PHP OCI8 1.4.0 Alpha is now available

I just released an Alpha version of PECL OCI8 1.4 on http://pecl.php.net/package/oci8
The code is also merged to what will eventually be the PHP 5.3.2 and PHP 6.0 releases.
Documentation will appear on http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.oci8.php
in the next few days, if all goes according to plan.
From the changelog:
1. Introduce connection attribute functions:
oci_set_module_name
oci_set_action
oci_set_client_info
oci_set_client_identifier
These set values that are visible/used by the database. They
are useful for tracing, authentication and auditing.
2. Introduce connection attribute function:
oci_set_edition
Oracle 11g R2 "editions" allow multiple versions of DB objects
to exist at one time. By setting different editions, two
different versions of an application can run concurrently,
making upgrading easier and faster.
3. Set the DRIVER_NAME attribute of Oracle Database 11gR2
connections to aid application tracing. The value used is to
"PHP OCI8" followed by the OCI8 version number. Note the
version number may get truncated in DB views such as
v$session_connect_info.
4. Allow the oci_set_prefetch value to be 0. This is important in
some cases using REF CURSORS in Oracle 11gR2.
5. Introduce OCI_NO_AUTO_COMMIT as an alias for the OCI_DEFAULT
constant (which is not the default value) used by oci_execute().
6. Generate an error if an invalid resource type is used in
oci_bind_by_name

Docs for the new functionality should be pushed out to the mirrors later today. Currently the new pages are on the master http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.oci8.php

• Failed to install php-oci8 with instant Client for linux 64

Hello,
I have a 64-bits Linux box with RHEL4, and PHP version has been upgraded from 4.3.9 to 5.1.6. I try to make the connection to remote oracle server.
I download instantclient-basic-linuxppc-10.2.0.2-20060327.zip , and follow the instruction to
install it.
But when i try to install php-oci8*.rpm, no matter which i use:
php-oci8-5.1.6-1.el5.i386.rpm or php-oci8-4.3.9-2.2.el4.i386.rpm
The installation always failed due to dependencies errors with oracle instant client.
I also tried with some other packages like: php-oci8-4.3.9-3.el4.x86_64.rpm
All my tries gave me dependency errors.
sometime like:
error: Failed dependencies:
libclntsh.so.10.1 is needed by php-oci8-5.1.6-1.el5.i386
oracle-instantclient = 10.2.0.3 is needed by
php-oci8-5.1.6-1.el5.i386And I cannt find the right RPM for oracle instant client for linux 64 bits box, and php-oci8 5.1.6 64 bits.
I have been trying on this problem for more than one week, and so frustrated. I will appreciate if I can be guide on this issue.
Thanks in advance!

• Kodo JDO 2.5.0 now available

All,
Kodo JDO 2.5.0 is now available. Thanks, everyone, for helping out
throughout the 2.5.0 public beta period. You're all great.
You can get Kodo JDO 2.5.0 at:
http://solarmetric.com/Software/Purchase/download.php
Major changes include:
- Major query modifications. Unbound variables are now supported,
Collections can be used as parameters in queries, and several SQL
inefficiencies have been addressed.
- Custom fetch group support.
- Kodo now supports incremental flushing of data to the database.
This can be useful in EJB environments when using container-managed
transactions, in order to handle any flush-related exceptions
within the bean code. It can also be useful in conjunction with
Kodo's automatic flushing capabilities to accelerate querying when
the javax.jdo.option.IgnoreCache property is set to false.
- Added JDOException subclasses for certain interesting exception
types: OptimisticLockException and ObjectNotFoundException.
- Enhancement-time metadata enhancement has been improved. This means
that you may see some errors the next time you re-enhance your
project, but that's for the best -- they were errors anyways.
- Data caching framework now caches JDOQL query results as well as
persistence-capable data. This provides dramatic acceleration for
commonly executed queries.
- The data caching framework has been reworked to separate out the
data cache capabilities from the remote event notification
capabilities. As a result, 2.5.0 data cache configuration is not
compatible with earlier data cache configuration, and custom cache
extensions will likely need some level of revision. For details,
see the release notes in the Kodo JDO Developer's Guide.

• Nwrfc 0.0.4 (Ruby wrapper for NWRFC SDK using Ruby-FFI) now available

Please note that version 0.0.4 of nwrfc is now available. There have been numerous changes since the last announcement:
Basic server functionality
Comprehensive type support (except for new float types)
Metadata retrieval functionality for data containers
Activating/deactivating parameters for RFC calls
Please see https://github.com/mydoghasworms/nwrfc for the complete change log. The latest gem has been pushed to rubygems.org so you can update/install with ease.

