Photomerge: no final image

I am running CS5 and CS4 on a mac OS X 10.6.7 with 147Gb of available memory. Photomerge crashes even trying a 2 picture panorama, so I don't think it is a memory issue, and it happens with both CS5 and CS4. The whole application does not crash, it's just Photomerge. After selecting the files and clicking OK, everything seems to go smoothly, until it ends "generating output panorama". At this point, when it has to display the panorama, nothing happens, and the layers from the pictures selected disappear, as if nothing had happened.

Hi Chris,
you're right, I guess it's not a crash, but just a "no result". I just installed all updates, but I am still having the same problem. And I am experiencing exactly the same problem with CS4, even though three months ago I had no problem creating panoramas with it. Could it be that an OS X update may be interfering with Photoshop?
Best,
Jose

  • Photomerge: no final image after 10.6.7 with Nvidia Quadro 4000

Hi, as it was stated in similar thread I have this issue. / http://forums.adobe.com/thread/852821?tstart=0 /
But in tha threat mentioned above, problem was solved:
"3. May 18, 2011 3:50 PM in response to: Chris Cox
    Re: Photomerge Crashes
I think the problem was that there was an "ñ" in the file names. Now it works!"
    My file names are: _MG_7975_1z3.psd
So probably it is not a problem with the name. I have:
      Model Name: Mac Pro
      Model Identifier: MacPro4,1
      Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
      Processor Speed: 2.93 GHz
      Number Of Processors: 2
      Total Number Of Cores: 8
      Memory: 20 GB
    with Nvidia Quadro 4000 installed.
After I downloaded 10.6.7 I had a problem with my graphic card, new mac OS version erased something but I solved it when I found on Nvidia forum solution and downloaded new Nvidia 4000 drivers. But help me now with new problem: photomerge - no final image. I have a huge project with extensive using of that tool. Thanks in advance!

I think that it is the answer:

  • Why doesnt photomerge panorama show final image?

I load my panorama images with photomerge panorama, it works on them, aligns them, etc. but doesn't show final image.

It's really hard to tell without seeing the photos.
Is it possible you could post the the photos somewhere, so someone here might give it a shot?

  • Combining multiple layers into one "final image" then working on each layer's opacity to affect what the final image looks like

Ideally the "final" image would be displayed.  I'd go over to the layers panel and work on each layer, dialing up and down the opacity and see the effects on the "final" image.  This is in regards to interior real estate.  Normally I combine my images in Photomatix (different exposures) and have that method down.  But what I'd like to be able to do is to, say, strobe different areas of the scene while shooting maybe six images (same exposure), load those six into CS5 (File>Scripts>Load Files Into Stack) then proceed.
I've looked at a ton of videos on Youtube and searched CS5 Help and just can't find the answer to what exactly what I'm trying to do.  I can choose Edit>Auto-Blend Layers and that does indeed give me a final image (like in Enfuse or Photomatix) but I haven't found a way to then adjust each individual layer to affect that final image.  And I know there's a way, maybe coming at this from a completely different direction.  Thanks.

Ok I will take the last question first, since that is probably the easiest.end
A merged file or a flattened file is the same thing as a composite.
A merged file still has its transparency and data that is outside the canvas area.
A flattened file is a merged file that is converted to a background layer that does not support transparency or data outside the canvas.
A composite can be a merged copy of the existing layers if you use the multiple key strokes I mentioned above. Whereas a merged file is a composite of the original layers. So I personally use the term composite to mean a copy as merged and flatten already explain that process, no need to give them an additional term to mean the same thing.
Generally blend modes work by selecting individual layers before changing the blend mode. However you can group the layers or convert them to a smart object and apply a blend to that group or object.
Normally you set the blend mode as you work on each layer. But you could set all of them to overlay or reduce the opacity to 30 or 50 percent to see through all the layers, then adjust them later on.
I am not sure how it works on the mac, but on windows you can select the blend text box then use the up and down arrow keys to change the blend mode to see how it looks.
I recommend that you go through the free videos on layers, masks, opacity, and layer styles. This will help you dramatically. Also a few books on the subject will help has well.

  • Photomerge panorama in PSE 12 chops off part of final image?

I've tried several times to stich together 4 images in Photomerge panorama using PSE 12. Every time the right edge of 4th image (the right-most) is chopped off (I'd guess about 25% of the image is lost). I've tried the "Auto" and "Perspective" settings. The "Cylindrical" setting turns the panorama to garbage, with one image at the top and the other three at the bottom of the final composition.
I was able to stitch together the same four images in PSE 9 without any problem.
Anyone have any ideas on how I can get Photomerge to include all of the 4th image in the panorama?
    Thanks.

  • Photomerge exposure final is blurry

I've taken some photos bracketing from -1 to +1 (hold the shutter and it takes 3 photos) when I use photomerge exposure the final photo is blurry.  Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    That worked.

