PS. Anyone having issues with this forum software? I was running spell check and got this big blank box covering up a bunch of the message area.

Few of us are qualified to read a crash report, but the Adobe engineers who do need the entire crash report, not just the few lines you pasted here. Don't try pasting a whole crash report here, just make sure it gets sent to Adobe and/or Apple when the crash actually happens.
Thanks. With other software I've been able to just provide the thread that crashed and get feedback.

With 4.5 GB try setting the allowance to 70% or even 80%. Don't bother quoting absolute numbers, they change dynamically all the time, it's not a static figure. You are just allowing (not allocating) Photoshop to use up to that percentage of available memory at any given time, after the OS and any other running applications have taken what they need.
Understood. I've never seen the figure change so I was assuming it doesn't. The 2150 figure is 70%.
More meaningful would be to know how much available space you have on your boot drive and whether you have a dedicated, physically separate drive designated as your primary scratch disk drive, etc.
As I mentioned above, the boot drive has 115GB free, the scratch disk has 103GB free. In addition, the drive designated as the scratch disk is also the drive that has the working files on it.
Thanks.
PS. I do have quite a bit of experience with Macs and Photoshop. My post count here doesn't seem to show I've been here much... looks like after the forum change my post count reset.

Photoshop CS5 crashes when dragging a layer or trying resize it
If I paste a new image and try to move or resize it, PS crashes, even with very small files and with just a few layers.
This started a couple of weeksago and comes up more and more often. I have played around with almost all possible settings but nothing helped.
Sometimes it occurs once a week, sometimes 20 times in an hour,
WIN XP 32 bit, 4 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 9600GT 512 Mb RAM, Dual monitor view
CS5 with latest patch
Any help or suggestions?

Make sure you close and re-open Photoshop after having made a change to those settings.

Photoshop crashes when rearranging layers in layer window.
Photoshop crashes when rearranging layers in layer window. I'm using Photoshop CS4 Extended on a MacBook Pro purchased 5 months ago. I have tried restarting the computer. I am able to rearrange layers with the hot keys.
Boilerplate-text:
Are Photoshop and OS fully updated?
As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by keeping command-alt-shift pressed on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/onyx.html
Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)
If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of those may be responsible for the problem.
Does turning off OpenGL in the Performance Preferences and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue? -
AE CC crash when drag jpg and png files to comp
Hi I have noticed photoshop exports of jpg and png files cause AE CC to crash when drag these files to comp Same jpg and png exported from CS6 do not cause crash.
What exact version of Photoshop CC are you using? 14.0, 14.1, 14.2?
How are you saving the PNG and JPEG files from Photoshop? File > Save As? Save for Web?
In After Effects preferences > Media & Disk Cache, is the Create Layer Markers from Footage XMP Metadata option enabled? Does the problem go away if you turn this off?
A similar problem recently occurred with files generated from Illustrator CC (17.1):
http://adobe.ly/1jlIykQ
However, we have no reason to believe the same problem would apply to files generated from Photoshop. I am not able to reproduce your problem with PNG and JPEG files saved from Photoshop CC (14.2), either from Save As or Save for Web. So either the conditions of your problem are more specific, or it is not related to the XMP Metadata problem. -
Photoshop crashing when I open jpeg or create new
I recently upgraded my Capture One software to v.4 (which included the installation of microsoft .net framework. Now Photoshop crashes when I open a jpeg file or create a new.
I did notice that when it opens the Initializing Type Tool progress bar doesn't show up and I just noticed on the blue start up window something called "Building TWAIN" - I had read in a previous thread about a TWAIN plug in attaching itself to photoshop. Could that be my problem?
How do I find that file?nicolebelhum wrote:

How do I find that file?
It's in the plug-in folder!
Since you failed to mention either your OS or PS versions I can't be more specific. -
Photoshop crashes when I use the marquis tool.
Photoshop crashes when I use the marquee tool. As soon as I make a selection it crashes my computer (every time!) by either rendering the screen black or sometimes all white. I have to force shut down and restart. I'm using MacBook Pro OS 10.6.8 with Photoshop CS6. I am not in a position to update OS at this time. Is there anything I can do to work around this problem? It's extremely time-consuming and infuriating.
Here's the crash report, if anyone is able to make sense of this, I'd sure appreciate knowing what the problem is.

