• New 11gR2 DB Startup Problem In Finding pfile

I created a new 11gR2 database yesterday. First I installed the grid infrastructure and chose the followed the instructions for "Installing and Configuring Grid Infrastructure For a Standalone Server". The ASM DATA disk group was successfully created.  Then I successfully used the asmca tool to add a FRA disk group.
Here' s the current crs status, with me logged in as user "grid":
-bash-3.00$ crs_stat -t -v
Name Type R/RA F/FT Target State Host
ora.DATA.dg ora....up.type 0/5 0/ ONLINE ONLINE hostsrv1
ora.FRA.dg ora....up.type 0/5 0/ ONLINE ONLINE hostsrv1
ora....ER.lsnr ora....er.type 0/5 0/ ONLINE ONLINE hostsrv1
ora.asm ora.asm.type 0/5 0/ ONLINE ONLINE hostsrv1
ora.cssd ora.cssd.type 0/5 0/5 ONLINE ONLINE hostsrv1
ora.diskmon ora....on.type 0/10 0/5 ONLINE ONLINE hostsrv1
Looks good.
Then I try to bring up the database that successfully created last night. I log in as user "oracle" and try to bring the DB up:
ORACLE_SID=hostsrv1
ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle
ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db

It's true, the pfile is missing from that directory. If I understand correctly (new to R2) it should be there and be pointing to an spfile in the +DATA diskgroup.  Does that sound right?  I guess I should try to create a pfile that points to the location of the spfile but I need to know how to obtain that information (location of spfile) from the ASM instance.
Thanks for any help :-)

If you are sure you spfile should be in ASM diskgroup, then you can use utility asmcmd for connecting to this ASM instance, and later by browsing ASM catalog structure you can find the location of your spfile.

• Problem creating pfile on a shared drive directory.

Gurus,
I am trying to create a pfile from spfile on a shared drive and I am getting the below error. This is a 10g databases on windows 2003 server with the ASM.
SQL> create pfile='\\dev_server\c$\temp\initstandby.ora' from spfile;
create pfile='\\dev_server\c$\temp\initstandby.ora' from spfile
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-09210: sftopn: error opening file
OSD-04002: unable to open file
O/S-Error: (OS 5) Access is denied.
I gave full permisions to every on the temp directory and still I am having the issues.
Any help is appreciated.

Yet again an example of how easy it is to become 'guru': simply read the documentation and you will be one, because almost all people asking questions here are asking doc questions.
To make this work you need to make sure the OracleService<SID> is running as a domain administrator account.
By default Oracle runs using the local administrator, which doesn't have access to remote drives.

• Re: Problem with TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L632D TO04 stoped burning CD and DVD.....

Hi everyone! The problem is basically it just doesn't want to write/burn any brand of cd/dvd anymore . It worked just fine for little more than year and recently developed that problem. I'm sure its not the media brands as I've tried with many. The problem persists with Nero, Alcohol120%, MagicISO, PowerISO, Burn4Free, no matter what I try to burn- ordinary data, audio, programs or images. Note that I'm able to write with Alcohol successfully but there's actually nothing on the CD and Nero burns the data also but fails to verify afterwards and gives an error. Writing on DVD R/RWs is completely unsuccessful creating coasters. Also the drive opens itself with no reason and whenever it wants. I have Toshiba A200-1MB notebook running original Vista Home Premium. Here is an error report, hope it'll help. Thanks and any help given is much appreciated!!!

Try removing the CD/DVD Filters from the Registry.
When CD/DVD related software is installed (such as iTunes, Nero, virtual CD software), they install filters into the registry, which can cause compatibility problems.
1) Run Regedit (Start -> Run -> Regedit)
2) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3) In the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key, and delete the "LowerFilters" key.
4) Reboot.
If your CD/DVD programs stop working, you will need to reinstall them (preferably with an updated version).
This utility can remove the filters for you:
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/content/support/bulletins/su2065061/RmvFltrs.exe
Also remove any dust on the lens using a clean microfiber cloth.

