Placing into Drupal etc..

I have been really getting much better at all this: Now I want to package the sites into larger content management environments.
I am just now playing with Drupal and using ftp and wondering if anyone has some experience with implementing the files Catalyst generates into something as complex as Drupal pages as content. Any thoughts are super-helpful!

While I have not had any experience putting Catalyst files into Drupal I have done similar functions with Miva Merchant, Zen Cart and Wordpress and this is what I found. Since you are working with a PHP based (assuning Drupal is PHP based) Content Management system the key is getting the items in the header to goto the correct location, then separately getting the body items into the specific page you are looking to upload into. All of your URL links both in Catalyst and in the HTML, CSS, and PHP pages must be absolute. Do not use abbreviations in anything. If possible (again not a Drupal user) upload the Catalyst files to a specific directory on your FTP and point all of the links for JavaScript and SWF files to that folder. Catalyst is very picky about it's file structure (as all web based programs are) especially if you are using a linking function for your images to save on download times (making the Main.swf file smaller) so be sure to keep them all together in one folder and force the code in Drupal to goto your specific folder via absolute links.
This will be a trial in experimentation and you will get it wrong a dozen times before it comes out right but it is possible. Once you have successfully completed this please post the result on this forum so I can take a look, I am curious to see how all of this interacts with Drupal. To give a test run try to place a simple SWF from Flash first. If you can get a Flash animation to run properly you should be able to apply the same rules to getting a Catalyst project up and running.
This is an example of a site I built using Zen Cart (similar in many ways to Wordpress and Drupal) using a Flash animation in the header. I did this before I started with Catalyst and I have no idea how the two will be different but it is a start:

Png files placed into PS CC don't honour effects

G'day,
I am totally lost on this one and can't for the life of me work it out.
I'm creating graphics in IDCC which are then exported out as png files to be placed into PS CC, the problem occurs when some placed images have opacity effects within them and when the png file is created in ID, exported and placed into PS all effects are no longer honoured. For example a graphic created in AI may have a translucent shadow, placed into ID it is honoured, but then exported out as a png file and placed into PS that effect is no longer honored.
Have I missed something on the process? Time and speed and greater flexibility means it's more efficent to create from ID and export to PS, so please don't suggest alternatives as that doesn't answer the question.
To demonstrate the problem I've attached 3 files:
• a screen shot from ID;
• the png file;
and
• how that png file looks placed into PS.
Why, when exporting the selected graphic elements as a .png file is it not honouring the effects, when they are honoured in ID?

Thanks for the reply. That might be so, but that brings up the really confusing issue where a placed Illustrator CC file into ID CC has elements with transparency effects - when exporting it with other elements as a png, some transparency will be retained and others will be dropped.
An example:
The files (AI) placed into ID. The files naturally and correctly show with transparency etc. that have been applied to them in their native file, e.g the glass beaker which has multiple transparency effects.
The png...
Place the above png file into PS and it retains some of the transpancey from its native AI file and forgets about others.
which shows correctly, but place that into PS and the shadow e.g. beneath the beaker with its transparency effect is forgotten altogether and other parts retain their transparancey. But why?
So the claim that Adobe programmes have total integration across workflows etc. is not true or there is a bug? If it's neither and there's an answer I'd love to know.

Message was edited by: BrandHOUSE. The file has no layers, but it does have shadows created and applied in ID, and these are carried over into the png when exporting it. So a png does carry effects etc.

Why/how is jquery.js automatically being placed into all pages

I see that jquery.js is being automatically placed into all of my web pages (and this is a new App). Any idea why this is happening and how it's being included?

The js and css are downloading as separate files could happen in 2 scenario
If you have debug enabled the debug-option in the HTML Library Manager (Verify felix console)
You haven't embed-property all the resource OR You might have not changed the head section to include write library
For jquery-ui.js it deponds how you have configured. For default geometrixx app [1] includes apps.geometrixx-main which has configured at [2]. It has dependency on jquery (cq.jquery.ui) & hence gets included. Similar lines verify for css. As a note all default library are defined under /etc/clientlibs/foundation

Does the iPhone 4 access the 24 satellites placed into orbit by the U.S ?

I want to know the answer to this question, as I am considering several options to use OS !:25K maps like Viewranger for walking in the UK countryside.
The options I am considering are:
     1. Satmap
     2. Garmin Montana
     3. Memory Map Adventurer 3500
     4. An android phone such as HTC Desire with ViewRanger map app system
     5. iPhone with ViewRanger map app system

I know you have to have line of sight with several satellites to get a fix
I need very acurate and fast fixes of position, even though walking, one doesn't want to be hanging around to get a fix for any length of time.
Battery life and waterproofing are also to be considered, as the unit would be switched on all day.
I have Viewranger maps on my iPod Touch which doesn't have GPS technology inside. So I could transfer my App and maps to an iPhone or an android phone.
Apple do not seem to make it clear if they use the above mentioned system. If they have, then I apologise.
I would be interested to hear from any UK walkers that use the iPhone with 1:25K mapping, and how they get on with it?

