Pkgadd problems

Hello everyone. I am trying to install gcc on my solaris 7 box, but I am out of disk space on the / partition. My question is: when running pkgadd where does it unpack the files to? If I knew the location I could create a symlink to a partition that does have enough space. Or if anyone has any other creative work-arounds I'll accept those.
Thanks in advance all!
- Adam

Another thing you can do is copy /var/sadm/install/admin/default to the place where you have more room (we will call it admin for example purposes), then modify the line that says basedir=default (change default to the path of where you want to put gcc). When you do your pkgadd command, use the following:
pkgadd -d <package name> -a admin
This lets you install the package in the current directory to the directory you identified with basedir. The only problem you might have is if there are any files that need gcc to exist in another location you would have to find a way to let them know where it exists. This will work for other packages as well if you ever have a need to overide the default install location.

  • Pkgadd problem with reloc as a cpio file

I have a package that we create and distribute (it's a product we have been shipping for a number of years).
After creating the package with pkgm, I put the contents of the reloc into a cpio file named "reloc" (I don't recall where I read about doing this - I don't think it's in the documentation, but it worked fine on Solaris 8). This is primarily for convenience (so that we distribute a program with a half dozen files instead of dozens).
However, we get errors like this when installing our package on Solaris 10 for each file. The installation appears to go OK however.
    ## Installing part 1 of 1.
pkgadd: ERROR: unable to open </StarSQL/package/SunOS/starsql/reloc/starsql/bin/config-lic> for reading: (20)

If I expand the reloc cpio before installing, the messages do not appear.
Suggestions? Am I using an undocumented feature that has been deprecated?

    Hi,
Suppose you called 03|COUNT1|F4 row as "trailer" in recordset structure.
Then you can use the following parameters:
trailer.missingLastfields = ignore - to get converted to XML only fileds that have been filled in
trailer.missingLastfields = add - to have last fileds filled with empty values
trailer.missingLastfields = error - to terminate FCC since file has not complete structure

This looks like a known problem with TTA 4.00.903 and some Solaris
patches which were distributed at about the same time. However, you say
you're using 4.10.903, and as far as I know the problem should be fixed

You could try the workaround described in

  • Setup-Problem while installing AM Policy Agent 2.1 on Solaris 10

I'm new with AccessManager and try to get it working on Solaris 10 on a Sparc.
    I'm using LDAP-Server, WEB-Server 6.1 and AccessManager from the software-paket: "Sun Java System Access Manager 6 2005Q1" .
While trying to install policy-agents on the Sparc (by starting setup program), I've got the message: "The installer ist intended for Solaris Operating System only".
The agent-software I'm trying to install is "Access Manager Policy Agent 2.1 for Sun Java System Web Server 6.1" From there I choosed "Solaris SPARC 8".
(so I've got the paket "S1WebServer_6[1].1_agent_2.1_sparc-sun-solaris2.8.tar.gz").
In my opinion, it must be correct. Ist there anything i'done wronge?
    thanks, Paul

Even when there is no agent available for Solaris 10 now:
If you don't have any doubt to use an unsupported configuration, at
least the apache agent is installable.
You have to extract the packages "SUNWamapc" and "SUNWcom"
from the tar-archive and install it using pkgadd.
Then, you have to configure it manually ("include" in "httpd.conf",
    "AMAgent.properties").
Maybe, it is possible to do something similiar with the agent for
    SUN webserver.
Be aware that noone will guarantee that such unsupported
    installations won't raise any problems.

  • Solaris 8 on IBM Thinkpad T20 - Display Problem!