I have tweaked the shared memory max as suggested in Oracle Manual / SAP Installation Guide, to no avail.
The listener is up already.
When I logged in as user ORA<SID>, and go to svrmgrl > startup nomount pfile=init.ora, it can startup without hassle.
Although the Product is not supported in PAM, we have another machine running smoothly for years with this product combination, so it's not the product compatibility issues.
But when using R3SETUP -f DATABASE.R3S, the phase stopped with the log pasted above.
Any ideas, gurus?
Thanks for help.
Best Regards,

Mr. Markus, there's no file on saptrace/usertrace.
To be sure, here's what I've done:

• Re:oracle 8.1.6 release 2 post installation problem  on linux

hi,
While installing oracle 8.1.6, the one of the optional tool database configuration assistant failed.(DBCA-00047 : unable to create destination directories).
so i tried to create database manually.
so i copied init.ora file as initdemo.ora and edited the file as follows:
db_name=demo
controlfiles=('/disk1/oradata/demo/system01.dbf','/disk2/oradata/demo/system02.dbf')
cdump=/disk1/oradata/demo/cdump
bdump=/disk1/oradata/demo/bdump
udump=/disk1/oradata/demo/udump
then i saved the file.
After that i created a script for database creation as "demo.sql" to create database at nomount stage.
i.e,
create database demo
logfile group1('/disk1/oradata/demo/log1.log',/disk2/oradata/demo/log2.log') size 1000k
group2('/disk1/oradata/demo/log3.log',/disk2/oradata/demo/log4.log') size 1000k
controlfile reuse;
and saved it.
I gave the following commonds at the prompt:
$export $ORACLE_SID=demo
$svrmgrl
SVRMGR>connect internal
connected.
SVRMGR>startup nomount
here i got stuck up as it is not getting starting the instance.
so i tried in SQLPLUS mode
$sqlplus
username/password: sys/oracle as sysdba
Instance is idle.
SQL>startup nomount
LRM-00109 couldnot open parameter file.
ORA-01078 failure in processing system parameters.
so can you tell me where iam going wrong.
Praveen
[email protected]

The problem is you did not provide a pfile location for the parameter file. Please refer to the sample shell script below where it makes the right calls:
#!/bin/sh
ORACLE_SID=test
export ORACLE_SID
/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.6/bin/svrmgrl << EOF
spool /u01/app/oracle/admin/test/create/crdb1.log
connect internal
startup nomount pfile = "/u01/app/oracle/admin/test/pfile/inittest.ora"
CREATE DATABASE "test"
maxdatafiles 254
maxinstances 8
maxlogfiles 32
character set US7ASCII
national character set US7ASCII
DATAFILE '/u01/oradata/test/system01.dbf' SIZE 100M AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 640K
logfile '/u05/oradata/test/redo01.log' SIZE 100M,
'/u05/oradata/test/redo02.log' SIZE 100M,
'/u05/oradata/test/redo03.log' SIZE 100M;
disconnect
spool off
exit
EOF
Hope this helps !

• Problems with Oracle 11g XE R2

Hi guys,
I've got a problem and try'n to solve it for abt a week now and tried many solutions.
My enviroment:
Windows 7 Professional SP 1 64-Bit
AMD Phenom II x4 940 @3.0 GH
4 GB RAM (In Usage while installing 40%)
Windows-Firewall is activated (but oracle.exe and lstnr.exe are configured as exception)
avast! Free Antivirus Version 2014.9.0.2018
Installation (both times with same outcome):
Installed O 11g XE 64-Bit in two different ways:
User I was logged in with is in Admingroup
Started installation via rightclick with administrationprivileges
I activated the administrators account and logged in with adminprivileges.
After that I've installed the 11g XE 64 bit
between both steps I cleaned everything up and restarted my system, registry was empty too and folder was deleted manually
at first I get this problem: Windows cannot find "http://127.0.0.1:%HTTPPORT%/apex/f?p=4950"
-> Manually changing %HTTPORT% to 8080
--> now I could doubleclick the shortcut, Firefox/IE/Chrome opens but 404 not Found-Error is returned
- OracleServiceXE, XracleXETNListener both are running
The listener supports no services
The command completed successfully
so Listenerservice is up and running but I cant find the http 8080-Service with netstat -a
so I started investigating a bit more:
Registryfolder: HK_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE is installed
following subdirectories are installed: KEY_XE, ODP.NET, OracleMTSRecoveryService
What I tried (both ways, starting with and without adminstrationprivileges):
I created two new DWORD-Values in KEY_XE ORACLE_SID_AUTOSTART and -SHUTDOWN both with the value True and stopped and started the services, nothing changes.
Inserted both users (Administrator and normal User) in ORA_DBA-Group, nothing changes, even tried to turn it off and on again
wanted to connect to sqlplus via console:

I looked into the ORA_BASE-Folder and looked at the oradat folder, it contains a XE-Folder which is empty, the admin-folder contains: XE/ and adump, dpdump and pfile, all three are empty (what does this mean? No DB at all created?)
I watched the ORA_HOME-Folder and found initXE.ora, oradba.exe, oradim and PWDXE.ora
I looked into the oradim.txt-Log:

--> bingo, 1st Issue: there is no spfileXE.ora, how can I create this? plus in the dbs-folder there is only a init.ora and no initXE.ora?
Looked into the log-Folder 5 files starting with clscX.txt (probably after every systemreboot? containing the following:

OK guys I've found it out:
Problem was, the XE.bat-Script couldn't add me to the ORA_DBA-Group.
Reason: my Computername and my username, both had a vowel mutation "ü".
Reason it didn't work at my business-laptop too, both have my "Ü" in the username
solved!

hi
did you install sw ide when you installed system drivers?
nvidesm can be nvidia ide drivers.
they work for some and fore som not.
they messed up my harddrives.
when installing you get asked if you want to install them or not.
i dont know if these ide drivers are included in 2.03 but thought it could be worth mention.
but they are included on the cd that came with the motherboard.
i read in here that you dont have to reinstall windows to get rid of them.
you only have to install system drivers again and say no when asked to install them.
bye

• DR8P Problems

Hi,
     I cant seem to get my DR8P to burn any more, on any media. Here is a log from Nero it seems to indicate the first failure as
Sense Key:  0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)
       Sense Code: 0x73
       Sense Qual: 0x03
A quick google (03/73/03) shows that this is due to either dirty media, incompatible media or faulty firmware. I have tried upgrading to the latest firmware on the msi website but this didnt help either.
Anyone got some smart suggestions

• Problems while creating a physical Standby

Hi,
I am trying to setup a physical standby database with oracle 10g.
I configured a specific log archive destination:
LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_3 = 'SERVICE=ORAMPSEC REOPEN=60 MAX_FAILURE=3 LGWR SYNC
VALID_FOR=(ONLINE_LOGFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=ORAMPSEC'
The service is reachable via network.
To establish the standby database I copied all datafiles from the primary database using scp. I also created a standby controlfile and a modified pfile. In addition I added a standby redo logfile which has the same size as the online redo log files on the primary database.
After starting the standby database in open read only mode I receive the following error message:
Database mounted.
ORA-16004: backup database requires recovery
ORA-01194: file 1 needs more recovery to be consistent
ORA-01110: data file 1: '/oradata/ORAMPPRD/data/system01.dbf'
I tried to recover using "recover standby database" I receive the following message:
ORA-00279: change 884348 generated at 07/18/2006 17:08:07 needed for thread 1
ORA-00289: suggestion : /oradata/ORAMPPRD/archive/1_30_595767954.dbf
ORA-00280: change 884348 for thread 1 is in sequence #30
Specify log: {<RET>=suggested | filename | AUTO | CANCEL}
Although I transmitted all archived log files from the primary database the archived log file mentioned above is not available. After hitting RETURN I get this message:
ORA-00308: cannot open archived log
'/oradata/ORAMPPRD/archive/1_30_595767954.dbf'
ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status

ORA-01194: file 1 needs more recovery to be consistent
ORA-01110: data file 1: '/oradata/ORAMPPRD/data/system01.dbf'
Here is a listing of all archived logfiles from the primary database:

Although there still seems to be something wrong, the archived log file transmission seems to work since there is no error reported on the log archive destination:
SQL> select status, error from v$archive_dest where dest_id = 3;
STATUS ERROR
VALID
And after I manually force a log switch I see that archived redo logs were applied on the standby database:
select sequence#, applied from v$archived_log order by sequence#;
SEQUENCE# APPLIED
27 YES
28 NO
28 YES
29 NO
29 YES
Unfortunately because of the recovering problem I cannot open the database to see if the changes were applied. So my first question is, how can I get the standby database completely recovered ??
In addition to this I was expecting that the changes to the standby database were made immediately since I choosed LGWR sync but I have to manually force the logfile switch. As I already mentioned a standby redo log file is available as well.
Thanks for your help,
Philipp.

Hi,
since it does not seem to work with just copying the datafiles I switched to RMAN. I created a full database backup from Enterprise Manager. Similiar to http://dizwell.com/main/content/view/81/122/1/1/ I tried to duplicate the database to the standby instance (running on a different server). But unfortunately I receive error messages that the files, previously created, cannot be found:
channel d1: starting datafile backupset restore channel d1: specifying datafile(s) to restore from backup set restoring datafile 00001 to /oradata/ORAMPPRD/data/1.dbf restoring datafile 00002 to /oradata/ORAMPPRD/data/2.dbf restoring datafile 00003 to /oradata/ORAMPPRD/data/3.dbf restoring datafile 00004 to /oradata/ORAMPPRD/data/4.dbf channel d1: reading from backup piece /opt/oracle/ora10/product/10.2.0.1.0/dbs/0bhoiq60_1_1
ORA-19870: error reading backup
piece /opt/oracle/ora10/product/10.2.0.1.0/dbs/0bhoiq60_1_1
ORA-19505: failed to identify file
"/opt/oracle/ora10/product/10.2.0.1.0/dbs/0bhoiq60_1_1"
ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status
SVR4 Error: 2: No such file or directory Additional information: 3 failover to previous backup
But when I crosscheck my backup inside RMAN it clearly shows the backup files:
RMAN> crosscheck backup;
backup piece
handle=/opt/oracle/ora10/product/10.2.0.1.0/dbs/0bhoiq60_1_1 recid=7
stamp=596207811
crosschecked backup piece: found to be 'AVAILABLE'
I already checked the file permissions, everybody on the system is able to access this file.
Do you know what is going wrong here ??
Cheers,
Philipp.

