  • Upgrading from TCS 2.0 to TCS v. 2.5 - Know What You're Getting!!!

I'm not the type to normally write in forums but I just went through 2 days of customer service and technical support hell and thought I would share the experience with the sole motivation being to spare fellow TCS users the aggravation and make you aware of a possible disconnect between sales and technical support - know what you`re getting!!
Yesterday I purchased the upgrade from TCS 2.0 to TCS 2.5 from the Adobe online store as an electronic download. After receiving a confirmation email I logged into my Adobe account and noted that the download page contained 2 serial numbers, one for Photoshop CS5, one for Captivate 5 and then a zip folder for UPDATES only to Framemaker and Robohelp and also 2 language packs for text-to-speech for Captivate 5. Obviously I was missing links to Framemaker, Robohelp and Acrobat.
The goal of my purchase was to procure an additional licence in order to install TCS v 2.5 on 2 additional computers so, I had a sick feeling that I may have misunderstood what was offered in the upgrade; I then had the following conversation with Adobe`s Chat Live Now (excerpted from transcript):
Me: Hi. I just  purchased the upgrade from TCS 2.0 to TCS 2.5. My expectation was that  this contained all programs within the suite yet on my downloads the  only programs that are listed are Photoshop CS5 and Captivate 5. Does  this upgrade package not include the ability to install Framemaker,  Robohelp and Acrobat. I purchased on the assumption that the upgrade  would constitute an additional licence for these products as well. Was I  wrong?
Perkins: ...TCS includes all programs, you need to select those programs while installing.
Me: Okay, I'm just  downloading it now so I will confirm that it does, in fact, include all  of the programs. So just to clarify, my original understanding was  correct and the upgrade provides me with 2 additional licences for TCS?
Perkins: Yes. You can install 1 copy of the software on 2 computers with same Operating System.
Okay - fair enough, I then re-visited the Adobe Technical Communication Suite 2.5 web page under Upgrade--Reasons to Upgrade where it states:
``Work with full new versions of Adobe professional tools for technical  communicators and help authors, including Adobe® FrameMaker® 9, Adobe  RoboHelp® 8, Adobe® Captivate® 5, Adobe Acrobat® 9 Pro Extended, and  Adobe Photoshop® CS5 software``.
Now to me, FULL means full versions. I subsequently entered customer service hell and spent an hour and a half on the phone being transferred through 5 different people, none of whom were familiar with the contents of the Technical Communication Suite. It took forever jsut to get them to understand that I weas upgrading from TCS version 2.0 and NOT trying to upgrade from Photoshop CS4 and Captivate 4 directly. Eventually my question as to whether I was entitled to an additional licence for Framemaker, Robohelp and Acrobat Pro Extended was elevated to Tier 2 and I was told I would be contacted by Adobe. Today I received a voicemail and email stating that I should install Framemaker, Robohelp and Acrobat Pro Extended from my original TCS v 2.0 installer. I subsequently did so (successfully) and then installed Captivate 5 without issue.
The next challenge arose with Photshop CS5 - the serial number, according to the installer, was invalid. Back to customer support who referred me to technical support - turns out the download link on my Adobe account download page was for a Chinese language-only version of Photoshop Extended which doesn`t even come with TCS 2.5! So, another 90 minutes on the phone throughout which I keep seeking clarification, does TCS 2.5 grant me an additional licence for Framemaker 9, Robohelp 8 and Acrobat 9 Pro Extended...
Technical Service states they can send me a physical disc with installers for Photoshop CS 5 and Captivate 5 and then CONFIRMED that I am NOT entitled to any additional licences for Framemaker, Robohelp or Acrobat, I am ONLY entitled to the 2 installs under the original TCS version 2 licence. This of course runs completely contrary to the literature on the website and my conversation with Live Chat Now. In disgust, I have submitted a refund request.
    Just for kicks I decided to again try to clarify with Live Chat Now what products that I, as a customer, receive a licence for by purchasing the upgrade to TCS v 2.5 and have pasted the transcript of that chat as follows;
Me: Can you please  confirm for me whether upgrading from the Adobe Technical Communication  Suite version 2.0 to version 2.5 entitles me to 1 additional licence for ALL of the applications that constitute the Technical Communication  Suite (i.e. Robohelp, Acrobat, Framemaker, Captivate, Photoshop and  Presenter) OR does it merely entitle me to 1 licence to install  Photoshop CS5 and Captivate 5 in conjunction with my pre-existing TCS  2.0 installation?
Morph: Give me a minute, I’m reading it.
    Me: sure
Morph: When you place the order for upgrade, you will get new products.
Me: I understand that I will get Photoshop CS5 and Captivate 5 BUT do I also get Framemaker, Acrobat and Robohelp?
Morph: Adpbe eLearning  Suite  2 includes: Adobe Captivate 5, Flash Professional CS5,  Dreamweaver CS5, Photoshop CS5 Extended, Acrobat 9 Pro, Adobe Presenter 7  (Available only on Windows platform), Soundbooth CS5.
