Photoshop work space keeps disappearing

Every time I try to drag and drop art work from photoshop into another adobe application my photoshop window disappear and the only way i know how to get it back to quite the program.
This is annoying, if I'm half way though work and this happens is really distracting.
Is this a bug, or a new feature that I'm not aware of?

  • Photoshop CS2 Tools Keep Disappearing.

Can you hear me cursing and screaming from where you are sitting? I've had two unrelated problems the past few days, and as a result  have been totally stuck!!!
The most recent problem was  my inability to log  into the Adobe website at all.  It did not recognize my  user name and insisted my password was incorrect. But when I had  Customer support e-mail them to me, they were exactly what I had been using.  As a result, I was unable to  reach the forum to ask for help.
Same thing happened today, until I finally gave up and changed the info in my account. Then before I even had a chance to test them, I was logged in. Sure would like to know what happened there.
Meanwhile, I've been struggling with disappearing tools in Photoshop. I first noticed the problem several weeks ago, when the tools disappeared  after each individual action, requiring that I return to the widnow menu and reactivate them.
But it finally came to a head yesterday, when the tools did not show up at all after I clicked on them in Windows. All I could see was the small rectangle at the top of the  tool box, which links to an ad for CS4. Couldn't reach the forum yesterday, so I started Googling for help; found a couple of suggestions and somehow managed to rest the tools. Was feeling pretty proud of myself for  figuring it all out  . . . until today, when the same thing happened. But since  I was basically just pushing buttons yesterday, I couldn't replicate the solution.  Tried removing  the preference files  and clicking on reset tools, all to no avail. Then wasted 2 more hours trying to login for help.
sure hope my neighbors couldn't hear my shouts and screams.
I know  you guys can help me. Please don't let me down.

Very true. You'd think as much as they charge people for their software,
they'd give a better (free included) help and tutorial than they do. I have
Creative Suite 2, purchased new in 2006 and they already no longer support
it,  and won't hardly give a decent answer about it. Kind of have to find my
answers  from techie guys, forums, guess work, etc. I've had CS4 offered to
me for free,  but turned it down. I hope some of the competition gets far
enough ahead of the  game to take some of their market share...because all
Adobe is interested in is  the bottom line...big business, etc., not the little
guy in the trenches. Of  course, there is more available if you have a Mac.

    Thanks  Doug.
I don't know if anyone other than the first person who  responded to my
dilemma (whom I thanked) ever suggested a solution, but by the  time they did,
I had already solved the problem myself.
I should  have made a note of how I achieved that — but all I remember is
finding   a screen that asked if I wanted to restore  all the tools to
default.  After a few tries, I finally was successful and  have  been
    trouble-free ever since.
As for reading the manual . . . what  manual? The only one I recall seeing
was online, which has never worked for  me. While it's unlikely I ever would
sit down and read a hard cover edition  from cover to cover (because my
memory is not good enough to absorb all that  info and recall it under pressure
when I need it most). . . online help  has never worked for me, because it
requires jumping back and forth from   the help pages to the site of the
problem. In this case, I might have tried  it, but at the most critical times,
even the pointer was unavailable. A  plain, old  handbook would have
offered the best of both worlds!   I'm sure  not providing one was a financial
decision for Adobe, but for  the price they charge for the application, they
    could have afforded  it.

  • How do I restore the original Photoshop work space

Trying to copy the tutorial, I opened my own picture.  I idly clicked on the color swatch, and got plunged into a maze.  I clicked "Undo," but the work environment stayed the color management one.  It did not go back to start.  Then I clicked on the brush tool while trying to figure things out, and the brush dialogue box opened up and refused to go away.
How do I just click something and go back to the original work environment you are supposed to get when you open Photoshop?  Even closing the program and opening it again left me in gradient nightmare.
    Thanks.

Window > Workspace > Reset puts everything back into place for whatever workspace you have.
Essentials is the default workspace when you first open Photoshop.
If anything else is off, I'll try and help.
Worse comes to worse, do a Preferences Reset:
If you need a quick and dirty way to restore your preferences, here's a way you can do it using a keyboard shortcut on launch:
Windows - CTRL-SHIFT-ALT immediately after you double-click the PS icon.
Macintosh - CMD-SHIFT-OPTION immediately after you double-click the PS icon.

  • Photoshop work space

I'm a new creative cloud photoshop CC user.  How do you open the photoshop workspace.

Once you've installed the Photoshop CC application on your computer, and have installed the available updates via the Creative Cloud application, you start the application.  It's just another application on your computer.
If you'll be so kind as to give just a bit more information about what kind of system you have, I'm sure someone will be able to provide a bit more specific information about just how to do that.

