Periodic Backup

Hi
How to take oracle database back up from two specified dates(From date ,To date) using oracle exp or expdp utility.
I am trying to migrate my production data from oracle 9i to 10g.So i need to take backup between the specified date.
Please advice

The Application Schema must be designed to allow you to identify rows that have changed or have been inserted or have been deleted since the last export/backup.
Some tables may have "LAST_UPDATE_DT" columns which could be used, provided that the column is updated.
Many other tables would not have such a reference.
You could copy the current data and for each table write a script to identify every "different" row and then merge the changes. Tough job.
In short : Your requirements are not doable unless you know the schema very well. You shoud take a full fresh backup.

  • Automatic periodic backup of ongoing work

I am using the trial of Pages '09 in order to test its suitability. I have just lost 15 minutes work because stupidly I didn't think to back up my new document, when I had a power failure (battery run down, no mains power) and lost my work in hand. I cannot find it on my disk, having had to re-boot.
*Is there a way to set up an automatic periodic backup of ongoing work?*
I am used to this with MS Office software and also with Open Office, it has proved extremely useful on many an occasion, and I cannot find a way to do this in Pages '09

Many thanks! In fact the version available for download requires Leopard, and I'm still on Tiger, but I am upggrading to Leopard in about a week's time, so problem solved. And also many thanks for giving your very helpful advice so quickly.

  • Required to take periodic backup status report from SQL server

    Dear All,
I need to take periodic database backup status of all sql server instance in different domain. But, i am doing it by logging into all sql server manually.
We can do it through option called ' Managed server' in sql server by connecting required server.
But, I want to know the script and any other option in sql server to connect all sql instance in different domain group to take backup status report in single run.
I need your help here and share the experience if you implemented ever in your environment.

    see
    http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/1601/script-to-retrieve-sql-server-database-backup-history-and-no-backups/
You can use above scripts to capture the information
For automated execution wrap it in a procedure with INSERT statement to dump the results onto a table and call the procedure from sql agent job to execute  it based on a predefined schedule.

  • CAN I PUT ALL MY FOLDERS AND INFO IN ONE MASTER FOLDER SO THAT IT'S EASY TO BACKUP PERIODICALLY?

    Hello,
I thought of a solution to backing my files up in a quick way instead of having to look around all over my hard drive to drag my music, photos, documents, etc into my external hard drives for backup. (which is the current method I use)
Id like to know if there would be any downsides simply putting all of the information like: music, documents, photos, videos and downloads (not including Applications) into one unique file.
I am trying to avoid using Time Machine and backup Applications. I understand you can also program hard drives to mirror each other, but I belive my current external hard drives do not support this.
The question is basically: could it be harmful in any to  store ALL(or as much) of your info that requires periodic backup into one master folder? Or does anyone know of any rule that may go against this solution?
    Thanks beforehand for the feedback.
    Emmi.

    Yes.
A long time ago Apple did not force users into keeping their files in specifed locations, such as music in the Music folder, movies in the Movies folder etc. However, iTunes, iMovie, iPhoto all have evolved to the point that Apple has made it difficult for us to do anything other than follow their recommended locations.
There are certainly ways around this - you can specify alternate locations for your iTunes Library and your iPhoto Library for instance, but you will be swimming against the tide. This will undoubtedly cause problems that will be difficult to diagnose because you will be a lone outlier, attempting to circumvent Apple's preferred organizational method.
I understand that you do not want to use Time Machine, but again this is Apple's recommended (if arguably heavy-handed) way of doing things. You can easily configure Time Machine to exclude folders that you do not want it to back up. If Time Machine does not address your needs, then consider Carbon Copy Cloner. It can also be customized to back up only those folders you specify: music, documents, photos, videos and downloads if that is your wish, and it can perform on a schedule.
I believe you will find it more convenient - and assure you it will be much less likely to cause difficulty - than what you propose.

