Physical backups in EM db control

1. When I set in EM db control full physical backup
and after that incremental backup, will incremental
backup use last full backup automatically provided
that in full backup I check the option to use the full backup
as the base of incremental backup strategy?
When I am using 'Oracle suggested backup strategy' which uses image
copies instead of backup set can not newly set incremental
backups use it as its base instead of newly created full backup?
2.When there is recovery window for say 7 days set and
every day are created incremental backups after full backup and
full backup is just taken, next days from that I need previous
backup for the case that I want go back in scope of recovery window
before newly created full backup. So I need always at minimum two full
backups, am I right?

Hi All,
What about monitor locks on the database.
I see default blocking session monitoring, but was looking for something that monitored the length of time locks are held.
Haven't seen anything, and wondering if we'll need a user defined metric for catching this.
Thanks,
Tony

  • IPhone physical backup on different PC

    I usually back my iPhone up to my Macbook Pro.  That laptop is currently in another state ATM and it might be a couple months before I get to it.  I have my windows gaming rig that I want to do 3 things with.
    1 - make a physical backup of everything on my 4s
    2 - use that backup to transfer everything onto an upgrade (a new 5c)
    3 - factory restore my 4s
    Can I do this and then when I get my laptop back continue to use it as my main? Thanks!

    Hi bobsbarricades,
    Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
    You can manually create a backup on your pc without syncing. See this article for the steps:
    iOS: How to back up and restore your content
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
    iTunes can create backups of your iOS device when you:
    Sync with iTunes (disabled if you have iCloud backup turned on)
    Right-click (or Control-click) the iOS device in iTunes under Devices and choose Back Up
    Use these steps to manually back up your iOS device using iTunes:
    Connect your iOS device to a computer with the latest version of iTunes installed.
    Click the File menu and select Devices > Back up.
    To verify that the backup finished successfully, open iTunes Preferences and select the Devices tab. The name of the device will appear along with the date and time the backup was created.
    All the best,
    Jeremy

  • Physical backup - minimal requirements

    Hi everyone,
    Is it possible to restore an Oracle instance with only theses files:
    - The SYSTEM tablespace's datafiles.
    - The SYSAUX tablespace's datafiles.
    - The CONTROL files.
    - The PARAMETER file.
    And the data being in many dumpfiles (generated with exp.exe or expdp.exe)?
    Regards.

    Thank's a lot eveyone,
    I've just seens this in the doc that confirm what you all said:
    "*Recovering a Database in NOARCHIVELOG Mode*
    If a media failure damages datafiles in a NOARCHIVELOG database, then the only option for recovery is usually to restore a consistent whole database backup. If you are using logical backups created by an Oracle export utility to supplement regular physical backups, then you can also attempt to restore the database by importing an exported backup of the database into a re-created database or a database restored from an old backup."
    Regards.
    CarlYes. Please remember that a backup is a physical copy of the data files. An export is a logical copy of the and data and the ddl needed to recreate the data. In essence, the .dmp created by exp is just a bunch of CREATE and INSERT statements, albeit in a binary file. Of course you can't issue these statements (even within the context of imp) if the database itself is not up and running.

  • How to backup new learned remote-control data for the IR-remote APP???

    Hello @ all,
    does anybody know a way to backup the new learned remote control on XPERIA Z Tablet?
    I found a database under:
    "system/vendor/etc/sony-ir-remote/db"
    But after I've saved new learned remote controls the date and the size of these DB's
    are the same as before. Therefore the IR-remote control APP dosn't save the new data
    in these files.
    Furthermore there isn't a button in the remote-control APP to backup new learned remote controls.
    And I can't choose the remote control APP in the backup function APP from the XPERIA Z Tablet
    to save the data. Also the backup with the Sony PC Companion Software dosn't save the learned
    remote controls. Who develops such a dross mobile software?
    Sorry SONY, but you have the most unpalatable support I've lived to see!
    The first SONY support center refered me to another support center.
    The mobile support center does not answer to my questions per mail.
    Then I call the mobile support center. The answers were shallow and standard.
    The support engineer want to ask the development and call back.
    However, I am still waiting for promised recall.

    I am facing the same problem.
    I have spend a few days to configure and train my Sony tablet to configure for all my remotes such as aircon and lighting. I did a backup using the Sony companion to my PC. When my tablet was faulty and serviced. But the backup did not recover the IR remote settings and codes which I programmed previously. I also tried your backup restore app but it also does not save the configuration.
    It is VERY IMPORTANT for me to backup the settings.
    Please provide the folders and path of where the IR REMOTE settings and personal configuration and codes trained were kept so that I could back them up. Are these path protected area that required rooted access?
    Hope that Sony could update the app to include backup of new trained codes and settings and in the meantime to provide a procedure of how to backup the setting and trained IR codes with or without rooting the device.

