Setting up Dreamweaver CS4 with PHP testing server... Live View doesnt work

Hello,
Im trying to setup Dreamweaver CS4 with a php website im
making. Ive setup the site information, and provided a testing site
(XAMPP), and i can see the fully rendered .php pages in the Live
View tab. However, say i change some of the text in the .php file
(say from <p>Hello</p> to <p>Hi</p>) and
then click in the Live View tab - the page does not update. It
seems to do something, bit just returns the same.
How do i set it up so, like with plain .html pages, you can
make a change to the source code and instantly see the change in
Live View?
(At the moment i have to make the change to the source code,
save it, click Live View to cancel it, and then click Live View
again).
Background:
Ive setup XAMPP (G:\XAMPP\)
Ive setup vhosts in apache.
Ive stored my websites in G:\Websites
Ive set the testing server to G:\Websites\site, where "site"
is setup as a vhost and correctly displays when entered into a
browser.
Ive set the url prefix to
http://site/
Ive set local root to G:\Websites\site
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

Did you try using F5 to refresh the page? If that doesn't
work for you,
then you'll have to drop and restart Live view. No need to
save and reload
the page.

  • Testing Server / 'Live View' not working

Hey guys, I'm trying to create my first e-Commerce site in Business Catalyst and having a bit of an issue with setting up testing. I've downloaded multiple basic templates from 'BC' and they all seem to be giving me the same issue.
    Issue:
When using Dreamweaver CC's 'Live View' (which seems to be a one stop shop for testing changes without them pusing to the live site) the encompassing template in a page is displayed correctly, but the content area always displays 'Page not Found'. Take a look at the attached image to see exactly what I mean.
I've contacted support and browsed the form, but it seems I am the only one with this issue. Again I've tried it with multiple templates on multiple computers. Am I missing something simple? What does everyone else use for testing? Please help.

    Hi,
When you press the "Live" button in Dw, it asks you if you want to save the file before putting. If you select No, and there's also NO such file on the server, then you'll have the "Page not found" message displayed.
    Hope this helps.
    Kind Regards,
    Alex

  • Problems with a Test Server in Dreamweaver CC

I am using MAMP to work on a local server to edit a wordpress theme in Dreamweaver CC. Yesterday I was able to view all of my pages and php files in "live view," today I am recieving the error that "dynamically-related files can not be resolved because of internal server area. the only thing I touched was CSS and the I brought up the files again this morning and recieve the error on every page. Does anyone have experience with this?

If nothing has changed in your defined site, it might be just "one of those things". Have you gone through and restarted everything? Shut down the server, mySQL and DW. Restart the machine, restart the server and mySQL then open DW.
If that doesn't help, I don't know if rebuilding the site cache and the DW Program Cache would do anything, but they might be worth a try...
Click the Files window menu, choose Site > Recreate Site Cache
    DW Program Cache: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/494811
I haven't played with DWCC and a server yet, so I'll have to leave any further troubleshooting to the folks who do use it.

  • How do I stop Dreamweaver from updating the Test server copy of a file when I open the local file?

The subject says it all. Every time I open a file, Dreamweaver connects to the testing server and uploads the local file to the test server.
I want to stop this behaviour.  It's annoying!

My testing server is IIS running on my local machine.
The "local" copy of the file is actually on a remote share.  I have the test server copy open in Notepad++.  The two files are identical save for on extra line in the copy on the testing server.  When I open the "local" copy in Dreamweaver, it shows me that some file activity is being done, and then Notepad++ tells me the file has changed and do I want to reload it.  If I do, that extra line vanishes.
When I check the file activity log, it shows that the file activity is complete.
I haven't mentioned the production server because it doesn't seem to be affected, but we do have one.

    FIXED!!

  • Does electronic version Adobe Dreamweaver CSS with PHP content question

Does electronic version Adobe Dreamweaver CSS with PHP come with the labs or files used in a college course?  What is on the CD and is there a way to get the content with the Barnes and Noble e-book?  This should be a Barnes and Nobel question but they seem to have troubles answering the questions like this.

