Picprint mis-position picture anchors

We use the following VB script to print Report sheets to Word doc. The problem is the pictures keeps anchoring further down (south of the Column break) on each page of the doc. We need to keep the picture consistently anchor at the same position on each page. Any ideas on how to do this?
The problem occurs on the following environment
Windows: 7
DIAdem: 11
MS Word: 2010
We believe that this problem does not occur using MS Word 2007.
for sheetNum = 1 to graphSheetCount            ' Cycle through all sheets
  PrintFromPage = sheetNum
  PrinttoPage   = sheetNum
  Call GraphSheetNGet(sheetNum)
  Call GraphSheetShow(GraphSheetName)
  Call PicMaxPageCalc
For pageNum=1 to MaxYPage 'Printing all pages of the table
    CurrYPage = pageNum
    Dim myRange
    Const wdPasteMetafilePicture = 3
    'Insert a picture
'Call  WdEasyTextCenter(Word,"")     'Insert CRLF before picture
Call PicPrint("WinClip")             'Copy graph device to clip board
    Set myRange = word.ActiveDocument.Range(word.ActiveDocument.Range.End-1, word.ActiveDocument.Range.End)
    myrange.PasteSpecial , , , ,wdPasteMetafilePicture
    if pageNum <> MaxYPage then
      call WdPageBreak(Word)
    end if
  next
  if sheetNum <> graphSheetCount then
   call WdPageBreak(Word)
  end if
Next

Hi Larry,
VBScript and Word are both Microsoft products.  There's is nothing in the metafile paste method that belongs to DIAdem.  This is a question for Microsoft to answer, "How can I get your VBScript language to paste a picture file into your Word program using its ActiveX interface?".
If I knew the answer, I'd be happy to tell you, but I don't.,

  • Mail mis-positions Viewer Windows on relaunch

I run Mail 4.3 on 10.6.4 with 5 Viewer Windows:
    • a large Inbox window on my main monitor
    • 3 short windows on my right monitor showing 3 favorite folders (Sent + 2 others)
    • a large "work" window on my right monitor showing whatever folder I happen to be using at the moment
When I quit Mail and relaunch, the five Viewer Windows reappear with their former sizes, positioned in two "stacks" (windows precisely on top of each other):
    • large windows
    • short windows
The positions of these two stacks corresponds to the most recently active (touched) large and short windows before Mail quits.
It takes only a minute to select and reposition the three mis-positioned windows, but it annoying to have to do this every ... time ... I ... launch ... Mail.

P.S. I've submitted this as formal Mail Feedback.

I know this problem for a long time now. We would like to use Apple Mail as our companies email software, but we need to have about 20 mailbox lists open to be able to track what needs to be done. As long as Apple Mail does not remember the positions and states of each open window, the application is useless for us, which is quite a shame. Anyone else with this problem?
    Apple, please fix it!

  • Converting a Quark Document with Pictures Anchored to Text

I've been working on this roster book for a golf club for some 8 years now. It was created in QuarkXpress, and has members' photos anchored to their listings, so it's easy to be updating this book every year.
I'd like to move this project into ID, but the test I ran (using Q2ID) was not satisfactory, 'cause the pictures were not anchored to the text anymore...
Is there a way to actually correct this, or am I stuck with Quark when updating the book again?...
    ...Thanks....

Is it that easy?.... From what I know, I have to select the picture with the Selection tool, copy it, move to the Text tool, position the cursor at the beginning of the member-listing, where I want the photo to anchor, and hit Paste... Then I have to select the Selection too again and move it down so it lines up with the first line of the listing...  That's quite a job, when I have more than 600 listings, 80% of which have a picture, or two....
If I can't have the Quark file convert to ID globally, keeping all those hundreds of photos anchored, I'll probably revert to performing the annual updates back in Quark...

  • Specific positioning of anchored frames

How do I insert an anchored frame at exactly 1/2 inch from the left margin? Once I get that done, can I copy that frame and paste it in another location and have it be that same exact distance from the left margin? Thanks!

You need to use the "Outside text frame" positioning option and
specify the "Distance from Text Frame" value as negative number.
The value you'll need is a function of the width of the anchored frame
and the offset of text frame itself from the left margin.
For example, if you have a 1.0" offset of the text frame from the left
side and your anchored frame is 3.0" wide, then you need to specify
-2.5" as the offset to get the anchored frame to start 0.5" from the
    left side of the page.
If you are wanting the anchored frame positioned 0.5" relative to the
left side of the text frame itself, then simply add ).5" to the width
of the anchored frame and enter that as a negative number.
You can copy and paste these as required and they will retain their
    position.
Note: pay attention to the baseline offset value (Distance from
Baseline) for the anchored frame as well.