    Morph: No.
    Morph: Only Acrobat is Included.
Me: I am not talking about the e-Learning Suite, I am referring to the Technical Communication Suite
Morph: Oh okay, got you, first tell me, using which product you will be upgrading this from?
    Me: TCS 2.0
    Morph: Okay.
Morph: Yes, if you do this  upgrade you will get Adobe FrameMaker 9, RoboHelp 8, Adobe Captivate 5,  Photoshop CS5, Acrobat 9 Pro Extended, and Adobe Presenter 7
Me: so this will  entitle me to 1 additional licence for all of these applications, over  and above the licence I already own for the TCS version 2?
Morph: Correct, however,  you may also be installing the software (Upgrade version) directly  without uninstalling the previous version of the software.
Me: So just to  clarify, if I purchase the upgrade and decide that I want to install on a  completely different machine than the two computers that already have  TCS version 2.0 installed (as entitled by my licence) then I will be  able to, in effect, install the TCS 2.5 onto two completely different  computers (as per the Adobe licence) so that, at the end of the day, I  can actually have FOUR computers with TCS installed by virtue of the 2  licences that I should have - one from TCS version 2.0 and 1 licence  from TCS version 2.5É
Morph: Purchasing the  “upgrade” version product is nothing but a “full” version, but if you do  not have the serial key for older version you can’t Install the  upgrade, but for full version you do no need previous version serial  number.
    Morph: Correct.
Morph: You can simply purchase your upgrade and verify that you have the qualifying older product during the installation process.
Morph: If it's installed on  your computer, the Adobe installer will either find it or prompt you to  help it find the software for verification.
Morph: If it's not installed, you will be prompted to enter the qualifying serial number for the older version.
Me: Is the download file one individual installer or an installer for each application
Morph: It is one Indiviidual Installer.
Morph: When you download it will automatically Install every program in the Suite one-by-one.
Me: Okay, the reason I  have been asking is that yesterday I made this purchase yet my download  page had links only to Photoshop (a Chinese language only version of  Photoshop Extended which does not come with the Suite) and Captivate.  There was no link whatsoever for the other applications. I went through  customer service and technical support and no one, and I mean no one,  could answer the questions I`ve asked you. According to customer support  and the serialization team, the upgrade to v. 2.5 DOES NOT include  Framemaker, Robohelp and Acrobat. As a consumer I have absolutely no  idea what is right and what is wrong. How am I supposed to make an  informed purchase...
Morph: did you check on the link and confirmed that it does not Include the upgrade to version 2.5?
Me: Sorry - not clear what you mean, my receipt from the Adobe store was for TCS v 2.5
Morph: Like I said  upgrade for the Technical communicate suite Includes Adobe FrameMaker 9,  RoboHelp 8, Adobe Captivate 5, Photoshop CS5, Acrobat 9 Pro Extended,  and Adobe Presenter 7, and you should be getting all as a single  download link, seems like you are not able to make it with the link to  Install Individual products altogether, so you need to contact our  Customer Service at 800-833-6687. for the
    Morph: precise Info.
Me: I went through  that route yesterday and today and they told me that the upgrade DOES  NOT include the other applications. As well, I noticed that the download  file size for the upgrade is 1 half the size of the full version -  obviously something is missing
Me: The information you are telling me is the precise opposite of what they told me. How do I, as a consumer, get the proper answer
Morph: upgrade do Includes the product I have mentioned above.
Me: I know you`re  trying to assist but I`m flummoxed - my case was escalated to Tier 2 and  they told me it doesn`t include the other applications
Morph: up to some  extent i can help being a sales team member, ant only customer people  generate the links and have access to customer account to check what  really went wrong.
Me: Is it possible to  have a senior sales rep contact me - this matter of a `simple` upgrade  has consumed a ridiculous amount of time. As far as my issue - Adobe  tells me nothing was wrong and that the upgrade is only a licence for  Photoshop and Captivate
    Morph: Okay,Just a minute.
Morph: You can contact our Sales Team on 1-800-585-0774.
So, at the end of the day, sales tells me that upgrading to v 2.5 grants me an additional licence for ALL applications in the suite whereas Adobe`s own technical support has told me this is not true. Again I ask, how does a consumer make an informed choice...
I`ve been buying Adobe software for both Mac and PC since Creative Suite 2 came out and this has absolutely been the most frustrating experience I have ever had. I get great use out of the Techncial Communication Suite and thought it would be nice to have an additional licence but at the end of the day I have decided it certainly was not worth the hassle - particularly when Adobe itself can`t figure out what I am entitled to!!
I am a fan of Adobe`s software but honestly, is business that good that you can treat your customers this way????

