Photos and multiple iMac Accounts

In the new Photos application can I share a single Photo library among multiple users?

I'm afraid from what you describe that the hard drive is dead.

  • Photos and multiple Facebook accounts

I switched from iPhoto to Photos but am missing the multiple Facebook accounts option. As a family we've stored all our photos in Apple's Photos on our iMac. At times we like to share photos to our own Facebook timelines. With iPhoto this was simple. In Photos it seems we have to remove the current FB a/c under Apple preferences, and then add the other one.
Please let me know if there is an easier way.  Surely Apple is working on this?

Why not just access Facebook with the web browser in the time being?  I just tried that, and you can just click the "Account" button at the top, then "Log Out".  Ta-Da!

  • ITunes networked from G4 "server" and multiple iMac accounts

    HI all,
    1) I'm trying to house my iTunes library on my old G4 (Panther/10.6, w/ significant hardware upgrades) and connect my new iMac (10.9.1, multiple users).  The idea would be that the G4 is always on in a closet and music can be controlled by iPhones wirelessly at any time.  I'm wondering if I need to install some server software on the G4.  Currently, I'm able to use Finder>Go>Connect to Server and bring the iTunes folder onto my iMac desktop.  I have then changed my location of the iTunes library in iTunes>Preferences but it still doesn't seem to bring the Library up.  I'm not sure why.
    2) We have three iPhones and want to share the same Library and purchaces.  Any advice?
    3) I have wired speakers to a stereo receiver and Airport Extreme.  I know it's Express that has the speaker jack but is there another product that will wirelessly receive the music signal and direct wire to my receiver?
    Thanks in advance.

    I meant Panther/10.3

  • Back to My Mac and multiple iCloud accounts

I have an iMac at home and a Macbook I travel with.  Previously I had just one mobileme account, and BTMM has worked like a champ.  I now have multiple iCloud accounts in my household, as my wife mostly uses the iMac and I have the macbook.  I very much enjoy the seemless sharing of iCal calendars and the syncing of email accounts over multiple macs and mobile devices.  Trouble is to make BTMM work you have to enter preferences-->iCloud and log both computers into the same iCould account.  Surely apple must have forseen this sort of problem.  I as an indivdual if you have TWO computers and no one else uses them, it's no big deal to have everything on one iCloud account.  But with multiple users, with multiple email accounts, that's just not realistic.  I thought I may have found the work around when going to System Prefs-->Users & Groups-->and adding multilple Apple User IDs, but that doesn't work.
Any one else frustrated with this?  Similar issues with Photo Stream, it would be nice to view other photo streams.  Anybody got any ideas?  Other than logging out of my iCloud account when away....getting all the warnings about deleting stuff off my mac with regard to iCloud..... and logging into my wifes iCloud account?
    thanks
    x

I share this frustration. Over last weekend I needed to leave my computer at home while we went across the country to visit family. I found out there I needed to access my computer and finish an item before I was to return. We brought my wife's MBAir with us just in case, and good thing too. Either way, I was required to sign out of iCloud for her, then sign in as myself. This deleted all her iCloud contacts, calendar, mail, etc. Then it had to reload mine, then when finished i had to do that process all over again for her account. It would seem a quite simple task to allow multiple iCloud accounts to view a set of computers set to any of the iCloud Apple ID's. There is a function similar to this on my TimeCapsule. I can put both of our AppleID accounts onto that device and both of us can see our TimeCapsule and all attached storage while away from home (brilliant by the way), great for accessing movies I have stored on the TimeCapsule. Any results on how to make this work? Thanks

  • ICloud and multiple iTunes accounts

Not sure where I should ask this question but how will I be able to keep choices in music, apps and pictures separate on each device?  Right now, my wife has a separate iTuns account for her stuff I have a separate account for my stuff.  She has an iPhone 4 and an iPad2 and I have an iMac and an iPhone 4.  How do we keep things separate for our devices but still share music photos and apps?  I want us to be able to pick from the same music, pictures and apps but I am not sure how to do that and I cant really find a good clear/simple answer.  We do not have MobileMe accounts as were are rather new apple users.

I'd just sync stuff manually, so you can select what you each do and don't want on your respective devices. Apple invents all this whiz-bang-fantastic new stuff like iCloud that we're all supposed to love and use straight away to the exclusion of all else, but if they don't do what we want then what's the point of using them?
The old ways of syncing will still work just fine and - despite the fact that I don't want all the same things on both my iPhone and iPad - to be honest, I don't want all my music, photos and documents on one of Apple's servers somewhere anyway. That somehow feels like a real invasion of my privacy. So all the time I can continue to sync manually with a USB lead, I'll do so.
Just because Apple comes up with these new ideas doesn't mean that we all HAVE to use them!

