PHP setup - Testing server errors

Hi all,
I am into my first play with Dynamic web pages. I am trying
to get a database and dreamweaver to connect together. I have tried
a variety of settings to get it to work but everytime I seem to
come across a problem with the folder where the database are
located and trying to map to the URL prefix mapping.
My databse is located in C:/phpdev5/mysql/data/artist
I cannot fathom where to point the URL prefix too. (For
further info the local root folder is elsewhere and the remote
folder is my live website- I did try to get it to connect to that
but gave up and tried doing it locally for the moment).
Can anyone stop me from tearing my hair out.
Mark

> My databse is located in C:/phpdev5/mysql/data/artist
a MySQL database isn't in one place, it's a collection of
information stored
in the MySQL application. You interact with it using a
database_name/username/password.
The url prefix for the testing server is what's needed to
view the site
using the local server. Such as:
http://localhost/thissite/

  • PHP Local Testing Server Not Working!

    Hi Guys,
I've just set up my PHP local testing server, although its not working properly! If you could help that would be so wonderful!
    Here is my current settings:
    Local Site Folder: C:\XAMPP\htdocs\valsoo\
    Web URL: http://localhost/valsoo/
    Server Folder: C:\XAMPP\htdocs\valsoo\
    Local/Network
    Server Model: PHP MySQL
I'm testing the 'local testing server' with a file called site_check.php which works in the Local Site Folder root (C:\XAMPP\htdocs\valsoo\site_check.php) but fails to work when the file is within folders (C:\XAMPP\htdocs\valsoo\lesson01). Not all files work in the root either. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
    Thanks so much!

If site_check.php works, your local testing server is working.
What do you mean when you say that it fails to work when the file is in a folder, such as lesson01? What actually happens? What sort of files don't work in the root? Without more details, it's impossible to help.
If site_check.php is in C:\XAMPP\htdocs\valsoo\lesson01, you should be able to access the file through http://localhost/valsoo/lesson01/site_check.php.

I have created a video tutorial to show how to define a PHP

  • Testing Server error

    Hello~
I am working on a site in Dreamweaver 8, and keep getting an
error message about the testing server not resolving... but I don't
have a testing server set up! The Testing Server tab is set to
None. The host directory is set to "/", like it reads in the error,
but I'm not sure why it thinks this is also a testing server. Any
    ideas?
    Error:
The URL prefix / for this site's testing server could not be
resolved. This could be due to several reasons:
    1. You have specified a local root folder that does not fall
under the web server root folder (not the easiest way to test a
    site).
    2. There is no web server running on the URL. A web server
must be running in order to map pages through a URL.
    3. There is a web server running but no virtual web folder
has been mapped to this prefix. A web virtual folder mapping is
needed for local sites that aren't under ther web root
    folder.

The problem lies in the following:

The testing server folder must be inside the Apache server
    root. If you
have a standard Apache setup, this will be a folder called
    htdocs within
    C:\Program Files\Apache etc.

  • How do I setup a php testing server that connects to my web host?

My web host (webhostingpad.com) has php on it. I need to setup a testing server that connects to this so I can test my site locally.
    My questions are:
    1. Do I set this up as a local network connection or an sftp (same as my remote)?
    2. what information do I put in to make this work?

1024MB is enough to have 2 instances but You have to know what are going to be the requirements levels of those instances in order to check if your memory is enough.
The memory is a theme that relate Oracle SGA with RAM in the machine.
To have a second database server you have to make another installation in a different Oracle Home.
It is not the same to have 2 instances than 2 Oracle database servers.
Do you know what is the difference ?

  • Getting Error 404 when trying to open php documents in DW CS3 Test server

I am new to DW, php, MySQL and Apache. I have set up a test
environment but obviously have done something wrong. I currently
create my web pages from scratch in notepad and update my site with
a GUI FTP program, but I know with these new tools, I will
eventually be able to create the type of web site that I really
want and need. Every time I try to open any php document in DW CS3
using the"Preview/Debug in browser" button I get an error 404. The
browsers I use are ie7.0.5730.11 and Nav 9.0b2 . I know this may
not even be a DW issue, but I really am at an impasse. Any help
    would be much appreciated.