Hi. I suspect that may indeed be the case. If so, that's fine but nowhere is it clearly articulated what a user gains by purchasing the upgrade (and I am specifically referring to an upgrade from TCS version 2 to v 2.5) and certainly sales (as evidenced by my chat transcripts where I believe I asked quite specific questions) are advising customers that you will, in fact, gain an additional licence to ALL components of the TCS by upgrading.
If it had been clearly articulated on the Adobe TCS 2.5 website that an upgrade from TCS version 2 only entitles users to install Photoshop CS5 and Captivate 5 in conjunction with the existing installation of the other components of TCS 2 - or - better yet, stated clearly that the upgrade from version 2 to 2.5 does not entitle the end-user to an additional licence for Acrobat Pro Extended, Framemaker, Robohelp and Presenter 7 then that would allow me, as a consumer, to make an informed decision whether to make the purchase. Since that is not the case, and Adobe's sales representatives are clearly advising customers otherwise, I felt compelled to post this so others don't waste their time as I did trying to sort it out. At one point I was advised that I should use my existing TCS version 2 installer to install Acrobat etc but received contradictory answers as to whether I was entitled to an additional licence for these products. At no time during my first hour and forty-five minute conversation, my second ninety minute conversation nor my third, and last, twenty minute conversation was anyone able to clearly articulate what you have stated - and - that still leaves the fact that the text on Adobe's website is misleading.
BTW - why I received a download link from Adobe for a Chinese-language-only version of Photoshop CS5 Extended is still a mystery
At the end of the day, I think the TCS (while not perfect) is a very useful tool and I will, in all probability, upgrade to the full version of TCS 3 which will, no doubt, constitute a full licence for all components of the suite. I am not attributing malicious intent to the Adobe employees, but I am saying that they themselves seem confused about what is included in the upgrade and provided contradictory statements. If Adobe employees can't provide a straight, cut-to-the-chase answer about what seems a straightforward question then that certainly creates unnecessary confusion for the customer.

  • "Watch what you want, when you want". Do me a favo...