Kernel panics are not caused by applications, but by defective hardware or bugs in the OS and drivers.
Resetting prefs may avoid the settings that triggered the crash - but the cause remains in the hardware, OS, or driver code.
Since Apple is not going to update the drivers in 10.6.8, your best bet is to update the OS when you can, and hope the new drivers are in better shape. Unfortunately, it is also possible that you just have a bad GPU or video RAM - and fixing that would require replacing the video card or system (in the case of laptops or all-in-one machines). -

Thank you for any advice or tech support,This is actually Photoshop Elements forum. try posting it on Photoshop forum.
In case you have some scanner/printer etc installed in the machine it might be causing issue. Try launching with none of the devices attached and anti virus disabled.

Latest update, photoshop crashes when saving
Ever since the latest security update, my photoshop crashes when saving a file?? Usually 100% of the time, but on occasion it's OK with a really small file.(??)
Hi Susanbombay,
Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The10.4.6 update changed the AFP specification. PhotoShop CS2 uses the older OS9 spec.Does this happen when you're saving to an AFP mounted volume?
There are a couple of ways to sort this out.
1. save to your desktop and copy the files to the server.
2. roll back the AFP version to the one used in 10.4.5.
(contact off forum & I'll send the files to you) -

Photoshop CS5 crashes when dragging a new layer
I was searching the forum for similar problems, but non of the threads had a solution (except uninstalling and installing again PS CS5 or even worse - formatting my PC).
I must say that this problem is quite new. PS was working flawlessly for a few months. It crashes when I paste a new layer and drag it.
These are my specs:
* HP Pavilion 9750ej
* Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS with the latest driver 266.58 (I uninstalled the previous one, and had a clean install of the new driver)
* 2GB RAM
* 11.7GB of FREE SPACE on 320GB HDD (I know it's not much, but it shouldn't cause PS to crash, especially when I'm working with low-res pics)
I don't know how to create a crash-log, but I would attach if you could tell me how, and if it's needed.
Thanks! You haven't said what version of Windows you're running.
You don't need to do anything special to create a crash log; all versions of Windows keep this information already in logs. These logs typically keep information a long time, possibly all the way back to your installation of Windows.
What you want to do is to get into the Windows Event Viewer. On a modern system you can hit Start then type event log into the search box, then when View event logs comes up, click it.
A Photoshop crash will be in the Windows Logs - Application section as an Application Error.
You'll want to copy the textual description, which should include the Faulting module, and paste it here. Usually the Faulting module tells us what part of your system is failing.

Annoying layer "ghost" when dragging a layer
What is the purpose of this annoying new layer ghost that appears when you drag a layer in Photoshop CS5? It's very irritating, since it doesn't seem to serve an useful purpose, and it makes it difficult to align layers with precise pixel borders. Can I turn it off?
Video at www.toprival.com/temp/pscs5/dragging_ghost.movYes here a a lot of bad visual decisions been made at Apple within Cocoa. Personally, in most respects things visually are a move backwards, from Carbon. Screen refresh also seems to be poorer, and more clunky.
My personal least favorite visual feature: In Exposé, when you use Show Windows - this ridiculous, thick blue bar with nasty beveled edges appears. Looks like the result of a high school "Program Your Own Operating system" project. -
Photoshop crashes when loading a file or image
Using Photoshop cs3 on a PC with Windows 7 installed.
Major Problem: Photoshop gives no response when opening an image of any sort or psd file which ends out with the options to either close the program or close and find a solution online which gives no solution whatsoever.
PScs3 was working just fine when installed but after installing an NVIDIA plug-in did it start bearing some problems. When loading png files, a window normally appears telling me that Photoshop could not parse the file. After seeing this I went to uninstall the plug-in. The problem seemed to went away but shortly after was Photoshop crashing at random, and I do mean random. Starting Photoshop at first seems to nullify the chances of crashing but after either a short period of time or a long period of time will it crash when trying to open a file. Opening multiple files at once doesn't work either but when opening only one file into PScs3 will it cooperate until opening a second. I'm not sure if the plug-in is what caused the problem but I do know everything from there seems hectic. Every crash leads me opening PScs3 again with all of its settings reset from when I first exited normally.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program?
Unfortunetly yes I have attempted this and the problem still occurs towards cs3. This makes me fear that the entire program is glitched.
Do you have any other plug-ins installed?
I've checked and there are no other plug-ins attatched.
This is my last option before seeing to reformat my computer. If there is any input about the topic, now is the time.Just a hunch: change your default printer to something else (a locally attached printer, not networked) or "PrintToPDF", then relaunch Photoshop and try again.
It could also be a plugin (try disabling ALL third party plugins).
And it could be a bad OS install, a virus, etc. It may take a while to find.