    Jharek Wolf wrote:
    > As I previously mentioned I am new to Apache also. Are
    you willing to
    > continue helping me?
It sounds as though you need to be taken through this process
    step by
step. Even though you say you defined a testing server, the
    fact that
you didn't have your documents in the server's document root
    suggests
your site definition might also be wrong.
First things first. Since you're new to Apache, what happens
    when you
    type
    http://localhost/ into your browser
    address bar? Depending on the
version of Apache, you should get an Apache test page or
    simply a page
that says "It works!". If you get neither, it means Apache is
    either not
running or that it has been incorrectly installed.
Assuming Apache is working, have you installed PHP? If so,
    put the
following code into a blank file (there must be no HTML or
    DOCTYPE -
    just the following line):
    <?php phpinfo(); ?>
Save the file as test.php in the Apache document root. Then
    type
    http://localhost/test.php into
your browser address bar. If you see a
page with masses of detail about your PHP configuration, PHP
    is working.
You can then move to the final stage. Create a new folder
    inside the
Apache document root. This is where you should store your
    site. If you
call it "mysite", these are the settings you need in the
    Testing server
    definition:
    Testing server folder: /path/to/htdocs/mysite/
    URL prefix:
    http://localhost/mysite/
Don't take "/path/to/htdocs/mysite/" literally. It indicates
    the
location of htdocs/mysite on your local hard drive. Use the
    folder icon
to the right of the Testing server folder field to navigate
    to it.
If you're new to PHP, you might find that my book, "The
    Essential Guide
to Dreamweaver CS3 with CSS, Ajax, and PHP" answers a lot of
    your
questions. It covers all the Dreamweaver PHP server behaviors
    in detail,
as well as teaching the basics of PHP and database
    maintenance. You can
find more details by following the link in my sig.

I have never heard of apache2triad, but I've just had a look
    at the
apache2triad site, which says: "It is recommended that only
    experienced
users, with a vast knowledge of how networks, and its
    components (Apache
Web Server, ect.) should install this software. It IS NOT
    your average
software; a lot of time, patience and effort are required to
    maintain
    such a server."
Setting up a local testing server is not difficult, but it
    does require
a basic understanding of how a server-side language like PHP
    works.
As I said before, you must always store your files in the web
    server
document root. According to the apache2triad documentation,
    this is C:
\apache2triad\htdocs\. Unless you store your files there, or
    in a
subfolder of htdocs, nothing will work.

  • Problems setting up testing server CS5 with existing PhP site copied to hard drive

A couple of years ago I dabbled in CS3 & PhP, but haven't touched it since 2009.  I still have WAMP loaded on my machines.  I'm now in a work situation where I was asked to see if I could make some simple copy updates to sites written in PhP.  I copied the entire sites over to my hard drive, and placed them in the WAMP www root folder, and followed instructions to setting up the site in CS5 (which is pretty close to the CS3 setup).  I made sure WAMP was running, and I'm still unable to connect. I am using "localhost" as part of the URL for the web server designation. I continue to get an "internal server error" message on these pages.  I am able to, from my browser, type in "http:localhost" and it appears that WAMP is running properly. And I do remember to start WAMP before I start a DW session.
So, I kept experimenting.  If I define a new PhP site and create a test document with simple PhP code, the connection to the testing server works and renders the code.  It's just the existing PhP site I've copied over generates the Internal server message.
Is there something basic I'm not understanding about viewing and manipulating a PhP site created by someone else using DW CS5?

The first question: on what platform? Windows - Mac?
I only succeeded in setting up a testing server on my Mac
with PHP and MySQL after reading a book of David Powers. On Leopard
I belief there still are problems connecting PHP to MySQL.

  • I am having difficulty correcting the Testing Server setup in Dreamweaver CS4.

I thank you for your help but I don't understand.
    1. At this time, I edit the web site locally.  When the changes are completed, then I copy the files to the remote (Go Daddy) server, with FTP.
Perfect. In that case, I'm not even going to try to change you to use Dreamweaver's in-built FTP as that will probably confuse you at this stage. In this case, go to 'Remote Info' and make it 'None' - remove all credentials from there - we dont need it configured within Dreamweaver if we aren't using it.
    2. Because my edits are local, testing of the files is local.  In fact, I normally disable the network connection, when I don't need it open.
Go to 'Testing Server' and make it 'None' and remove all credentials - make it blank too. Since you're not using any 'dynamic' services, we don't need to configure one. Your previews can happen via your browser from your 'Local files'.
    3. Go Daddy uses PHP on Linux servers for hosting.
Well, Go Daddy also gives you a variety of other options - but I'm assuming you've purchased a Linux hosting setup with PHP running on it. Let's not worry about PHP here because you're not using PHP to develop your website.
    4. Since I'm not adept with computers, computer terminology and computer configurations, I try to leave settings at default.
The only thing you'll need to keep 'as is' is your 'Local Info'. Other than that, remove both 'Testing' and 'Remote' configurations. You should get going in no time.
    5. I am unsure of the test server requirement.  The descriptions of a "dynamic" page are not clear, to me.  My web site uses,
         a. html,
         b. An XML data page for sorting my photographs,
         c. Spry cascading tables,
         d. Scrolling photo thumbnails,
         e. Links to pdf files and
         f. E-mail contact.
A regular HTML website is usually 'static' - as all the content you have within it is 'hard-coded' or 'hand-written' into it. A PHP/ ASP/ JSP/ CFM code is usually 'dynamic' - meaning only the master template is usually made with code. The actual content is fetched from a database or an external source. And to do this (to fetch data from a database), this type of code has to run on a server-environment. That is the only primary difference between 'static' and 'dynamic' webpages. Not getting into the details of it as I'm unsure if that's going to confuse you more!
If this is not clear, please see me web site.

