Photoshop pausing 2-3 mintues

Help! I just updated the most recent photoshop CC and it is running terribly! It keeps pausing for 2-3 minutes with whatever action I am doing. I have rebooted but it is still doing it. I am using a PC, i7-3GHz processor, 64 bit, lots of ram. Shouldn't be my system

I have this issue also.  I tested different files and it seems to be that Photoshop is having issues connecting to the external drive I am using to house the Photoshop files.  When I create files on the desktop, it doesn't freeze not matter what I do, even when changing the text files.  Not sure if you are using an external drive, but this seemed to be my issue.  It wasn't like this until I upgraded to the new update.

  • Scratch disks are full error, so photoshop paused....

    i received the scratch disks are full message while trying to save a large file. i hit okay, hoping there was enough space left to finish the save - alas, there wasn't.
    i quickly deleted some larger unused files, but photoshop is still 'paused'. when opening up the force quit menu it reads "photoshop (paused)" - i know i'll probably have to force quit and lose all of my progress... however, now that there is 18+gb free, is there a way to resume, or unpause, photoshop so it can finish the save?

    Hey. It's dicey at best, but you might be able to get out of it. If photoshop is still running, can you make a new document? If you can, hide photoshop, free up some space, then come back and make a tiny document, like 5x5 pixels. This will force a purge, and possibly let you deal with your important document. Since i don't hold a lot of hope for that working, here's a few tips to maybe avoid this in the future... Do you have more than one drive? If you don't, and you are doing any kind of serious photoshop work, you need to get one. This leads to the first rule: don't use your startup drive as a scratch disk. I have 3 other drives, each one set as a scratch, and the startup disk not specified at all. Another thing about PS's scratch system, is that it needs contiguous space to work properly. Another case for not using your startup volume, and also for getting an external, making it easier to defrag it once in a while.

  • Download for Photoshop Elements 11 pauses and does not resume

    Download Photoshop Elements 11 using Chrome.  After several hours the download pauses and does not reume.

    I downloaded Photoshop Elements directly from Adobe.  I used the download assistant provided by Adobe.  Since this post I have been able to complete the download.  My problem may have been a slow connection either from Adobee or at my end.  I discovered that I hade also been downloading a large Microsoft update that may have impeded my efforts to download Elements.  Thank you for your help.

  • Photoshop Elements 4 slide show pauses.

    I must create a slide show in Photoshop Elements 4.  I want to pause and speak to my audience, between slides, for three minutes, or four minutes, or five minutes, or longer.  It seems that 'between slide transition times' are pre-determined by PSE4,, with 2 seconds, 4 seconds and up to a maximum of 120 seconds, pauses.  Is there a way that I can determine the length of the pauses?

    I have to admit that my skills on DVD Architect Studio 3 are not as good as they are on Movie Studio 6. I cut my teeth on the first full blown version of DVD Architect [1.0]. DVD Architect Studio has so many more features and flexibility, it is amazing. The only bad thing about DVD Architect Studio that I can see is that it won't encode the audio in Dolby AC-3 format, which is the preferred format. If you use the audio defaults in the program, however, you will be fine unless you are trying to cram more than 60 minutes worth of stuff onto the DVD. Personally, I think that is bad practice anyway, because who wants to watch an hour of your slideshows!

  • Photoshop Elements 12 download paused before completion. Now what do I do?

    Earlier today I purchased a PSE upgrade. Before the upgrade finished the activitiy was paused. What can I do to get the download to complete?

  • Using CS-6 and printing to Epson 4880 Printer will pause about 20% of the way in on the print job for 2-3 Sec and restart. At that point it makes a darker band in the print. I have used other software to print with and id dosn't do it only in photoshop.

    Any one have a idea on the problem??

    Nobody can tell you anything without proper system info or other technical details like exact print and spooler settings.

    At 41%, Creative Cloud Desktop application tries to extract the downloaded component. Have we checked if there is any active antivirus running in the back ground that might be stopping it?? Try a new user account as well if the first step doesnt work.

