Persistent Chat/MUCs with Jabber 9.7 on CUCM9.1/CUPS9.1

Hello All,
I'm testing Jabber 9.7 internally on a CUCM9.1/CUPS9.1 deployment, in hopes of using persistent chat rooms.
Currently, I have working MUC rooms with 3rd party chat clients, but I think there's a configuration option missing from CUCM or CUPS that's preventing me from using them in Jabber for Windows. From Pidgin, I'm able to join a MUC, and invite another user to that persistent MUC -- however, if a Jabber user tries to invite another Jabber user to that MUC, the invited user will recieve a message: "You have been invited to a chat room. However, Cisco Jabber is not configured for chat room services. Contact your administrator". I can't find it in the documentation anywhere, but I have a feeling if I were running CUCM10/CUPS10, I'd have an option (probably on the CSF) to enable said "Chat Room Services".
Can anyone out there confirm or deny this? If you have a CUCM10 deployment, and it does have this option, can you let me know what actually gets added to the jabberconfig xml file?
Thanks!

Hi famcbwolfe,
I have the same issue, on the same CUCM and CUPS versions.
Was you able to get any further? I too fear that we will need to migration 10.5.
Thanks in advance,
Ed

  • Group chat invitations with jabber

We've got an internal jabber server (Jive Messenger 2.2) set up with several accounts. We can connect to the server with iChat no problem and talk to each other 1-on-1. But if we try to set up a group chat (Invite to chat...), we don't get/see the invitations. Also, the jabber server is set up to let users create group chats and you can see the rooms being created in the jabber server admin tool. Is this not possible with jabber and iChat or is my setup incorrect?
    Thanks, Erik

    Hi Erik,
My Current Jabber account is showing no Active On line Buddies.
However if I go to the File Menu > New Chat the participants type chat window opens and I can drag multiple people there for a chat.
If I check the Edit menu and Chat Options the chat has a room ID as well.
I would have to test with online people to be able to tell you that your set up was wrong.
IN the case of Jabber answers, take SillyDog's, Gilbert Taylor's or Ryan Mathus' answers over mine.

  • Setting up Chat Room with Jabber

I am trying to create a chat room for multiple users all using a Jabber (gmail) account within ichat.  Is there a special naming protocol to creating a chat room or do you need to create an address somewhere before joining this chat room?
I have no problem doing it with my .me account but for work everyone is on gmail so we ideally be able to use the Jabber accounts for group chats.
I did mange to "create" one called [email protected] (our domain) but when I tried to join I get the grey spinning wheel and don't get any further.
Clearly I'm missing something so any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Sarah

    Hi,
GoogleTalk is supposed to allow group chats.
These tend to be called "Conferences" on most Jabber servers.
Most Jabber servers have a section of additional itme your can "register" for and Login to.
However to do this takes a third party app like Psi.
This can then do "Service Discovery" on the server in question and show what features you can sign up for.
These can include "Transports" that allow you to add Buddies from different services and Conference calls.
Having said that if you do Service Discovery on GoogleTalk you find nothing
Many apps also presume the server name is the last part of your user ID and for Google with it's @gmail.com and @googlemail.com this does not work properly in some of these apps.
This page has Instructions for how to set up a Transport to MSN using Psi and you can see the Service Discovery panel.
Essentially a room has to be given a Name and this is coupled with the Jabber server name it is on so that it looks something like this:-
    [email protected]
The room "ralph" is on the conference server at the jabber.org.uk server.
Substituting [email protected] does not seem to work as a room name.
It may pay to start from a  Web Browser login and see if a room name becomes apparent that way.
    Edit
The last two "links" I have tried to remove the Links but they keep get added back

  • Persistent chat lync 2013

    hi
i follow microsoft book to train Lync 2013
for deployment persistent chat after built topology builder
I open lync wizard and click "Install or update Lync Server system"
after run Setup or Remove lync server component i got below error
    please help

    Hi,
If it is a Lync Standard Edition, Persistent Chat Server can be deployed on the Standard Edition server. The Persistent Chat Server Back End Server and the Persistent Chat Compliance database can be collocated on the Standard Edition server on the
local SQL Server Express Back End Server.
If you collocate the Persistent Chat database with the back-end database, you can either use a single instance of SQL Server for any or all of the databases, or you can use a separate instance of SQL Server for each database, with
    the following limitation:
Each instance of SQL Server can contain only a single back-end database and a single Persistent Chat database.
So we do not recommend collocating the Persistent Chat database with the back-end database.
    More details:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398500.aspx
From your description, you collocate Persistent Chat database with the back-end database.
You can refer to the link below which installed Persistent Chat database on the same SQL backend database as the front-end server:

  • CUPS 8.5 Turning on Persistent Chat, Affects to Ad-hoc?