You may get better results by posting your issue in the photoshop elements forum instead of here.
With that said, When you open the raw image zoom in and verify that the image is sharp, do the same for each additional image for the merge.
I am assuming the merge will create three or how ever many layers (one for each image you selected) , There should be an eyeball or similar icon for each layer to hide the layers from view.
leave only two layers visible, then on one of the layers change the blend mode to difference, (should be top layer) If the two layers are correctly lined up you should see a black image. If they are not lined up you should see a weird color outline of the image. Moving the image until you get a pure black image will mean they are lined up. Change the top layer back to normal blend, hide it then do the next two layers, etc until you are done.
If anything moved while you shot your pictures that will show up as a difference, if everything else exept that portion of the image is black then your image is aligned.
I hope that makes sense. Whether you can do all the above or not, I don't know since I do not have elements.
    Good luck

  • How to batch process photomerge of an image sequence (cinemaDNG) + another image

I have an image sequence of around 500 images (.dng files) recorded on the Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera and I need to photomerge (layout set to reposition) each of those with one image in a seperate folder. Each of the 500 will merge with the same file (the aim being to basically extend the frame of a static video shot). Help with this would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Jim.

  • Using Photoshop's Photomerge method for image stitching in Labview

    Hello there,
I want to automatically stitch 10 overlaping images in a row (1D image stitching) within Lab View. For that purpose, I want to use Photoshop's image stitching algorithm "Photomerge".
So, I have made a VI (attachment: "OpenPhotomergeFunction") but it gives error 3005. In order to remove the error I have installed Photoshop's TypeLibrary.tbl and still I am receiving the same error i.e. error 3005. Just as a matter of fact I am using Photoshop CS6 trial version.
I need you guys to help me to fix my VI.
Full error description is also provided in the attachment ("Photomerging_via_LabView_Problem")
    Thanks in advance,

One thing you can try doing is not using an Automation Refnum, but instead configuring the Automation Open VI. To do that, right click on the Automation Open VI and go to Select ActiveX Class. From there, you can browse for the correct ActiveX class. If there was something wrong with your Automation Refnum that you passed to the Automation Open VI, this might fix it.

  • Final Image Quality in Film, Avid vs. FCP

    Hello all,
I'm heading up post-production and editorial for an independent feature film in pre-production. There are some potential producers that are interested in the film, but they're saying that (from their experience) the films they've cut on Avid have turned out to be visually superior than those cut on Final Cut Pro.
Now, I have no specifics as to the exact post-production workflow for either of the films, but I feel as though this statement is incorrect, as it is my assumption that give the same post-production workflows, the image quality would be the exact same.
I, for one (as the editor attached to the project), am for using a Final Cut Pro workflow, specifically because I already have a system set up:
    Mac Pro 2.66 GHz Quad
    5.0 GBs RAM
    Final Cut Pro 5.1.4
    Kona LHe
Cal Digit HD444 6 TB RAID
    Toshiba 26" HD Client Monitor
    1402 Mackie Mixer
DSR-1500 DVCAM Deck via SDI and 422 machine control
Personally, I have no issue with editing on either system, as I am well versed in both Avid and Final Cut Pro. However, this is an independent feature, and saving money is key. So why cut on Avid and have to rent a bay when we could cut on mine for free?
As far as finishing is concerned, we're planning on cutting back to the original negative (using Cinema Tools as our aide).
Can anyone give me a possible reason for why cutting a feature-length on film in Final Cut Pro would not look as good if it were cut on Avid, assuming the post workflow is the EXACT same?
    Thanks!
    Mac Pro Quad 2.66 GHz / 5.0 Gigs RAM / GeForce 7300 GT / 2.0 TBs internal SATA   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Specifically, the producer in question noted that in
the past, when using FCP to cut a feature, they had
    issues in the sound mix.
In my experience, I've never encountered a sound
mixer that's had a problem with an OMF export from a
FCP sequence when they create their ProTools
    session.
Additionally, they pointed out that only Avid offline
projects would translate to a Da Vinci DI suite, and
FCP wouldn't work as well. Is there any truth to
this? I find this hard to believe...
It sounds as if your Producers don't truly understand the details of a post-production workflow for a professional film. They either only know the brands that they paid for, or they tried to unrealistically accomplish too much with too little resources and facilities on prior films, and hung their hats on the lesser of two evils. If the sound was edited, mixed, and somehow mastered on AVID or Final Cut only...without going into sound design/final mix/mastering in their respective stages and facilities...either one has an equal chance of sounding crappy...and that's a good chance. As long as the editor knows what he/she is doing and how to prepare their work for the next steps, a final mix/design can be just as good coming from a film edited on FCP as from AVID.
FCP offlines can translate just fine for AVID online/correction and what have you as long as this is planned for, researched, and understood from the outset. Basic things like knowing not to repeat frames if you're going back to film negative unless someone's willing to pay for the interpositives/dupes and such...apply if you're preparing for onlining. Same goes for sound and knowing that the final mix is where things will really take shape. the post supervisor needs to make sure that the editor and online/color correction facility (if different) are in perfect communication with eachother, and that the editor will know how to prepare and export their project to be compatable with the Davinci or whatever. The people who perform this work should generally be very open to your questions and attention, because it makes their job easier and more accurate when they're getting things well-prepared, rather than having to redo things that should be in place already. I've prepared simple EDL's which have worked fine for onlining and correction...but I made sure, step by step, that I was delivering what they needed, rather than just making it and shipping it out, and I was there with them for the whole process in case something was missing or confusing. Went without a hitch.
For sound design, I only do a basic edit during picture edit for sync work and music selection/editing/matching, or a rought mix that will approximate the final results, but I won't use that for the actual design except for perhaps a scratch reference. The rest...EFX, ambiences, foley, etc. is done in Pro Tools, and I can simply bring the project in to a mix house and open it on their system.
I guess you could hypothesize that there's a smaller, younger, and less-experienced pool of talent using primarily FCP than those using AVID, since AVID's been around longer and is still the "standard''. And a well-established, fully AVID-based in-the-can to on-the-screen facility will be more capable than a single FCP suite. But that's not FCP's fault. As long as we know the steps that have to be taken, FCP is fully capable of performing perfectly in its step on the ladder, and moving the project to the next.
So again, it seems like the producers are inaccurately attributing their disappointments to machines, instead of workflow and compatability that can and should be controlled by people who understand it. It's ususally the Post Supervisor's job to make sure of that. Of course, not every production will have the right budget for this, but the producers need to understand where the money for post goes and what things (along with the people, of course) need to be paid for in order to get the quality deserving of a professional feature film. That's the producer's job...at least one them.