• HELP: Problem creating a new database in Oracle 9i

I am having difficulty in creating a new database in Oracle 9i, on Windows 2000. I would be obliged if somebody can go through the posting below and guide me as to what mistake I am making or what is the source of the problem:
I reproduce the steps taken by me.
I have decide the database to be called Mydb. I have made the following directories:
-- d:\mydb
-- d:\mydb\data
-- d:\mydb\control
-- d:\mydb\log
-- d:\mydb\bdump
-- d:\mydb\cdump
-- d:\mydb\udump
-- d:\mydb\archive
-- d:\mydb\pfile
-- d:\mydb\scripts
-- d:\mydb\exp
I copied the initoracle.ora file to d:\mydb\pfile\initmydb.ora, and made the following changes to it:
-- db_name = mydb
-- instance_name = mydb
-- control_files = ("d:\mydb\control\control01.ctl")
-- background_dump_dest = d:\mydb\bdump
-- core_dump_dest = d:\mydb\cdump
-- user_dump_dest = d:\mydb\udump
-- remote_login_passwordfile = exclusive
Also, I created a text file called d:\Oracle\Ora90\DATABASE\initmydb.ora with the following contents:
ifile=d:\mydb\pfile\initmydb.ora
At DOS prompt, I run the following command:
set oracle_sid=mydb
I run the ORAPWD utility to create internal password file at the command prompt.
d:
cd \oracle\ora90\database
orapwd file=pwdmydb.ora password=panther entries=25
I create a Windows service for the database as follows:
oradim -new -sid mydb -startmode a -pfile d:\mydb\pfile\initmydb.ora
I get connected:
sqlplusw /nolog
connect sys/change_on_install as sysdba
startup nomount # pfile=d:\mydb\pfile\initmydb.ora
create database mydb
MAXINSTANCES 1
MAXLOGHISTORY 1
MAXLOGFILES 5
MAXLOGMEMBERS 5
MAXDATAFILES 100
datafile 'd:\mydb\data\system.dbf' size 325m REUSE
AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 10240K MAXSIZE UNLIMITED
undo tablespace undotbs datafile 'd:\mydb\data\undo01.dbf' size
200m reuse
AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 5120K MAXSIZE UNLIMITED
default temporary tablespace temptbs
CHARACTER SET WE8MSWIN1252
NATIONAL CHARACTER SET AL16UTF16
logfile group 1 ('d:\mydb\log\log1.log') size 1m,
group 2 ('d:\mydb\log\log2.log') size 1m,
group 3 ('d:\mydb\log\log3.log') size 1m;
Now I get the following error:
create database mydb
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01092: ORACLE instance terminated. Disconnection forced
The data files, control file, redo log files are all created. But the above error comes, and I am unable to start the database. What is the reason?
Thanks in anticipation.
PS

Hi DENIS,
I have executed the following commands (which are in a script file),
1. sqlplus /nolog
2. connect sys/change_on_install as sysdba
3. create database ...
4. ...
When I execute the 3rd command, I get an error message as "ORACLE TERMINATED FORCED" and it will end the session. So when the next set of commands in the script are executed, I got the error saying "DATABASE NOT OPEN".
How to rectify this problem.
Thanks in advance,
Kiran

• I have one problem with Data Guard. My archive log files are not applied.

I have one problem with Data Guard. My archive log files are not applied. However I have received all archive log files to my physical Standby db
I have created a Physical Standby database on Oracle 10gR2 (Windows XP professional). Primary database is on another computer.
In Enterprise Manager on Primary database it looks ok. I get the following message “Data Guard status Normal”
But as I wrote above ”the archive log files are not applied”
After I created the Physical Standby database, I have also done:
1. I connected to the Physical Standby database instance.
CONNECT SYS/SYS@luda AS SYSDBA
2. I started the Oracle instance at the Physical Standby database without mounting the database.
STARTUP NOMOUNT PFILE=C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\database\initluda.ora
3. I mounted the Physical Standby database:
ALTER DATABASE MOUNT STANDBY DATABASE
4. I started redo apply on Physical Standby database
alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session
5. I switched the log files on Physical Standby database
alter system switch logfile
6. I verified the redo data was received and archived on Physical Standby database

Please help me!!!!