Does turning on persistent chat, and using managed chat node aliases.... override/disable ad-hoc chat?
Currently we are only doing ad-hoc chat.  Looking at my settings, the check box for "System automatically manages primary group chat server aliases" is checked, and we have persistent chat off.
I'm getting ready to turn persistent chat on, with all other DBs and configs set... and we plan on Managing chat node aliases.
Turning OFF the "system automatically manages..." feature is required to do that.  What's the impact then on ad-hoc chats?  Is ad-hoc chatting no longer allowed once persistent chat is turned on?

    Hi
No, it's a seperate feature and ad-hoc IM is completely unaffaceted.

  • Deploying multiple central sites sharing the same edge, persistent chat and monitoring services

    Hi,
We've already one central site and multible branches that have SBS installed ,we're planning to replace these SBSs with standard edition servers to reduce the dependencies on the FE and BW that are located in the central site but that all will share the
same Edge ,Persistent chat and Monitoring roles located in the Main site.
What points we should take care of while making these changes regarding the following:
    1- Reverse Proxy
    2- DNS records
3- Edge configuration and communication with the branch sites
4- Persistent Chat communication with the branch sites
5- Monitoring services which is coallocated on the main FE
6- Users sign in internally and externally and how they will be directed to use their server for meet and dialin

     1- Reverse Proxy
publish the webservices for all additional standard Server (Change certificate with additional SAN!)
    2- DNS records
The registrar on the branch side should point to the Standard server
3- Edge configuration and communication with the branch sites
can still be used with the standard server
4- Persistent Chat communication with the branch sites
can still be used with the standard server
5- Monitoring services which is coallocated on the main FE
the same for the standrad Server, only configuration
6- Users sign in internally and externally and how they will be directed to use their server for meet and dialin
therefore you have to publish the webservices through your reverse Proxy and to Change the DNS entries for your local sites.

  • Jabber Persistent Chat Room oddity

    Hi,
I'm currently running Persistent Chat Rooms on version 10.5.1 of Presence. We have recently been experiencing an odd problem with Chat Rooms where they are created as Private rooms, for then to randomly change to Public. The settings are locked down that once a room is created you can't then change its permissions without deleting and recreating. We've had Persistent Chat Rooms set up for a couple of months and its only been the past couple of weeks we have noticed the problem.
Has anyone else come across this and if so found a fix? I've not found anything else on the forum regarding this so am wondering if we're the lucky ones!
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Rob

    Hi Rob
I would start looking at the history of changes i did on the Presence for Persistent Chat rooms on the Group Chat and Persistent Chat option. Specifically under member settings.
Share your screenshot of the above page i will try to replicate in my lab, and also mention the Jabber version you are using.

  • Persistent Chat (Lync Server 2013) with Lync 2010 Group Chat

I have successfully deployed Lync Server 2013 and both 2013 and 2010 desktop clients connect and function as expected.
The problem is with Persistent Chat. It works perfectly with the 2013 desktop client but - whilst 2010 Group Chat connects - I receive the error message "The [LOGON_DOMAIN] is not available". No chat rooms are available and I am unable to search.
I have been unable to locate anything on the web which discusses the problem.
I do not know whether this makes a difference but the 2010 clients use terminals rather than dedicated workstations.
Can anyone shed any light on what the problem may be?

Have you created a CsPersistentChatEndpoint to allow the Group Chat client (2010) to connect to Persistent
Chat server? Please take a look at: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204901.aspx

  • Video chat & Screensharing unavailable with Jabber account in Messages

    Dear all,
I use Messages to connect to 2 Jabber services: Google Chat and Facebook Chat.
I've read that Messages can deliver Screensharing and Video Chatting services for Jabber account. However I've never seen this option next to friends' name in Buddy Lists (seperate list). And whenever I select a friend's id (in GChat or FChat), there's always one available action possible: start conversation, and the buttons for starting video chat or screensharing (at the bottom of the buddy list window) are always greyed-out.
After much reading on this site I've still not found out the answer. Can someone helps me on this point ?
    Thanks a lot,
    M

