Photoshop canvas screen

Hello:
Have a question regarding the canvas size of my Photoshop.  I don't know what I did, but it takes up the entire screen when I create a new file.  Is there any way to shrink it back down to the image I'm about to open w/o having a gray background? Thank you in advance for any suggestions!  -Ella

Sorry for not indicating what version of Photoshop I was using.  It's version Elements 6 and yes, I'm on Macintosh. It isn't a problem with the document window and docking.  It's already undock.  The problem I'm having is that when I get ready to create an image from the clip board, and click on New file, I get a huge gray window with the image in the center of the huge (gray) canvas. Before, I would get the canvas to be the same size as the image.  I would like that when I copy off the clipboard, the canvas be the size of the image.  As it is, I have to keep going to the lower right corner and shrinking the canvas to the proper size every time I get ready to do a new image, no matter what size it is.  Thank you.  -Ella

  • PHOTOSHOP Canvas Issues!

    Hi there!
    My photoshop canvas is showing at 100% but the images is really small, when I zoo into 200% it's the correct site but it is really blurry. I have been told that this is how you need to work for a macbook pro, but surely that is not true I can not work on a burly pixelated picture.
    SOMEONE HELP!!!

    A retina screen is one where the resolution is double that of a normal screen. 227 ppi vs 114 ppi normal. A real problem when building websites for normal screens.
    851pixels/227 ppi = 3.74 inches at 100% which would be 7 inches on my normal screen at 100%  You have a retina screen.
    Mac specs:
    Retina display: 13.3-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit display with IPS technology; 2560-by-1600 resolution at 227 pixels per inch with support for millions of colors
    Native resolution: 2560 by 1600 pixels (Retina); scaled resolutions: 1680 by 1050, 1440 by 900, and 1024 by 640 pixels

    Adobe now hides the editor - what looks like it is not - you want the editor hidden in the support folder - see http://forums.adobe.com/message/3955558#3955558 for details

    In general theory, one now has the Edit button for their posts, until someone/anyone Replies to it. I've had Edit available for weeks, as opposed to the old forum's ~ 30 mins.
    That, however, is in theory. I've posted, and immediately seen something that needed editing, only to find NO Replies, yet the Edit button is no longer available, only seconds later. Still, in that same thread, I'd have the Edit button from older posts, to which there had also been no Replies even after several days/weeks. Found one that had to be over a month old, and Edit was still there.
    Do not know the why/how of this behavior. At first, I thought that maybe there WAS a Reply, that "ate" my Edit button, but had not Refreshed on my screen. Refresh still showed no Replies, just no Edit either. In those cases, I just Reply and mention the [Edit].
    Also, it seems that the buttons get very scrambled at times, and Refresh does not always clear that up. I end up clicking where I "think" the right button should be and hope for the best. Seems that when the buttons do bunch up they can appear at random around the page, often three atop one another, and maybe one way the heck out in left-field.
    While I'm on a role, it would be nice to be able to switch between Flattened and Threaded Views on the fly. Each has a use, and having to go to Options and then come back down to the thread is a very slow process. Jive is probably incapable of this, but I can dream.

  • How to show a Canvas screen before exit the midlet

    If i want to show a canvas screen after user click exit to quit the midlet (after call the notifyDestroy()), any way to do that? thanks.

    Hi,
    you have to catch the exit event in the commandAction method and there you will display a YES/No form:
    create your YES/NO form:
    Form yesNoForm = new Form("Exit?");
    yesNoForm.append("You are about to exit the application!Exit?")
    yesNoForm.addCommand(new Command("Yes",Command.OK,1));
    yesNoForm.addCommand(new Command("Cancel",Command.CANCEL,0));
    yesNoForm.setCommandListener(this);
    !!!Note you can write your own command classes extended from the Command and add those to yesNoForm, that way you will have a better control on the application.
    commandAction(Command c, Displayable d){
    if (c.getCommandType() == Command.EXIT) {
    display.setCurrent(yesNoForm);
    if(c.getCommandType() == Command.OK){
    destroyApp(true);
    notifyDestroyed();
    if(c.getCommandType() == Command.CANCEL){
    display.setCurrent(mainForm);
    This should work.

  • Photoshop Elements screen size

    Hi, I have a new Dell XPS laptop (screen resolution 3200 X 1800) and have recently installed Photoshop Element 10. The problem is that the Photoshop Elements screens are extremely small. If I 'maximize' the Photoshop screens, the page fills the screen, but the contents of the labels are still extremely small, so small that I can't read them. What can I do to get the Photoshop Elements screens readable. Thanks

    Unfortunately Elements 10 can't handle hdpi displays. Only PSE13 can (with an update to 13.1); If you choose to update, download the trial version and see if that is ok for your computer display.
    Otherwise, I believe your only solution would be to set your screen to a lower resolution in Windows, which would have the effect on all other installed softwares.