Hi Ned,
I've just tested your library. It took me a while to understand how to do it, as I never used SWIG before.
Anyway this is what I did:
0. setup a NI USB-6008 with some AA battery connected to AI0 (see attached photo)
1. installed Cygwin (I work on Win2000)
2. setup .paths in the "vimrc" file.
3. run "make -f Makefile.swig "
4. run "ruby test.rb"
It worked, but didn't show correct values. I changed settings inside the file, but still wrong numbers.
I then tried to run other examples and I couldn't run them (I guess the fault is on my side in ruby).
However I managed to run acquireNscans.rb , and it worked perfect.
It took me quite long time today to do. I tried to compile it without installing cygwin, then I compiled it in cygwin, but SWIG seems to be out-of-date, etc.etc. but at the end of the day I've got some results.
$ ruby acquireNscans.rb
[1.38554652487558, 1.37531881852636, 1.37531881852636, ...
read 10, total time: 0.907, rate: 11.0253583241455
Aborted (core dumped)
Is there any forum/topic where others discuss issues or work on the code similar to yours ?
What I am interested in is a library that would allow me to use Ruby or Php to communicate with devices through GPIB, Ethernet , serial port, etc.
Cheers,
Jakub

• Camera Profiles and DNG Profile Editor beta 2 now available

Hi everyone,
Beta 2 of the camera profiles and DNG Profile Editor are now available. Please visit here and enjoy:
http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/DNG_Profiles
I hope to have more detailed release notes/changes for you soon. You are welcome to ask questions, but please note that it may take a while for me to respond.
Eric

Eric,
I followed very carefully your instructions for installing the new beta2 profiles and deleting the beta1 profiles, but have the same problems as many others. I'd like to provide a bit more information. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium and have installed Photoshop CS4, updated with ACR5.1 and Lightroom 2.1 final release. As others have described, the default for all of my images was set to one of the Camera profiles (Canon faithful beta1), but now the profile name in Lightroom is blank. I tried looking at the other profiles and it does indeed appear that the beta2 profile is being used, but if I then reset the image it now shows ACR4.4, whereas the image had been imported with the camera profile as default. Also, if I open an image in ACR5.1 that was specified to use the same camera profile, it now shows ACR4.4 and it is not using the beta2 profile of what I had been using, I can see this by selecting the other profiles. Going back to Lightoom, I guess I could select all my images and select the Canon faithful beta2 profile, but then the mark shows up bottom right of the image showing that they have all been edited/modified, is there anyway to get all my images using the profile I was using but the beta2 version, without this happening and how about new imports?
Thanks, David.

Thanks
Mudit

Maybe 4 or 5 years ago; but now the need to develop mobile ready sites or apps using HTML5, JavaScript and CSS has increased. PhoneGap is presently used more than before to the point that Adobe has recognize its popularity in many ways. Making it part of Dreamweaver is not in my opinion excess luggage. Developers have always the option to pick and choose what to use from Dreamweaver. Maybe a specific developer doesn't need the PHP features in Dreamweaver; that doesn't mean that feature has to be removed.
Most of the things we do with Dreamweaver can be done without it. Dreamweaver is there to help us save time and be more productive. This is why I feel that helpful features shouldn't be removed; instead they should be improved and solutions implemented to issues that sometime seem impossible to address.

http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2013/02/lightroom-4-4-release-candidate-now-availa bile.html

screw it.. i dunno... bad drivers, that's what i'm accounting it to. Nobody seems to know what the problem is anymore.
With that said, the card works wonderfully now =D
Someone on this board mentioned some third party drivers, so I went and found them. I had no troubles installing and have had no troubles with the drivers
since their installation a few days ago.
These drivers are not supported nor created by Creative (as far as I know). Use the drivers at your own risk.
First, go to this address and read up on their drivers and how to install and what not. All the posts you should care about are sticked, so read the stickies!
http://www.youp-pax.org/forumdisplay.php?fid=3&page=
I noticed that the links to their drivers are lousy/don't work. Some nice person went and hosted all their files on a different site.
http://hosted.filefront.com/robertmc84
Be very cautious when downloading their drivers from filefront. The host has numerous old versions up and the file names aren't always 00% copy/paste from
the YouP Pax site, so be certain you have the right file before downloading/installing.
READ THE STICKIED INSTALLATION GUIDE! Same thing as with the installing Creatives' drivers, if you don't completely uninstall former drivers, bad things happen.