  • My animated gif keeps pausing in captivate and flash

    Hi guys, thanks for your help.
    I made an animated gif in Photoshop CS4 and inserted it as an animation into captivate 6. The animation works (I played it several times by opening it with internet explorer and safari). But when I open it in Captivate the animation goes black for a split second-several times, before it reappears-several times. It gives it almost a "reloading" or pause look when I play it. The same in flash, but in Adobe Flash CS4 Professional the timeline shows black dots once in a while, as you can see in the screen shot below.
    See those black dots? I will insert a picture of what happens, when the player lands on one of those black dots:
    It's the same animation, but only shows a little. Like I said, it plays fine when I open it with an internet browser, it plays fine when I play it in photoshop, but it just won't work with flash or captivate.

    No problem. Building a simple animation in Flash isn't that bad. You could save each "frame" as an image from PhotoShop and then import these into Flash and place one frame at the time on a keyframe in the flash timeline (press F6 to insert a keyframe).
    If you want your animation to loop then you don't have to do anything as this is the default behavior. If you want it to stop at the last frame you insert a command in ActionScript to stop it. Select the last keyframe and hit F9 and type stop() in the ActionScript window.

  • Unable to save Photoshop files in original folder: file disappears

    Hi,
    At random moments when I'm saving layered Photoshop CS5 files, a message pops up with the following text:
    Could not save "\...\FileName..." because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access privileges. Use the 'Properties' command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file.
    Well the strange thing is that I'm the administrator, the only user of this PC and even when I set/check the properties of the folder containing the files this continues to happen. What is even more disturbing is that I have to save my file as a new file in a new location and when I check the original file, it is no longer in it's original folder.
    I save all my files to the local HD and I use an external device to backup my files. I regularly get notices on my backup device telling me that various files were deleted, but will be kept until I need the room. These are files which I did not delete, they are files which I'm still working on.
    I'm having to save to the original job folder first, save to the desktop when I get the notice saying I can't save, and then save back into the original folder when I can't save on the desktop anymore because of the same error message. I sometimes get a similar Adobe error message which is basically along the same lines, but I haven't noted the exact text yet.
    Recently I closed a file which I had saved and when I needed to return to it, it was nowhere on my computer. I'm very organised about file saving, so it's not a matter of saving files in the wrong place.
    I no longer run my back up continuously while I'm working because while it's great to have the peace of mind that I'm regularly backed up, my files can get up to 2GB in size and I think the backup running at the same time is slowing Photoshop processes down, so I most often pause it until I take a break. On this occasion, I had been running it while working (smaller file) and so I was able to retrieve an earlier version from my backup which saved me from having to re-do the job completely. I didn't get this problem when I was using CS5 on Vista, it's been since I've been using Windows7 and my back up drive.
    I only recall having had this problem with PSDs, but that could just be because these files can take up to ten hours to complete and there's a higher chance of getting an error message over a longer period of time.
    It doesn't happen very often by there has been the very rare occasion where two versions of exactly the same file have been visible in the original job folder (same name on both files). To check if files are where they're supposed to be or if they seem to exhist, I have to close the job folder and re-open it.
    I'll disconnect my back up drive while I'm working and see how it goes. It's not ideal, but probably worth a try.
    I don't know if there's a connection, but occasionally windows randomly sticks a lock on zipped folders which I create, regardless of the permissions I apply to the upper level folder they sit in.  I'm told by a friend that it won't affect other people accessing these zipped folders from other machines. I don't know if that's the case, I always change the zipped folder's permission to include 'Users' and that makes the lock disappear.
    I will run this file disappearance thing by Microsoft, but I thought I'd run it buy you guys first in case you can shed any light on it.
    Meanwhile here are my specs. If you have any suggestions on how I can boost my computer's performance for large format print work in Photoshop I'd be happy to know. It's not bad now, but faster is always more pleasant:

    The only time I've had anything like this happen, was in a new build after hooking the drives from the old system, but the permissions really were screwed up, and it was a straight forward fix. Is the machine networked perhaps? The files open in another app? I expect you answered this already somewhere in your forum equivalent of War & Peace. ;-) The lads on the Premiere Pro hardware forum can be disparaging about Dell and HP machines, saying their proprietary hardware and software are inaccessible, so I wonder if it is something along those lines.
    I’d definitely unhook the second drive as a starting point, or at least double/treble check its permissions.
    The only other thing I can think of is changing the state of ‘Save as to original folder’ in Preferences > file handling, but this is all very tenuous and straw clutching.