  • Photos and Multiple Computers

So the way I had things set up in iPhoto is my iPhoto library sat on a 4x2TB Raid 5 array that is attached to a mac mini running Yosemite Server.  Worked fine for the Macs in the house.  It seems I have to change this with Photos?
When I try to access the Photos library from a Mac where the library is mounted on a drive over the network, it says the library can not be opened nor repaired.  Did something change here where Apple now wants the library on the local disk and won't allow access over a network drive?
Makes sense, as one of the benefits with Photos is the cloud integration and local Photo libraries can access other pictures through iCloud Photo Library, but I really want to keep SSD space on my office Mac Mini and Macbook Air freed up.
So...  Is there a way to access ONE Photos library for all my Macs or do I have to create local libraries and rely on the cloud for access across the Macs?

So it seems that when I create local libraries on the other Macs, the libraries are full size?  It would be nice if you have multiple macs, to have one be designated having the full library (along with the cloud) and the others have access to the thumbnails and lower res pictures unless you elect to grab it down from the cloud.  Duplicating libraries seems like a total waste.
Oh and sharing.  My wife now can't access the Photo library from here accounts because it's a different Apple ID.  Ideally Family Sharing would help with this, but there's no apparent way.
    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • Problem with iTunes and multiple user accounts in Windows

I am running iTunes on a PC (Windows XP) and have multiple user accounts. When I switch between user accounts and try to open iTunes, I get a message that tells me I can't open the program because another user is using it. Is it really true that I can only have iTunes open in one user account at a time on a PC with multiple user accounts ?!? If not, what am I doing wrong?

You are right, can only have one open. You have to log out of a user before logging in to another user to use iTunes. Do not use the fast user switching ability of Windows.

  • Apple TV G2 and Multiple iTunes Accounts

In our household we have multiple iTunes accounts so that everybody can purchase and download their own content for the various computers and devices that we own.
In the old Apple TV each persons iTunes account could be setup to allow streaming from their computer ( while only one could be setup for syncing and purchasing )
In the new Apple TV it would appear that you can only setup Home Sharing to a single iTunes account and that there is no way to see the other iTunes accounts on our network.
Is there something I am missing here? How can we stream content from more then one iTunes account to the new Apple TV.

I too suffer from the same problem.
My wife, son, and I maintain separate iTunes accounts/libraries on our individual Macs. I just purchased the new 2nd Generation Apple TV to replace my 1st Generation one. We set up Shared Libraries on each of our Macs, which we were able to browse/play on our 1st Gen Apple TV. My wife's account was set up on the device for the purpose of renting/purchasing content.
Now with the 2nd Gen Apple TV I no longer see any option for associating Shared Libraries, or browsing anything other than a single iTunes library because of it's reliance on the Home Sharing feature. Also, I can't easily pair up my iPhones/iPod Touch/iPad copies of the Remote App unless they too are set up using Home Sharing on a single iTunes account. Sure, with the promise of AirPlay we may one day be able to stream video (we can do audio now) from all our Macs, but without the ability to browse all our libraries from one simple interface (like we could on the 1st Gen) the newest Apple TV has limited usefulness for our family.
I don't suppose someone out there might know of a hidden method to re-enable this feature, or if it might be released in a patch in the not-too-distant future. I'm going to give it a few days, but this device will likely find its way back to the Apple Store it came from (minus the re-stoking fee).

  • Multiple calendars and multiple email accounts?

How can I associate iCal calendars to Apple Mail accounts?
Let's say I have two email accounts configured in Apple Mail ("home" and "work") and I have two calendars with the sames names. When I add an event to iCal, I want to use the matching email account for sending invitations, depending on which calendar I've selected. Is this possible? Otherwise my private email address might get used for invitations to work events and vice versa.

Wow, does anyone know how to do this? I really need to have multiple calendars that reference multiple email accounts in iCal... Is there a trick on how to do this? Or, is there a better place to post so Apple puts this feature in the next software release?

  • Mac OS X maintenance scripts and multiple user accounts

    Hi everyone
Just wondering how the default maintenance scripts scheduled to run in the early morning works with multiple user accounts. Our Macs at home all have multiple user accounts (one for each of us) and I'm wondering whether the scripts work their magic across all accounts (assuming the computer itself is switched on AND not asleep).
Also, is the behaviour the same regardless of Mac OS X version? More specifically we're using snow leopard, lion, mountain lion, and maybe shortly mavericks.
    Thanks!
    Joe.

The maintenance scripts run by periodic perform system tasks. They do nothing in a user's account (unless you modify the scripts or create your own). They are primarily designed for long lived systems (servers). There isn't any magic nor would a normal mac users find any differences whether they ran or not.
In all the operating system versions that you mention, the scripts will run when the computer wakes, assuming that the computer was turned on before the prescribe times.