First time on the forum and oh how I wish I'd done my research on here before ordering a BT package. I wouldn't have touched this service with a barge pole if I knew then what I know now.
From day 1 "you dont have to be at home to receive your equipment,we'll leave it in a safe place for you". Yep,very safe. It was in the local sorting office. So a 2 hour wait for that to open and a 6 mile round trip to collect.
So now we're up and running except no On Demand (the reason I opted for Bt).OK online help says it can take up to ten days to "stabilise",but meantime just pay for it and shut up. If I had switched electricty supplier would I be expected to pay for ten days before I could switch a light on? I think not.
Four days in I decide to call technical help who go through all the checks I have previously done, no joy there. Operator thinks I could benefit from a bb accelerator contradicting the online help as I have no extensions and my hub is straight in to the master socket. She thinks maybe its best I wait ten days.
Second operator thinks maybe I should wait ten days. He finally  gets a grip of what I'm telling him and organises an engineer.
Four days later an engineer appears. He says only eight days have passed maybe its best I wait......you get my drift?
Now we're talking. He has a brand new hub and V+ box. This should do the trick he says. Hmmm, it did for all of 5 minutes. Oh maybe its not the magic ten days after all he thinks, its an external fault and he's not that type of engineer but he'll do his best and pass on the message, hopefully I should hear something within 48 hours.
Has anyone on the forum managed to cancel without penalty? How can it possibly be legal for BT to take money from me and provide nothing?

Two hours later. These are the results. Alas no change in the On demand.

  • 1.01 update = please share what you find is fixed / not =

the bullets apple posted as the update are likely just some of the fixes.
please share your personal experiences of what you have found is
    - fixed
    - new/improved
    - just enhanced performance
and of course what is not fixed.
keep it simple please so others can benefit at a glance
    thanks in advance!
    g5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Improved:
    Keyword searches are faster.
Query HUD keyword list comes up much faster.
Projects with keywords come up faster than 1.0.
    Not fixed:
Entire library searches are still not fast enough if you have keywords in place.
Selecting the library line (in this case imported iPhoto library with 8000+ pics + some versions) takes too long (15-20 secs at least, apparently the keyword list is updated for the entire library and that takes too long).
Keyword list seems to be updated each time you "touch" query HUD and this can take the long time (15-20 secs) if you happen to have the scope of entire library. Within single project (for example 100-200 pics and anything less) this wait is not visible.
Good upgrade, using the tool and waiting for the next upgrade.

  • Bought an iPod nano for use in an external source to the unit of the BMW. It works, but don't remember the place when you turn off the power and every time begins to play the playlist first.

Bought an iPod nano for use in an external source to the unit of the BMW. It works, but don't remember the place when you turn off the power and every time begins to play the playlist first.

    Thanks iPod Whisperer--
I do realize that the nano will resume where I left off in my audiobook if I reload the file that was last playing.
What I was hoping is that the 6g nano would work like my previous iPods and default to the last file played the next time played after Iused sleep mode instead of going to some random song on the iPod.
Since I usually have a lot of audiobooks on my iPod--and most of those have 10-15 files in them, it's a pain to have to navigate to the correct file (and try to remember which of the 10-15 files I was last playing). On all my other iPods I could simply hit play and it would start up in the audiobook right where it left off.
Note--this only happens if I use the sleep timer to turn off the iPod. If I pause the book myself, when I turn the iPod back on it'll "remember" what file it was playing.
    Hope this makes sense.

In my opinion BT seems to be focusing its attentions on things which the Business thinks the customer wants and not thinking of the simple things which customers expect from a well run National business.
Things such as Good, UK based customer service. Being able to speak to a Human being that can understand the nature of your enquiry. But BT seem so focussed on an "efficiant" workforce (i.e cheap) that it focusses on Foreign Call centres, automating Voicemail phone service for payments and a "Chat" system which gets the customer no where and frankly, does not seem as trustworthy as one might imagine, I would much rather talk to a human being.
Things such as the ability to pay your bill on the day you want, at the amount the bill actually is, Rather than a system which chooses the most inconvieniant date possible (i.e 10 days after the bill is made - which means that if my bill is on the 5th I pay on the 15th, which is useless if I get paid on the 1st), Or a recurring payment which automatically changes itself after 6 months to ridiculous amounts.
Why is it BT struggles to do things which all other providers offer as standard. I could phone Sky right now and speak to a Human being who could sort the nature of the problem in 15 minutes, and trust me I would if I had coverage in the area I live!!!
Instead of focusing on trivial things which a quater of your market will want, focus on simple customer service areas which your whole market is screaming for, and frankly, would improve the business as a whole. Becasue, simply, at the minute the whole system you have in place is a disgrace.

