Placeholder Images in Templates?
If you go to a section template and place a video (media object) there, and then apply it to all of the layouts that use said template... you can go to the individual sections and drag media into those spots. However, if you place a "placeholder" image into a template and apply it, it renders that placeholder into your sections. The idea I had was to have on the first page of every section a photo I could drop in (after the writing is done) for visual interest, etc.
Not sure why Apple did not add a Photo object to the Widgets menu but it creates a limitation in situations like this. We have the Gallery but what if you only want a single photo? You still have to view the arrows / gallery nav buttons regardless. Am I missing something obvious?
I suppose I could put a border there and drop the photo over it in the section layouts but that seems pretty clunky. Maybe I'll try an image or two with transitions via Keynote widget so there's no buttons. At least then it will be automated and clean looking.
Possibly. I've not tried the Craft template. It's been a while now since I generated the file I'm working on but I think I'm using a variation of Contemporary. But yes when I look at that section page it seems to have a photo placeholder. Where is that widget (for general use) or is there one? Guessing not based on my searchings for it the last few weeks.
So are you saying I could copy that section, drop it into the other document and then pluck the image placeholder out of there and place it in the right section?
(No Dice... I just tried it and that image gets rendered too upon being applied.)

Can't select placeholder image in template
Hello there,
perhaps I'm too stupid and the solution is such easy. But today I wanted to use the template "You're invisited" to style an invitation for a friends birthday party. In iWork '06, I could select the images on the left side on page 1 and 2 to insert an own image. Now, in iWork '08 it seems to be a text box including image and text - I can't select the image only. Consulting the manual did not solve this, so I'm looking here for help. Thanks a lot in advance
KlausI can't duplicate the problem you're having. When I open that "festive invitation" template in Pages 3 I can select either the picture or the text box, they are not grouped or otherwise linked. The picture is a "media" placeholder, same thing as image placeholder in Pages 1 & 2. This one does have a mask applied, but none of that prevented me from inserting a picture of my own choosing.

Hi there!
Me again with another Pages template problem.
One of my templates (named "Einladung" - "invitation" in English) has an image which is marked as placeholder when I move the mouse pointer over it. However, when I try to replace the image with another picture from the media window, the image is not replaced. It just drops the new image over the old one. Size and form of the (new) image is not adjusted either.
Is this a bug in the template - or can it be fixed - maybe somewhere in preferences?
In the other templates the placeholders are working OK.OK now I have found the problem. The text and the placeholder with the image are Grouped. That is why I at first couldn't see that is was a placeholder there. While being grouped the placeholder image can't be changed. You need to ungrouped the objects.
Select the image/text object > go to menu Format > Arrange > Ungroup
Place your image in the placeholder and group it with the text if you need it. The text can be changed it seems even when the objects are grouped. -
Problem with placeholder images
Hi,
I am building an iBooks Author template from the scratch. I am adding placeholder images all around one of my layouts, but when adding new sections based upon this layout, dragging real images to placeholder ones does not work so long. The placeholder image frame even does not highlight.
When I mouse over the placeholder image there is a message saying "This is a placeholder image, etc." but all efforts to drag any JPEG, PNG... image over it were successful. I have no idea what is happening. Placeholders are not blocked in my layouts, etc. etc.
Any suggestion?
ThanksThanks for the reply vinnyvg but cannot replicate what you are saying. What do you mean by being editable for images? Do you mean just unlocked or is there something else?
Anyway here are the steps I took to try it out, was working on sections layouts so went on the layout panel and rightclicked a section layout to duplicate it. Then cleaned it compleately and placed into it my design elements. On those I needed as placeolders I kept them unloacked and checked the Format Advance make media placeholder option command + alt + control + I, then i brought it to the top and saved the layout and tried to applay it to a section in the book.
The layout gets applied and the image if pointed with the mouse says "this is a placeholder..." but when I try to grab a nuew one and drop in it, it does not get focus and I get a new image inserted into the page.
What am I doing worng? -
How can I add .PNG images to templates without getting a white background?
I'm having problems with a image field when I add a .png image which doesnt have a background it is showing up with a white background. Is it possible to use images in templates so you can overlay them on something else?
Hi, You can do this but only with a PNG with a palette of 256 colors (maybe GIF as well) so doesn't get a lot of use, good enough for image buttons and the like, but might be ok for your image as it does not have that many colors. Otherwise radzmar's suggestion would be the better approach.
This is the link I was tring to find (in your previous thread) that tells how to do it using GIMP (a free image editor), http://smartforms.business.gov.au/DeveloperResources/Pages/HintsandTips.aspx , but the one I have uploaded here comes from photoshop (in photoshop it is called an indexed png).

Is it possible to change the theme placeholder images in iPhoto '11
Can the placeholder images be replaced or removed in iPhoto 11 card projects? Simply, one of the images reminds my wife and I of a very distressing event in our lives. We'd prefer to not see it every time we make a greeting card when we're trying to celebrate something more joyful. Obviously, there's nothing wrong with the images per se. This is very personal.
iPhoto.app in your Applications Folder. Right Click on it and select 'Show Package Contents'
It opens a Finder window at Contents. Inside that Folder find Resources. Inside there find the bothersome image and replace it with one that’s the same name, size and format.
Back up first.

Insert Image gets Placeholder Image
Whenever I insert an image (either with the menu or the Insert bar icon), I get the placeholder image instead.
I should be getting a file browser dialog, but I only get a 32x32 gray box. Maybe there is a preference somewhere that has changed?
I am using Dreamweaver CS 5.5, on a Mac with os 10.8.2
markAre you clicking on 'Insert > Image Objects > Image Placeholder'? or 'Insert > Image'?
Image placeholder will, by default, give you a 32px square placeholder.

Image in template background do not appear in browser
Hello all
I run a site ( http://ntp.neuroscience.wisc.edu/ ) that uses templates for backgrounds/spry menus for its pages. We currently use three templates to display backgrounds across the site and up until a few days ago everything displayed fine, until suddenly the main banner picture (bannerIndex.jpg) dissapeared from across all our pages, both in IE8 and Firefox 3.5. It used to display above the red spry menu tabs on the top of the whitespace. Check the index.dwt file attached to see where exactly. To my memory I didnt edit any of the templates or delete any of the image files, much less reupload the templates or download them from the remote server. I went back and reinserted all the pics into the templates, made sure they were attached to their right pages, and uploaded everything, but to no avail. the only major edit to the site I can remember that might have had an effect was that I rearraged some files on the local/remote server, but the shifts were within the same directory level and the files involved were not templates. I shifted everything back to their original order and still the problem persists. I'm attaching the code below (site first follow by the template which attaches to it) as it shows in the dreamweaver code editor (i'm using dreamweaver cs3) and I'll also attached the actual html and dwt files. again, the picture that does not show is bannerIndex.jpg and it should be above the spry menu tabs.

How do I create a placeholder image in a custom layout?
I have a custom layout defined for a photo book, and I want to have a box on the layout where I can easily drag/drop a photo from Finder onto each page.
On my layout, I created a shape and dropped an image into it. This results in the following tooltip on both the layout editor and on the pages using the layout:
"This image is a placeholder. Drag a new media file here to replace it."
And with that shape selected, if I go to Format, Advanced, the option "Define as Media Placeholder" *is* checked.
But when I go to a page using this new layout and attempt to drag a JPEG file on top of the placeholder, a new photo is created on the page rather than replacing the placeholder. This means I have to go set the wrapping, size, placement, etc. of the photo with each page.
What am I doing wrong?Good question. Just figured it out myself. I'm going to quote from http://www.davidebarranca.com/2012/04/ibooks-author-fullscreen-images/:
In order to successfully transform a picture/movie within a master page into a placeholder you must select it, then 1) Format – Advanced – Define as Media Placeholder. 2) From the Inspector panel, select the Layout inspector and below Layout Object select the Editable on pages using this layout checkbox. If you forget this checkbox, the placeholder won’t work. -
How to add metadata to multiple images via Template
Hi
Wonder if anyone can tell me if it is possible to add Metadata to multiple images using a metadata template. I see that I can add to multiple using Organizer but with that you have to type in the metadata. In Elements 11 I can do it using a template but only for 1 image at a time.
Is there a way to do this in Elements 11 or Organizer?
Thanks in Advance.In the File properties dialog of the editor you can enter your values in the metadata tabs, then use the 'Import' button on the bottom of the dialog, switch to 'Export' and that exports your values as a template.
As far as I know, this is to be used in the advanced dialog of the downloader : you can use your templates at import time for a batch of images.
Otherwise, when you have selected many images in the organizer, you can click on the 'Add IPTC data' button in the tags panel on the right side : you have to enter the data which will be applied to all the selected files. -
Facelet working good in IE but not in mozilla for images in template.

I am experiencing this unusual scenario that for a template layout.xhtml that i declare I can see the background image correctly correctly in IE but not if firefox.
Any suggestions what i should do in order to run.
I am running a jboss server and a jboss IDE.

Image in Template not appearing
I haven't touched this template and only visit the site to
update the editable areas. A week ago, links were not appearing at
the top and now nothing is appearing:

Also, I can see the graphics I put in the editable region on
three different computers, but someone else cannot. There is no
mention on her's of a picture needing to be there either. They just

One of the things that has always bothered me about Apex templates is that they use IMG tags (extensively!) instead of pure CSS. This makes it harder to switch look-n-feel by switching stylesheets.
Take the example of the Reports Region template in Theme 10 (the theme I use the most)

Yes, it is a lot of work and there is really no real advantage to be gained unless all the templates in all the themes are made IMG-free but I think the benefit is worth it as we start to build more dynamic look-n-feel applications with changeable "skins" as we talk about recently on other threads.

Ah but IE even IE 7 does not correctly cache background-images so what you end up with is a page in IE that has to load the images every time which increase page weight, slows page loading and puts a bad flicker on the screen. You can even see this in some of the themes and the builder on slower connections in IE.

Multiple Images Import template?
Hi folks,
First of all, I cannot find the link to product import templates anywhere after an hour's search. That is just wrong!
Secondly, as I remember seeing one, it doesn't offer multiple views of a single product. But i've seen stores with multiple product views.
Can someone direct me to the proper database templates and import files for adding multiple images to a product?
TIAHi Liam, So are the poplets connected to the product database and is there a way to bulk upload them with the csv file? Or does this have to be done individually by hand? If there isn't a place for the additional items in the csv file, then it seems they aren't directly linked in the product database?
I think I found the template before when I was doing research for the BC product in the product information area and not in the actual product import area. I couldn't see the download template until after I pressed product import. That was very deep in the system, with multiple clicks to get there.
