Picking up a stream

I'm not sure where to put this post so I guess I'll stick it
here. I work at an internet radio company and would like to make a
player that can pick up our stream. Ultimately the player will be
on the website and our listeners will be able to download the
player and use it. I'm a novice flash user and have run in to the
problem of how to make the player pick up the stream and play it.
The stream is a windows encoded stream if that matters. I guess I
just need to know what the actionscript would be to pick up the
stream... our stream runs to spacialaudio.com and they handle our
bandwidth. I have the URL for the stream but I just don't know how
to make the actionscript that would pick that stream up and play
it. Any help would be appreciated. I have flash cs3

Hi Sha33,
It seems like you are using the loops to essentially act as a trigger for the generation of your pulse.  I think you will be better off if you use a counter task and set up the triggers in hardware.  You can create a counter task that has an initial delay of 30 seconds, meaning that it will wait 30 seconds before starting.  Once that task starts it generates a pulse train that you can define by the number of ticks, high time/low time etc.  As soon as the pulse generation is done it goes back and waits for 30 more seconds.  There is an example in the NI Example finder called Gen Dig Pulse-Retriggerable.vi.  Go to the example finder and search for trigger or triggering to find that example.  You migh also consider posting this question on the DAQ forums to get further help implementing this in hardware, which I think will be substantially easier than trying to use timed loops to act as timers for you hardware.  Thanks and have a great day.

  • Dual data rate stream problem

    I am streaming a live source that is being encoded at 2 different data rates. One is a 360Kbps stream, the other is a 28Kbps stream (for dial up users). I have created a reference movie that contains URLs for each of these streams. The high speed one is characterized as requiring 384Kbps DSL/Cable. The second is set to 56Kbps Modem/ISDN.
    I have a Mac Mini and a PC on my desktop, both connected to my streaming server directly via the LAN. Both are running Quicktime 7.4.1. Both have their Quicktime Preference for Streaming Speed set for Automatic (The Quicktime default).
    The PC always selects the high speed stream. The Mac always selects the low speed stream. The only way to make the Mac pick the correct stream is to set the streaming speed preference manually. I have even tried rebuilding the reference movie, setting the required data rate to as low as 112Kbps, but still the Mac refuses to believe it can handle that speed and picks the other one. The bandwidth to the server is actually in the Mbps range, and the stream plays just fine when it is forced to play through manual configuration.
    Does anyone have any insight into why this is a problem? Better yet, does anybody have a way of making this work that doesn't involve having to explain to every user how to change their preferences?
    By the way, it's not just my desktop Mac that behaves this way, the same is true for systems coming in from the outside. I'm not sure that it is necessarily clear cut that Macs always fail and PCs always succeed, or what the story is with other Quicktime releases.

    How about some more information on the memory you purchasaed.  If you purchased (2) 2GB sticks of memory the motherboard only supports 1GB of memory per slot and they will not function properly.  Is the Patriot RAM single side or double side and did it work before you installed the 2GB modules??

  • Streaming music thro Nokia's FM Transmit facility

    I have a problem connecting any streaming music to my Car radio, Although it support Bluetooth connectivity for my Phone calls ..it wont connect streaming due to the lack of A2DP software..
    This seems to be a common problems as I have dicovered throuout many forums and blogs....
    Is it possible therefore to somehow connect the "Internet radio"  facility on Nokia's to the "FM Transmit" facility ..thereby being able to then pick up pthe streaming radio thro my radio on the FM Tranmit Freqency.....  If not... it would be a good facility to provide.....or make avaialbe on some form of download....

    Hi lozumaster,
    Welcome to our Nokia forum.
    You can definitely do this with your Nokia X6-00, though it's dependant on the stereo you have in your car.
    You will be able to connect your phone to your car's stereo via Bluetooth if your car stereo supports this, or via a direct connection to your car's stereo with a head phone jack, if it has a direct line connection. If you go to an audio shop they'll be able to provide you with such a cable, though you need to make sure your car supports this.
    Hope this helps!

  • [Solved] Amarok stops playback after switching audio streams

    Well, I'm posting this here so if anyone else has this bug, and search the forums, they will find the answer, since I didn't find the answer in the wiki (atleast not the one for archlinux).
    This is on a new install of Archlinux, running kde4.3 but only the kdebase section, not a full kde install. Amarok version for this bug was 2.1.1.
    When I played a stream (any in their 'cool streams' list, it would play, then i would pick a different stream, it would look like it's playing, and the OSD would list the new stream and any song changes on the stream would list on the OSD, but no sound output.
    Well, to fix.. install the xine backend (pacman -Sy phono-xine). It changed the backend from gstreamer to xine automatically for my system after reboot, and I had no more problems (atleast none i've found yet...)
    Hopefully coming soon, i'll post a good working asound.rc for people with an Audigy SE (ca0106) to upmix 2 channel to 5.1, pass real 5.1 through, and allow multiple sources to play simultaneously... if someone has one out there, let me know , cause this seemingly easy task is proving hard to do.