  • Time capsule failing to backup

    Hi.
I am having a weird problem with my Time Capsule.  Apple does not seem to want to help; they say that I am using the Time Capsule in an unsupported configuration.
    Can anybody help here??
In short, I am using the Time Capsule (TC) as a network storage device only.  It's RF is turned off and it is in bridge mode, so it is not offering DHCP or DNS, etc.  It is on my home network.  I used ONLY the standard Apple Airport Utility to configure the TC.
The TC is running 7.6.3 and my Mac is an Macbook Pro with Retina display, 16 GB memory, with 750 GB solid state disk running OS X 10.8.3.
The symptom is that, after the TC is initialized, I connect my Mac via Cat5 Ethernet and start the backup.  It backs up fine and will continue its periodic backup for sometime; could be two days or several weeks.  Then, it fails with a popup (see below).
I have power cycled, tried different network connections, reset the TC, reloaded the OS, and its even a new Mac and a new TC.  Oh, my first TC is running like a champ, in the exact same configuration (different IP's, of course), and supporting my wife's and daughter's Macs - same version of Mac OS X.  I have factory reset the TC and had this recur more than a dozen times.
There have been a number of open tickets during which the Apple Support people would send me the Data Capture application; I would run it, send them the data and then never heard back from them.  This has happened twice.  This last week, while in between consulting gigs, I dedicated some time to this and was told by one of the Apple support people that it is an unsupported configuration.  They say the device has to be the main router, and the first router behind a cable modem (or BHR, as in the case of FiOS).  I went nuts.  No standards compliant device should care.
So, as a last resort, before I toss this thing out the window (saving the hard drive, of course), I come to the people here for ideas or others' experiences.  My view is that the device should not care where it is in the network hierarchy.
The details, including the log output (which the Apple guy today did not even want to see because it was a non-standard configuration) is all below.
I would really appreciate the help!

The TC is configured using Apple Airport Utility as follows:

Physically, the TC's WAN port is connected to a Netgear JGS524 24-port 10/1000 switch which in turn is connected to a to a Netgear R6300 wireless router which in turn is connected to a Verizon FiOS BHR.
My Macintosh is a Macbook Pro Retina (mid 2012) running 10.8.3 and is connected via Ethernet into one of the switch ports in the back of the TC.
    =========================================================================
Wednesday, with the guidance of Apple Support, I reset my 3TB Time Capsule.  I brought it up and configured it as above.  I want the TC to be on my existing home network as a network-attached storage for my Macbook backups.  I have a second, older 1TB Time Capsule configured exactly the same except for name and IP address, of course, that supports my wife's and daughter's Macbooks.  This has been running without problem.
Backups had been running seemingly fine since March 20 afternoon after this.
Through Thursday early afternoon, it had been running fine.   When I logged back in (screen saver protection) sometime after 5PM this afternoon, I saw the following pop-up:

    LaPastenague,
Thanks for taking the time.  I shall review what you wrote and check out the references.
You are right in that I shouldn't have put that full log in.  I guess I wanted to show that things were working.
So, here's the log of the failing backup session, somewhat annotated:
Here's the normal backup session startup:
    3/21/13 4:04:39.173 PM com.apple.backupd[23914]: Starting automatic backup
    3/21/13 4:04:39.507 PM com.apple.backupd[23914]: Attempting to mount network destination URL: afp://Armando%20Stettner;[email protected]/apsTCdisk
3/21/13 4:04:50.156 PM com.apple.backupd[23914]: Mounted network destination at mount point: /Volumes/apsTCdisk using URL: afp://Armando%20Stettner;[email protected]/apsTCdisk
    3/21/13 4:05:02.930 PM com.apple.backupd[23914]: Disk image /Volumes/apsTCdisk/apsMacbook.sparsebundle mounted at: /Volumes/Time Machine Backups
Remove volume on the TC is now mounted.  Time Machine starts looking for the work to be done.
    3/21/13 4:05:02.934 PM com.apple.backupd[23914]: Backing up to: /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb
3/21/13 4:05:05.834 PM com.apple.backupd[23914]: Using file event preflight for aps Macbook
3/21/13 4:05:10.302 PM com.apple.backupd[23914]: Will copy (343.8 MB) from aps Macbook
    3/21/13 4:05:10.388 PM com.apple.backupd[23914]: Found 411 files (343.8 MB) needing backup
    3/21/13 4:05:10.393 PM com.apple.backupd[23914]: 2.38 GB required (including padding), 2.53 TB available
Now, Time Machine knows what it has to backup and that there's enough space on the TC available for the backup.
And now, the Error.  This seems to be the beginning of the end. It seems there were 5 file access problems of some sort.  To me, this looks like it was trying to access file/data from the remotely mounted Time Capsule and it failed for some reason.

