Automatic periodic backup of ongoing work

I am using the trial of Pages '09 in order to test its suitability. I have just lost 15 minutes work because stupidly I didn't think to back up my new document, when I had a power failure (battery run down, no mains power) and lost my work in hand. I cannot find it on my disk, having had to re-boot.
*Is there a way to set up an automatic periodic backup of ongoing work?*
I am used to this with MS Office software and also with Open Office, it has proved extremely useful on many an occasion, and I cannot find a way to do this in Pages '09

Many thanks! In fact the version available for download requires Leopard, and I'm still on Tiger, but I am upggrading to Leopard in about a week's time, so problem solved. And also many thanks for giving your very helpful advice so quickly.

    Also, if you have security software (antivirus, firewall etc.) installed, you can try deleting all existing instances of Firefox and related files in all the different configuration areas/modules of the security software. Instead create new allow/trusted rules for Firefox + its related processes.   • Time Machine automatic backups don't work since 10.6.4

    TM stopped doing automatic backups on my MacBook Pro, apparently when updated to 10.6.4 on 2010-06-16. Backup only runs when I initiate it manually, or when the machine reconnects to the home network, after time away or upon reboot.
    Each time I enter System Preferences > Time Machine, the switch on the left says TM is OFF and the Next Backup time reads: Automatic backups off. I can turn the switch to ON (the word "ON" does not turn blue, as it should, and Next Backup does not change), but when I exit and re-enter, it shows OFF again.
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist when opened in Property List Editor says "AutoBackup, Boolean, checkmark." I have dragged this .plist out of its folder and restarted, letting TM recreate it -- it didn't change anything about the above behavior.
    I looked in the backup set to see whether either /System/Library/PreferencePanes/TimeMachine.prefPane or /Applications/Time Machine.app had been updated at 10.6.4. Indeed, both had changed around the day of installing 10.6.4.
    I replaced the directory /System/Library/PreferencePanes/TimeMachine.prefPane from a June 1 backup. After reboot -- nothing had changed.

    My takeaway from this investigation is best summed up by Chuck Goolsbee
    That's exaggerated. Time Machine is more complex, and does more for you, than most backup apps. Some of the messages are not helpful, and Apple's documentation is, well, inadequate.
    But it does work well for most of us, and there are resources to figure out how to fix it when something does go wrong.
    But, I've learned over the years (mostly the hard way, of course ), never to trust my backups to a single app or piece of hardware: no app is perfect, and all hardware fails, sooner or later.
    So, like many here, I keep +secondary backups,+ in addition to Time Machine. See #27 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum), for details.

    I have problem with maxdb (content server). Is it possible to activate automatic log backup to pipe? We are backuping through Tivoli on tapes. Backup media are created and manual backups are working fine but i am not able to activate automatic log backups! Always when I am activating this the file instead of pipe is created in /sapdb/RDB/backup directory and backup is not performed.
    In the Note 869267 - FAQ: MaxDB LOG area I found out that it is not possible to activate automatic log backups to pipe is it true?

    What database version are you running?
    You already found the note 869267, which gave you answer on the question "24. Can the log area be saved to a pipe? ". The SAP note 869267 also give you the answer on the question "26. How do I archive the log backup files generated?
    "Is it possible to activate automatic log backup to pipe?"
    *No.
    And it's true, that "Automatic log  backups to a pipe CANNOT be supported at present" , as it was explained in the SAP note 869267.
    But you could run the interactive log backups to a pipe.

    Our financial year ended this september and new

    etc...
    Month_Id increases continously regardless of new financial year.
    Period_ID
    11 (Aug
    12 (Sep)
    1 (Oct)Period changes to 1 again coz our coy's
    financial year period starts in October.
    Now, the main part of the SQL statement causing cross year problem is this:-
    WHERE MONTH_ID BETWEEN MONTH_ID-(PERIOD_ID-1) AND MONTH_ID-1
    Firstly, for last month September:-
    Between Month_ID - (Period_ID-1) and Month_ID - 1
    72 - (12-1) 72 - 1
    =Between 61 and 71
    The calculation is correct for September.
    Now for October, this is the new financial year and the
    Period_id has now changed from 12 to 1.Month_ID has now increased to 73.
    Between Month_ID - (Period_ID-1) and Month_ID - 1
    73 - (1-1) 73 - 1
    = Between 73 and 72
    This statement is obviously wrong.
    Folks, is there anyway I could fine tune the SQL to automate this so that it works during all cross year periods?