  • Handling user connection disconnect & reconnect in stream

    Hi all,
    I have a problem where I'm streaming a video via RMTP from akamai for a video serving site and an issue has come up during QA where a user starts a video stream and then disconnects their internet connection, which causes the video player to go into the buffer state.  The problem occurs when they reconnect their internet connection and we'd like to pick up the stream again.  Does anyone have any best practices/examples for how to handle this scenario?
    Thanks,
    Jason

    I am guessing you are supporting a school?
    Try these simple steps.
    1:  Make sure that all systems has a sleep timer greater than the class period.  For example, the default 15 minutes can easily be consumed by a teacher's presentation.  Then the system is asleep and you need to rely on AFP reconnect, which doesn't always work.  You can push this out with ARD/JAMF with
    systemsetup -setsleep 45
    Or some other appropriate value.  This ensures that a systems is not sleeping during a student session.
    2:  Try increasing the tickle time of AFP.  This can be done with:
    serveradmin settings afp:tickleTime=60
    The default is 30 and if you are doing a lot of wireless to the devices, this adjustment may improve your performance by reducing the chatter between the client and the server.
    Hope this helps

That means your computer is not publically addressably by it's IP address alone. You'll need to do something called a "NAT holepunch", which you can look up online. Also, I've included two links to discussions I've had with people about the same issue.

  • Program that captures/records source of streaming video?

    Product: HiDownload (PC Windows only)
    Product website: http://www.hidownload.com/
    Hi -- this program essentially picks up the stream source if you are watching a video (For example, a speech being covered by CNN, videos on ESPN, FOXNEWS,MSNBC, CNN, etc.)
    It worked really well when I used a PC, but now that I have a mac I can't find an equivalent for this. Anyone know of a program like this for Apple?

  • Not all executables will start from spawned batch (Is this a WinNT bug?).

    I'm building a tool wherewith I can spawn a make process from my Visual Age for Java IDE.
    This I have working now. However not all executables seem to get started from the batch.
    Here are some of the from within the batch file started examples that work and won't work:
    echo MakeBridge V1.00
    echo Ensure that
    echo %1%2
    echo is a (sub) directory of
    echo %JAVA_DEV_ROOT%
    REM Usage: makeBridge <drive_letter> <working_directory> <make_command>
    REM Change drive
    %1 WORKS
    REM Change directory
    chdir %2 WORKS
    REM Execute make command
    echo ####%3#### WORKS
    clearmake -C gnu %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9 WON'T WORK
    echo path=%PATH% WORKS
    pwd WORKS
    dir WORKS
    java -version WON'T WORK
    rem C:\APPL\_off97uk.32\Office\EXCEL.EXE WORKS
    echo Marcel Zeeuw WORKS
    The actual coding for the spawning is below:
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(batch);
    // Pick up output stream from spawned process
    BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(
    new InputStreamReader(p.getInputStream()));
    String line;
    while ((line = br.readLine()) != null)
    System.out.println(line);
    br.close();
    System.out.println(p.exitValue());
    Help would be appreciated
    Kind regards,
    Marcel Zeeuw.

    Explicit naming of a path in front of a non-starting application doesn't help - as expected.
    My conclusion is, that a process that is spawned by an application inherit some sort of limiting environment space. THis is because when I start my not working batch file from a command prompt, the batch file works as expected.
    I have no solution for this problem for now...

  • Cisco SG300 - IGMP and multiple switches

    Hi all,
    I have read through various Cisco documents and tried various configurations and i have been unsuccessful
    Here is the network layout
    Cisco SG300-10 in Layer 3 mode, managing all VLANS created and inter-vlan traffic is working fine
    Ports 1-4 are in LAG 1 with LACP enabled, Ports 5-8 are in LAG 2 again with LACP enabled, port 9 is connected to the ASA 5505 (Trunk port, all VLANS) and port 10, again a trunk port I use for management
    LAG 1 and 2 are connected to Cisco SG300-52 switches
    again traffic between the switches is working ok, what we would like to do is the following
    on VLAN 7, we have multiple devices streaming using UDP multicast, what we would like to do is allow PC's on VLAN 5 to be able to pick up these streams as and when they need to, the devices broadcast on their own unique UDP ranges
    Could someone please explain to me what I need to configure on the Layer 3 switch and the other two Layer 2 switches in order for this to work?
    If i put a port into VLAN 7 and can view the stream without a problem, also if there is any fine tuning to be done once this is working
    Thanks
    Andy