  • Recording what you hear on the comp

Well I got cubase but everytime i export the song the sounds are all different and ultimately the song sounds completely different then it was on the program, and even if i figured out how to fix this, i still have the problem of converting it a different format. So, instead of doing the two i was hoping to see if there is any way i can record what i hear on the computer. I tried and i didnt find a way and hoping someone here could guide me... i got an Audigy 2 Value and Windows XP if that is of any help. It be very appreciated if someone could help me. Thanks

which version of cubase are you using? as i dont use the home pakages im not 100% on if evertythings the same but im sure this will be! what export function are you using? and what is the input channel selected recording in the computers audio devices! if you select the input as waves that might help the "what you hear" recording outside of cubase.
use said you are using only midi files i agree with jutapa about using the vsti's if you read the cubase manual you will find that it mentions something about not being about to mixdown outside midi functions with out syncing the device cubase or something along those lines!
i didn't pay all that much attention as it's never been a problem for me!
here the part of the manual on mix down
The Export Audio Mixdown function in Cubase SX/SL allows you to mix
down audio from the program to a file on your hard disk, in a number of
formats. You can choose to mix down one of the following:
    An output bus.
For example, if you have set up a stereo mix with tracks routed to a stereo output bus,
mixing down that output bus would give you a mixdown file containing the whole mix.
Similarly, you can mix down a complete surround bus, either to a single multi-channel
file (interleaved) or to one file per surround channel (split).
The channel for an audio track (Cubase SX only).
This will mix down the channel for the track, complete with insert effects, EQ, etc. This
can be useful for turning a number of events into a single file, or if you are using CPUintensive
insert effects – by exporting the track and re-importing it into the project you
can turn off the insert effect, saving processor power.
Any kind of audio channel in the mixer (Cubase SX only).
This includes VST Instrument channels, effect return channels (FX Channel tracks),
Group channels and ReWire channels. There are many uses for this – for example, you
can mix down an effect return track or turn individual ReWire channels into audio files.
    Notes
The Export Audio Mixdown function mixes down the area between the
    left and right locator.
When you mix down, you get what you hear – mutes, mixer settings
and insert effects are taken into account.
Note though that you will only include the sound of the bus or channel you select for
    mixdown.
here's the bit okay seems you can't record midi in the mix down at all you have to record it like a normal audio file first. that's just with the record button on to a normal audio track you'll have to figure out how to get your midi to feed through into cubase
the way i do it is only leave the information out to the midi device plugged in and then plug the analog out put of the device into the input that cubase will record this will make sure cubase records the file as an audio file with out getting a cross over of the midi information being sent(i hope that makes sence some times i can make a muddle of explaining things). there are other ways to do this but this ways nice and simple and lazy! and works just aswell as any other.
MIDI tracks are not included in the mixdown!
To make a complete mixdown containing both MIDI and audio, you first need to record
all your MIDI music to audio tracks (by connecting the outputs of your MIDI instruments
to your audio inputs and recording, as with any other sound source).
With Cubase SX, you can also export selected tracks – this is a different
function that doesn’t create an audio mixdown.
Rather, this is a way to transfer complete tracks (including clips and events) from one
    project to another
i left everything else in just in case you wanted to check through it!
    1. Set up the left and right locator to encompass the area that you want
    to mix down.
    2. Set up your tracks, so that they play back the way you want.
This includes muting unwanted tracks or parts, making manual mixer settings and/or
activating the R (Read) automation buttons for some or all mixer channels.
    3. Pull down the File menu and select “Audio Mixdown…” from the
    Export submenu.
The Export Audio Mixdown dialog appears.
The upper half of this dialog is a standard file dialog, while the lower
