Pictures from new iPhone 5s

I just bought a brand new iPhone 5s. I took a couple pictures with it before plugging it into my computer to get my old phones contacts and music and such. How do I get the pictures I took before restoring it with my old phones stuff?

Had you chosen as a new iPhone or not from the backup instead of selecting to transfer the backup for the old iPhone, the Camera Roll and no other data on the iPhone would have been touched. You then could have imported the photos with your computer followed by restoring the iPhone from the backup for the old iPhone.

If you want to transfer your camera roll photos, along with text messages and other data and settings from your old phone to your new one, back up the old phone then restore the backup to your new one (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2109). It sounds like you are using an application to import. You can do it manually.
Start > Computer (on the right) > scroll to the bottom and you will see your iPhone under Portable Devices > Open it and you will see a Drive, open that and there will be a DCIM folder. That is where your photos will be (There may be other folders each holding photos).

If you've previously synced the pictures to a computer (as is generally advised to archive them), then they are gone, unless you have backed up the device to itunes or icloud. If so, you need to perform a restore:

Go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings. This will erase your phone. Then you will go through the setup screens again as you did when your phone is new, and when given the option, select Restore from iCloud Backup.
Note that you cannot restore just one file, it's all or nothing.

I've tried it but my pc only identifies new hardware when itunes and all the other "mac" related crap is deleated from my pc. When it's all removed I can see the camera icon in "my computer" straight away! It's like the software from Apple is blocking anything from being uploaded externally!