  • .mac and multiple email accounts

I know this stuff has been posted before but I have not been able to get any of the solutions to work.
I have 1 .mac account that works fine. I have four email addresses registered under this one account. I have set up five accounts on my computer. One master/admin and then one each for myself, my wife and my two children.
First I would like them to be able to send emails from their own email addresses and not from the 'master'. It was suggested that I enter the email addresses when setting up the mail account in mail. However I am not able to do so, even with a new account. It works for POP and IMAP account types but not for .mac where that crucial field is blanked out.
If I use POP even though it is .mac then the incoming mail works fine but not the outgoing mail. I do get an option as to which address I would like to use on the outgoing mail... but since it does not go anywhere that is little use.
Actually I am not sure the outgoing will work anyway and I am not sure why. It appears to be identical to the one computer account that does work and that I have been using as a template....
I have been struggling with this for hours and I am going gently mad. Any/all help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks, Clarke Pitts.

    Clarke,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
This is easily accomplished in Tiger and Mail 2.0, but harder in Mail 1.3.11. Do you have any plans to upgrade? See:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/2.0/en/ml1114.html
With Mail 1.3.11, you can set your main .mac address up as an IMAP account, and add each of the other addresses to the email address field in preferences, but you must then use the SMTP of your ISP, and not smtp.mac.com.
You also can set each one of the .mac aliases up as POP account, and both check to never check for new mail, AND take the account Offline to prevent constant failure message if Mail were try and receive mail for that address. As you set up these alias accounts, you must push ahead, even after Mail tells you that you cannot connect -- you are not trying to connect, since it will be offline. But even tho' Offline, you can still send from each address (but only by using the SMTP of the ISP), and in this mode can have separate Full Name entries for each, and rules can be used to move emails from the .mac Inbox to each Inbox of these alias accounts.
If your ISP would be one the rare ones to limit From addresses to its own Domain, then this would not work.
    Ask any questions needed.

  • I am THIS-CLOSE to changing carriers/plans after almost seven years and multiple family accounts

How do I TALK (Verizon is in the phone business, isn't it?) about accessing part of my account to pay my bill as I used to every month? This is ridiculous. Verizon has received THOUSANDS of dollars from me and my corporate account over the years and I'm so (removed) right now I'm about to nix it all. If anyone at Verizon is scanning these emails, get back to me. My chat feature isn't even working online.

  • ICloud and multiple mail accounts...

... is something of a mystery to me. I have 4 accounts added to the mail app on my iPhone 4 and the unified inbox is a real handy thing. Saves me time since I don't have to check the accounts individually. This is great. Or would've been if it wasn't for the fact that I nevertheless still have to check mails in at least a couple of places every time I recieve one. If I read the new mails in the inbox they get marked as 'Read' right? Well it turns out that they indeed are but they are still not read according to the iCloud inbox. I still have to check all the newly arrived mail there as well since otherwise they mail(s) still appears to be unread. The badge is still in place on the mail icon and in the mail app it still shows the so-called unread mails. Even if I've already read them in the unified inbox. So in other words, the iCloud service is instead of being that handy little thing, a rather annoying thing since it apparently can't keep up with what's read or not. So I wonder if there's something I don't grasp here, settings-wise or whatever it might be. Anyone else experiencing this trivial but nevertheless annoying problem? I see no point in having an unified inbox if I still have to read the same friggin' mails twice every single time.
Here's hoping for a nifty little solution to this. And without any trolling please. I'm interested in serious answers. If you can't contribute with a viable answer or suggestion then please refrain from posting a reply.

How to Use Multiple iDevices with One Computer

  • HT5649 Our family has a shared computer with itune software. We have multiple apple devices and multiple itunes accounts. Can we share the computer and iTunes software to back up each apple device separately?

How do multiple users with multiple devices share one computer with iTunes software to back up multiple devices and individual iTune libraries?

    Hi Goodguy147,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The easiest way to have multiple users with multiple devices share a single computer is to create a User Account on your Windows PC for each person.  Each person should also have a unique Apple ID.  That will keep each individual's iTunes Library separate from the others and each individual can associate and backup several devices to their iTunes library.

    Choose Start > Control Panel.
Open "Add or remove user accounts." (If you're using the Classic view in Windows Vista, open "User Accounts," and then open "Manage another account.")
Select "Create a new account" and follow the instructions to set up the account.

  • Synching photos with multiple user accounts under Windows

My parents have an iPad which they share; they also have a PC running Windows 7 where they each have a user account. Within their accounts they each have photos, each in a two level hierarchy where the first level contains only folders (i.e. "<date> <subject>") and the second level contains the actual photos within each folder.
It's my Dad's account that actually syncs with the iPad. iTunes won't sync with a Windows 7 library so I can't combine my parents' individual photo folders into a single library. I tried creating a link in the base of my Dad's photo folder to my Mum's photo folder but then I discovered iTunes will only work with two levels of hierarchy so this meant all of her photos appeared in a single folder on the iPad.
They want all of their folders to appear at on the iPad with the photos each in the correct folder as (hopefully) illustrated below. Can someone suggest how this may be achieved?
    Thanks!