half contains file format options and settings for the mixdown function.
Note that the available settings and options differ depending on the
    selected file format
Select the bus or channel you want to mix down with the Outputs popup
menu (with Cubase SL you can only export busses, not channels).
This lists all output busses and channels in the active project.
    5. Select the channel configuration for the mixdown file with the
    Channels pop-up menu.
Typically you would select the same channel configuration as the bus or channel you’re
mixing down, but it’s also possible to e.g. mix down a stereo bus to a mono file. In this
case a warning will appear, asking if that’s what you want to do.
Here you will also find the “N. Chan. Split” and “N. Chan. Interleaved” options – these
allow you to create a surround mixdown file, either as one mono file per surround channel
    – split – or as a single multi-channel file – interleaved (Cubase SX only).
The Channels pop-up and the “N. Chan” options are only available when
an uncompressed file format is selected (AIFF, uncompressed Wave,
    Wave64 or Broadcast Wave).
For the other formats you can select stereo or mono using controls that are specific to
each format. When mixing down to 5.1 Surround, you also have the option to mix down
to Windows Media Audio Pro (Windows and Cubase SX only) – see page 670.
    6. Select a file format with the File type pop-up menu.
    7. Make additional settings for the file to be created.
This includes selecting sample rate, resolution, quality, etc. The available options depend
on the selected file format – see page 660.
    8. If you want to automatically import the resulting audio file back into
Cubase SX/SL, activate the “Import to” checkboxes.
If you activate the “Pool” checkbox, a clip referring to the file will appear in the Pool.
Activating the “Audio Track” checkbox as well will create an audio event that plays the
clip, and place it on a new audio track, starting at the left locator.
The Import options are only available if you have selected an uncompressed
file format (AIFF, uncompressed Wave, Wave64 or Broadcast
    Wave files).
    9. If you activate Real-Time Export, the export will happen in real time, i.e.
the process will take the same time as regular playback.
Some VST plug-ins require this to have time to update correctly during the mixdown –
consult the plug-in manufacturers if uncertain.
    CUBASE SX/SL
    Export Audio Mixdown 27 – 659
When Real-Time Export is activated, the exported audio will be played
    back on the Audition bus.
The fader below the Real-Time Export checkbox allows you to adjust the volume of the
    Audition bus.
10.If you activate Update Display, the meters will be updated during the
    export process.
This allows you to check for clipping, for example.
11.Select a folder and a name for the audio file to be created.
With some file formats you can create split stereo files (see page 661).
This will create two files (one for each side) with the same name, but
with the letter “L” appended for the left channel file and “R” for the right
    channel file.
In the same way, split multi-channel (surround) files (Cubase SX only) will have the
same name followed by a number indicating the surround channel.
12.Click Save.Depending on the file format, an additional dialog may appear. For example, when exporting to MP3 format a dialog appears where you can add infoabout the song title, artist, etc. Make the desired
settings and click OK to proceed.A dialog with a progress bar is displayed while the audio file is created. If you change your mind during the file creation, you can click theAbort button to abort the operation.if you
have activated any of the “Import to” options, the file will be importedback into the project. When playing back the re-imported file in Cubase SX/SL, remember to mute the originaltracks so that you really hear the true result.
    hope thast helps

  • FAQ: Are there rules for what you can access or target with interactions?

Here are rules for what you can access/target for interactions:
    1. You can always target any page/state of your main application
    2. You can target the current component (the one you are editing in Edit-In-Place)
    3. You can target any component instances in the current component. If your current component contains 2 custom components, then you can target either.
Keep in mind, transitions in Catalyst can only exist between different states of the same component.

I would say though the there should only be one try-catch block per thrower because theoretically each exception thrown has a different meaning for what your program should do in response.