  • Why not physical backup be able to restore logical tables ?

    DBA's are used to the perspective of physical & logical backups for a long time .
    I wonder why should it not be able to do a logical restore a single table from a physical backup ? It will be great to have this possibility.
    Is this is design constraint that can be changed by Oracle ?
    -Shekar

    This is not a design constraint.
    The physical backup is of all the physical components of a database which are interpreted by the server software to create the logical representation.
    A physical backup is meant to be restored completely whereas a logical backup can be restored as of requirement.
    It is not desirable to be able to restore a single table from physical backup as table is a logical representation of data. Till such time that the physical data is not interpreted by Server software it is just bytes on the disk.
    So, if we want to restore a table from physical backup we will need a running instance to interpret the data and this will be more time consuming than having it extracted from a logical set.
    If our system has not gone down and we want to restore the table just to a previous state, then (Oracle 10g) we can do it easily without taking the help of physical backups, through flashbacks.
    These are my views, perhaps others can join in and we can discuss this out.

  • Taking Physical backup

    Hi,
    I am using oracle 10g database. using oracle 10g database and .net technology i build an application.my application is working well and huge amount of data is stored in my database.now i am facing the the problem that how to take physical backup of the database in which already two years of data is stored.before i never take any physical backup of this database, i am just taking logical backup of it.
    Please Help me ..
    Thanks in Advance.

    There are three ways of backing up an Oracle database.
    1. User-managed backups: These are the traditional "hots" and "colds". In a "hot" backup, you place the tablespaces into backup mode and then copy the data files using cp on *nix operating systems or cntl-c/cntl-v on windows systems.  Once the data files are copied, you take the tablespaces out of backup mode.  In a "cold" backup, you take the database down completely and then copy the files.  When the datafiles are copied, you can bring the database back online.
    2. RMAN backups: This is Oracle's recommended backup strategy. The benefit of this type of backup is that RMAN is kernelized or part of the database itself. This means that you no longer need to worry about placing tablespaces into backup mode or bringing down the database. Backing up a database is as easy as the following:
    RMAN target /
    backup database;
    3. The final way you can back up a database is using some type of storage backup such as tape backups of the entire filesystem or mirroring the array offsite.

  • Disabling a specific physical backup

    Hi there!
    I am running on a RAC clusterware 11r2 using Data Guard to push backups to 2 physical standbys.
    One of these backup servers has gone down. It is expected to be down for 48 hours. I am trying to find a way to turn off log shipping to just that specific backup for 48 hours without any primary downtime.
    I have tried logging into the primary server, going to DGMGRL and performed SHOW DATABASE 'StandBy2'; and EDIT DATABASE 'StandBy2' SET PROPERTY 'LogShipping'='OFF'; but it gives me the "ORA-12541: TNS:no listener" error.
    How can I temporarily "turn off" data guard log shipping to just one of the backups for 48 hours (assuming the backup is not accessible at this time)?
    This seems straightforward, but I'm having some difficulty. :)
    Thank you

    Thanks mseberg! That is the correct command to disable a lone backup. That said, it's been well over an hour now and the primary is still trying to connect to the backup (I think).
    In Cloud Control, Data Guard Admin page, I can see that 'StandBy2' is clearly disabled. This is great. However, the primary database is still being bogged down with "network" wait events. When I research I find that the wait events are "ARCH wait on ATTACH" which implies that the primary is still trying to connect to StandBy2. Do you have any insight into why it would be doing this?
    Normally I never experience any "ARCH wait on ATTACH" wait events.

  • Is anyone having issues with their iPhone 5 music controls in a 2012 Hyundai Accent, both on Bluetooth and using a headphone or USB cable?  My music plays but I cannot skip songs without physically using the iPhone 5 controls.  Thanks!

    Hello,
    I have an AT&T iPhone 5 purchased from an AT&T store - it is a normal phone, no changes, no jailbreaking.  I tried using my phone and my girlfriend’s iPhone 5 with the USB auxiliary cable in my 2012 Hyundai Accent.  No matter what connector I use (headphone, USB, auxiliary) it doesn't charge or allow me to use the Hyundai’s controls to change music.  Music will play through the Bluetooth system, but I cannot control the music unless I physically touch my iPhone.  My iPhone 4 has a USB auxiliary cable and works perfectly; it charges and I have full control of my music without having to touch my phone. Nothing works even if I use the adapter that connects the iPhone 4 charger end to the iPhone 5. The picture below shows the iPhone 4 USB cable but it needs to have the (blue) iPhone 5 adapter.
    Here’s the best part of this whole situation.  I was told by Hyundai Customer Care that there is a specific USB cable available for my iPhone and that I need to contact a dealer.  However, two Hyundai dealerships have told me that they do not have a cable, that Apple has not made a cable for the iPhone 5, and that I need to contact Apple directly or order it from an Apple store.  It gets better.  I contacted an Apple Store and they told me to contact Hyundai.  I explained what I wrote above and they put on a call with Apple Customer Care.  After 37 minutes on the phone with Apple, they still couldn't give me a satisfactory answer on how to get this cable or if they even had a cable (Case ID 505467409).
    So here is the magical question:   Is there a working adapter for the iPhone 5 that connect to a 2012 Hyundai Accent? It needs to play music, charge the phone, and work with the car’s controls.  Thanks!
    -sam