  • Photoshop CS6 - Screen flickering when using brushes with new MacAir 2013

    Would the Adobe team please respond to the issues reported by several users:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5449199
    A number of users experience severe screen flicker in Photoshop CS6 when using any of the larger brush type tools (cloning, eraser, brush, spot healing, burning, and dodging).  As many on this thread are experiencing, it is awfull and unusable! The flicker is screen wide black boxes, sometimes the whole screen goes black.  It only seems to happen when we put the cursor over the image to edit.
    Hardware:  MacBook Air 13", Haswell 1.7 GHz, 8GB, 512 SSD Software:
    Photoshop CS6 v13.1.2 20130105.r.224, OS X v10.8.4 (and perhaps others)
    Looks like a CS6 is not compatible with teh new MacAir. Please look into this and advise.

    An update:
    I went to the Apple store and brought myself a more recent MacBook Air (13", 4/256 FYI, they were out of the 8/512 model).    I can't reproduce *exactly* what you're showing, but got the flicker to happen by resizing the cursor.    Also, while painting, the screen seems to stop updating except for the cursor -- not only is Photoshop unable to draw, but other applications stop drawing as well.  And a few times it hasn't even updated the cursor (while all other apps seem frozen).  That's not normal.
    When I see the flickering, I frequently see the menubar and other UI elements draw at the wrong location on the LCD, then black, then redraw in the correct location -- repeat in different positions and lots of "static" until I stop changing the cursor.  That's more evidence of a hardware or and odd driver issue.  The odd thing is: it doesn't happen all the time.  It's possible that the one we have at the office also shows the problem, but we didn't test long enough.
    I'm trying to reach out to my hardware contacts at Apple - but it's a weekend before a holiday, so we may not make progress immediately.
    One thing that would be useful here: the model of MacBook Air that you have that shows (or doesn't show) the problem.

  • Photoshop CS5 Screen Resolution

    <START OF RANT>
    Having recently decided to upgrade all my design software, I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I was (and still am) to find that after spending £231.12 GBP on buying Photoshop CS5 (upgrade from CS2) I'm unable to "Save As" and access some other features on my Acer Ferrari One due to the minimum screen resolution requirement. And before you start preaching that I should have checked, blah, blah, blah, and that it's my own fault then I only have 2 words for you: F*** O**!!! Why am I reacting like this? Simples, both Photoshop CS2 and Dreamweaver CS5 (for a mere £219.95 GBP) work fine on the very same netbook without any problems!!!
    Having spent hours upon hours browsing the tinternet (a.k.a. world wide web) and finding countless of people in the same boat as me making futile attempts to get Photoshop CS5 to work on a smaller screen resolution (the most common being 1024x600), it seems that short of changing the screen it will not work properly.
    Allow me therefore to put the following questions to the developers/coders of Photoshop CS5:
    1. Why do Photoshop CS2 and Dreamweaver CS5 work on the same netbook without fail yet Photoshop CS5 won't (unable to "Save As", can't see full screen of the "Save for Web" screen, etc.)?! WHY??? And please don't start with the lame excuse that they are different programs for different purposes because at the end of the day it's the same company. You don't buy a Mercedes C-Class and a Mercedes S-Class to find that the steering works on 1 but not the other, do you?!
    2. Are your heads so far up your place where the sun don't shine that you have forgotten about the fact that people FIRST pick a PC/Mac/Laptop/Notebook/Netbook and ONLY THEN PICK SOFTWARE?
    3. Do you want people to keep buying your software?
    If the answer to question 3 (above) is YES, then PULL YOUR FINGERS OUT, get your act together and do something about these issues, pronto. Else, rest assured you will lose custom to the competition (e.g Corel) - even loyalists like myself (who started & stuck with Photoshop since 1997 - that's 14 YEARS OF LOYALTY should one be incapable of doing the math). In this day & age any company would be wise not to make mistakes which could cost it market share - Adobe is making that mistake with Photoshop right now!!!
    </END OF RANT!!!>

