Photoshop 9 PDF Security password

I have Photoshop 9 CS2 and it prompts for a PDF Security Password prompt on files I can open on other computers without a password.  I have forwarded the file to another (3rd) computer which opens it without prompting for a security password.  The file creator did not put a password on the file.  Any ideas what the fix is for this?  I tried a password removal program which states the files do not have passwords on them.
Thanks.

As Mylenium said once a PDF file's been created with a password, it cannot be cracked. You need to check with the creator of the file for its password.

  • Scripting 'Save PSD as PDF with password security' and 'Open PDF with password security' issue.

    Hi!
I'm now building an extension for Photoshop. The script (jsx) should save the active document as Photoshop PDF secured with a password. The PW is the same all the time and is set in the script. Then the script is to open the PDF with that same password. I need all this to protect the PDF from opening by a user, so that only the script has access to the file.
I've googled a lot. I've seen a similar topic on this community dated as 2012. It's not answered. With an only comment saying that saving with a password seems to be possible via GUI and not via a script.
    Has anything changed since 2012?
P.S. Illustrator .documentPassword and .requireDocumentPassword don't work in PS and ScriptListener still gives nothing :-/

    ScriptListener still gives nothing
Which probably means the task is (still) not possible to achieve with Photoshop Scripting.
Both Photoshop DOM and AM seem to have weaknesses/omissions that I would consider more relevant but if you regard the issue as crucial you may want to post a Feature Request over at

  • Acrobat 9.4.4 – PDF-Security

    Hi
i've create several password protected .pdf-forms
my latest one, the client is asking the following:
the .pdf is basically an order form, where a representative would fill in fields and then send the .fdf-file to my client.
the .pdf has password security enabled to only allow fields to be filled "filling in form fields and signing existing signature fields"
    all works fine
the "issue" (and my question) is:
the person receiving the .fdf-file (would open this of course with the correct .pdf-file in Acrobat READER) should NOT be able to adjust/manipulate/change the values that were put it by the person who sent the .fdf-file.
that to prevent changes - of course
is there some way to adjust the security settings so that a 2nd filling of the already filled form-fields is not possible?
    i hope that's understandable...
i really need this solved or at least some qualified answers that i can present to my client
    thanks very much!!
    Martin

    i make them Reader-enabled, yes
i'm not sure if i was able to describe the problem very well so i'll try it different
    - an order form is filled out and sent to somebody else
    - the receiver will open the file to see what was ordered
    - at this point, the fields should - if possible - not be fillable anymore
so the .pdf, that will be used to open the .fdf-file, could/should that be formatted to not allow any changes? is that possible?
if so it would make sense i guess, right?
1st file used to fill the .pdf-order-form is Reader enabled
2nd file to open the .fdf-file is secured so no changes are allowed (but can a .fdf file be opened using a .pdf that's secured?)
meaning the final opened .pdf (containing the info from the .fdf-file) would NOT be editable, is that correct?

  • PDF Security II

Hello all, I was reading a post about pdf security and the following script, created by Mike Brog, was mentioned. However, I do not know how to modify it to work for me. I am very new to scripting. Some of the elements look familiar to me, but I still do not know what to modify.
I should clarify that I need the script to export a pdf with the security settings already applied.
I have replied to the original post but thought I would get a better response by making a new post.
    Thanks Tom

  • Removing PDF Security Settings ??

    Hello;
    1) Out of curiosity, an expert responded earlier to a post in this forum suggesting that one can remove the PDF security settings by using Adobe Acrobat (NOT Adobe Reader).
    Is that true ??
    2) If I distribute a Read-only, password-protected, Blocked PDF file:
..a. Can someone with average knowledge of Adobe products easily remove the security settings of the file ??
..b. ONLY those with advanced knowledge can do that.  Correct ??
..c. Can someone with only the free Adobe Reader unlock the file and disable the password protection ??
    3) I'm sure someone must have posted here or on the internet a step-by-step how-to !!
Password protection of VBA, Word, Excel, etc. documents are known to be unreliable, and I suppose the same can be said about PDF.
    Any comments ??
    Monir
PS. If the topic is a bit sensitive, please reply by a PM. Thank you.

    1. Correct. Reader cannot remove security but Acrobat can (if they have the password).
2.(a): I wouldn't say "average but it can be done quite easily
    (b.) Not really
    (c.)No. Reader cannot remove security
    3. Basically without using some sort of Digital Rights Management, nothing is secure. There are free applications that can remove security and other PDF readers may even ignore it to begin with.
So if you absolutely need security, studay up on Digital Rights Management and get out the checkbook because it isn't cheap by a long shot.

  • Adding PDF Security attributes while PDF Merge

    Hi,
I am trying to merge multiple pdf document and want to secure the output using pdf security attributes.
Is there a way to achieve this while pdf merge ?
(I am able to do so while generating the pdf using FO Processor but not while merging existing pdf files.)
    Thanks in Adavance
    ~neeraj

    Hi Neeraj
What API are you using to merge the documents ?
If you are using PDFDocMerger you can use the setConfig method on the API to set the password.