  • How can i copy my data files from a windows backup to mac mini

I recently purchased a mac mini and waiting on its arrival.  I am converting from WinXP and my current system is not working at the moment (started smelling smoke one day and the video hasn't displayed since from the PC - so its been shut down).  I can easily fix whatever the issue is with the PC - however - my question is.  I perform periodic backup of my data files to an external drive with Windows Backup, can I restore my files from the Windows Backup to the Mac Mini?  If I don't have to fix the PC - I can save that cost and buy an CD drive for the Mini (or something else).
I haven't investigated the real problem on the PC - I just know its hardware related (not OS).
My last backup was atleast 1 month ago - so I know I might lose a couple of things....but not very much.  If its "simplier" for the migration process to fix the PC - then that is the answer but if I can extract from the external 1TB Seagate.  I think I only have 50GB of data (itunes / pictures / etc)
    Thanks

  • Backup solutions w/RAID or redundancy (NAS, RAID, DIY File server)

Hi all, I need a place to bounce my ideas off of. Here goes:
I have been doing a lot of reading, since I was considering adding an NAS solution for my home network. My data consists mainly of videos (TVs and movies) and pictures (many many years worth).
Anyways, out of the box solutions seemed a bit too pricy and the RAID not that spectacular unless you're willing to spend, so I began looking at building my own fileserver, with a hardware/software RAID solution. That was a bit better bang for the buck, but I still had one nagging concern.
I've played around with RAID before, and I realized that with mirroring (the only RAID option I was really considering), was that it relied on the RAID controller. I couldn't just take a hard drive, remove it physically from the array, and have my information accessible when plugging it into another computer.
What happens in a few years if your RAID controller dies and you can't find the exact same one? Your array will always be dependent on that controller and I really don't like that feeling. I'd rather have the option of taking a drive, plugging it in another computer, rather than needing to move the whole array (RAID, NAS, DIY file server) around. That means quicker access to my information or the ability to take it with me anywhere I go, on a moment's notice.
The least costly solution I have come up with, for data that doesn't change all that much, is to have two huge drives (1 TB) on a computer, either one or both connected via eSATA. Just remember to ghost/copy the main drive once in a while, and keep the 'backup' drive detached (preferably located in a fire-proof safe) and back it up once in a while, on a regular basis).
Sorry for the long post, but how does that sound, for a cheap, reliable backup solution, for data that doesn't get updated too frequently and for ease of access and use?

    Hi BGBG;
For what you are attempting to do, RAID is not the best solution. The reason I say this is because RAID 1 is only capable of protection from disk failure. It is not a valid backup solution.
I think that your last solution of using eSATA and a copy is the best. My only addition to your proposal would be a third disk. That way when you move the backup disk into storage you could replace it with the third one. In this way you could use SuperDuper to periodically backup between two disks.

  • What type of DVD should I use for Windows Backup?

I am wanting to do my Windows Backup and I was wondering what type of DVD media I should use. Is it better to use a RW or only R type DVD.
    I have an HP Omni 220-1180qd, A5W89AV#ABA, running Win7 64 bit.
I thought I read it can use CD's, DVD's but I want to know which would be the better choice.
Thanks for any help and all help is appreciated.
    This question was solved.

Honestly, an external hard drive would be a better choice. The difference between +R and +R/W is that +R is "Recordable" and +R/W is "Re-Writable". If you intend on making periodic backups, go with an extrernal hard drive... If you intend on making very few backups, consider the DVD+R discs.

  • Time Machine will not delete the oldest backup when external hard drive is full

I may not understand this timemachine thing, but....
I have macbook pro, 15", mid 2011, mountain lion......I have a WD Passport Studio I have ben using to back up with time machine periodically. I tried to back up today and it says i do not have enough room on my external drive. I tought the time machine automatically deletes the oldest back up?

I agree with Linc's response but you also have to realize that it will keep the oldest backup and start removing snapshots if it can.
It is my undestanding that time machine does what is called a full backup the first time and then the snapshots done after that are changes since the first backup. I'm not sure if time machine then does periodic backups or just snapshots.

  • Period Incorrect Setup

    Hi Experts.
Our client is running SBO 2007A SP00 PL45.
Their financial year runs from 1st January to 31st December.
They have incorrectly setup 2010 as a single period instead of 12 calendar months.
They have entered transactions into this period and so it can't be deleted and setup again correctly.
Is there any way we can dig ourselves out of this hole?
    Your thoughts would be appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Julie Coppins