  • Space on boot volume keeps disappearing - crisis

One of my customers has a Mac Pro running OSX Server 10.4.9. It was installed last October and was running fine until a few days ago. It's running afp, firewall, nat, dhcp, dns, mail, print, web (for webmail) and windows services.
The only non-Apple things running on the machine are Now Contact/Up To Date server, Timbuktu and Retrospect. I have the same combination running on the same model hardware elsewhere without problems.
The boot volume had about 85gb free and mail has its own dedicated volume. The boot volume is not shared or used by anyone.
Then I had a call from the customer saying mail wouldn't send out. When I looked at the machine, the problem was that there was exactly 0 bytes available on the boot volume and postfix couldn't find queuing space.
I deleted all the rubbish - dmg files from various installs, other files 'parked' on the dekstop etc. and got back about 8Gb. I made a note to look at the machine on my next visit and thought that was it.
The 8Gb disappeared within a couple of hours. This time I looked a bit harder (partly because there wasn't any rubbish left to delete). Naturally, there were no files visible to finder that would account for the space used. My frantic but fairly superficial spin through ls -l in a terminal didn't show me any 'new' folders I didn't recognise. Looking at Activity Monitor, I saw that there was almost constant disk write activity going on, even though the users were apparently 'hands off' their machines. The only process using any cpu time was the Now Contact event server - so I pounced on it, thinking it was bound to be the culprit, being a buggy piece of software at the best of times. When I killed the process, the disk writing stopped.
I got on the phone to Now Software and they told me every place they THOUGHT the program wrote to - nothing. I restarted the machine and made sure the Now Software stuff wasn't running. Everything seemed stable, except I still hadn't figured out where the lost space was. However, it started again the next night.
Over the past few days I've been fightng a running battle to keep space above zero. I've now deleted everything in applications, utilities, library etc that I can live without and I've even gone as far as clearing every log file, but the space keeps disappearing. I'm now down to 150Mb and there's nothing left to delete so I have to find out where it's all really going to.
I have done a file search on all the usual combinations - visible/inivisible, created/modified/bigger than/smaller than etc but nothing stands out.
Is the server being attacked? I've shut down windows and web, and SSH was always switched off. I've been watching system.log without seeing anything obvious happening. The server has been restarted many times so it's not a virtual memory thing (I think).
I'm depsarate. Where should I be looking?

Good grief. First of all, thank you very mich for introducing me to du.
Here's what I I learned (and it's obviously an accident since no-one on site would know how to do this deliberately):
There is a volume (a real hard drive) called Archive. It's got about 90-something Gb of stuff on it. There are also three other volumes but here's the thing about Archive. I failed to notice in my earlier quick scan that /volumes contains an item called 'Archive' AND an item called 'Archive 1' - each being about the same size. When, in the finder, I deleted a folder from Archive that they could live without, it was Archive 1 that got smaller as seen by du.
going cd /volumes/archive shows me just one folder (which doesn't exist on the real volume but did once).
going cd '/volumes/archive 1' shows me what appears to be all the folders that are supposed to be there (on Archive). I haven't trawled right through and done an entry-by-entry check.
On impulse, I've just loaded Workgroup Manager and looked at Sharing. Under 'All', the left hand pane shows the volumes I'd expect to see (and nothing else). Buuuuuuttttt....... under 'Share Points', the volume we know as Archive is called 'Archive 1' - with a custom afp name of 'Archive'.
What have they done? I don't know what to delete at this point; and the trouble is that I suspended backups last week (because the catalogue files were amongst the things I removed to get some space back). I'll have to do a manual backup of Archive, verify it, and then try deleting something and see what happens.
What I'd really like to know is what happened and how. For example, would anyone like to try and build a hypothesis whereby the server was brought up with Archive off-line, then, after some other event, Archive subsequently came on line? Is this how you might end up with two apparent volumes with the same name?

  • My disc space is constantly disappearing. We keep deleting files, but the space we gain keeps disappearing again. Please help.

Our disc space  keeps disappearing. We keep deleting files just to keep the computer running, but the space we gain keeps disappearing. I had 10gigs of space less than a week ago, and today I have less than 1. We are not downloading anything. Whatever it is, is in the "other" category, which is currently over 113gigs and growing.

Do you use Time Machine? Have a read here:
    http://pondini.org/OSX/DiskSpace.html
FWIW, having only 10 GB of space is inviting disaster - 10 - 15 GB is to be considered an absolute minimum which the OS needs to function properly; more is much better. The disk space will change dynamically as the system reads/writes to disk constantly, every time you do anything (look at a picture, edit it, type a letter, etc).