  • Terrible sales protocol on Apple TV - they don't tell you what you really need

When I bought my AppleTV I was NOT told:
    - that I needed  2011 or later manufactured Mac laptop, to be able to stream from internet.  My 2010 machine can't do it.
    - that I needed a micro USB cable, unless I wanted to find myself with a "dead" device on a Saturday night, after a failed update.
    - that I would never be able to read the serial #,  printed in miniscule black type, on black background on the device.  What happened to the famous Apple design brilliance, with this device?
Very unhappy about this product, will not recommend it to others.  Are there better places to spread the word to others, or provide actioned feedback to Apple?

The AppleTV does not require any computer to stream from the Internet.  I suspect what you really mean is that your old MAC is not support for AirPlay Mirroring.

Most people already have a microUSB cable, especially if they have other small portable electronic devices.

  • SSD, What you would pick? What do you think?

I want to get a SSD drive in my macbook pro, like most you know there are many out there, i thought i could tell you my thoughts and the experienced people could help.
I have 2010 Macbook Pro i7, I plan to put the SSD in the optibay as on the 2010 i7 the SATA is the same speed for both HD bay and optibay. This would let me keep the HD spin down and motion detection in place. I would boot from the SSD in the optibay.
The drives i have been looking at and my thoughts:
    • OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 240GB.
Generally good reviews, quick reliable and great customer service. The new firmware has just come out but im still seeing reports of sleep/hibernation issues.
    • Crucial 256GB C300
Again great reports, slightly cheaper than the OWC (im in the UK so import tax), the main thing i see about this drive is it work or it does not, would love to hear reports from people who have it running.
    • Intel X-25 200GB+
New to the market, the big talk is about the speed, from what i can understand it would not benefit me as im limited in speed due to my SATA chip set, i thought it would be a good idea to get a faster drive as i would intent to move it to a new mac in the future.
    • OCZ Vertex 2E 240GB.
Now down in price due to the new version, again i would not see the speed boost with the new version (would i?)
So i think im asking for your thoughts and what you have running in your macbook pro SSD wise.

All OWC Extreme, OCZ Vertex 2 and Corsair Force drives have SandForce controller, which is a good alternative to keep the drive performance since Snow Leopard lacks of TRIM support. Also, all of them support TRIM command and would be ready for Lion when it will be available.
I'm in France and I faced the same doubts you do. I would go for an OWC if it was available here since it has official support to Macintosh. But due to all import inconveniences and taxes, I decided to buy a Corsair F240 and it is working wonderfully a part from the hibernation problem.
Just a tip: Once you have decided and installed your new drive, consider to take a look at http://poller.se/2010/08/optimizing-mac-os-x-for-ssd-drives/. They give very interesting tricks to increase the life of your SSD on Mac OS X.
    Cheers,

Yes, that's why I recommend one have more than TimeMachine as a backup because if certain files or folders are corrupted on the TM drive, your not logging into your migrated user account or not be able to transfer it what so ever.
Then it's a REAL PAIN and costs $99 to bit read the TM drive to get the files out, then it's mess to go through and sort all the empty placeholders from the real files as TM doesn't save duplicates in each state, just uses the previous state's copy if there are no changes.
If you create the same named user account on the new machine, and simply transfer files via a USB thumb drive and place say music contents into the Music folder, then it will work too.
Look into making clones of your boot drive, the benefit here is it's bootable, you can access the drive directly to pick and choose files, run the computer just like before etc.

  • "Click here to download the latest map app..." here's what you need to do...

It looks like they're pushing out the googlemap -> Bing maps update to the palm pre handsets now.  The process they've come up with is kind of flawed.  It's probably best to just go to the app catalog & download the new map app directly.  If you wait for them to push it to you, what happens is that once you start googlemap, instead of going to the map app, it shows a hyperlink text stating "click here to download the latest map app."  Clicking that link will keep you in the googlemap app, but will display a webpage designed for a full-size browser experience.  You will have *no* way to zoom in to see any of the text.  It's all miniscule gibberish.
Here's what you need to do.  Everything you need is on the left hand side.  The first field is a drop down letting you pick your country.  Then, there's a field where you enter in the phone number associated with your palm. Then there's a check box that you need to check indicating that you've read whatever gibberish was written on the left side.  then you click the big grey button on the lower left.
It sends an sms message to you allowing you to link to the appropriate app download.  like I said...it probably would've saved you effort to just go directly to the app catalog.