  • PDF Security: A Question

I am searching for a 3rd party company that provides pdf password protection - pdf encryption. I am aware: nothing is hacker-proof. I just want a deterrent. I don't want a high end DRM company. I'm hoping to find a 3rd part product that fulfills the following criteria. Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you in advance.
    A. GENERAL IDEA: password protection that ties pdf file to the individual computer and prevents them from illegal sharing. (I don't care if they modify or print)
    B. User inputs password only once (unlike Adobe's), the first time he opens pdf file.
    C. User cannot duplicate file and place on another computer and/or place on a CD or other removable medium (and still have it function).
    D. Work across PC and MAC platforms
    E. Different password generated for each document
    F. Password protection works within the PAYLOADZ/PAYPAL environment (PAYLOADZ is a company that downloads a copy of the pdf file (original sits on a server), to user, as soon as Pay Pal confirms payment.)

Passwords tend to be forgotten easily and are a support nightmare and if licensing control is not used then there is nothing to stop users sharing them.
We looked at several DRM companies as part of a consultancy project for a client. FileOpen was complex and their history of security incidences looked rather shady. We talked to a couple of their customers who had endless problems when Adobe and Microsoft updated their software and after trying out the software ourselves gave it a bigs thumbs-down. We also looked at Armjisoft (don't think they actually have any customers) and their 'security' seemed rather dubious with a plug-out design, and LockLizard who use their own viewer. Most of the other companies we looked at did use passwords but did not prevent them from being shared - so there was no point in pursuing these further. We ended up recommending LockLizard to our customer based on feedback from their customers and our own use of the software - also it did everything our client required. Their pricing starts at $2495 which is a lot cheaper than some of high DRM companies who tend to specialize in document collaboration with PDF security on the side. However If you have $65,000 to spare you could always look at Adobe Policy Server. After all, this is an Adobe forum!

  • Form function, with security password on ipad

    Hi.
I've been trying to create an acrobat form with form filling function - for people to type in to during an event on their ipads. BUT we want it to have a secure password. The idea is that the people attending the events download the document prior to the event, but can't open it until they are given a password at the event. It means we can save the surprise.
The problem is, I can't seem to save a PDF document, with a fillable form function that you can save, AND give it a password. Once i add the password function, this seems to stop the form being fillable, on the ipad. I've tried loads of different ways to write it, and different versions of acroabt from 9, X, & XI. Tested it out on Acrobat Reader and on ipad. Am I going mad?
If it's not possible, are there any genius' (plural of genius?!) out they with an idea how to work round this. I don't think ipads can open .zip files either (had thought to password protect one of those!).
Oh orginal form created in Indesign 5.5, but also reopened and save in Indesign CC.
    Thank you

It doesn't work with Adobe Reader, which should be considered a bug, but it does work with Readdle's PDF Expert, which is not free.

  • PDF Security for passowrd protection of HP Printer stored document

I am trying to use the XML RTF template PDF Security feature to password protect printed checks so they are stored on the HP printer until the password is entered on the printer. We are sending the PDF directly to the printer (HPLJ3000) where it is being rendered.
I can send a non-password protected check ok. However when I send a password protected check, nothing happens - no stored job and no print. Using XML 5.6.1. When I publish and open the PDF from the concurrent manager it opens with a password request.

Many thanks to rainbowlady23 for taking the time to help others! It's people like her that the world needs more of! Thanks again, you're a jewel.

I have created a PDF and password protected it for view. However, when reading the PDF in Adobe Reader app on the iPad the commenting and annotation options are not available. Is there a way to allow commenting and annotation in the app while password protecting the document?

Is there a setting that needs to be set to allow the annotation features?  I set password protection to open and then password for editing and set it to Any except page extraction, but it still did not give the annotation option

Acrobat 9.0 Standard. Setting PDF file password from Excel VBA
Hi: I am trying to find a call to set the password of a PDF file that I am creating from Excel Workbook using a VBA call.
I basically have this Excel VBA code that works fine and creates a file.
                pBook.PrintOut Copies:=1, preview:=False, ActivePrinter:="Adobe PDF", _
                               PrintToFile:=True, collate:=True, PrToFileName:=PSFileName

                Dim myPDF As PdfDistiller
                Set myPDF = New PdfDistiller
                myPDF.FileToPDF PSFileName, "", ""
BUT, I need to set the password on this PDF file and do not see an option to do so.
Can you provide a solution for this situation? Appreciate your response in advance.
    Thanks.

There is no way to set password programmatically using any other dll or any other kit?
I am creating a bunch of PDF files for users programmatically but then they have to go in and set password themselves? This is very inconvenient for users.

If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then you can try going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you might see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email address then see if the instructions on this user tip helps : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4551
