Ping does not work on L2TPv3 tunnel
Hi, I have a simple lab setup for testing the L2TPv3. Diagram is attached.
The router simulated PCs (192.168.10.1 and 192.168.10.2) just can not ping each other. Here below are the comfiguration of the 2 routers. I tried to put in "ip pmtu" under pseudowire-class; I tried to adjust-mss under interface of the two router simulated PCs to 1400 or even 1360, none of them changed a thing.
Please advise.

Ssh tunnel mode on Leopard does not work
Hi folks,
I have set up ssh tunnel mode (tunnels opened with "ssh -w 0:0 ..." makes SSH create the necessary tunX interfaces on its own) from my linux boxes to certain servers, and it works well.
But using "ssh -w 0:0" on Leopard client leads to
debug1: systunopen: /dev/tun0 open failed: No such file or directory<<</div>
So it seems - although the ssh man page describes it thus - that creating tun interfaces on Leopard does not work.
By the way, omitting the interface numbers for the tun interfaces on both sides ("ssh -w" instead of "ssh -w 0:0") leads to "Bad tun device" although that as well is documented in the ssh man page as working (and on linux it does).
Has anybody ever tried this on MacOS X in general and Leopard in particular?Dirk,
I have run into the same issue, however I had ssh tunnels running between several macs before Dec 7 2008. But for some reason it broke on that day. Have been running remote rsync backups of the User data. Can give you the syntax if you want. But my point is it looks like this is a break in the OSX Unix system vs them just not being there as this was working prior to the 7th for several months.
Am working with Apple to get this resolved but in the mean time where did you find the tun/tap drivers? I have some for Open VPN that I have been playing with on another machine but dunno if they will work or not. -
IChat 4 AV does not work in Leopard
iChat 4 AV does not work in OS 10.5. iChat 3 worked in OS 10.4.x with no problems. Why the problem?
I have iMac G5 20-inch with 2.5-gb memory using Motorola SB5101 cable modem provided by ISP Roadrunner (Brighthouse Bakersfield CA).
I am relatively new to the Apple world (12 months switching from the dark side). I am not a hardware-software engineer. Read discussions, and tried a few things to no avail; eg, no where to set port settings on cable modem.
It appears most people paid for something that does not work. So, now what? Is Apple working on a fix? If so, any idea when it will be released?Got similar problems. Interesting, I can chat with Test Buddies but not to real buddies. Here is the error message:

Internet does not work after Installation of Oracle10g on SuSE 10 Enterpris
Hi,
I installed SUSE 10 then configured the network services using network manager as it did not work by just putting the DNS servers and router address. The internet was working fine till I installed Oracle 10g. It somehow modified my DNS address from 203.97.33.1 to 203.97.33.14. The web interface for Oracle works fine.
If I run the Network manager again, my internet starts working but the Oracle web interface does not work.
I do not understand what's happening. Please help.
Thanks.I have never liked using Network Manager with Oracle. If you use traditional ifup, you can use SCPM and have different profiles. The first 2 things I do during an install of Suse Linux that will have Oracle 10g is disable Network Manager and disable IPv6. Go to /etc/hosts and remove all entries that have the IPv6 addresses. The 10g OC4J applications from database and application servers have problems with IPv6 addressing. Make note of your current DNS addresses and your route before reconfiguring to ifup. Use route -n to get the router address if you do not already know it. It is the gateway with values. It is also a good idea to configure your wired ethernet device to start on boot up, then you can ping your hostname whether or not your cable becomes disconnected, i.e. still access dbconsole with the router down.

Ralink RT5390 Does Not Work on the UEK Kernel
We installed OL6.3 and Ubuntu 12.04 on a new Asus X45A notebook. It has a Ralink RT5390 wireless card. With Ubuntu, both wifi and video work flawlessly. However, the wifi driver (from elrepo) does not work for the the uek kernel (2.6.39). While the wifi driver works when boot into the RHEL kernel (2.6.32), it created an "even bigger problem" in that the video starts at about 1/10 from the left edge of the screen.
As a result, we can only boot into Ubuntu on this new notebook, but we would like to use the uek kernel. Any suggestion will be appreciated.Dude wrote:
It wouldn't surprise me if was more power efficient because half your hardware, e.g. wireless apparently isn't working ;-) I have three notebooks running OL6. Wireless works on all three of them. (One of the notebooks its wireless has problem with the UEK kernel, but no problem with the RHEL kernel.)
However, power management support means computer sleep and idle functions to slow down your computer's power
consumption when it is not needed, e.g. down clock your CPU and slow down your hardware, dim your screen, etc.
when running on battery, etc. This needs further verification, but all these functions seem to be working with OL6.
But again, please no one be fooled by my overly optimistic and simplistic comments*. The reality is, I am glad OL6 desktop works at all.
* For example, I actually installed OL6 on 4 notebooks, one of them "does not work" because I couldn't dim the screen. I did not intend to lie, but subconsciously, I somewhat forgot that there was this failed case.