  • Positioning with anchors

I want to know that if i am putting a anchor from a label to a frame, from where should i pull the anchor, it has to be from the edge of the bounding rectangle for the label and it cannot be from the center of the label. But when i run the report which has the anchor and the label as described above, the positining of the anchor with the label is getting distorted.
Please help in confirming my doubt that the anchor can be pulled only fron the edge of the bounding rectangle for the label.

Anchors maintain the relative position between objects. If you pull from the center of the label to the center of the frame then the label will move to always be in the center of the frame as the frame expands.
If you want to set the absolute position then, you are correct, you need to anchor to the appropriate edge of the object. You can bring up the property inspector agianst the anchor and set these values directly. Using the UI which may not give you the (0,0) values you may need.

  • Best Practices for image layout and positioning using anchored frames in Framemaker 10

    Hi,
I'm looking for the best practices in how to layout my images in Framemaker 10 so that they translate correctly to Robohelp 9. I currently have images inside of Anchored frames that "Run into" the right side of my text. I've adjusted the size of the anchored frame so that my text flows correctly around the image. Everything looks good in Framemaker! Yeah! The problem is that when I link my Framemaker document to Robohelp, the text does not flow around my image in the same manner. On a couple of Robohelp screens the image is running into the footer. I'm wondering if I should be using tables in Framemaker in order to get the page layout that I'm looking for. Also, I went back and forth...is this a Framemaker question or is this a Robohelp question. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I wish I could offer some advice, rather than simply adding to your question. I think there is something odd that happens with anchored frames.
I have been going through fits trying to figure out why the placement of my graphics shifts when I run them through Frame 10-to-RoboHelp 9 conversion. The placement in our books is flush left to the body text area. However, when they convert, some are flush left, some are centered, and a very few are flush right. My boss is very unhappy with me, as I have been unable to figure out why this is happening. I didn't create these files, so I don't know if it's something that goes back to how the graphics were initially imported. But I can't figure out why everything looks right in Framemaker, with the frame attached to an anchor tag, etc. but the placement goes hinky when they convert.
Any insights are appreciated. I'm wondering if it's going to come down to deleting them and recreating the graphic frame.

  • Position picture in non standard size paper

I want to print a horizontal picture on a prefolded card stock which measures 5.5"wide by 8.5" long, folded in half to give a print area of 4.25x5.5.

Just tried it, dang, it actualy works.  I'd make a Duplicate of the photo first, and use the Duplicate's Timeline, cause if you screw something up, it can become difficult to fix sometimes.  Good idea, Tom!

  • What's the trick to positioning named anchors on a side scrolling site?

I'm putting together a page that scrolls to the right. My problem is getting the named anchor for a div that's to the right of the screen to slide over to the left of the screen. Right now it only goes to the right, so what's in the div is still out of view.
Sorry I don't have a link up to what I've started so you can see what I mean.
I've been trying to figure out the CSS and HTML behind www.deanoakly.com to figure out how he does it. Can anyone here take a look to see? Any help is much appreciated!
When  I say the page scrolls to the right I mean to the left. It stops at the anchor to the right, but the content I want in view is still to the right. Is there a way of getting that anchor to stop on the left of the screen, rather than the right?

You misspelled the name of the site. It's http://deanoakley.com.
Anyway, it's done using JavaScript. The details of the technique used on that site are here: http://lab.centralscrutinizer.it/the-tiny-scrollings/.

  • AE CS5 - Shape Layer - Anchor point moves after position keyframe

I am experiencing unintuitive (to me) behaviour with a brand new shape layer. Here are the steps to reproduce the issue. I have made a screen cap of the problem but can't figure out how to upload it to this forum.
    1. In an existing composition, I create a new Shape Layer
    2. By default the anchor point (center point) is in the dead center of the shape layer. Perfect.
    3. I turn on Position keyframing, and add a position keyframe at my current time
    4. Instantly the anchor point now jumps to the center of the composition, and so now when I scale my shape layer it doesn't scale properly
If I try to use the Pan Behind tool, I get position keyframing. Besides, I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THIS, since the anchor point was in the correct spot to start with, and it's only because of this keyframing "bug" that the anchor point jumps.
What am I missing or doing wrong? How can I add a position keyframe to a BRAND NEW LAYER that has no other animation on it, and still keep the anchor point in the dead center of my shape?
    Thanks for your advice,
    Tom

Thanks to Rick and Mylenium for your helpful answers. Rick, I'd prefer not to have to manually reposition, because I'm never going to be as mathematically precise as the software for positioning the Anchor Point dead center.
Using the transform controls on the shape rather than the global container certainly did the trick! You guys are great. Thanks.
    [rant]
In my defense as far as the constant exhortations to "RTFM", we all know that most veteran software users only go to the manual when there's a problem. You also know that Adobe's help system (particluarly in regards to search) has gotten worse over the years, not better. So when I run into a situation like this, I'm going to search through the help for what I believe the problem is: namely "anchor points", "transformations" and "keyframes", and maybe "shape layers". This is a fair amount of research, and it's exactly what I do as my first line of defense.
The second line of defense that most tech savvy folk do, is a Google search; for example: "anchor point moves after position keyframe" or "After Effects shapes layer anchor point moves keyframe" etc. And you spend your time sifting through forums trying to find the relevant answers. I feel that THAT is my true due diligence, rather than reading the F'n Adobe manual that is so very very sparse.
So after my due diligence, I turn to the experts communities, because there I know I will get educated, reliable help within a reasonable turnaround time. And because I myself contribute to these same forums in areas where I have higher than average expertise. The Adobe Forums have proven to be one of the great online resources.
Finally, now that I have a great answer from two knowledgeable experts (thanks again!), I've also enriched the community, because of the way I have crafted my post title, hopefully the next poor ******* who has a similar problem and a similar methodology to finding resolution will stubmle upon my post because I've tried to overload the title with relevant keywords that will generate hits in google.
Through my question, and your accurate answers, the global knowledgebase has improved.
So forgive me for not memorizing the F'n Adobe online help. I go to the resources that are the most useful, expedient, and provide the greatest value as a whole.

    Peace,
    Tom

  • Images as anchored objects in text

I use CS4 on a Mac. I'm working on a book with photos of my art in the text. Before I've used Place to insert all images. (I use Picasa to straighten and crop my photos, they are all jpgs in high resolution, the photos are in a separate folder on my Mac).
To make the pictures anchored objects in-line, I first place the graphic, then according to the instructions I cut, then paste in text, select image, then set the anchored object above the text etc.
    http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/video_workshop/?id=vid0073
My question is what happens to the image when you cut and paste. Does it retain it's placed format, like file size and resolution? It seems my InDesign file should be bigger with the added images.
    Should I be worried?

When use File>Place to insert an image to InDesign - InDesign creates a low-res thumbnail to act as a "placeholder" to the original image.
It's very cumbersome on the computer when viewing the images in full resolution within InDesign. As it could be displaying 10mb for each image and 10 images would 100 mb per page, quite a lot to render; for example.
Anchoring objects has no bearing on the file size (well maybe a little).
The file size and resolution is not affected when you place an image. But the Resolution is affected if you SCALE the image any amount.
If you go to the Window>Info panel and select an image then you can see TWO options ACTUAL and EFFECTIVE PPI.
Actual refers to what the original PPI of the image is (ppi = pixels per inch and refers to resolution)
And Effective shows the the PPI after the image has been scaled.
For example if you place a 72 ppi image and scale it 24% it will now be Effectively 300 ppi (100/24)*72=300
For printing you should ensure that the image quality is 300 ppi (it's a general rule of thumb and it's not entirely accurate but that's what most printing places operate at as a standard).
For the record - you should resave images as JPG if you make ANY alteration to them (as a rule of thumb) saving as JPG over and over can add jpeg artifacts to the image which will degrade the image over time, as jpeg is a lossy format (information is removed with each save). A better way would be to save as TIFF as this is a LOSSLESS format - in that no data is removed upon saving.
I wouldn't recommend Picassa for your image editing. You should get Photohsop or failing that a free open source program like GIMP.

I copied text & paisted it and then draged the 3 photos from the file...then clicked on the photo then clicked the inline boxon tool bar nexed to floating one and that is how I did it
I do not know what you mean "cut & paist"  how do I get the photo in from my picter folder if I do not drag it to the page in Pages?
I went to my photo folder and copied a photo and paisted the photo on the top left part of the page and it went there but there was no text to the right of photo...I could crop the photo to what ever size but no text to the right of photo...
This is just too big of a mess of a program as it should be easier then this,,,I hav e 300 photos in this project and would have to re-paist them all...that is nuts...
I see the button to the right of inline and floating that has 6 [lace to have the photo but the text does not float around the photo...
If this is what your talking about this very little freedom in my page layout as I need it to let me place it where I need it to be and the wrap the text...
There has to be an easier way to get my books ready for other formats other that Apple's iPad...iBooks Author was way eisier to make ready for iTunes...Love that program!!!
Want my books for sale on all the other formats and was told by Apple Pages whould do it...
I must be be out to lunch or the designers at Apple are ???