• Filr Desktop 1.0.2 now available

Novell Filr Desktop 1.0.2 is available for download. This is an
important milestone for Filr and exciting news for those who rely on
the Filr desktop client.
We've updated the Windows and Mac clients with the following
enhancements:
Event-driven file synchronization simplifies the sync process. Only
the files changed since your last login will sync, meaning that your
files will finish updating sooner, and will use less of your computer's
horsepower.
Built-in dialogs that simplify collaboration and data sharing. Rather
than opening up a web browser each time you want to share a file or
opening a file to comment on it, you can now simply right-click on the
file and do this from your desktop.
Simple file properties summary that doesn't just let you see when a
file was last modified. From the File Properties, you can also see who
the file is shared with, who created a file and who modified it. In
addition, if you don't see someone on the list of people the file is
shared with, you can easily add them from the same place.
Sharing policies that simplify an administrator's job by
prepopulating the Filr server and user account information and
preselecting which folders users have access to.

• [Update: Version 0.0.2 now available]Noteo - system tray notifications

After being frustrated with the lack of non-gnome-dependant system tray 'widgets' for things like email and battery monitoring, I decided to have a bash at creating my own, initially only to notify me of system updates, but I realised that I could use the same place to display other things.
Main changes: plugins can now be installed system wide as well as locally, meaning modules can be packaged in the AUR.
Configuration files are now in ~/.config/noteo/ which is much tidier.
Coming soon:
Module which replaces notification daemon - I just need to tidy up the code and package it.
Update: 0.0.2 now available
Version 0.0.2 is in the AUR: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=15952
some plugins are also in the AUR:
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=16032
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=16033
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=16034
or can be downloaded from sourceforge
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile … _id=268802
As you can see in the status bar, when a 'module' want to tell you something, it flashes an icon in the system tray. If there is only one module wanting your attention, it flashes for about 10 seconds, then just displays that icon.
When there is more than one module wanting your attention, it switches to a generic icon. Hovering over the icon will describe which modules are attempting to notify you
If there is only one module active, clicking on the icon will bring up that module's dialog, if there is more than one module active, you will be shown which modules are wanting your attention.
You can also usually bring up the module's dialog by right clicking on the icon and choosing the appropriate menu option:
New feature: module authors can add icons to the right click menu
Noteo by itself has almost no functionality - it acts as a framework into which modules can 'plug-in'. 'Modules' are simple to make, and I hope that some of you will write some/improve mine.
To configure the modules, edit the module configuration files which will be generated on first run and placed in ~/.config/noteo/
Hope this is of some use to someone.
For those wanting to make new 'modules', maybe take a look at the source to the GmailCheck module, which is hopefully quite self-explanatory.
Last edited by bavardage (2008-03-30 09:14:15)

New alerts do not appear on the screen. The 'windows' in the screenshot are what appears when you click on the icon and a module wants your attention. New alerts cause the icon in the tray to change to whatever that module specifies e.g. on low battery, the 'BatteryStatus' module shows your icon theme's battery-critical icon (flashing initially and then becoming static - if there is more that one module wanting your attention, a generic icon is then shown)
Edit: actually the battery module does display a dialog box when the battery is critical, asking the user whether they want to hibernate or not, however this can be turned off. Noteo itself does not display dialogs, the modules can if they so desire. In future releases I do plan to implement something like libnotify notifications which the user can choose to activate. Also I am coding a module for noteo which can replace notification daemon.

MEI Portico lets publishers create custom branded UIs for their mobile and tablet apps on Apple, Google Android, and Amazon Kindle Fire platforms. Custom storefronts enable multiple gateways for showcasing user-targeted tablet content within the app. App administrators can enable search capabilities and organize their DPS folios as they see fit, so that navigation is easy and readers can effortlessly find the issues they want or are entitled to. Portico allows publishers to override in-app purchases for authenticated subscribers, and enables restricted distribution capabilities for corporate and educational institutions using Adobe DPS as part of their digital communications strategy.
MEI Portico 2.0 introduces custom canvases to the original Portico toolbox. Rather than having to rely on templates for their storefront’s landing view, designers can now create their own HTML designs to incorporate into an MEI Portico-driven interface. Using web design skills, designers have full control over every aspect of their app’s look and feel — from storefront layout to images, login pages to RSS or social media feeds, subscriber views to featured folios. And because administrators can launch canvases at a moment’s notice, implementing new features into your app can be completed without a time consuming app update.
"Custom canvases mean that DPS apps can take advantage of Portico’s robust feature set without compromising their brand’s look and feel," said Brett Kizner, MEI's director of new product marketing. "Portico 2.0 has delivered greater flexibility with the ability for our customers to design their own app experience on their app landing page."