Hi,
After several tries my redo logs are applied now. I think in my case it had to do with the tnsnames.ora. At this moment I have both database in both tnsnames.ora files using the SID and not the SERVICE_NAME.
Now I want to use DGMGRL. Adding a configuration and a stand-by database is working fine, but when I try to enable the configuration DGMGRL gives no feedback and it looks like it is hanging. The log, although says that it succeeded.
In another session 'show configuration' results in the following, confirming that the enable succeeded.
DGMGRL> show configuration
Configuration
Name: avhtest
Enabled: YES
Protection Mode: MaxPerformance
Fast-Start Failover: DISABLED
Databases:
avhtest - Primary database
avhtestls53 - Physical standby database
Current status for "avhtest":
Warning: ORA-16610: command 'ENABLE CONFIGURATION' in progress
It there anybody that experienced the same problem and/or knows the solution to this?
With kind regards,

• CONTINOUS RUNNING SCHEDULED BACJOB PROBLEM IN ORACLE ENTERPRISE MANGER 11G

Hi Gurus,
I need your help,
Actually i am facing a problem on production server in which OS is Windows Server 2008 , Oracle 11.0.1.0
Data is approx 9GB.
What i do is previously i Schedule a backup job in OEM for 2 times full backup, in that schedule job is running on time and after completeion it executed sucessfully. but due to seme change in Backup policy i change the scheduling and remove the old one but now whenever i try to schedule autobackup the job starts on time but after no of hrs the schedule execution still show job is running , as my data backup is coming properly to the specified location which is not flash_recover_manager. One thing more my SYSTEM tablespace is approx 92.8 % full and may be this is the problem or controlf file sizeing may be the problem but i am not sure. Can u plz tell me can i add datafile to system tablespace to increase its size while db is up or change control file size & how. One thing more , when i try the same scheduling steps on my local machine or any other machine scheduling is done fine and it shows suceeded after completion.
At present i am not able to post snapshot of alertfile or pfile.
Can somebody facing the similar scenerio help me out.
plz help me as i am in need so much
Thanks in advance

I don't think that the system tablespace datafile is 92% being filled is a problem,but his what you can do:
set oracle_sid=<your SID>
I take it the path includes the correct <oracle_home>\bin
sqlplus / as sysdba
alter database datafile 'E:\path_to\system.dbf' AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 1M MAXSIZE 2000M; replace 'E:\path_to by the correct disk and path.
Changing a datafile size (resize) or changing a datafile so it is able to autoexextend can also be done by the EM itself.
The controlfile can grow over time but I haven't seen any problems with it's size.
Sorry, I can't explain the backup issue.

Hello guys, yesterday I installed 10g on my RHEL 5.3 successfully though some minor problems there, which I hope I will rectify on next installation.
I have few BIG doubts...
I learnt Oracle on windows platform. The directory structure on that platform is still in my mind and I can't relate it with Linux oracle's directory structure ...
Oracle Base is - /u01/app/oracle
Oracle Inventory is - /u01/app/oraInventory
Whats the basic difference between OracleBase, OracleInventory and OracleHome ?
I created directory as per guide here - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15660/toc.htm ... but when I install, few directories wont be used like /u01/oradata ...
Where are trace files, pfile, dump files, archive files, etc stores. I found control, dbf and log files under
/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/oradata/orcl/
Can you guys please help me understanding the Oracle File Structure on Linux. Its bit complex yet interesting. Waiting for some guides.
Edited by: sachinaddy on Nov 29, 2010 11:54 PMORACLE_BASE is an environment variable used as base directory for an OFA installation. On Unix systems, this is usually /app/oracle or /u01/app/oracle.
ORACLE_HOME refers to either:
a directory where the Oracle software is installed; or
an environment variable pointing to the directory where the Oracle software is installed.
Check current value:
$env | grep ORACLE_HOME
$env | grep ORACLE_BASE
ORACLE INVENTORY
inventory stores information about all Oracle software products installed in all Oracle homes on a machine, provided the product was installed using OUI or oraInst.
you can find the bdump,udump,cdump folders in the location
/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/admin/orcl/you can also check the bdump,udump location by
SQL> show parameter user_dump_dest
Had beffer refer oracle documentation:
