Picking up PDF URL for insertion as hyperlink in Word

I just upgraded from Acrobat Pro 8 to 9, and I'm having trouble copying URLs from PDFs. I create a document in Word, then want to insert a hyperlink inside the doc to a PDF at a website.  I used to be able to select text, right-click to bring up the Insert Hyperlink dialog in Word, then open PDF and its URL would automatically insert into the dialog box or I could cut-and-paste the URL from the browser window. Now, all PDFs within a website open not in a browser but in a PDF window with a truncated URL and "[1]" inserted into the filename.  I then have to find the full URL and manually type it into the Word dialog box...and those URLs can get long.  Sorry if this question may be stupid and the answer obvious...I'm happy to wear egg just to get this functionality back.  I'll even downgrade to 8 if I have to...sigh...

We may not be able to tell you much without seeing the Word document.

  • What PDF reader for IPAD recognizes hyperlinks to be able to jump within a document and internet ?

I have created a WORD document using WORD 2007 and converted it to PDF. The document has hyperlinks and clickable bookmars but the regular IPAD PDF readers do not recgnize the links. Does anyone know what application for an IPAD would make the PDF links function?

How were the hyperlinks inserted in Word?  I think the PDF output is different if you use the Insert Hyperlink function, or just type the plain URL.
P.S. the iOS forum is here http://forums.adobe.com/community/adobe_reader_forums/ios if my explanation does not answer your question.

  • Using a variable to insert into a URL for redirecting clients

I got a good one, can anyone help on this?
    Using RoboHelp Version 8.02.208.
My company uses MicroStrategy to deploy several web-based data analysis products.
Each of these data products (there are 5) are deployed on different servers.
I have set up a single source WebHelp project and use build tags for product specific help output.
(I also have to modify the Start Page, TOC and Default Topic settings prior to generating each product help)
Everything on this works fine and is not a problem.
We have just implemented an Excel add-in for one of the products.
That add-in uses a locally installed CHM file for its help.
In order to provide customized help that can be updated without forcing the clients to reinstall the CHM help file locally, the source for the CHM file has one dummy topic. In that topic, I have used HTML code to redirect the client to the WebHelp for the product and have integrated the Excel add-in help to that product’s customized help. The result is that the CHM file is opened locally in the HTML help viewer. Inside the HTML help viewer window, I open the WebHelp.
The redirect HARD CODES the URL with the product specific server name and Start Page help topic.
That works fine and is not a problem for ONE PRODUCT.
We are in the process of adding this Excel add-in to other products.
Now here is where I cannot get this to work with my implementation.
The URL for each product is different and to make matters worse, the Start Page is different for each product as well.
So, I am working on options for implementation of multiple products and here is my question:
    (1)    The following is an example of the redirect in the single topic of the CHM file:
    <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;URL=https://server.com/ProductName/WebHelp/StartPage.htm#mergedProjects/ExcelPlugIn/ Overview.htm" />
    (2)    The red portion of the URL above will need to be modified to support each individual product with a custom server, product name and start page HTM file name.
    Is there a way to:
    (1)    Add a variable in this HTML code
    (2)    Once the product is identified, update the variable with the product specific URL content
    (3)    Integrate the variable into the target URL of the HTML code that does the redirect
I think this is either not possible or more work than needed. My other option is to provide standalone Excel add-in help on a server and just have the Excel plug-in go to that (right now it is integrated into the product specific help and the client has access to the plug-in help AND the application help all at the same place).
Thanks to all in advance for any help/suggestions.

Thanks for the feedback - here is more informtion on the challenges of this implementation:
I can only distribute one CHM file to cover all 5 web-based products that can be accessed through the Excel plug-in.
Regardless of which of our 5 products is used to install the plug-in on the client's local hard drive, the same installer is used.
That one CHM file is installed locally on the client's hard drive.
(The out of the box CHM file for the plug-in only has general plug-in help content the locl install causes problems for updating the content).
We needed to be able to easily update the help without inconveniencing the clients.
So, I am not creating 5 different CHM files for each installer, since there is only one installer regardless of how many of the 5 products they have.
The plug-in has a server setting and web service setting for each product and the client must choose which they are accessing when they fire up the plug-in.
They may be accessing the plug-in for any of our 5 web-based products they have subscriptions for.
Which means, the one CHM file must be able to:
    (1) determine the product they are accessing
    (2) direct to one of the 5 servers with the online help.
Each of the 5 online helps are deployed on separate servers with different URL links (and the helps have all different URL links as well).
These online webhelp outputs have some identical content but also some customized content for the specific product they are actually accessing.
My original approach was pretty much the same as William's above. Have a variable in the CHM help, determine the server they are accessing from the plug-in and insert the customized portion of the URL to access the appropriate webhelp.
    Keep the ideas/suggestions coming.
I also have a development person looking into how to update a variable on the CHM side to populate the URL.

  • What are the best options for creating a PDF with bookmarks and a hyperlinked TOC?