  • Final images in a saved .pdf from Illustrator don't look correct

    Illustrator Newb:
I'm making a design for a new product that comes in 3 different flavors. So I have 1 design, in 3 different colors.
I created all of my different parts for the design in Photoshop CS4 as .pdfs and placed them all in an Illustrator file (except for the text and a few shadows, strokes and such). I'm having problems with 1 of my placed images. It's placed 4 different times, and all 4 are either not showing up or are cropped in odd irregular ways. I have no paths or other hidden parts in the file that would cover them and it only shows up wrong when the Illustrator file is saved as a .pdf.
I went back to the original .psd thinking there was a problem w/ it, and resaved it under a new name and it still saves in AI all broken up.
Because I have 3 different flavors, I've done this in the other files, from that same orignal .psd and they turned out fine. And because this design is confidential I can't post pictures of the error to help describe my problem... The problem started yesterday and we're already behind production schedule.
But any help would be nice. Please and thank you!

    Also:
The first design I made in AI I saved the .ai file under a different name and changed the minor things I needed to make it the other flavor. I can't go back to that original file because I keep getting a Runtime Error when I open it. Not every file has this error, just the original.. THE ONE I REALLY NEED.

  • LR5 Graduated filters not applied to final image

I have recently had an issue using the graduated filters in the LR5 develop module.  While in the develop module (working with a raw image (panasonic GH3)), I can apply and use graduated filters without issue, but when I switch to the library module or export the image , the changes disappear.  I have shot a few test shots since and worked with some old images and I cannot reproduce this issue.  I have the same problem with every image from a single import.  There have been no changes in settings on the camera or in Lightroom.  I did use a new memory card, but I doubt that the card is the issue.  Attached is a screen shot of the image while in the develop module (right) and library module (left).  Anyone have ideas on how to fix this problem or avoid it in the future.

This is probably actually not the graduated filter not working, but the preview in Develop not being reliable when zoomed out. I've run into this with my own star images. This often comes up in images such as this with lots of fine structure. The noise reduction is not shown reliably in Develop when zoomed out. Then when you switch to Develop, it creates a good preview image that does have noise reduction enabled and suddenly your images appear different and less punchy especially when you have lots of little star points. It is actually more representative in these conditions. Make sure you zoom into 1:1 to really judge what is happening. At 1:1 the preview is correct in Develop when you have lots of fine detail. You probably have a graduated filter with clarity here? That is notorious for not previewing correctly with such images in Develop. To test whether the filter actually takes, do something extreme such as a few stops of exposure or so.

  • [CS3 / VBS] jpeg export - light horzontal line in final image...