  • MacBook Pro is Running Slow w/Frequent Pauses

    I'm basically a new Mac user ... the transition from PC to Mac has gone well, but I'm quite frustrated at the slowness of my system. It pauses for several seconds frequently which is extremely frustrating; opening programs and files seem to take much longer than on my previous PC. I don't think this is supposed to be typical for a Mac, or at least I hope not! 
    After doing some reading, I installed EtreCheck to determine what may be the problem. But, because this is all new to me, I'm not sure what some of this means.     When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.  
    These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

  • Merge InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop together?

    Wouldn’t it be great to have everything you need in one app?
    Actually, there are currently some applications like this.
    Take a look at DAWs. They deal with recorded audio (similar to bitmap) and MIDI (like vector) at the same time.
    And if you are looking for a visual stuff you can check SideFX Houdini. They have several contexts for dealing with the data: 3d models (sops), various input data (chops), compositing context (you can do image color correction, layering etc.), shader context, programming, rendering contexts etc. And you can have each of them any place you want. This + the fully procedural approach makes Houdini one of its kind application that gives you endless possibilities to build complex effects, models and animations. You can even build your own tools, like city generating assets (as seen in Inception or 2012 movies). You can even write music and manipulate robots in this app (if you want to).
    So it is totally possible to fuse those apps together. Certainly it is a huge amount of work. But think of it: you now have to install Phantasm to apply Curves or Hue/Saturation in Illustrator, you have inner shadow in InDesign and Photoshop but not in Illustrator, you have good Paragraph and Character styles in InDesign but half-assed in PS and Illustrator, also grids, object styles, link management and so on. Wouldn’t it be great to have everything at once? Like in Houdini? You choose image and you can do what can be done with raster, you choose text and context changes to show what can be done with text. I’ve been dreaming about it for years.

    On Mac OS X and Windows, it's possible to easily switch from one OPEN/ACTIVE/RUNNING application to another, with a simple keystroke shortcut.
    So, in a sense, the tools are in one's toolbelt, ready for use, now. Or, from another view, the tools are in the equivalent of a Swiss Army Knife (SAK,) but not quite. Actually, it's usually awkward to switch from one SAK tool to another - depending on where they're located on the SAK body, some combinations of tools can be open at the same time. For example, the corkscrew, awl, or Phillips screwdriver can be open on the back, while a file, scissor, or eating utensil can be open on one or the other end of the front. The user can orient the SAK one way or another to use an open tool. A few tools can be removed, like the tweezer and toothpick, so there's a tad more flexibility.
    The multiple Creative Suite applications can be open at the same time. However, if the computer lacks sufficient resources, there's an awkward delay in switching from one application to another, while resources scramble to meet the users' requests.
    Perhaps the understood but unstated wish is that the tools were more-efficiently integrated, so that switching from one set of functions to another within an integrated application, would demand less from the resources, compared to the current model of switching from one standalone application to another.
    It's a fascinating wish. However, wish with care. Some SAKs used to have lifetime warranties. "If it breaks, we'll replace it." The problem is that when the broken item is returned, the user is without all the tools during the replacement. In the integrated-application model, the analog is when a bug hits, fixing it will require testing the complement of integrated applications to verify that the fix didn't break something somewhere else. Hence, users may be stuck with the buggy version longer, before a fix can be developed, tested, and certified.
    As hardware continues becoming ever-more powerful, eventually, pauses due to switching among independent applications will be less and less annoying.

  • How to run QT and Photoshop at same time?