    HI,
A Jabber specific App or a Web Browser with the Google Video Chat Plug-in  can do Video chats using the Jingle Protocol that Jabber apps use.
At one time Google seemed to use Flash to do Video chats and there have been reported conflicts with having both Flash and the Google Plug-in active  for your web browser.
    To state this another way.
Jabber apps tend to be a collection of modules.  One of these is the Jingle Library for Video Chats.
Google include this Protocol in their Video Plug-in for web Browsers.
I don't have a Facebook account and cannot tell you if Facebook uses Flash or a similar plug-in for web browsers.
iChat and Messages use a protocol called Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) to make Audio Only, Video and Screen Sharing Connections.
SIP is used with Voice over IP apps (VoIP) such as software phones that can use SIP.
Skype also uses SIP but is not compatible with iChat or Messages
What this means is that iChat/Messages will Video or Audio Only or Screen Share to other Macs using iChat or Messages apps irrespective if they are using Jabber based or AIM based names/IDs
What it will not do is connect to PCs using the standalone App called GoogleTalk or to Web Browser logins (on any Platform) of Jabber apps on any platform.
So a Login to Google Chat via a Login to Google Mail's Web Page or iGoogle with the Video Plug-in is likely to show you your Buddies available for Video chats where as iChat to Messages will not.
As Facebook is also a Jabber server the same things will apply.

  • Has anyone seen any issues with persistent Chat in the Skype for Business Technical Preview client? No Messages dispalyed.

    Hi all,
We are testing out the new Skype for Business technical preview client
with Lync 2013 and although we're not really users of Persistent Chat, I wanted to install this feature too so I added a server pool just to check things out.
I can post and even search the history (which shows results), but apart from seeing my immediate post, when I close the room a re-enter I see nothing. I get a notifications that there are new posts, but clicking "Read" button also does nothing.
We're off for Easter and I wont have access to another Lync 2013 client until we return, so I'm not sure if there is just something odd with my installation.
I would be interesting to see if other are having this issue.
    Cheers

  • I can no longer log into my ichat linked to my gmail.  right after opening up ichat, receive the following message:  lost connection with jabber.  the server has unexpectedly disconnected.

i can no longer log into my ichat linked to my gmail.  right after opening up ichat, receive the following message:  lost connection with jabber.  the server has unexpectedly disconnected.  how to troubleshoot?  thanks.

    Hi,
There can be many reasons why the Login is "up the creek".
Any break in the network at your end whilst logged in will cause  an issue.
A sort of discrepancy between what iChat thinks the state should be and what the server thinks.
If they don't agree the server will refuse to accept.
A Crash at the server end which does not log you out properly will also do it.
Any file at any time can be come corrupted.
Luckily with the iChat .plists they are recreated if removed with an iChat Restart.
If it were AIM you can also get your Account Suspended  and this will not log you in.
(It tends to happen from Chat rooms where people notify AIM about bad behaviour (as they see it) and you have to apply to get Un-suspended).
Most of the big IM services use multiple servers.
Sometimes these go out of Sync.
In the case of AIM this happens when they remove Old unused Screen Names from people's Buddy List prior to making them available for re-registration.  I am not sure if this happens at Google.
You seem to be talking about an account that has worked at Work and having new computer at home.
As I mentioned the Priority thing you have not said that it has coincided with the new computer logging in  (this will kick the work Computer out of Google whether you are logged in  on the Web Mail page or in iChat)
IN addition to that iChat stays partially logged in for Off Line IMs
This is done in the background by a support app called iChatAgent
If your Computer is ON but ichat is not started people can still send you Messages.
Instead of saving these on the server until you login iChat will start up.
Depending if the home Mac is effecting the Work Login it may be holding sway over your Login.
Using your girlfriend's login may have booted her Off Line where she normally uses the name/login.
The AIM Side can be specifically set to allow Multiple Logins and therefore NOT allow them.  If this happens you get a warning and messages to do something about it.
You do not get these in any Jabber or Google Login as the Priority setting is supposed to take care of it.
If the Login works at the Web Mail Login and on one computer then the .plist on the work computer is the most likely issue.
There is a small chance that a Corrupt Buddy Pic (Home Folder/Library/Caches/com.apple.iChat/Pictures) may be the cause.
Set this folder to icon view and also use the Finder's View Menu > Show View Options and select icon view.
This should show all pics as their icon.
    Check that all display properly.
At this point I would try a COMBO version update install of the last Update you did over what you have.
This often corrects hard to trace things

  • Persistent Chat Pool Behavior for Multiple Sites

We plan to have 4 Lync 2013 Standard Persistent Chat servers, 1 in each site.  They will be part of the same Persistent Chat pool.
Is there a way I can force Lync clients within a site to connect to its local persistent chat sever?  I am trying to accomplish this without a hardware load balancer.
Not sure if you need to know but our front end pool setup consists of:
1 Lync 2013 Standard server (Production site A)
1 Lync 2013 Standard server (DR site A)
1 Lync 2013 Standard server (Production site B)
1 Lync 2013 Stanrdard server (DR site B)
We are using pool pairing for DR.
    Thanks.