    Hello,
I am having an issue when exporting jpegs.
When I output at the same dpi as an image placed on my document, I am getting between 1 and 5 horizontal light-colored lines showing up on the created jpeg. If I increase or decrease the output resolution by around 10 dpi, the line goes away.
For example, my document has a 300 dpi image on it, I export at 300 dpi, I get a light colored line horizontal through just the image on the page, not anything to the left or right of the image area. If I output a 310 dpi jpeg, everything looks fine.
This behavior happens whether called in code or exported by hand through the InDesign interface. I have also tried exporting to pdf, and it is find - no light-colored line. Last bit of information: The images I am using are both 24 bit color tiffs and grayscale tiffs. I have not tried it yet with other file formats.
Anybody else run into this - and if so, what can I do about it?
    Thanks!

I think I may have found out the problem here.
The problem areas are with the high contrast blue and red-and other areas but blue and red show the most degradation. Obviously, DV being 4:1:1 (Panasonic DVCPro, NOT the 4:2:0 of DV PAL) there is a lot of colour information missing and the blue channel always takes the heaviest losses on the DVCPro format.
The reason we've never seen this before is because we've always used the HVX cameras for either DVCPro 50 or DVCPro HD in this particular setup. In normal DV mode we almost always use our DVX100's which do have the different colour sampling and manage to smooth over this high contrast blue and red issue because of the sampling method and other factors like lesser quality optics, CCD blocks etc.
So, by colour smoothing the material, something which QT player appears to do by default (I'm awaiting a reply from my engineer friend at Apple to confirm this) the steppy vertical lines disappear and everything is back to normal. It doesn't matter if the material is stretched out way beyond it's original dimensions, with the colour smoothed it fixes the banding on the high contrast red and blue areas.
So the conclusion is format/codec, using a blue screen when a green one is far better suited to DV and subject material all conspired to produce the problem.
As for the 1024 x 576 quandry, you say it doesn't exist yet if you select the Widescreen PAL square pixel preset in AE, the frame dimensions are...naturally: 1024 x 576. We also produce all our graphics for our video's at SD at that resolution and they work a treat in FCP in the anamorphic projects.

  • IPhoto does not complete importing final image

So when using iPhoto *after last update of osx* My iPhoto will import however many pictures i have off my CF card, but when it gets to the *1 remaining* it just sits there and i have to force iPhoto to quit and then none of the pictures end up getting imported. I tried doing this with just a single picture import and the same thing happens. If there are 50 pictures it will get thru the first 49 pictures and on the 50th one it just sits there and never completes the import. Everything was fine before the latest OSX update.
    Thank you
    Chuckie.

    Chuckie:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try uploading the CF card to the desktop using Image Capture (located in the Applications folder). Then use the camera to reformat the card, not just erase but reformat. Then try again.
I'm not an advocate of having iPhoto do the importing from the camera and erasing the card. I prefer to upload (with a card reader) to a folder on the desktop where I can name the folder what I want the roll in iPhoto to be titled, and then drag that folder into the open iPhoto library window. This will save wear and tear on the camera's USB port and avoid bad uploads (and possible damage to the library) due to a low battery shut down during the import. Also there's been too many reports of incomplete uploads and complete erasures by iPhoto. Not a good situation to be in. It's just safer, IMO, to do the uploading and erasing of the card manually.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • N95 pictures/camera - totally white final image

Recently bought a N95 in the UK then moved abroad however now found problems with taking photos.
when taking a photo outside or in a well lit room all goes well with the focus and the green frame in the viewer but after capture the saved image is totally white (feels like too much light is let in). In the view prior to capture and the few moments after capture, the image is fine, but then changes to the saved image. i have checked all the camera settings/adjustments and they are on normal or mid way on the scales and also tried restoring the setting but no improvement. Photos inside taken with the flash are not so bad.
Does this sound like a fault meaning that the phone needs to be returned? anyone heard of this problem before ?
    thanks.

I have received the following replay from Nokia since my previous posting on this forum:
"Thank you for emailing Nokia Careline.
With regards to your enquiry, kindly be advised that your issue could be resolved by following the steps provided below.
    1. Press menu key , and select Tools > Settings > General > Factory settings. To reset some of the settings to their original values, select Factory settings. To do this, you need the lock code. (The Default one is 12345 or if you have changed it enter your own lock code) 2. Switch off your phone.
    3. Remove your battery and SIM card from the phone for 15 minutes.
    4. Reinsert your battery and SIM card into the phone.
    5. Switch on the phone
Alternatively, kindly be informed that we would like to refer you to the nearest authorized service center."
I've followed Steps 1 - 5, but it didn't make any difference to the camera. I've informed Nokia accordingly. They replied as follows:
" With regards to your enquiry, we have gone through the troubleshooting steps for the purpose of resolving all difficulties that you are facing with your Nokia N95. However, to further assess these issues we need to use our systems where our professional technical support teams will perform further analysis and ensure that the necessary is done.