    Hi Forum,
I have Solaris 8 07/01 installed on this IBM Tninkpad T20. The problem has been the display. It has S3 Savage IX 8. I need help to resolve this issue. Here's what I have done.
After installation of OS, latest patches were applied. Installed XFree86 without any problems. Configured and generated a /XF86Config.new file from /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 -configure. The XF86Config.new was copied as /XFConfig and /etc/X11/XFConfig. This file looks good detecting the Savage driver with this sentence in it: "Savage(0): VESA VBE DDC Support". I understand that this adapter has been picked up with correct configuration.
When I run XFree86, it just displays a grey screen with the mouse cursor in the middle of the screen, and no other action after that. No cursor movement or any response from the keyboard. Leading to cold boot of the system. in short, XFree86, did'nt quite work as it should have.
As an alternative, I have installed these two packages and patches for extended XSun support, which uses this existing XFree86 drivers. I downloaded and "pkgadd"ed the SUNWxf86u & SUNWxf86r and the patches, 109401-10 and 108653-30. Afterwhich, I did find additional adapters showing up in "kdmconfig". I did find Savage IX and other drivers which were'nt found earlier. Selected this driver, with various montitor types in the next scrreen, was unsuccessful in displaying the screen. I have tried the same with VESA and VGA compatible drivers too and different monitor types. Not getting the right display. I have to try the Xig patch. But the existing XFree86 and XSun should still do the work. Any Suggestions & help appreciated.

Regarding T20 laptops with Solaris8. See www.egroups.com Solaris on Intel archive. You can see that Solaris 8 can boot from this kind of hardware. One solution would be:
-Install from the network. Jumpstart installation if your model of laptop has a builtin NIC.
-See more details about this on Jumpstart installation.

  • Problem with zone creation in Solaris 10 6/06

    Hi,
I have configured and installed a non-global zone following the example given in the guide http//www.sun.com/software/solaris/howtoguides/posgresqlhowto.jsp. My zone has the following configuration:
    # zonecfg -z pg_zone
    zonecfg:pg_zone> info
    zonepath: /export/zones/pg_zone
    autoboot: true
    pool:
    fs:

    options: []
    net:
    address: 192.168.10.100/24
    physical: bge0
    zonecfg:pg_zone> exit
The installation completed but I got the following errors:
    # zoneadm -z pg_zone install
    Preparing to install zone <pg_zone>.
Creating list of files to copy from the global zone.
Copying <130101> files to the zone.

    Zone <pg_zone> is initialized.
Installation of these packages generated errors: <SUNWgnome-a11y-libs-share>
Installation of <63> packages was skipped.
The file </export/zones/pg_zone/root/var/sadm/system/logs/install_log> contains a log of the zone installation.
When examined the logs there were several messages like this:
    SUNW_PKG_THISZONE=true in the pkginfo file.
*** package <SUNWamutl> was not installed:
The package <SUNWamutl> is registered to be installed in the

that are fully installed in the global zone and that do not contain a
request script can be installed when a new zone is created. If this
package does not contain a request script, you can correct this
problem by removing and reinstalling the package in the global zone.
And when I try to boot the zone I get this error:
    # zoneadm -z pg_zone boot

zoneadm: zone 'pg_zone': call to zoneadmd failed
Any suggestion how to solve this problem?
    thanks

To answer your question wangzh: Yes I did. I actually followed exactly the procedure on the how-to-uides: http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/howtoguides/containersLowRes.jsp.
I think the problem here might reside in the script supplied in the solaris distribution for creating zones. For example, in the default configuration script, the package directories /lib /platform /var and /usr are by default set to be automatically imported. But when I try to create a zone using these defaults settings, it ends up with an mounting error that prevents the installation of the zone. only when I remove manually those directories from the configuration then the installation continues.
And during the installation process there are number of packages that are by default imported via the installation script and this is some of those packages that cause the errors here. I also tried to exclude the offending packages as suggested by henryC but I couldn't find all of them and the creation still fails at the booting.

  • PROBLEM PATCHING SOLARIS 10 FOR DST

OK - I messed up installing the DST patch, but now I cannot reinstall.
I used "pkgadd" to install the patch 122032-04. It went fine into the global zone, but "partially failed" going into my other 4 zones.
NOW - using "date" gives the correct time zone and time in all zones (including global), but my TOMCAT/SERVLETS do not get the correct time zone.
So - I read more and installed the mega-patch (fixes a zone bug): 119254-35. This patch was also installed with "pkgadd" (that's what the readme said).
Then I tried to reinstall the failed DST patch - 122032-04, but it won't go past the first dialog. It fails with "ld.so.1: patchadd: fatal: relocation error: file patchadd: symbol zonecfg_set_root: referenced symbol not found.
Note that the above latest error says "patchadd" that's because I've tried pkgadd AND patchadd - neither works but both give the same reference symbol not found error.
NOW WHAT??? I tred uninstalling the patch, but that failed as well - said it could not even find the package. (pkgrm).
    Thanks in advance.
    -Richard

Thanks. The DST patch actually was complete enough to work after reboot.
It's just the inability to remove the bad patch for now. I suspect there's a problem with the patches in that they want you to be in maintenance mode, but they also want the zones to be booted.
    I wish they would either
    a) figure this out and make single-user mode patches work when you are IN single user mode (without requiring other steps which ARE NOT SPECIFIED in the readme), or
    b) Allow these zone patches to be applied in normal operation mode (multi-user mode).