    The problem is that you're using an uncertified lightning to 30-pin connector (the blue cable).  If you purchase the 30-pin to lightning cable (either online, at an Apple store or an authorized dealer) it should work fine.
    I have a 2011 Tuscon and tried the lightning to USB cable that came with the phone - no dice.  Talked to my local Hyundai dealer and they don't have an eta on the Hyundai lightning cables (I'm sure it's in the works).
    Lightning to 30-Pin Adapter (0.2M)
    Part Number: MD824ZM/A

    $29 in the US store, $45 in Canada (yes, even though our dollar has been par for years)

  • Offline physical backup

    dear dba,
    i'm using oracle 11gR2 database in ARCHIVELOG mode in windows server 2003R2.
    when we take an offlinebackup, i need clear idea about,
    1. what happens internally ie,in architecture level
    2. whether the archive logs are backed up or not
    3. in which senario we have to use offline backups
    thanks & regards,

    895689 wrote:
    if i manually copy that all archive logs means can we use that file for recoveryWhat do you mean by offline backup , an offline backup could be done by database shutting in immediate,normal,transactional or abort mode,with normal,transactionasl and immediate mode database down , archivelog bakcup is useless,when you do shutdown immediate alls the memory cache (i.e data buffer cache, log buffer cache) writes the data to database files (datafile,controlfiles etc), shutdown immediate terminates all active transactions ,roll back them ,trigger a checkpoint where oracle makes the control files and datafiles consistent to the same checkpoint SCN.I believe you know what is checkpoint? Its useless to take archivelog backup when you have offline backup with database down in consistent mode (shutdown immediate/normal/transactionl) not in inconsistent mode like (shutdown abort).
    Archivelog backup is necessary when you have an inconsistent backup , more precisely say redo is necessary when you have an inconsistent backup or there would be required crash/instance/media recovery.Aechivelogs is an archive of redos and redos are the transaction logs of yours database , it is exactly a recorder of yours database activity ,by using redo logs i can take my database to a particular state, for further detail lets take an example which i have given here as before.
    Suppose i have three disk (disk1,disk2 and disk3),i have one datafile in my database which is f1.dbf on my disk1,i have 2 redo log file i.e r1.log and r2.log which are on disk2.At disk3 i copy my database file f1.dbf from disk1 daily at 12:00 PM. On Monday i have successfully copied the f1.dbf file from disk1 to disk3 at 12:00 PM , at 1 PM on monday i insert some record in a table "test".
    Insert into test values (1)
    It means on monday at 1:00 PM within my datafile f1.dbf i have modified a block and this block contain the record of table test (1 values) , at 1:00 PM if you compare datafile f1.dbf at disk1 from disk3 , you will find only that f1.dbf will contain a new record of test table with values 1 but this will not be within backed up datafile f1.dbf at disk3 . At disk2 r1.log contain those record which i inserted on monday at 1:00 PM, it means i have redo (transactions log) of this datafile f1.dbf within r1.log, i can redo (again inserting) that record from redo log r1.log which i have done at 1:00 PM.
    Suppose at 2 PM on monday my disk1 smoked out , if disk1 smoked out f1.dbf has been also smoked out , then what will i do , i will put a new hard disk disk4 and will copy the database file f1.dbf from backup disk3 , this f1.dbf would not have record of "Insert into test values (1)" which occured after backup at 1:00 PM.After coping f1.dbf to new hard disk disk4 i will start reading and applying my redo log file r1.log after 12:00 PM which contain the (redo entry i.e redo vectors) "insert into test values (1)" to my new restored file f1.dbf at new disk4 , in short it is going to replay from recorder of my transactions log (r1.log) and after applying the redo from r1.log i will have exact data before crashing the hard disk1 at 2:00 PM.The only purpose of redo log file in this scenario is to recover the database in case of media failure , if i do not have r1.log then i can only recover my database till 12:00 PM which was copied from disk1 to disk3 but this recovered backup file does not have entry of "insert into test values (1)", i can only bring back my database to before failure current backup at 12:00 PM not just exact before the failure.
    You may think why the wastage of three disk for one information , one is at disk1 (f1.dbf),another one is at disk2 (r1.log) and last one is at disk3 for coping f1.dbf from disk1.You may think that it is ok with two disk (disk1 and disk3) why do we need another storage area for r1.log , basically r1.log is the transactions log until between yours current backup to the next backup.It does not contain the whole redo (transaction logs) of yours database but have information (transaction log) till yours next backup which is going to be start on next day tuesday at 12:00 PM ,when it gets filled it is switched to another redo log r2.log, when r2.log is filled then it switched back to r1.log , it overwrites whatever written at 12:00 PM "insert into test values (1)" with new database transactions , for the safety of this overcome this redo is archived and keep save till yours next backup.Redo log switching depneds on yours database transaction pace and its size, the more database activity the quickest redo filling and in turn redo log switching.
    Thats all why we need redo and archived log files, as far as the data from redo logs can be directly written to Datafiles is wrong , whenever you do any activity i.e DML , this DML modify the two block one is in within DB buffer cache another one in redo buffer cache , at every 3 seconds or 1/3 filing of redo buffer or commit occurs whichever occur first LGWR write transactions log from redo buffer to online redo log file.
    DBWR writes data (dirty buffer) from database buffer cache when checkpoint occurs (checkpointing a process which updates alls datafile headers with the SCN) before Oracle 8.0 it was LGWR which does the job of CKPT to update alls datafile header with SCN , but after Oracle 8.0 CKPT is now responsible to do this activity cause LGWR already keep involved in writing redo buffer data to redo log file.