These are typically DNS load balanced.  If you want to force it, you'll have to have your DNS servers reply with the most local address.  This isn't an easy task with Windows DNS.  I can think of ways to hack it (keep the pool name out of
an AD replicated zone and use pinpoint DNS that would be manually updated for this).
That being said, I wouldn't kill myself over it.  The amount of traffic used for persistent chat is very low as it's really just text chat being sent back and forth.  Also, the real data is in the SQL server DB, not the PC role, so unless
you're splitting that across four sites, I'd just leave it.

  • Getting the Lync 2010 client to use 2013 Persistent Chat

We are migrating to Lync 2013 from 2010 and just testing the 2013 environment right now with a few users. Only thing left I need to configure is getting the Lync 2010 client to connect to the 2013 Persistent Chat server. Most of our users are Windows XP
so they can only use the 2010 client.
We did not have Group Chat prior to this so Persistent Chat is new to everyone. I created the Persistent Chat Endpoint in Lync 2013 per the article
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204901.aspx but now what.
The article tells you how to create the endpoint but that's it. What else is needed. Does a Lync user in 2013 need to exist that matches the SIP addresses in the command? The icon for Persistent Chat is not showing up in the Lync 2010 client so something
    is missing.

You still need this endpoint, as long you will Need Lync 2010 Chat clients. Without this endpoint, you will be able to login but could not find any chat rooms.
For login you use your normal Lync credential. Lync Chat server has not deployed before.
Have you  test to use the Pchat with this user on a Lync 2013 client?

  • Lync 2010 client connecting to 2013 persistent chat server

Since we never had Group Chat in our 2010 environment, I have no idea how it works and now that we have 2013 Persistent Chat, I am struggling with getting the Lync 2010 connected. The 2013 client works just fine as it is integrated into the client. I found
out Lync 2010 needs a separate Chat client to run along side the IM client.
I installed this client but from there I have no idea how to connect it to the 2013 Chat server. I created the endpoint on the Lync 2013 server according to the article
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204901.aspx but something else needs to be done. I just don't know what. Not even sure where to start looking. Many of our Lync clients have
to use 2010 because the OS is XP so I need to find out how to get these users to work with Persistent Chat.
I am not sure what the point is of creating the End point according to the article. I am sure its necessary but not sure how it fits into the clients using it to connect. What does the article mean when it says "Next, configure Persistent Chat clients
to use that SIP address as their contact object". Do you need Group Chat functioning in 2010 for this to even work?
The problem is we never had Group Chat with 2010 so I am sure there are some settings missing like DNS records etc...

If you have users running legacy clients (such as Microsoft Lync 2010 these users might find the default Persistent Chat URIs difficult to work with and difficult to use when pointing their legacy client towards the pool. Because of this,
administrators need to use the New-CsPersistentChatEndpoint cmdlet to create an additional contact object for the pool, a contact object that provides a friendlier, easier-to-use URI.

  • Co-location of persistent chat and monitoring databases on Standard Edition server

Hello, I've seen all kinds of different answers to this question around the web with conflicting answers.
We have a basic IM/Presence only install of Lync 2013 and now want to deploy Monitoring and Persistent Chat roles.
As per this blog, it states you can co-locate all of these on one FE server.
    http://windowspbx.blogspot.ca/2012/07/aaa-donotpost-install-lync-standard.html
Which does match what this TechNet article states:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398131.aspx
However, in the Blog, it says you need to install Full SQL Server 2008 in order to collocate, yet this goes against what TechNet says is possible, in that you can have all databases in one instance:
Each SQL instance can contain only a single back-end database (for an Enterprise Edition Front End pool), single Monitoring database, single Archiving database, single persistent chat database, and single persistent chat compliance database.
I guess my question is, can I simply install Monitoring and Persistent Chat using the same default SQL Server 2012 instance that was installed along with the Front End Standard Edition server (RTC instance)? Or should I create a new instance? Or do I need
to install a new SQL Server 2012 somewhere on a different server altogether?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Lync standard edition server has SQL express database by default to host RTC instance. Monitoring server required SQL reporting services, SQL express does not have reporting components part of it. Hence, you required full SQL version for monitoring
    and archiving deployment.
Technically, you can install full SQL server on the standard edition server itself. But , it is not recommended in production environment. It's good idea to install SQL server on a dedicated server for hosting monitoring and archiving database.
    Thanks