    Jason,
    The only advantage you would get from using SFPs (fiber tranceivers) in the GBIC slots would be if you needed to make a run of over 100m between the switches.  Unless you have a very large property with switches at either end you are just as well to use the copper ports in the setup you described.  There is also nothing wrong with chaining the SG100s together if necessary to free up a port on the RV320.  The only other thing to consider is if you are using VLANs.  Each unmanaged SG100 will only pass a single VLAN so if you need segregated distribution coming from the RV320 you would need to put each SG100 on its own port.  Or, you could run a trunk from a port on the RV320 to your SG200 and then split off your untagged VLANs from there.  Hope this answers your question and have a nice day.

  • AppleTV: buggy, unreliable

    I have been using AppleTV to stream Netflix mostly, but like being able to show my iPhoto pix and of course iTunes movies. I have encountered an number of bugs using Apple TV which are annoying and disappointing considering the high quality of most Apple products. These are 2 specific problems that continue to recur:
    1. I get an error message which says either "Netflix is unavailable at this time" or "An error occurred loading this content, try again later." I might assume that there is a problem either with Netflix overloading or a problem with the Internet or my network, BUT fortunately, I also have a Panasonic Blu-ray player with a network adaptor and using that I can access my Netflix movies just fine. If AppleTV says "Can't load this content..." the Panasonic loads it okay.
    2. Apple TV can't seem to be able to pick up a streaming movie where I left off half the time. I assume regarding Netflix that the point where I leave off viewing is stored at the Netflix site and not locally, but why can't Apple TV find it? My Panasonic disk player can always find it.
    The problem with "An error occurred loading this content, try again later" error was discussed in this forum in a long thread and though there were various suggestions none of them fixed the problem. This issue was reported by multiple users. It has been a problem for some time but Apple hasn't supplied a fix as far as I can see. The failure to find where I left off is getting worse. There is also the problem of long hesitations in some movies, though I can't quantify that it seems much worse when I'm using Apple TV. What is my question? Are these known problems, is Apple working on them, and are there any workarounds? I have tried rebooting the AppleTv unit and that only works sometimes. The "Unavailable at this time..." thing fixes itself after a period of time, usually.
    I love Apple TV, I like being able to access iTunes movies and Netflix and my iPhoto collection. But why is there all these problems?

    I've maybe had that message once in the 7 months that i've had the device. It could be a combination of things causing it, I have heard others having the issue. When accessing Netflix it always seems to remember where I left off though.
    Have you tried restarting your router, rebooting and/or restoring ATV? If you're on wifi, have you tried ethernet?

  • Can I Send Music to Two Airtunes at the same time?

    I read somewhere there was some software or other fix that would allow me to send my iTunes music to two separate Airport Express Airtunes (to different stereo systems in different rooms, of course) at the same time.
    Is this true? If yes, how/where do I get the fix?

    And there would be no easy way to synchronize the
    sounds coming out of two Airport Expresses controlled
    by two different users.
    I'm not denying that. My point is that synchronizing multiple AirTunes streams is far from trivial due to the prebuffering delay and the fact that TCP is being used as a transport. The TCP transport is the most complicating factor because of the automatic retries when packets are dropped, which introduces latency (delays).
    There's one other difficulty with TCP: The communication is point-to-point. This means that each Express must have its own stream. With each stream taking approximately 700 kbps of bandwidth, two Expresses would chew up 1.4 Mbps of bandwidth, three would use 2.1 Mbps, etc. If you have a less-than-ideal wireless connection, dropouts become much more likely with each added Express.
    There's actually a convoluted approach I figured out over a year ago involving n + 1 users, each running an instance of iTunes, where n is the number of Expresses being streamed to. Nicecast was used to create an MP3 stream from one iTunes instance and then the other iTunes instances would pick up the stream and play it through the Expresses. It, too, suffered from the bandwidth escalation I described above.