  • IS THERE A WAY TO DELETE A PURCHASE FROM IBOOKS FROM THE LIBRARY AND ICLOUD, OR AT LEAST A WAY TO HIDE WHAT YOU'VE PURCHASED IN THIS NEW APP?

Dear Apple, my name is Jack, and I recently upgraded my computer to the new OSX 10.9, which included among many other apps the iBooks one, in this new iBooks app for Mac I accidentally downloaded by mistake a sort of obscene japanese comic book, since the moment that this happened I've been trying to remove this content from my iBooks library, which is being impossible due to the fact that even if a successfully delete the book with the backspace key it still appears but with an iCloud symbol, and if I go to my iCloud settings theres no options to stop iBooks form sharing this on iCloud for there is no "iBooks" option on iCloud settings, I even followed a Tutorial on the apple web page about hiding your purchases that explains how to, but in this new version of iTunes there is no such option as "connect" under the Store menu of iTunes, or even if I make my way to my iTunes purchases this new iBook purchases does not appear. I just want to be able to open my new iBooks app without having to see this obscene japanese comic book all over the app. My request is for you people to add an option to completely remove books from the library and from iCloud, please, so far these new OSX was amazing and this is the very first time I have something to complain about.

Well as a matter of fact, I already found the solution. The option is a little bit hidden, and this will remove your purchases completely from the library and iCloud. What you have to do is this: 1.- Open iBooks app, and the first thing you will get it's your library, then at the top left corner of the window click on iBooks Store. Once iBooks store is open you will have four options at the top: "Featured", "Top Charts", "Categories" and "Top Authors", you have to click on "Featured" or "Categories" it's the same but you have to be on any of those two.
2.- Once you are in "Featured" or "Categories" at the right side of the window there's going to be your email address that you use as your apple id, and in "Categories"  you will see at the right side the topic "All Categories"  and bellow that you will see your email address again. Doesn't matter if you are on categories or featured the option bellow your apple id is going to be QUICK LINKS, and bellow that there's gonna be four options: Account. Purchased, Redeem and Support. Click on Purchased.
3.-Once you clicked on purchased and the Purchased window is open you will see in the middle of the window two options : "All" and "Not in my Library", click on "All", then you will have all your purchases, there you will only have to put the cursor on the book you want to completely delete, but without clicking on it, just putting the cursor in the book and a black cross will appear at the top left corner of the book, click on the cross, if it ask you are sure you want to hide or delete the content just click the affirmative option.
4.- In the top left corner click library again, once in your library you have to find the options that are at the very top of your screen, the ones that are in the same bar as your computer name, date and time, volume and in the case of macbooks the wifi signal and the battery. Those options are: iBooks, File, Edit, View, Go, Store, Window and Help. Click on "View" , when you get all the options of "View" you'll have to find the one that says "Show Purchases in iCloud" and most likely would have a check mark, if it does not have a check mark close it and skip to step 5, if it does have a check mark just click on this option so the check mark disappears.
5.- Last step. Now you just have to close the app, completely, so go to your dock and give a secondary click on iBooks app and on the secondary click options click Quit. Just open iBooks again and there will be there no more.
Hope this is of some help to any of you, and sorry if this was tricky or if I'm not very good at explaining. I figured this by myself so if any of you does not get this explanation just send me an email, I'll be happy to help you with it.

I do not have 'what you hear' as an option any longer with the new Titanium; I had it with my older X-Fi Fatalty, but not this new card.
I would imagine it has something to do with Microsoft trying to limit recording of DRM-protected content, and Creative bowing to their wishes.