  • PHP/MySQL connection / testing server maybe?

Problem - I'm unable to connect to a PHP database. I'm
working right now with tutorials from the DW CS3 Bible by Lowery,
but haven't been able to connect at all. And I wasted weeks trying
the same thing with an ASP connection.
The error message I'm getting now is '405 Method not Allowed'
when working through the connection dialog. I thought PHP/MySQL was
supposed to be easier & better than ASP/Access?
In going through the site setup, instructions for setting up
the site's testing server say 'click test to verify the connection'
but there's no button to click. What am I missing?
Is there some kind of easy test script I can attempt, as with
asp? Problem there was that I could do the 'timetest' sample, but
    nothing else.
I have gone through setting permissions and creating IUSR_my
computer name as a user - they seemd to work fine, but I still
    can't connect.
Thanks anyone, and everyone - my first post regarding
connection problems was on 8/22 and I feel like I have gotten
    nowhere.

  • PHP website displays on web server but only text shows on local testing server

Hi,  I am not a PHP programmer.
I tried to get the testing server set up in the DW site definition area but was unsuccessful so I am back tracking to first make sure I have a working testing server. So, here is the info:
I took on a new client with a simple PHP site, without any databases.
The site is up and running on the web.
I would like to eventually get it running on my local machine to integrate editable regions for use with Adobe Contribute.
I have latest version of WAMP installed running Apache version 2.2.11 and PHP version 5.3.0
I created a directory in the WAMP "www" project directory and it shows up  like it's supposed to when I browse to "localhost"
    Problem:
The home page of website displays text but no, images, styles, footer, header, nav links, etc.
Here is the code for the home page:
Welcome                         This is the content area. This is the content area. This is the content area.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have spent many hours on this.
    Regards

    Hi,
Not sure what you have going on there. One thing I would try is to enclose all your php code within <?php code here ?> not <? code here ?>
Also ADDT does not work fully with php 5.3.0 as this may also be your error. When you say it only shows text do you mean dynamic text values or just text that is not dynamic?

    Hello all,
I have no idea what happened, but my local test server went

I did not change any of the configuration files, I can load

even something as basic as David Powers' phptest.php page which is
a whopping 2 lines of code to verify the php version on my

PLEASE, I beg of you, if you have any suggestions, PLEASE

  • Setting up Dreamweaver CS4 with PHP testing server... Live View doesnt work

    Hello,
Im trying to setup Dreamweaver CS4 with a php website im
making. Ive setup the site information, and provided a testing site
(XAMPP), and i can see the fully rendered .php pages in the Live
View tab. However, say i change some of the text in the .php file
(say from <p>Hello</p> to <p>Hi</p>) and
then click in the Live View tab - the page does not update. It
seems to do something, bit just returns the same.
How do i set it up so, like with plain .html pages, you can
make a change to the source code and instantly see the change in
    Live View?
(At the moment i have to make the change to the source code,
save it, click Live View to cancel it, and then click Live View
    again).
    Background:
    Ive setup XAMPP (G:\XAMPP\)
    Ive setup vhosts in apache.
Ive stored my websites in G:\Websites
Ive set the testing server to G:\Websites\site, where "site"
is setup as a vhost and correctly displays when entered into a
    browser.
Ive set the url prefix to
    http://site/
Ive set local root to G:\Websites\site
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers.

Did you try using F5 to refresh the page? If that doesn't
    work for you,
then you'll have to drop and restart Live view. No need to
    save and reload
    the page.

  • Testing Server Setup Re: Webmatrix and Wordpress

I am new to Wordpress so what I did was to setup up everything through Microsoft Webmatrix.  Everything installed find for my Local Host Server.  As long as I load up the Webmatrix program first I can put the "localhost" adress in my browser and my Wordpress theme will load up fine.
The next step I did was to try to edit my theme via Dreamweaver CS5.  I followed all the Adobe on-line instructions for setting everything up.  Nevertheless when I press the live view button Dreamweaver keeps asking for the Texting Server which I thought I already had setup.  I pointed the "testing server" folder to the same folder as Wordpress (where the theme is also located via "My Websites."
Everything else seems to work and I followed all the instructions given by Adobe.  See:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/setup_testing_server.html
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/dw_wordpress_pt2.html#wordpress
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/dreamweaver/cs/using/WSc78c5058ca073340dcda9110b1f693f21-79e0a .html
Nevertheless when I press the Live View button Dreamweaver keeps begging for the teasting server.  I have the "server model" set to PHP MySQL.
    Thanks for your help.

Go to the "Site" menu > 3rd down "manage sites"> pick your site and click the edit button
Click the "Servers" tab on the left, this displays the sites you have, sellect your site and click the testing server check box.
When you press F8 make sure you press the testing server button to log onto your site.
Sorry about the French interface, Quebec laws!
    Hope this resolves your issue!
PS: you'll have to add a seperate entry for the live server in order to keep things seperated for Dreamweaver.