What I'm interested in is whether or not there is an alternate process I could follow that would side step Word 2011's inability to export to PDF with bookmarks and hyperlinked TOCs. How do you create PDF documents with bookmarks and hyperlinked TOCs in your documents?
    Some background:
In Word 2010 and 2013 for Windows (and I'm sure this applies to older versions as well), you can export documents to a PDF file format where the exported file will carry over the bookmarks and hyperlinked table of contents. Specifically, by making specific text headers, will appear in the final PDF file as bookmarks on the side (see image taken from Adobe's website).
Regarding the table of contents, using Word's built in Table of Contents feature successfully ports the ability to navigate to a specific section by clicking on its chapter in the table of contents to the finished PDF file.
I've read several forum discussions that say it's not possible to do this from Word 2011, so my current solution is to just finish all documents on a Windows machine (either with parallels or a separate computer). The alternate process flow of creating a word document, exporting it to PDF, then rehyperlinking everything in Acrobat is just too time consuming to consider.

    Hi, beejasaurus
I found a possible kluge from this discussion here
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1008480
Create the hyperlinks in Word, save the file
Open that file with Pages, export as PDF.
The links work from that PDF.
Note, I did not try this with TOC but it worked with hyperlinks embedded in the Word document

  • Hyperlink URL for an iweb page for press release

I am writing a press release in Word and I want to create a hyperlink in Word directly to the third page on my iweb site which is http://web.mac.com/decouvrir/mamaloosemusic/Welcome.html. But that adress is for the welcome page. But I want to get directly to another page.
The other page name on my navigation bar is Mamaloose, but the internal title in my iweb list is "mamaloosecorpinfo". What should the resulting URL be in order to go directly to that page?

Okay, firstly you need to sort out your site name. Is this your site here? http://web.me.com/decouvrir.
Your url link does not work, so there is something wrong somewhere. Go into iWeb and check your site name and perhaps re-publish. Also, you need to be using web.me.com and not web.mac.com as you have.
Also, if you are linking from a Word document, it is not the navigation menu that you need to link to, it is the page name from the url and you need to link to in iWeb - so it does not matter what your navigation link is, if you named your page "mamaloosecorpinfo", then your page will be this that followed by .html and it is this that you need to link to, to take you to that page of your website.

  • Insert an hyperlink in a mail text but the URL is too long (more than 255)

    Hi to all,
I was asked to insert an hyperlink in a mail text. I was  thinking to use '<A href =" ' command . I'm usin BSC interface but my problem is that the internal table in wich I'm loading the body message is 255 character while the URL i'm trying to include in the e-mail si too long . Any fast solution ?
    Thanks
    Andrew

You don't need to put the entire anchor tag contents on one line in the table before you append it to the body contents.  The reading application (Outlook, etc.) knows the entire tag contents based on the open/close of the tag.  I often chunk up my anchor tags like that via text elements so they're easier to read in the code.  Though you can't really see it, this is an anchor tag:
      begin_table 0.
      begin_row.
      begin_cell 100.
      gs_email_contents-line = text-s03.
      append_content.
      gs_email_contents-line = text-s04.
      append_content.
      gs_email_contents-line = text-s05.
      append_content.
      end_cell.
      end_row.
      end_table.

You can have a Submit button with the Submit URL and the remove the back ground fill to look like a hyperlink on the form.

  • How to insert a hyperlink to RETURN TO FRONT PAGE?

I just now played a photo slide show that I made last night. There is no way to exit that page to go back to the Table of Contents page/Site Menu.
How do I insert a hyperlink in all the pages so a visitor can return to the first page, or at least to the Table of Contents page/Site Menu.
Also, there was no navigation bar on the slide show. Instead, there were clickable thumbnails of the slide show. Is this as iWeb made it to be?

Sorry to bother you, but i did find the answer to my question by going to the Help Menu, which I forgot all about in my concern. So to keep this from being a total waste of your time, here are the instructions for making a hyperlink to another page. Again, I apologize. -Lorna
    Adding a text hyperlink
You can create a text hyperlink that opens a webpage or a new email message, or downloads a file.
To add a text hyperlink using the Link Inspector:
    1. Select the text you want to turn into a hyperlink.
    2. If the Link Inspector isn't open, click Inspector in the toolbar (or choose View > Show Inspector), and then click the Link Inspector button.
    3. In the Link Inspector, select "Enable as a hyperlink," and then choose an option from the Link To pop-up menu:
    • One of My Pages: Opens another page in any of your iWeb websites. Choose the page from the Page pop-up menu.
    • An External Page: Opens any webpage for which you know thethe website address. Type the address in the URL field.
    • A File: Downloads a file to the visitor's computer. (The file is part of your website; visitors won't have access to your computer.)
    • An Email Message: Opens a new email message containing the email address and subject you specify.

Can anyone advise me how to insert a hyperlink into a project - I am using Captivate 5

You can use an interactive object such as a click box placed over the top of a text caption, or a button, to link to the URL.  However, these will not strictly-speaking appear identical to hyperlinks.
If you really want to replicate the rollover appearance of a true HTML text hyperlink, then you might consider the Hyperlink widget from Infosemantics:

  • How to insert a HYPERLINK in a template Editable Field?

Question:  How to insert a HYPERLINK in a template Editable Field?
    Hi
Does anyone know how to insert a HYPERLINK in a template Editable Field?
I want the link to always display the word "Cities".
But the URL will change with each child page.
    Here's what I've got so far . . .
    <!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="Cities" -->Cities<!-- TemplateEndEditable -->
    Thanks so much!

NOTE: This is to go into the TEMPLATE
Your best bet is to keep the hyperlink OUT of the editable Field and to make the HREF attribute of the link editable.
This would go in the head of your document:
    <!-- TemplateParam name="href" type="URL" value="" -->
This would go where you want the link to appear:
    <a href="@@(href)@@">cities</a>
THE BETTER WAY: You can either paste these quotes into the appropriate places in your template or you can insert:
    <a href="#">cities</a>
and click inside the opening <a> tag.
Then go to Modify > Templates > Make Attribute Editable
In the dialog box "Editable Tag Attributes" you should now see "Choose which attributes of this A tag should be editable."
If HREF is not showing in the drop-down, do Add and put it there.
Check the box to Make this attribute editable.
Give a name for this editable attribute (if you have more than one on a page, you will want it to be understandable, like "cities" for your cities links).
Make sure it is of Type URL
If you want a default URL in place, put one in the Default field.
    Then push OK.
To use it, on each page, do Modify > Template Properties... choose the property to edit, and put the new URL in the entry field.
    Press OK.

  • Hyperlinks in word containing spaces are cut off in pdf generation

We are using a mix of MS Word 2003, 2007 and 2010. All are experiencing the same problem when using Adobe products (Abobe Acrobat Pro 9, Adobe X, Adobe Elements) for the generation of a pdf document with respect to hyperlinks.
When we have hyperlinks containing "spaces" they will get cut off in the resulting pdf document.
Examples have formatting like this in Word
    http://team.eu.enet/XXX/Master data forms/Master Data Project.xls
When we convert this in Adobe it cuts off the link after encountering the first space, like this
http://team.eu.enet/XXX/Master (on the face of it the whole line looks like the one above, but the hyperlink shown when hovering over it has been cut like shown)
In some cases the spaces are replaced with %20 (IE for example replaces spaces with these characters automatically). For those cases the conversion works just fine, and the whole line is maintained as a hyperlink also in the pdf
http://team.eu.enet/XXX/Master%20data%20forms/Master%20Data%20Project.xls (again, the line does not look like this in the pdf, but the link when hovering over it does)
When we use the Save as function in Word 2007/2010 this replacement is done automatically. the links in the "word generated pdf" are not containing spaces,
Is there any way to get this replacement done automatically when converting hyperlinks from Word to PDF? Repairing the links afterwards (which is possible, I know) is not a viable option when you have many such links in a word file.

Sort answer: Use proper syntax and do not use the "space" character in any URL.
"20" is hex for the space character (which is a "reserved" character in that it may have special meaning).
If used out of context being "reserved" applications have to make something of a guess.
Success is the %20. Sometimes success is not had.
So, again, proper syntax - no "space" character in a URL (use the underscore).

It's possible if you're linking to a PDF posted a web server. The you could add an open parameter to the URL like:
    http://internalwebsite.com/mydocument.pdf#page=3.

  • How do I insert a hyperlink in an e-mail?

when I compose an e-mail, occasionally I would like to insert a hyperlink. I can do this operation if I use a browser other than Firefox.
I am using Microsoft XP. I am trying to do this operation using Mozilla Firefox. How do I accomplish this?

Webmail sites typically have a link tool that appears on the formatting bar above the compose box. The specifics might vary but generally speaking, if you click the button for the link tool, paste the link, then OK that, a link should be inserted at the current cursor position.
To see what I mean for Yahoo! mail, check out this thread: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/938081 url is not highlighted when sending it on an email and cannot be directly accessed].

  • Possible to insert a HYPERLINK in document HEADER?

Subject: Possible to insert a HYPERLINK in document HEADER?
I have a 300 page document, where the first page is a "Table of Contents".
I would like to provide the readers with a QUICK way ("no-brainer/easy" way) for the reader to JUMP back to that "Table of Contents" page from any place in the document.
Can I, perhaps, insert a hyperlink to the "Table of Contents" in the document HEADER? Or is there a different way to go about this?
Thanks for anybody's creative answer (the simpler the better . . . .)

    Hi.
    Thanks for your reply.
It was originally a Microsoft Word document. I just clicked "convert to pdf" from the toolbar. Then, in Acrobat 8, I have inserted a page-number header.
Can I perhaps insert a hyperlink within that HEADER . . . pointing back to the first (Table of Contents) page?