Electronic version comes with absolutely nothing about your course.   All you get is everything in this link:
    <http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=dreamweaver>
The link will give you 30 days of free use of DW after which you might get bored with DW or you will have given up on your course and started your own business to pay your school fees.

  • View .PHP page in Live view

Hope this is in the right place
I'm, having some trouble with CS5. I have a .php page containing no html that I would like to see in Live view. The page is hosted on a local server and runs just fine when I go to preview, or open it in Chrome/Firefox/IE outside of Dreamweaver. As such I'm assuming the WAMP Server i'm running for testing isn't the issue.
When I open the page and select Live View I get the loading bar just above and to the far right side of the properties inspector, but the design view remains completely white as if nothing is there.
    Apache Version :
    2.2.17
    PHP Version :
    5.3.3
If you guys have any ideas please let me know
Thank you very much in advance

The following article describes how to set up a PHP testing server in Dreamweaver CS5:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/setup_php.html. It goes through the entire process of installing XAMPP. If you already have WAMP installed, you can jump straight to the section that deals with defining a site and testing server. The WAMP equivalent of C:\xampp\htdocs is C:\wamp\www.

  • DW CS4 Live View Not Working

I have migrated within a week of buying DW CS3 to DW CS4 and
have been spending the last 24 hours or so watching the excellent
    videos on lynda.com for CS4.
I then decided to take the plunge and start producing my own
content. The first thing I wanted to see was how to drag and drop
an Excel file into an HTML page.
Firstly, DW seemed to generate a file link only without
presenting me with a dialogue box to let me choose what I wanted to
    do.
Secondly when I then tried to switch to Live View I was faced
    with the message that
Live View needs Netscape/Firefox Flash Plugin
I have searched Help and the Adobe site for this plug in but
have got nowhere ... can anyone please save me a load of time and
heartache and tell me what I need to do?
I thought it might be an Excel problem so I tried to do the
same with a Word file and faced the same problem.
    Thanks for your attention!

You can't. To import the content of an Excel file, select
    File > Import
    > Excel Document. Warning: it doesn't work very well. You
    get only the
worksheet that was open when the Excel file was last closed.
    You also
frequently get a lot of empty cells at the bottom. It's much
    better to
    copy and paste from Excel.

Same answer. You can't drag and drop Word into an HTML page.
    Select File
    > Import > Word Document. This works much better than
    Excel.

  • Assist plaese with PHP testing in Dreamweaver CS4

    Dear Friends,
I’m completely new in Dreamweaver. I’ve just installed in my windowsXP PHP, MySQL and Apache. I’m trying to test PHP in Dreamweaver CS4. Here what I did but still could not see result in browser view.
    In site definition box,
    in local info:
    site name: PHP test
    local root folder: C:\wamp\www\
    HTTP address: http://localhost/PHPTest.php/
    In testing server:
                Server model: PHP My SQL
                Access: Local/Network
                Testing server folder: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\
                URL Prefix: http://localhost/PHPTest.php/
Inside the body script in code view I inserted the following:
    <?php
                echo "This is a PHP line";
                phpinfo();
    ?>
When I try to see it in browser it shows: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
Please tell me what I did wrong please.
    Thanks,
    Qartveli

some clues to get you started:
    1. when developing on a local server, make sure that the testing server folder is equal to the local root folder -- means that it´s "C:\wamp\www\" in both cases, otherwise your local server will try to load the current page from the directory "C:\Inetpub\wwwroot" where this page physically doesn´t exist, and that´s why you´re getting the "cannot display the webpage" error message.
    2.
    URL Prefix: http://localhost/PHPTest.php/
never specify a certain page name in here -- http://localhost/ is all you need for the URL prefix, and the name of the to-be-previewed page will be appended automatically when going to Preview mode..

    Günter

  • Problems to Download Dreamweaver CS4 with Akamai Download Manager!