    Hi there, does anyone know how I can keep BOTH my Photoshop file windows AND a Quicktime movie open and running at the same time. I am trying to follow a set of QT tutorial movies that I downloaded from a podcast (and I've also tried using a Photoshop Tutorial CD adn same thing happens). The problem is when I try to follow along by having a Photoshop file open, the minute I click on the QT all my extra Photoshop windows (layers, brushes, history, etc) disappear, leaving just the file. This is no good because what I'm trying to do with the tutorial is to duplicate what they are doing in those windows. Of course when I click back into Photoshop they reappear but by this time the QT movie has raced ahead and the minute I go to pause it .... Photoshop goes again ... is there a way to keep all windows to both applications visible ?

    Short of using a second monitor (mirror) there are a few tricks you could try.
    Open the QT file and shrink the display size. You can do this by dragging the "grow" window (lower right corner) or using keyboard shortcut Command-0 (half size).
    Adjust the Photoshop window to a smaller size and arrange the toolbars so you can "view" the underlying QT file.
    Next is to keep your hands off the mouse (except in Photoshop).
    The spacebar will start and stop playback of the QT file. Use the arrow keys (right and left) to "step" through frames.
    Your workflow might be something like this:
    Begin the QT file and pause it using the spacebar. Command-Tab (tab key) to switch to PS. Review the work and switch again via Command-Tab.
    It will take some patience and practice to get the right combinations.
    You can also gain some screen "real estate" by setting your display size to the highest possible settings. System Preferences/Displays is where you'll find these options.

  • Photoshop CS can't show the actual print size & other bugs...

    Although I have set in preferences my display's exact dots per inch (which is 92.72) , the rulers in mm and the real print size of the document, when I click on view print size, the document is displayed much smaller than the actual size! I have also set the printer (a virtual pdf printer) in A1 to avoid a possible scaling of the print size. So the software has all the required information, but still it can't figure out the actual print size!  What do you guys think about that? I personally think that the developers couldn't figure out how to do a simple task either!  Even though I work on photoshop CS occasionally, I have found too many bugs to mention.  The most frustrating one, is that it suddenly stops responding to key shortcuts! Then I have to select everything from the menus or save, exit, restart and re-open the documents -now imagine being in the middle of a complicated task...  Another huge annoying bug: When I "Select All" in order to copy a layer, if that layer happens to have some parts surrounded with transparency, Photoshop destroys their position and the image overall, by arbitrarily centering those parts in the pasted frame!!!  Also, too often everything disappears temporarily if I pause for a second while I drag a selection rectangle etc. They haven't even made the cursor capable to move in a gray background without being invisible!  So much for a "professional" expensive application!  Note I have installed the available patches for this version. I know it's a bit old but as I said, I work occasionally and I don't wish to pay hundreds of euros almost each year for a new version upgrade while I'm not even happy with the previous one!   BTW, on this thread editor when I hit "enter" to start a new line, the cursor goes at the beginning of the document!  Now, are the Adobe's web developers drunk or what?  Sorry, I cannot stand too much of stupidity right now...

    Hm, your readings seem to imply Photoshop thinks your screen resolution is just about 128 pixels / inch.  Not sure where it might be getting that number.
    For what it's worth, on my Vista system I mocked up an image as you described above:  An image of 3614 x 3196 pixels at 317.632 pixels per inch.  My monitors display 100 ppi, and that's what I have set in the Edit - Preferences - Units & Rulers.
    When I selected the zoom tool and clicked the [ Print Size ] button it zoomed to 31.48% and when I measured the display width with the ruler it came up 11-3/8", which is just about right.
    HOWEVER...  When I right-clicked the image with the zoom tool active, and chose Print Size it came up 8-1/4", which just happens to be about the same amount smaller than proper size that you're seeing.  Sounds like a bona fide buglet in Photoshop CS.
    I repeated the performance with Photoshop CS2.  It works fine in CS2 - the [ Print Size ] button and right-click context menu entry both put the image up the same (proper) size.

    Navigate to
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014
    Locate sniffer.exe
    and rename it ~sniffer.exe

    This solution was offered by Adobe chat support, after a very long and almost fruitless exchange. Apparently, the support tech finally asked around, and someone else in the room gave him the correct answer.