  • Problems in library libnsl.so.1

    Hi all!
By human error, the library was deleted libnsl.so.1 via ssh.
Libnsl.so.1 I tried to copy the file from another machine, via CD.
The Solaris server (10.6) via ssh does not connect more, and restart the machine, it is a loop in the message below:
WARNING: init(1M) exited on fatal signal 9: restarting automatically+
    over and over
I put the installation CD for Solaris 10.6, and rebooted the machine with the parameter:
    boot cdrom-sw
I tried to copy the file 'libnsl.so.1' original, but I believe it is compressed, as it did not solve the problem, and I can no longer logged on. When it asks the user (root), and I press ENTER, the following message appears:
ld.so.1: login: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/lib/passwdutil.so.1: symbol __nsl_fgetspent_r: referenced symbol not found+
I thought to remove the package SUNWcsl using the pkgrm command , and then reinstall it from the cdrom, but the following occurs:
    *#/usr/sbin/pkgrm -n  SUNWcsl*
pkg ERROR: unable to open admin file <default> No such file or directory+
    *#/usr/sbin/pkgadd -d /cdrom/Solaris_10/Product SUNWcsl*
pkg ERROR: unable to open admin file <default> No such file or directory+
PS: When you start the system by the command 'boot cdrom -sw " I'm mount the harddisk with the command
    +*# mount -F ufs / dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0 /a*+
I need help because I do not want to have to reinstall the operating system.
    Tks!

    Hi.
Main problem, that some library depend from other. When patch applyed, it change some sets of library. CDROM have old version of the library.
    What you can do :
    1. Boot from cdrom and mount disk as you already write.
    2. Check what size was libnsl.so.1
    grep libnsl.so.1 /a/var/sadm/install/contents
You not write full path of deleted lib.
Some of path - real file, but other - just link and you can recreate it.

For found what patch can change this lib:
    grep libnsl /a/var/sadm/patch/*/R*
Select what patch was applied last. ( Check date of /a/var/sadm/patch/* )
Download this patch again. Unpack and try copy file.
In case using pkgrm/pkgadd you need specify root dir like :
    /usr/sbin/pkgadd -d /cdrom/Solaris_10/Product -R /a SUNWcsl

I can't install software from the second CD of intel software. When I use WebStart, it says that
/usr/bin/bzcat is not present so pkgadd can't work and if I try to install with Admintool, it cannot find
    /usr/bin/bzcat too.
    Any suggestion ???

Just to let you know you are not allone: We have a similar problem here. I have no idea what they mean with the file: itmpt-x86-XXX-itu.dd
Its just not there. Did you solve the problem in the meanwhile?
    Greetings Andreas

  • Strange module problem, modules not found

    Hi!
Not sure if thois is the correct area but anyway...
I have a really strange problem loading modules:
Sometimes when booting it can't find my modules, in most cases (but not all) I have done a unclean shutdown so fsck needs to run (but it have happened at other times as well).
And even if fsck pass without any problem I still have the same problem, even when trying to reboot a second time (clean shutdown).
The only fix is to re-install kernel26 (and hope I still have it in the cache).
    Possibly related problem:
I can only manually load modules by giving the whole path.
    Am I missign some setting?
Some other setup problem anyone can think of?
Any tip on what I need to check?
    BR,
    Mårten

  • Problem with SUNWmconr Package

I'm having problems with installing the Sun Java Web Console. The pkgadd fails (see below error). It looks like the package is missing the SUNWmconr/reloc/lib/svc/method/svc-webconsole file. So I checked my Solaris_10-06.06 CD to verify that the package wasn't corrupt on my JumpStart server and the package on the CD is missing this file as well. I searched online for SUNWmconr errors related to svc-webconsole and didn't find much; most people remove this package for security reasons.
Is this a know problem or am I missing something obvious here?
    Thanks,
    Cody

This message often relates to a problem with Apple software update.
Go to Add remove programs and find Apple Software update. Try repairing it.
    Select Change>>repair.
    That probably will not work
Then try uninstalling any instance you find of Apple Software update. That probably will not work either.
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program.