    Hi Julie
Once they have posted, you are in a bit of a hole! There are some articles on this subject on the wiki
I have just re-built a database as the customer changed their FY but alrady had postings. We restored a backup, deleted the incorrect periods, re-added the new FY and then imported all of the transactions again...
You have some options, they are listed below: Good Luck
Peter (let me knwo if I can assist further)
It frequently occurs that posting periods are defined, postings have been made & then a decision is taken to change the posting periods from, e.g. months to year. SAP Business One does not allow the change of posting periods as soon as there has been a journal transaction. There are 2 options to correct the posting periods. It will depend on the circumstances & the number of transactions which method is the most suitable.
    Option 1 (preferred solution):
Roll back to the last backup of the database before the first posting was created using the new period:
    1.     Identify all delta data that has been added to the database since the first posting has been made in the period to be corrected.
    2.     Export this data by either using the 'Export to Excel' functionality or export from a 'select' SQL query.
    3.     Reinstate the backup & create the correct posting period, backup the database.
    4.     Import all delta data.
Using this method, the integrity of the database & the appropriate sequence of posting periods is retained. All reporting can be done according to the correct periods.
Option 2 (technical alternative, use only if Option 1 is not possible):
    Example 1:
The Posting period is defined as 'Months' when it should have been 'Year'. There have been postings in the periods. In this example, the first 4 months have postings. The current setting is as follows:
All periods that do not have postings yet can be deleted:
    1.     Administration -> General Settings -> Posting Periods -> open the period
    2.     Rightclick in the 'Posting Period' window & select 'Remove'
Once only periods are left that have postings, perform a complete period end closing including all reporting. Backup the database.
Create a new posting period as follows (Caution: Check if your customer uses period indicators & adapt appropriately):
Ascertain that the 'To'-posting date is correct.
The new fiscal year starts at the first day of the new period. Any subsequently defined period will start at 01.01.2009.
    Example 2:
The posting periods should be set per month & have erroneously been defined as per year.
Restrict the current posting date range to the next logical date, e.g. with a current date of 21.04.2008, the last posting date for the current period should be set to 30.04.2008, such that the next period starts on 01.05.2008.
Create a new period as follows (Caution: Check whether your customer uses period indicators & act accordingly):
As sub-periods choose 'Months' & then set the number of periods to '8' (May, Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec). Click on 'Update'.
SAP Business One will then automatically create the required periods. On the last day of the current period take a backup of the database.
Once all transactions have been entered into the 'old' period, perform a complete period closing, including all required reporting.

  • Extra Storage & Backup

I have a flat-panel iMac G4/800, and with the purchase of a new Canon Rebel XT (8MP digital camera), I'm losing hard disk space fast!
I'm looking for an external storage solution that will allow me:
    1) To have a good deal more available hard drive space.
    2) Maintain backups of both my internal and external hard drives.
I've thought and thought and thought about this, and my current thought seems to be two external Firewire drives would be the way to go for this. One would be for expanding my available disk space, and the other would be partitioned and utilized for periodic backups.
Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with this? Is there anything weird about daisy-chaining drives? Should I leave the backup drive unplugged and shut down except for when backups are being made?
I've heard mixed reviews of LaCie drives, but their 250GB seem to be looking good right about now.... Does anyone have any faves, and is there some backup software I should consider to make this easier?
    iMac G4/800 Mac OS X (10.4.3)

As Duane mentions, keeping all your data on one drive does not do you any good if that drive fails. It would be better to maintain a backup or clone on one HD and then archive your raw and modified data on optical disk.
FireWire is definately the way to go. I have read many mexied things about LaCie drives and have a Mercury Elite Pro drive from OWC. They also sell the enclosure so you can buya bare drive on sale somewhere and assemble the drive yourself.
I use SuperDuper to clone my internal to my external and with a clone you can boot from that external HD if needed. Avoid the Prolific chipset and buy a drive with the Oxford 911 chipset instead as it is much more reliable and is Mac bootable. If it does not say it has the Oxford chipset, it does not.

  • Independent backup of iPod nano

Hi: Can I backup my iPod Nano by simply copying all files (hidden etc.) off of it from its My Computer drive mapping?
I ask because I just went thru the anguish of the dreaded "iPod recovery". If I can make periodic backups of it outside the iTunes software then thats what i want to do.
    best regards,
    russ

I find your question a bit perplexing. Unless you erase the music from your computer after syncing, then iTunes is your iPod backup, so to speak. There's no reason to backup the iPod. Of course there are very good reasons to back up your iTunes library - the music files, playlists, etc. Put not the iPod itself.

  • IPHOTO 9 PARTIAL BACKUP

After a bad experience using Time Machine with an external hard drive I decided to back up my photos to 2 DVDs, which I did. I would like to periodically backup only those items in iPhoto that have been added since the original backup, how do I select them and do this?

Backing up to Optical Disks (DVD, CD) is less conveninet. As I say above, they're on the way out. Soon, most Macs won't have an optical drive. That means you'll have to purchase an external burner to keep backing up plus to access your back up if you need it.
For the same cost - or less -  you can purchase a couple of USB Hard Disks and make a couple of back ups - these back ups can be automated, updated easily and restored much more quickly.
    Possible apps:
    ChronoSync
    DejaVu
    Super Duper