I want to download Dreamweaver CS4 Italian Windows Trial version.
I have Internet Explorer 7, PC with OS Windows XP x64bit Corporate, Core2Quad Q9650, Motherboard MSI P45Platinum with Ethernet 10/100/1000,
    4GBRAM,3 HDD 500GB WesternDigital,Nvidia GeForce 9400GT.
I have installed "Akamai Download Manager ActiveX" control asked on the top of window popup.
    Clicked Yes:Installation confirmation.
But I have tried to click the button "Download" and just one window with this message appears and disappears immediately:
Per scaricare il software è necessario installare Akamai Download Manager...
    Problemi di download?
    Assistenza per il download...
Il sistema non dispone dei requisiti minimi per eseguire Akamai Download Manager.
(The system doesn't meets the minimum system requirements to run Akamai Download Manager.)
    I can't download anything. Why?
I have disable Pop-ups Blocker, and disabled also Anti-Phishing Filter.
Disabled also Antivirus and the Firewall.
Set and lowered Security Protection from Tools>Internet Options: to "Medium"; and also, another time, set to "Personalized" with all the controls
    switched to "Active".
Set Privacy>Settings>"Accetta tutti i cookie"(lowered to full bottom).
I have read this Akamai Download Manager FAQ:
-"Nothing happens when I click the download link"
If nothing happened after you clicked the download link, either your pop-up blocker or a high security setting on your web browser may have stopped
the Akamai DLM window from opening.
If you have a pop-up blocker enabled in your web browser or in your Internet toolbar (such as the Yahoo! toolbar or the Google toolbar), you will
need to disable your pop-up blocker to start your download. For additional information, and for instructions on changing your security setting, see
the "Akamai Download Manager system requirements" (ServiceNote kb400530).
Note: The download manager can sometimes take up to a minute to load. Please allow time for the initial loading before assuming there is a problem
Thus, I have followed this rules in Akamai Download Manager System Requirements:
    Internet Explorer 7
    1) Access your Internet options from the Windows Control Panel (Internet Options) or by selecting Tools > Internet Options in Internet Explorer
    2) Select the Security Tab
    3) Click Custom Level
    4) Scroll through the list of security options and set:
-ActiveX controls and plug-ins > Download signed ActiveX controls > Enable or Prompt
-ActiveX controls and plug-ins > Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins > Enable or Prompt
-ActiveX controls and plug-ins > Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting > Enable or Prompt
-Downloads > File download > Enable
-Miscellaneous > Allow script-initiated windows without size or position constraints > Enable
-Scripting > Active scripting > Enable
    5) Click OK
    6) Click OK again
    But nothing changes.
On my PC I have also this installation: "J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5" and "Java(TM)6 Update 15".
But the download doesn't start at all.
    1) How can I do to download Dreamweaver CS4-Windows-ITALIAN language?
    2) Is it possible to download 364.8 MegaBytes without Akamai Download Manager?
    Please Hurry!
    Horsepower0171.

another option you may have is resettofactory
    start- run- type:
    cmd
    press enter
    type:
    cd c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
    press enter
    type:
    loader.exe /resettofactory
    press enter
    please perform a backup first
test your browser before you restore your backup, and to be ssafe I would do a selective restore
open DTM, go to backup/restore- advanced
    top left click on file-open
find your backup, it will load on the left side
you current working BB will be on the right side
transfer ONLY the absolute important databases from the left to the right(address, cal, phone logs, messages, sms, tasks, memo)... dont do any that you dont know and dont do any OPTIONS ones