Internet does not work after kernel upgrade (quite strange)
Hi guys
My internet (only at home) does not work anymore with kernel 2.6.27. at university it works just fine. isn't that funny
it has something to do with packet sizes interestingly enough... because i can ping "the internet" (i.e. kernel.org) just fine at home but wget kernel.org fails. ping -s 1000 fails as well, so it's probably really related to packet size.
I use DSL which has a strange value for MTU i heard, but it works just fine with lower kernel versions. I am a bit lost by now...
Btw: it's actually not arch-patch-related, so sorry for posting this here (i already mailed it to the lkml) but i thought maybe there are people here who are interested in strange problems
cheers Barde
PS: what i meant to say actually is that if you're not interested in my problem, just ignore this threadOk, I downgraded again, very carefully & rebooted to an internet working as it should be.
Sorry for throwing some confusion on the matter, I had, had a very long day with an Arch install that went wrong(!) the day before & must have been brain addled when downgrading yesterday.
I will now have another look at the machine that's install is stuck & see if I can understand why, with my new found knowledge.
Thanks to all for your much needed help.
[Edit:]
My 2nd machine was suffering the same problem which it caught during a fresh install of Arch!
I have edited some of my previous posts to try to remove confussion created by my failed first downgrade attempt. {embarrassment}

MAC Authentication does not work
My MAC Authentication does not work.
I have a ACS 3.0 server set. the MAC address is set in the user name field and in the password field.
I can ping the ACS, I can ping my AP, I can ping my client.
I don't want WEP and I don't want LEAP just MAC. So I set my authentication to "Open with MAC" My client has WEP set to NO WEP and authentication to OPEN
I have the latest drivers for both AP and my 350 Client.
I see that the client is associating and disassociating back and forth non stop. My AP log is full with the following message:
Station 0009.7c9f.xxxx Authentication failed

Server does not work in yosemite
Help! My OS X Server does not work after upgrade to Yosemite! Disaster!!!
After the disappointment that I cant manage the servers running the previous versions of OSX server from my upgraded desktop. I upgraded my office server to 10.10 Yosemite with OSX Server 4.0 I am still not able to connect.
I can remote desktop into the server without a problem (both are on the same LAN with the server on .local). But the Server app is not able to connect.
Actions taken so far:
Update software on desktop to 10.10 and Server 4.0
Update software on server to 10.10 and Server 4.0
Verified connection by pinging IP and .local
Verified to connect to the drive and screen sharing via local network
Rebooted router + switch
Rebooted desktop + server
If you manage OSX servers for clients, keep a system on 10.9 around so you can still keep your business running.
Upgrading the server needs to be done on site with display, keyboard and mouse connected.
Apple please fix a.s.a.p. -
Oracle Applications 11i Load Balancing does not work with RAC one Node
Hi all,
Could you help me to resolve this issue.
Architecture environment is :
- One APPS tier node
- Two nodes Oracle Database Appliance (Primary node 1 holds INSTANCE_1 et Secondary node is configurured to holds INSTANCE_2), i.e RAC one Node.
- The primary node have instance_name SIGM_1 and the secondary node have instance_name SIGM_2, but in RAC one node, the secondary instance is not alive.
We convert our EBS 11i environment to RAC following note ID Using Oracle 11g Release 2 Real Application Clusters with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i [ID 823586.1].
When testing Database failover, Oracle Applications 11i load balancing does not work anymore.
The root cause is that, when the primary node of the Rac one node is down, the INSTANCE_NAME_1 is automaically relocating to the surviving node,.
During test failover, we imagine that when the primary node goes down, the secondary node start or relocate database with instance_name SIGM_2, and in that case the Oracle Applications load balancing works.
Currently, when the primary node goes down, the instance_name SIGM_1 is relocated on the secondary node, which cause failure of Oracle Applications Load Balancing.
Thank you for your advice.
MoussaThis is something I observed a long time ago for Safari (ie: around version 1). I'm not sure this is Safari, per se, but OpenSSL that is responsible for the behavior. I'm pretty sure Chrome does this and I've seen some Linux browsers do it.
What I have done at the last two companies I've worked for is recommend that our clients do not use SSL SessionID as the way of tracking sticky sessions on web servers, but instead using IP address. This works in nearly all cases and has few downsides. The other solution is to use some sort of session sharing on your web servers to mitigate the issue (which also means that your web servers aren't a point of failure for your users' sessions). (One of the products I supported had no session information stored on the web servers, so we could safely round-robin requests, the other product could be implemented with a Session State Server... but in most cases we just used IP address to load balance with). The other solution is to configure your load balancer to terminate the SSL tunnel. You get some other benefits from this, such as allowing your load balancer to reduce the number of actual connections to the web servers. I've seen many devices setup this way.
One thing to consider through this is that - due to the way internet standards work - this really can't be termed a bug on anyone's part. There is no guarantee in the SSL/TLS standards that a client will return the same SSL Session ID for each request and there is not requirement that subsequent requests will even use the same tunnel. Remember, HTTP is a stateless protocol. Each request is considered a new request by the web server and everything else is just trickery to try and get it to work the way you want. You can be annoyed at Safari's behavior, but it's been this way for over 5 years by my count, so I don't expect it to change. -
Cisco 1841 as PPTP client Does not work
Dear All,
I have Cisco 1841 router running the below roles
1) SSL VPN Server
2) PPTP Server
3) Site to Site Connection with Sonicwall router
I want the router to be configured a pptp client to internet vpn server (so that i will get a fixed public ip )
Once i get this ip address i want to use this connection to accept in coming connection and forward ports to internal host,
I went through below
http://www.mreji.eu/content/cisco-router-pptp-client
https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2167562
But it does not work as i do not have the option for the below 2 commands in vpdn-group 2 section.(Please see section in blue)