To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install Cleanup
Remove any instance you find of Apple software update with the cleanup utility.
Download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer and save it on your desktop.

  • Major installation problems

I am running into some serious headache installing the Java ES on a Solaris 10 / x86 platform. However I was having the same difficulties on a Sparc Platform and I am trying to install it in a non-global zone. I did try to install it in a global zone before and I seemed to have resulted in the same errors.
    1) Following through the installation, when it is asked if I want to configure selected products now or later, I do it now, but I can NEVER get them configured. When it is asked to enter my IP address, it keeps saying that it is invalid. I thought perhaps it could be that it doesn't want a private IP, but even if I type in any kind of IP address whatsoever it gives me an invalid IP message and I cannot go further. I decided to try to see if I could just configure them manually aferwards, so I would skip this.
    2) Through the installation (I am ultimately seeking to install the messaging system platform, calendar, to support Outlook. etc) it goes through and then fails. The error logs produce the same errors over and over again, it is looking for files which should be in the ISO image I downloaded but they aren't there. I'll copy and paste a few of the files here and hopefully someone has seen something similiar.
I mounted both ISO images but needed to copy the entire content to the disk because it was originally prompting me to insert the CD over and over and over so copying it let me pass that problem.
Here are lines the log file produced:

and just thousands more like this. I looked into sman1 and it's empty. other folders share the same characteristics, the installer is looking for files in a directory that has absolutely nothing :S
Any help would be really appreciated, I am trying to evaluate this system to implement our messaging platform but I can't even get it installed!
    Thanks
    Nick!

I managed to fix the problem. turns out the zone wasn't configured as a "whole root non global-zone" and it was giving all these issues. For the ip address issue I just issued a 'configure later" and I managed to configure each services individually.
    thanks!

  • Installing multiple packages with pkgadd...

    hi there,
sorry about this silly question but I am having some problem to install multiple packages with pkgadd. Basically I have packages with this form "apache-2.4.3-sol10-sparc-local" and not with pkg extension. So, checking the man page pkgadd -d /packages/dire/ all suppose to work, but it doesn't.
I am sure I am doing a very simple error but couldn't figure out.
It will be appreciated if someone help.
    Cheers!

    Hi.
pkgadd -d - used for install many packeges from one location.
    location may be:
    1. Directory
    2. Separete file.
You have many files that contetns packages. You can't do it with one commands, or you should previos converst all packages to one file ( man pkgtrans).
    You should use command:
    pkgadd -d <path>/apache-2.4.3-sol10-sparc-local all
    pkgadd -d <path>/gmp-4.2.1-sol10-sparc-local all
    pkgadd -d <path>/libtool-2.4.2-sol10-sparc-local all
    pkgadd -d <path>/ readline-6.2-sol10-sparc-local all
    pkgadd -d <path>/coreutils-8.19-sol10-sparc-local all
    pkgadd -d <path>/libgcc-3.4.6-sol10-sparc-local all
    pkgadd -d <path>/openldap-2.4.32-sol10-sparc-local all
    pkgadd -d <path>/sasl-2.1.25-sol10-sparc-local all
    pkgadd -d <path>/db-4.7.25.NC-sol10-sparc-local all
    pkgadd -d <path>/libiconv-1.14-sol10-sparc-local all
    pkgadd -d <path>/openssl-1.0.1c-sol10-sparc-local all
    pkgadd -d <path>/sqlite-3.7.13-sol10-sparc-local all
    pkgadd -d <path>/expat-2.0.1-sol10-sparc-local all
    pkgadd -d <path>/libintl-3.4.0-sol10-sparc-local all
    pkgadd -d <path>/pcre-8.31-sol10-sparc-local all
    pkgadd -d <path>/zlib-1.2.7-sol10-sparc-local all