  • Browsers won't open some php testing server files

Running DW 8, OS 10.4.10, Apache virtual testing server with
    php local site.
I've Firefox and Safari as primary and secondary browsers.
    When working on a
page, if I select 'preview in primary browser', Firefox opens
    the page with
my virtual url...no problem. Lately, some php files will not
    open. Firefos
give a dialog to open the file in default (DW) or save to
    disk. This is very
frustrating since one file it does this to is a login page.
    Safari does the
    same thing!
I have select the file in question in the finder (extension:
    ,php) and
through the Get Info and told Mac OS to open this file with
    Firefox and all
.php extensions. Rebuilt prebinding so all php files in the
    Finder show a
Firefox icon, but still neither Firefox nor Safari will open
    them. They
    don't recognize the
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;
    charset=ISO-8859-1" />
Metatag. The really frustrating thing is that only some files
    behave this
way. Most of the others work fine and I can't see anything in
    the headers
that would cause one to open and not another. Has anyone ever
    run across the
behavior before and if so, what was the cause?
    Thanks,

True, I'm running Apache 1.3, but I'm leery of trying to
    upgrade to a newer
version for fear of messing up everything that already works.
    Had a real
headache getting MySQL 5, PHP 5 and phpMyAdmin all up and
    running with DW 8.
Fortunately I had David Powers book that gave pretty much
    idiot proof
instructions on how to install all this stuff. I'd never been
    able to do it
left to my own devices. Another caveat is that my webhost,
    like most, is
behind the upgrade curve: they run MySQL 4.1 and phpMyAdmin
    2,8 so if I
upgrade too much there may be compatibility issues.
Another oddity, renaming that file from .php to .html
    extension causes it
to open fine in Firefox and Safari. I don't think it's kosher
    to keep it
that way since it does contain DW8's login php scripts.
    Again, there's no
    problem with other .php files.

  • How do I setup a php testing server that connects to my web host?

My web host (webhostingpad.com) has php on it. I need to setup a testing server that connects to this so I can test my site locally.
    My questions are:
    1. Do I set this up as a local network connection or an sftp (same as my remote)?
    2. what information do I put in to make this work?

1024MB is enough to have 2 instances but You have to know what are going to be the requirements levels of those instances in order to check if your memory is enough.
The memory is a theme that relate Oracle SGA with RAM in the machine.
To have a second database server you have to make another installation in a different Oracle Home.
It is not the same to have 2 instances than 2 Oracle database servers.
Do you know what is the difference ?

  • Dreamweaver CS4 and PHP require_once, require, include_once, include absolute paths

I have a question about Dreamweaver CS4's new functionality that lists required and included files in a second row below the name of the file you are currently editing. It's handy.
I see that Dreamweaver attempts to list all the included files for a given page so that it is easier to find and edit those files.
For example.  If I had a HTML document called index.html that linked to a CSS document called style.css, when I open index.html, Dreamweaver CS4 lists style.css in a row below index.html.
My problem is this.  This new functionality works on absolute paths and relative paths for HTML elements. For example, it can find and link to CSS files regardless of if the src tag is relative  or absolute (/css/style.css)
REFRESHER: absolute paths start with a "/" as in "/css/style.css" and relative paths do not start with a "/" as in "css/style.css" or "../../css/style.css"
However, PHP files that are linked to the current page via require, require_once, include, or include_once, only appear to work if you use a relative path.
So this would work in Dreamweaver:
    require_once('../lib/config.php');
    But this would not
    require_once('/home/matt/mydomain.com/html/lib/config.php');
As any PHP developer knows, you are never supposed to use relative paths with included or required files.  Especially if your site has multiple levels of sub directories.  Relative paths are relative to the calling php document.  It causes a bunch of problems.  I can explain how if you want.
How can I tell Dreamweaver that the base directory on my apache web server for my domain...
    /home/matt/mydomain.com/html/
... is the equivalent of the base directory on my home computer where dreamweaver accesses my files.
    C:\Users\Matt\Documents\My Websites\mydomain.com\
    So that when I write...
    require_once('/home/matt/mydomain.com/html/lib/config.php');
... how can I force dreamweaver understand that "/home/matt/mydomain.com/html/" is the same as "C:\Users\Matt\Documents\My Websites\mydomain.com\" on my home computer. So that way, this new Dreamweaver CS4 submenu feature can find and link to the correct file.
Essentially, can I define Dreamweaver "include paths" for Dreamweaver to search in if the file I'm trying to include is not in the same directory?