  • Physical database creation using Grid Control fail

    I have tried several times to create a physical standby using Grid Control. Everytime, the job failed at the step "DBClone -> Destination Preparation". The log file indicated the following error message:
    PLS-00553: character set name is not recognized.
    When I check the spfile, I find that an extra word "PuTTY" was inserted into the spfile as shown in the following spfile, therefore, the instance cannot be started. In addition, everytime when issuing the command "cat spfilermslag.ora", the word "PuTTY" will automatically appear in the command line after the "cat spfilermslag.ora" command.
    $ cat spfilermslag.ora
    gé ú&PuTTYrmslag.__db_cache_size=150994944

    *.user_dump_dest='/u01/app/oracle/admin/rmslag/udump'

    You might just have to do it the old fashioned way. At least it will be a good learning experience.

  • Como restaurar Backup, teniendo tablaspace y control files borrados

    Haber les explico mas detalladamente, en primer lugar utilizo:
    SO--> AIX Version 6.1
    Motor de BD--> Oracle 11g
    El problema radica que tengo un DMP FULL de la BAse de Datos quiero importarlo pero los datafiles(incluyendo USERS, SYSTEM) están borrados, la base de datos esta borrada al igual que el control file, si me preguntan por si esta multiplexado la respuesta es SI pero los 2 archivitos están fallados, si realizo:
    select open_mode from v$database;
    OPEN_MODE
    MOUNTED
    -cuando quiero darle:
    alter database open;
    me muestra el Siguiente error que les comentaba que no tengo ningún datafile porque están borrados:
    ERROR at line 1: ORA-01157: cannot identify/lock data file 1 - see DBWR trace file
    ORA-01110: data file 1: '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/BDPRO/system01.dbf'

    ORA-01110: data file 1:

    Teniendo en cuenta todos estos aspectos, tengo un backupBDPRO.dmp quiero levantarlo( pero sin DBCA), que tendría que hacer.
    Les agradecería considerablemente de antemano.

  • Problem in deleting backup job in Grid Control

    Hi,
    The topology and versions are as follows:
    1 windows 2003 server with Oracle Grid Control 10.2.0.4.0.
    1 windows 2003 server with Oracle Databases 10.2.0.3.
    1 windows 2003 server with Oracle Databases 10.2.0.3 - Data Guard setup
    I have tried to stop (and delete) some scheduled fullbackup jobs from Grid Control.
    The job has now status SUSPEND. I have tried to stop and delete the job, but I get the message:
    All executions of the job were stopped successfully. Currently running steps will not be stopped.
    I cannot delete the job and the job is not running.
    I have run this procedure in order to delete the job:
    DECLARE
    jguid RAW;
    BEGIN

    mgmt_job_engine.stop_all_executions_with_id(jguid,TRUE);
    COMMIT;
    END;
    With no effect. The job is still shown in Grid Control with status SUSPEND.
    I have restarted all servers and all the components in Grid Control, but the jobs will not disappear from Grid Control although they have been deleted.
    I am struggling with this for about 2 days now.