  • Anchors above anchored frames

    Hi all,
I'm developing some templates for computer software manuals. I need a nice neat generic method for adding images and their titles. I need the figure titles to be positioned in the side heading, aligned with the top of the figure beside it.
For tables I use a TableTitle side heading paragraph format that has a Table paragraph format after it with a negative space after value. The table format has a negative space before value, so when inserted it lines up nicely with the top of the table title.
I would like to do something similar for figures, but I can't seem to find a method of positioning the anchored frame that works. 'Below current line' would be ideal, if that didn't leave me with the line holding the anchor above it, which the side heading is then aligned with instead. Is there a way to apply a paragraph format to the anchored frame that would allow me to enter a negative space before value like i do with the table? Or is there some other way to align the anchored frame with the top of the title beside it?
Thanks very much to anyone who can help,
    Kat

    Kat,
I hope I understand your problem correctly.
The paragraph containing the figure title is positioned in the side head with alignment set to Top Edge. Then that paragraph is followed by another paragraph, which of course is in the main text column, empty, and aligned at the top with the side head.
With the insertion point in the second paragraph, import the image file. This puts the image below the line. Select the image, not the anchored frame, and scale it if necessary. If not created at the correct size, you probably want to scale it down to fit the width of the text column. Now press the key sequence Esc, m, p (note m and p are lowercase). The anchored frame shrinks to fit tightly around the image and changes it position to At Insertion Point. If you turn on Text Symbols, you will see the end-of-paragraph symbol at the lower right edge of the image, and the top of the anchored frame will align with the TOP of the side head text.
You also have to be sure the line spacing of the paragraph holding the image is NOT fixed or Frame will move the image up.
Hope this is what you need,
    Van

  • Another problem: anchor for bottom page doesn't work as expected

    Hey there again,
I have another small problem that i am facing. I would like to put some objects on the bottom of my my page, not the footnote. So i simply choose to anchor the object to the bottom middle by clicking the reprentative point in the menue. I expected that now the object that i want 100px above the bottom of the "screen" would be anchored but instead it simply disappears, i cant find it in the preview. Not even all the way down at the footnote. so how exactly can I put an object at the bottom of the screen so it will stay there no matter if i scroll down?
I hope this text is not to confusing, if there are any questions about the problem please don't hesitate to ask!
    All the best,
    Lucas

    Hey there Mdermez,
i tried both ways and they result in the same problem that i alrady have, that the one object that i fix to one certain postion on the page will appear differrent on different screens. I am working with two different sized screens and on one (the bigger one) it will simply be where i want it just as you explained but on the smaller one it will be to far down the page to be visible. When i fix it to the small screen to ebject will hover in the middle of the big screen. so what i am trying to archiev is that the object will stay at the bottom of the screen no matter what the screen size is so in fact i cant fix it to a certain position but anchor it to the bottom of the screen. Is this possible?
    all the best,
    Lucas

  • I having problems in using layers. I need to combine six pictures in one. Please help!

I have 6 pictures that I need to combine in one.

    if1996 wrote:
I have 6 pictures that I need to combine in one.
    if1996,
I am assuming that you wish to place these pictures on one background as a collage, and that your paper stock is 8.5"x11".
Ideally, these 6 pictures will have the same resolution. You can check this via Image>resize>image size. It is expressed in px/in. The rule of thumb is that for printing, the resolution should be in 240-300px/in range
Do the math so that the 6 pictures will fit on to the canvas - perhaps some are in landscape orientation, some portrait.
If you need to crop a picture(s) to a specific size, use the crop tool (on a duplicate picture).
If you are with me so far, try the following:
Go to File>new>blank file, enter width& height of the paper, and resolution the same value as that of the pictures or as close as possible., background color to suit
Open picture A, go to Select>all, go to Edit>copy to place it on the clipboard
Go back to the blank file, then Edit>paste
Use the move tool to position picture A, and to resize it with the corner handles of the bounding box, if necessary
Repeat steps 2-4 for pictures B,C,D,E,F.
You should have 7 layers: Background (the canvas) and 6 layers with the pictures. No doubt you will have to adjust the position of the pictures - just activate the appropriate layer, and use the move tool.
For orientation, it is very helpful to have the grid open (View>grid). This will not print.

  • Move Layer but Keep Anchor Still

Hi, I know I can use the pan behind tool to move the anchor of an layer. Now for adjustment purposes I need to move the layer but keep the anchor point where it is ... otherwise it changes the path of animation. Is that possible ?
    Regards,
    Frank

I take it that you have your motion path animated and you want to change the position of the layer relative to that path. If you've keyframed position then just adjust the values of the anchor point in the timeline. You can click and drag on the values so that you can see the movement of the layer relative to the path.
If you've animated a layer by setting keyframes in the anchor point then you can change the relative position of the layer by scrubbing through the position values in the timeline.
If you've animated both position and anchor point then you can open up the layer in the layer panel, reveal the anchor point path, select all anchor point keyframes in the timeline, than click and drag on any of the anchor point keyframes to drag them all without creating a new keyframe. You can see and move position keyframes from any plug-in that has position properties in the layer window and do the same thing.
You can use the same select all keyframes in the timeline technique to grab and move an entire position motion path in the composition window.
If that doesn't give you a solution I don't understand your problem.
