard" with "SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard".  Using "Azure Storage" for SQL backups.
    Suggestions?

    Hello,
    Yes, we have a confirmed interference between the tool and the VSS Framework. This was identified very recently and is under investigation by the product group. Since the issue is within the filter driver shipped by the tool, that unfortunately means that
    you currently need to choose between the tool and a working VSS Framework. If the latter is more important, then uninstall the tool (that will require a restart).
    We apolologize for the inconvenience. I'm going to try to get the home page of the tool updated to avoid other situations like yours. Hopefully we should see a new version of the tool soon.
    As a side note, recent versions of SQL Server can directly use Azure Storage as backup target, see
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj919148(v=sql.110).aspx.