    athensmusician wrote:

Perhaps you ought to inform the PHP documentation team. All the examples in the PHP manual use relative paths.
Essentially, can I define Dreamweaver "include paths" for Dreamweaver to search in if the file I'm trying to include is not in the same directory?
Dreamweaver parses only relative paths in PHP includes. The Related Files feature was a new addition in Dreamweaver CS4, so it's not 100% perfect. Having the ability to define your own include_path for Dreamweaver to parse would be a useful improvement. • IE does not run "refreshing the list of places" Lesson 12 Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 with PHP

Hi anyone else experience this.  In lesson 12 everything works as it should until I add the code for refreshing the list of places as well as the list of photos.  Live view works fine, Chrome, Dreamweaver and safari works as well.  However IE 9 does not.  If anyone can explain the cause of this I will be very grateful

I am sorry to see that you did not receive a reply. I'm having the same problem ... apparently the Adobe Extension Manager only sees the earlier versions of Dreamweaver, and so exits out of the installation.
If would be great to have the courtesy of a reply from Adobe regarding their extension manager.

  • Design View Issue Dreamweaver CS4 - Taking forever to load design view

I am having an issue where my site takes literally almost a full day to load in design view. Once it is loaded everything works seemlessly but once I close down Dreamweaver and reopen it, I have to wait another day to get to design view of my site. All files open just fine in code view.
I have deleted the Dreamweaver CS4 cache folder, completely formatted my drive and reinstalled creative suite. I have also validated my code on W3c and everything checks out fine.
The majority of my site is based off of a template, but even when I remove all the template references in the html files from Notepad I am still having the same issue. My site renders fine and quickly however on Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, and Safari.
When loading any other site off the web into Dreamweaver I do not run into the problem so there must be something wrong with how my site is set up. Either the Template file is no good or somewhere else I am falling short. Can someone, please, please, please ( I am begging) help me figure out what is going on here.
My index file is located at - http://www.thebluedot.net/index.html and the template file is located at - http://www.thebluedot.net/Templates/index.dwt
I have searched high and low and even made a post on this same topic about a month ago but never came up with a resolution to my issue. I had given up on finding a solution to this problem for some time, but I really need to figure out where I am going wrong here!
    Additional Details -
I am running - Windows Vista Ultimate on a Core 2 Processor with 12 GB of Ram & Solid State Hard Drive. Everything on my system runs super smoothly except loading my site in Dreamweaver CS4 design view.
I really appreciate any help you can provide.

I have used CS2 Adobe GoLive to create and manage a website (pro-prosperity.com).  Now, I have CS4 Dreamweaver.  I got a new site set up on Dreamweaver using the site management facility.  I then have the contents of website available locally on Dreamweaver.  I can edit files.  But the main home page, index.html, is not displaying on design view mode for editing, although it displays everything on live view mode.  I have struggled for days and am not getting any difference in attributes of index.html and another .html that is displaying fine on design view and is editable.
I am really lost and am begging for any help.  Can you, for example, copy the home page from pro-prosperity.com and display on design view and edit it?  Please tell me what is in this file that is troublesome.  Thanks.
The first thing you should do is to make sure that this feature is turned on (it's off by default):
View > Code View Options > Highlight Invalid Html
It's not perfect, but it will notify you of some problems. In Code View, there are many problems highlighted. Some of them don't make sense, but are triggered because of a problem with a parent tag.
Be sure to make a backup copy of your file before doing the next step. Close your page. Go to Preferences > Code Rewriting, and turn on "Fix invalidly nested and unclosed tags", "Remove extra closing tags", and "Warn when fixing or removing tags". Click OK, then re-open your page. The messages in the dialog to tell you what was changed. This allowed me to see your page in Design View (I am using CS5).
Note: I suggested that you reset your preferences to turn off those 3 settings as they can cause problems with some markup.
In the long term, I suggest that you avoid nesting tables wherever possible.
    Hope this helps,
    Randy