Have you turned Off the DOS or SPi item in the WAN Page and Also Allowed Responses to Pings on the WAN Port ?

Why my pro's mDNSResponder does not work?
I have a problem , I can connect to Internet by Browser , but When I ping a website domain . such as ping www.google.com ,it shows error information "ping: cannot resolve www.google.com: Unknown host", I guess maybe my local dns does not work。so I excute command "ps axu | grep -i DNS",I found mDNSResponder does not running。I also see system log, here is the /var/log/system.log

I opened up youTube using a shortcut from the Cocoppa app last night, and the screen froze, my home button would not work, so I locked it. The phone was charging at the time and nowhere near dead. After I did so, I pressed the lock and the home button [ not at the same time ] and the screen would not light up at all, it remained completely black. So, I unplugged it and plugged it back into the charger and it made the little sound it does when you do so, that told me it was not dead, and had not turned off. I held the lock button down to turn it off and swiped where the "slide to shut down" bar would normally be if my screen actually worked. It did nothing. My phone screen does not work at all now, even though it makes sounds such as Siri's little pinging noise when you hold down the home button. I am thoroughly confused and urgently need help to solve this problem.

IPv6 does not work (MacMini late 2014)
Hello,
recently I bought an new MacMini late 2014 to use this machine as an OpenDirectory server to service request from our file servers and other boxes. Therefore this computer is configured with static ip addresses (v4, v6) within a separate server vlan. Nothing special, other machines (FreeBSD, OSX 10.9) within this segment are working well. The native en0 interface has the two server-lan addresses (v4, v6), an additional vlan interface of en0 is differently configured (v4; v6 only link local. All other initially active network interfaces are deactivated (thunderbold-bridge, bluetooth, WiFi etc.), because they are of no use.
Because of the machine's job as a server, I deactivated all temporary ipv6 address games (sysctl).
This standard configuration simply does not work as intended:
IPv4: communications to servers in the same lan segment are possible, the firewall is reachable, outside connections can be established.
IPv6: HORROR!
Different reactions between "no route to host" (hey, read your kernel tables and use the routes!) and timeouts (it read the kernel routing table, but failed with nd). The ping (ping6) targets are in this first step of testing machines within the same lan segment. Ping-ing of non-local, existing link local addresses is not possible. The MacMini sees itself but nothing more.
All firewalls (via GUI) are turned off, the computer is rebooted again and again. I checked sysctl for mess with packet filters and found an entry for an activation of an ipv6 fw (firewall?!), which I deactivated -- without success.
Software: 10.10 (delivery) plus update to 10.10.1; Apps: OSX Server.
Has anyone ideas what to check further (beside of using a network sniffer)?
WolfgangI have a mid-2010 Macmini running 10.10.3 with similar IPv6 symptoms. Not picking up a global address from RA, can't ping6 other link-local addresses, IPv4 working fine. Driving me crazy!

Java 7 U25 work around does not work for windows 8
I'm working on a java application which uses the statistical software R. This line Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(C:\Program Files\R\R-2.15.1 + "/bin/" + "R CMD BATCH " + "./data/rJava.R"); in the application started throwing an error after the java 7 u25 update, but it was fixed by using the work around setting jdk.lang.Process.allowAmbigousCommands to true. This fix however does not work in windows 8, although the command does not error out with "cannot create process = 2" it just executes the line, but does nothing. But if I typed the command (R CMD BATCH " + "./data/rJava.R) directly into the commandline, it works perfectly. I've tried disabling the work around, and actually using suggested solutions in the release notes (see below), all worked in windows 7, but no success with windows 8. Any suggestions would be great
Process p = new ProcessBuilder("c:\\Program File\\foo.exe").start();
Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(new String[] { "c:\\Program File\\foo.exe" });
Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("\"c:\\Program File\\foo.exe\"");avancentcisco - Win7 works fine with SSL VPN. But since we all were migrating to Win8, this was of no use to us. So we ditched SSL VPN all together.
IPSec VPN with Cisco VPN Client (version 5.0.07) works absolutely fine on Windows 8. Once you get the set up right, everything works fine (we are using full tunnel) including internet access.
If you struggle to get it working then let me know and I can help you out. There's not much info out there on the internet. I had to do it the hard way.