    <Start of Reply>
    Why are trying to get Photoshop work on a display that is smaller then the programs was designed for. Adobe publishes screen requirements.  Next you'll want it to run on a iPod Nano so you can have it on hand all the time.
    <Just keep on RANTING if it make you feel GOOD>
    CS2 Works the Problem is all YOU
    So same to you and you foul mouth.
    Why blame Adobe Why not your net book maker fot not allowing you to set a resolution more then the display has. I have worked on machines the could the just scroll the display over the larger image that way you can see the whole image.  CS5 would work on a machine like that. Of course I want it always at hand!!! Do you even live in this world?! Have you noticed for example that phones have better cameras than the best camera available en masse 5 years ago let alone longer e.g. 10 years ago? Note how small it is!!!
    Of course I want to edit my pictures using the program of my choice and 14 years ago I did make that choice choosing PS, hence the decision to purchase the Acer Ferrari One - CS2 works like a charm.
    As to the point that I'm problematic, please read my post carefully before making statements that make you come across as foolish.
    Hobotor wrote:
    1. Serious ps users make sure their hardware meets their program's system requirements.
    2. If you decide to buy you bigger Mercedes and it won't fit into your garage anymore, I'd say that's your own fault.
    3. ALL software evolves, if you insist on using your old hardware, stick with the programs that were built to run on your old gear.
    1. OLD Hardware?! Please do your homework before replying. The Acer Ferrari One was released beginning of last year and is a top of the range netbook - more powerful than any netbook out there and any laptop that is over 2 years old. FACT! Even some of the new laptops benchmarked could not out-do this little beast. FACT!
    2. Unless one is buying a Mercedes Van or Truck it will fit in the garage (even the ML320 fits) - CS2 fits and so do other Adobe CS3 & CS4 products. So why not the PS CS5 - its no a Van or Truck. In fact it's more comparable to an S-Class.
    3. Hardware also evolves - it's getting smaller and more powerful. I could run PS on the water-cooled, Phenom X4 & NVidia GeForce 9800 GX2 powered stationary PC connected to a 32" LCD by HDMI, running Linux Mint 10 x64/Windows 7 x64 (dual boot) with MacOS X running virtually by use of VMWare on both. Instead I choose to be mobile editing my pics as soon as I have taken them (patience is not always a virtue)! As humans we also need to evolve and judging by most of the replies so far it's not looking good for human evolution (albeit some replies do make valid & intelligent arguments and are as such well received).

    To Julian:  You should return the software for a refund ASAP before you're stuck with it for good.

    You are right: I do mean to offend Adobe and hope they are offended!!! However, do accept my apologies for losing composure (and my manners along with it). Unfortunately, in this day and age it seems to be the only way to reach the audience of those who can assist with problem resolution of this kind. That is of course unless the very same decide to provide the PS CS5 source code which would enable me to address the issue at hand without the need to contact Adobe or rant.

    Not speaking for Adobe, I would expect that they want intelligent people to keep buying their software. They also make Photoshop Elements for someone like you. Photoshop is a professional image editing application used by professionals. Professionals do not pick up a cheap low-power netbook to do their image editing. Casting the concept of 'professional' aside, Adobe expects buyers to be literate to notice the system requirements prior to paying large sums.
    If all that you are doing is web design, you should be using GIMP, which is free, requires much less resources, and is better suited for preparing web images (PNG8 with alpha anyone?).
    RE: rants... GIGO
    In fact, it would be better for you not to speak at all considering your assumptious and pompous nature. Adobe will pay attention to this post as long as it attracts traffic (you can find a simple explanation of the term 'traffic' in this context using this link). As to your ideology of the professional image editor, it is of little interest here and beside the point. Thus, please refrain from participating any further in this discussion while not in a capacity to speak on behalf of Adobe or offer anything other than remarkable insights into what one should or should not use for image editing.
    If I have not replied to anyone, please accept my apologies - I will find the time to do so another day but I wouldn't want miss Love Never Dies at the Adelphi now would I.

  • "Display Unavailable" red canvas screen-forum solutions not working. URGENT

    I a few days ago I started getting, in the midst of editing, my canvas going red with the message "Display Unavalible" in it. After this, the sequence would not play. If I close the sequence and try to reopen it, I get an error window which just says "error:out of memory". I found this problem on the board and tried three solutions: deleting all of my render files in render manager (didn't work); trashing FCP preferences (didn't work); checking for any CMYK stills in the timeline (there were none, but there were greyscale clips, I removed them, still didn't work ); and making the sequence offline, then reconnecting all clips and re-rendering (that worked, then it happened again after working a while).
    I am in a very tight deadline situation for the screening of this film and must find a solution to this problem! Other sequences in the same project appear to play okay. It seems to be this sequence only. I have done a few things differently in this sequence than I have in others. Maybe they could provide some clues as to what might be causing the problem.
    1. I upgraded Magic Bullet for Editors and have applied several effects (problem started after installing MB, for what it's worth).
    2. I am also using Natress filters (including frame rate conversion/deinterlacing) on top of Magic bullet filters.
    3. I have dv source footage which I have enlarged up to 300%, sometimes with filters applied to those clips (yes I know this is highly unorthodox but this is a punk rock movie and I am experimenting).
    The last thing that I did was remove frame rate conversion from all Natress effected clips that also had Magic Bullet Filters on them, reduced all clips to 100%. Then when I when to reconnected the clips the **** thing did it again.
    Is there anyone out there who can help with this? I can pay for extra assistance if necessary!
    Thanks so much,
    Patrick

    Thank you for that, I also found this article, silently hoping that this was not the case. On one hand this is good news, as I can get it repaired for free, while on the other I now need to find a way to back up my data without my screen.
    As a side note the computer screen did light up last night, on a random restart. However, it once again will not turn on, and I may have lost my chance to back up my data. The symptoms fit a burned out video card, so I guess my next step is heading on over to the apple store.
    Thanks again for the article, I'll be printing it off and bringing a copy with me.