    I am looking for the iPhone automatic backup file created by iTunes while upgrading iPhone to iOS 5 via  iTunes 10.5.2.11 / Windows XP.  Itunes creates automatically a backup of iPhone before upgrading and will restore this backup after upgrade is completed.  I need to know where to find this backup file.
    I just upgraded iPhone to iOS 5 via iTunes on Windows XP.  I forgot to make my own iPhone backup before upgrading.  After upgrading and restoring iPhone (the automaitc backup), iTunes started a sync with Outlook even tough I had checked in iTunes "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically".
    I did  not wish iTunes to sync with Outlook, and cancelled the sync.  Now I got a lot of stuff mixed up in my iPhone and I would like to restore my iPhone with the automatic backup created by iTunes before upgrading to iOS 5.  This backup doesn't show in the backups listed in iTunes / device backups.

    Agreed. Same thing here. Just bought a late model Alpine INE-S920Hd and it is all kinds of broken. I think this is happening because Apple shifted the music and video. Totally buggy. Bluetooth refuses to work properly, too. A2dp keeps stealing the audio from Pandora in the Alpine interface. The ipod controls dont work at all.

  • N97 Automatic Retrieval Emails - Won't work

    Hi, I have had my N97 for 6 months now and it's been working fine and my emails have been automatically been retrieved every 5 minutes as set. When I wanted to upload the new Ovi Maps I did not have enoght memory so reset the phone and started all over again.
    My N97 is working fine again apart from the Automatic Retrieval for emails. I have the automatic retrieval set  (as is was set prior to the reset) but it is not now connecting every 5 mins and I have to manually connect it to see if I have any emails. When I connect manually I can retrieve emails OK and I can also send emails OK, it is the automatic retrieval that will not work, although it is set up. The phones software is also up to date.
    Any ideas anyone?

  • PSE8 Backup/Synchronization not working for more than a month

    1. Reconnecting files shows that a file is not connected; however, no file is listed. How do I find missing file's properties.
    2. Backup/synchronization preferences works fine.
    3. I can select one or more or the whole catalog.
    4. The twirly icons show next to the album(s) for a second or show but then the synced icon remains in album/albums.
    5. I click OK and after the hour glass shows a while, it finishes.
    6. I click on icon and see that sychronization is on.
    7. If I check (unsynced items, synced items, or items marked for sync) it shows nothing and says that none of those choices matches.
    8. I have repaired and reindexed countless times (never has there been a "repair" problem.
    9. I click on optimize and that works.
    10. After that I notice "generating thumb nails" and the twirly thing moving. I've let it generate thumbnails for more than 24 hours and it's still going.
    I have spent countles hours during day and night, and I can't get it to work.
    I noticed that someone wrote that he had a similar problem that began with his using the IPAD. And I started using the IPAD also, but I couldn't sync my files with photoshop.com before that.
    Customer service and Help provides me with no answers. What should I do?

    Sorry to hear about the troubles.
    On your #1, you may have disconnected files of media types that are not visible. To ensure that all media types are visible, go to View > Media Types, and check any items that are not currently checked. Then try the Reconnect.
    As far as backup/sync not working, disconnected files can stop sync from working.
    After resolving the disconnected files issue, let us know if sync is not working. We may need to look at the sync log to determine why.
    As for the Organizer constantly generating thumbnails, this could indicated that you have many files, for example 10,000, in your catalog.
    If you have many files in your catalog, then you may need to just wait for the process to finish.
    It may also indicate a problem with the thumbnail cache that can't be repaired by the Optimize command.
    You can manually reset this file by doing the following:
    Determine the name of your Elements Organizer catalog.
    The name of the catalog appears in the lower-left of the Organizer.
        Alternatively, you can open the Organizer and then click File >  Catalog. The name of the catalog will show in the list at the bottom  with " [current]" after it.
    Close the Elements Organizer.
    Navigate in Windows Explorer to the folder that contains your catalog. Here are the default locations:
       Windows 7 or Vista: C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs\<CATALOG NAME>  
    Click Start, type "%ProgramData%" (including the quotation marks) into the Start Search, and then press Enter.
    Open each folder in the above structure until you have opened the catalog folder.
       Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs\<CATALOG NAME>  
    Choose Start > Run, type "%AllUsersProfile%\Application Data" (including the quotation marks) in the Open text box, then press Enter or click OK.
    Open each folder in the above structure until you have opened the catalog folder.
       NOTE: Replace <CATALOG NAME> with the name of the catalog that you determined in Step 1 above.
    There should be a file called thumb.5.cache, which is the thumbnail cache. Delete this file.
    The next time you open the Elements Organizer, the thumbnail cache will begin to rebuild. This may take some time, depending on the number of files you have in the catalog.

    What problem does Encore have with DL?
    If DL is not working properly for you the way around this is to export from Premiere to either mpeg2-dvd for DVD or BluRay H.264 for BD-disks and import the files in Encore.

    From your error description, I recommend you do the following steps for troubleshooting:
    1. Please run CHKDSK and restart server.
    2. Run a Database level Mailbox repair request.