  • Advertisement Demo & Buffering

    Hello:
    I am using SMP (1.6.3) to embed a live F4M feed in a page.
    When I do this on its own, with minimal flashvars, it works as expected, but I need to include a video disclaimer:
    swf=/strobe/StrobeMediaPlayback.swf&src=videopath.f4m&width=320&height=240&autoPlay=true
    When I add references to the Advertisement Plugin and the disclaimer, I get audio but no video:
    plugin_ads=/strobe/AdvertisementPlugin.swf&ads_preroll=/videoupload/DISCLAIMER.flv
    I am able to get video by setting:
    enableStageVideo=false
    At this point, the weird behaviour starts:
    The pre-roll disclaimer plays as expected;
    The live stream starts as expected, with a time indicator of something like 00:01 / 00:59 (always around a minute);
    When the current time indicator gets within about 5 seconds (00:54 / 00:59) of the end/buffered(?) time indicator, the second number jumps to around 00:55 / 02:54, the "Buffering" indicator appears, and the video freezes;
    If no action is taken by the user, the video stays in this state indefinitely;
    If the user clicks on the time slider, the video continues normally;
    Occasionally (1 in 20 tries), this user interaction has to be repeated when the video freezes ("Buffering") again.
    I have tried various combinations of flashvars to try to get the buffering/freezing to stop, but the only thing that seems to work is removing the plugin & disclaimer entirely.
    Can anyone suggest flashvar settings that will sort out the buffering situation?
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Scott

    Silviu:
    Your description of the issue makes sense to me, but I still have some noob-ish questions/comments:
    What tool are you using to analyze the stream, to identify 404s, etc.?  Is it something that's freely available?
    I have installed Strobe Media Playback 1.6, Sprint 3, so I believe I am up-to-date;
    You mentioned re-writitng the plugin; is the source for the plugin included in the download package?  After a quick scan, it's not obvious to me where that would be...
    I did forward your last post to the administrators of the live stream.  I'm not sure if their response addressed your points.  Can you let me know if anything was lost in translation?
    8/29/2011 2:01 pm >>>
    Hi  Scott,
                 This may have to do with the DVR functionality. For the  moment, please disable DVR functionality on the player. Second, the Live Streams  are cached, so if you want to test with the direct stream with no cache, change  the ip to XXX.XXX.XXX.122 to XXX.XXX.XXX.123 (I might have those reversed).

    Hi guys:
    I have been having an issue with the disclaimer for the live stream, and  have been in touch with Adobe to get some help with their plug-in.  You can view  the thread at:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3889440#3889440
    The Adobe employee who responded to the thread describes the issue as  follows:
    The main player loads the live stream, but then immediately pauses it and  loads the advertisement plug-in, which plays the disclaimer;
    Once the disclaimer has played, the main player tries to pick up the stream  at the point at which it was paused;
    The server starts responding with 404 for some older fragments, possibly  indicating that they have already been deleted.
    How long are fragments of the live stream kept on the server after they are  initially requested?  Can this be increased to account for a 45 s disclaimer,  without negatively impacting performance?
    I will keep up the dialogue with the guy from Adobe to get more information  on work-arounds (until he gets tired of my newbie questions), but if we can  address the issue by adjusting a setting on the server, it would be preferable  to hacking the plug-in (one of his suggestions).
    Let me know what you think.
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • How to pass a already encoded to FMS

    Hi (again),
    I thave a GoStream device that encodes and can sent a stream
    to FMS
    Click here for some sreen
    shots
    The device needs a server address like: rtmp://<ip
    address>/streamtest to sent the endoded stream
    And there I get lost, do I need to point it out to vod or
    live in FMS
    How should FMS pick up this stream?
    Thanx for your time
    Rick

    Hi,
    Which FMS edition are you using? If it is Flash Media
    Development Server or Flash Media Interactive Server create your
    own application and then publish to it. If you still want to reuse
    vod or live applications, then use the samples provided at
    <fms_install-dir>/samples/applications/vod or live. In the
    main.asc file of vod application, comment out the statement
    "p_client.writeAccess = "";" inside application.onConnect(){}
    method.
    Check the application.xml file residing inside live and vod
    applications and change the virtual directory mappings if required.
    If your server is Flash Media Stream Server, then you cannot
    record stream at the server.

  • ActiveX Proper fix when ?

    When will, if ever Cisco issue a proper fix to the ActiveX issue ? By that I mean providing a signed cab file that has not expired ! The Manual installation fix is unacceptable and requiring you to download and execute an executable is not a satifactory solutions for my users.
    Ideally they should be providing updated firmware and/or a cab file that has been digitally re-signed and not expired. Something which should not be beyond Cisco's capabilitiy, after all they spent time creating the manual installation procedure !
    The only other option not to go through the manual installation is to create a web page that loads an ActiveX cab file individually signed for a cost of $199-$499 per year which is not a viable option.

    You are correct in saying Google Chrome works as does Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari all of which stream the MJPEG content and play directly in the browser.
    Unfortunately I have no control over which browser my clients use and whether you love it or hate it Microsoft Internet Explorer is still the mostly widely used desktop browser, therefore requiring the ActiveX as it has no native support for MJPEG as the others do.
    I cannot even stream the /img/video.asf into Windows Media Player as it does not pick up the stream and display the video, another solution I was hopeful of.