  • ICal Tasks/To Do Items Keep Disappearing, plus search function doesn't work

Ever since I upgraded my Mobile Me calendars about two or three weeks ago, which as I understand makes my calendars now LIVE on the Mobile Me cloud instead of directly on my computers, I have had nothing but trouble with iCal. I use Bento with iCal for my project management system — I use the iCal Tasks for my basic information, and I added extra fields in Bento for other details I like to track. Anyway, the upgrade completely unhinged where those two came together so that the basic information that Bento was getting from iCal no longer matched with the extra details.
But that's no longer my problem. I fixed that easily by completely changing the way I track things now — I did away with the extra fields and decided to have Bento work directly and only with the information in my iCal app.
Still, another problem came up, the one I need an answer to. New tasks I entered through Bento, wouldn't KEEP on iCal. They'd show up momentarily, but a day or two later, they would be gone.
I thought I fixed it a few days ago when I discovered that Time Zone Support wasn't checked on iCal. I made sure it was checked on all my computers AND on Mobile Me because I suspected that Tasks were disappearing every time my computers synced with Mobile Me. It seemed to work fine after making sure everything supported time zones. I even synced a few times, just to test it, checked all calendars at all places, and whatever Tasks or To Do Items I added from within Bento appeared to sync fine, appear at all the proper places, at all instances of the calendars, AND stay put.
BUT I just discovered tonight, that the new Tasks I entered in the last week for one of my calendars have ONCE AGAIN disappeared. For some reason, though, the new tasks I entered for another one of my calendars managed to stay put. I have no idea why one calendar was affected and another wasn't.
The point is, I can't for the life of me figure out why my newly entered Tasks keep disappearing. Is it an iCal thing? Is it Mobile Me? Is it because I am entering the tasks/to do items from within Bento? What?
And the icing on the cake? The search function on the iCal app on one of my computers no longer works. I will search for a task/to do item that I KNOW is there and can actually see on the side bar, but it will not pop up in the search results. I searched online about how to fix that, but none of the fixes work — many of them, I believe, are outdated and so can't work in my case.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can fix these issues?

with iTunes and the apple.com web site, you don't hit
the Magnifing glass, after typing out what your
searching for, you hit enter on the keyboard. The mag
glass (Atleast in windows) is just for decor showing
you its a search field, its not an actual button like
it would be in most Microsoft/Windows apps
Thanks. I thought the magnifying glass was a clickable icon.

Id also like to know if Powerpc software will be supported? I have C&C Generals on disc but it doesnt run now mavericks is installed?!
    Annoying!

Regarding time machine, it probably took a full backup after you put mavericks on. To investigate, open Console, select "All Messages" and type "backup" (without the quotes). It will then only show you backup-related messages. If you're not sure how to read those, copy them and paste them into a reply here; we can investigate the situation.
I don't know anything about your PPC software issue, sorry.

  • CS5 InDesign and Illustrator keeps Crashing upon startup while Photoshop works fine

I installed CS5 on my iMac running Mavericks. Photoshop works fine, but InDesign and Illustrator keep crashing upon starting the program. InDesign specifically crashes when it "registers 224 plug-ins". Illustrator crashes almost instantly. Adobe phone tech support is not available because this is not a creative cloud subscription. Has anybody else encountered this issue?

Sorry it has been a busy few days in the office - but I still would like to get this program running...
Tried replacing the entire Adobe Folder - still not the answer...
I've replaced all these folders too that are appeared after successfully launching InDesign in the Guest Account (see images)
My preferences and cache folders in my main user account have a ton of files and folders compared to my guest account. Could that be the source of the problem? I can post screen shots if you think that they may be the source?
    Thanks,

  • Photoshop 5.1, work-space snaps randomly, snaps to top, work space snaps

    Hi,
I have a new 2.7 GHz iMac, intel core i% with 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. It has OSX Lion, version 10.8.4. I am running Photoshop version 5.1, which came with CS Premium 5.5.
My problem is that the work space snaps to the top of the PS work-frame every time I try to move it or re-size it. Because It will not let me re-size the window, or move it I Can't place multiple files on the desk top and move them where I want, because they always snap back to some place or to some size that is not what I wanted. I have done the following:
    Setting is Standard Screen Mode
Shut off snapping to anything in "View"
    Disabled "enable gestures"
    Shut off other programs running
    Re-booted
Re-loaded Photoshop 5.1 from the original disk
Run MacKeeper to optimize the machine
Disconnected my Wacom Intuos 3 Tablet.
The re-install fixed the issue for a couple of hours, but it returned. The disconnect of the wacom tablet also seemed to help.
This is a real problem and I need help. No other forums seem to shed any light on this. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

But you can turn it off by going to Window > Frame > Application Frame

I have photoshop CS2 on a mac 10.6.8 OS. I want to upgrade to Yosemite OS (10.10). Will photoshop work on the new OS? Is there an upgrade available if needed?    Can I reload it  if needed?

Photoshop was the last version compiled for the PPC cpu, not Intel. 10.6.8 kept it going with the Rosetta emulator, gone since 10.7.
    So, no CS2 won't work under 10.10
CS6 (permanent license) or Lightroom and Photoshop | Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan is the way to go.