I have an iPod Touch and invested in the ViewRanger mapping system for it believing it had a gps system built in.
It appears to have, as it has logo that tries to aquire satellites in the top left hand corner. But it doesn't work and after much digging I finally found, on the forum, that there is no active software in the Touch.
So I have viewRanger map system that I could transfer to any phone with gps, including Apple.
The other option is to cut my losses on the ViewRanger system and go for a dedicated gps unit that meets my needs. And this is the way I am leaning to as no one has yet convinced me to do otherwise.
The problem with Memory-Map is it is PC dependant, The maps are supplied on CDs for download from a PC to the units SD card. No maps are supplied on SD cards!!!
And although I have an Intel Mac which can riun Windows, this system involves a lot of messing around. There is no proper Mac support.
So Garmin is the front runner, with all maps available on SD cards, and with the new models due out this month, with 48 satelite and a claimed 20% faster aquisition. Acuracy should also be improved. And Garmin is Mac friendly!!

But, as you say it is a jack of all trades and master of none.
I have a Touch which I use as a PIM, and a very good one it is too.
I use Nikon cameras for photography.
And a Blackberry phone

I haven't seen any claims by Apple on the acuracy of their gps.

Firefox Don`t work with bookmark placed into site

Firefox don`t work correct with bookmark placed into site.
Bookmark is showing, cursor changing to hypelink after pointing , but nothing after clicking.
In IE working correct.

Symantec need to update their Firefox add-ons so that they are compatible with Firefox 4. The core functionality such as antivirus and firewall will still work, it is the add-ons that will no longer work. If you want to use the Norton add-ons you will need to downgrade to Firefox 3.6.
To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.

Has anyone tried changing the drummer on a drummer part that has already been placed into a track stack?
I find that if I do that, the parts in the stack all get merged together with no way to expand them (ie the triangle you would click on to expand the stack disappears).
I believe this is a bug, and wonder if anyone else has encountered it?

TS3048 My keyboard will connect wirelessly but my mouse will not. I've put new batteries in the mouse and the green light is blinking but it just won't connect!!! I don't have a 'wired' mouse so I can't get into preferences etc!!! Pls help

From what you say I would suggest the batteries are not connecting properly.
First, thoroughly clean all contacts, both inside the mouse and the contact points of the batteries. Use an alcohol based cleaner (whisky will do, hic!) dampen (not wet) cotton buds for cleaning.
Then check to see if they fit firmly. If you can shake your mouse and hear things are loose, that will be the batteries. Check the make. Apple and Duracell, in that order, are the best batteries. Where slight undersizing has been reported they are with other than the foregoing.
You can resolve the size problem with appropriate packing but that will always be a makeshift solution. After, reassemble, turn on the mouse and with luck, away you go.
Hopefully this will solve your problem but in any case let us know how you get on.

PDF Comments Disappear Upon Placing into InDesign CS5

I am creating an InDesign document in which I need to pull information from several files. One such file is a PDF with comments inserted via the typewriter tool.
Upon placing into InDesign, the comments do not appear, although the original text within the PDF does appear.
Will you please tell me if you know why this happens and if there is a workaround?

Best file format for PS and Illustrator files to be placed into ID

I'm writing a proposal using InDesign. It will be output to PDF for circulation among the team members; I imagine they will view it on a variety of screens and some will print it out on various desktop printers.
I have a variety of images, all in color, done in InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator that need to be placed into the propsal. Sizes range from 5x7 to 2x2. Some are quite complex with fine detail.
I've just viewed the proposal in ID Overprint Preview / High Quality Display. The images don't look great. Lots of ragged lines.
I usually save everything to JPEG with a quality of 80-90...but that is just a habit, I have no reason or justification for this practice.
I'm wondering if I should go back into the original ID, PS and AI files and resave them as something else before and then place them again.
Does anyone have any recommmendations or thoughts to offer?
I'm using CS4 on a MAC. My computer is a little bit underpowered for the project at hand, but I'm willing to put up with a bit of slow performance and lag if it results in a better end product.

Jagged lines is a hallmark of low resolution, not file type, or a lower quality screen preview than you think you are using. Check the Display performace settings again to be sure they really are correct, and if they're set to allow object level settings, you'll need to verify that each object is also set correctly.
Beond that, saving as .jpeg is always destructive. For the web, that's fine, but for print you should never use anything, in my opinion, but the highest quality settings for saving jpegs, and I advise again using jpeg at all. If you image is all raster data (pixels) save as .psd or .tif. If it has live type or other vector content, save as Photoshop PDF. In Illustrator save as .ai or PDF with Illustrator editing capability. If you change the extension of the Photoshop PDFs to PDP they will open in Photoshop instead of Acrobat when you use Edit Original.
As I said, the jaggies are a hallmark of low resolution. We often have people tell us that the file is 300 ppi, but it turns out that's at some very small dimension and the imaga has been scaled up in ID. Both the Links panel and Info panel can show you the resolution information for your images. There will be two numbers, actual and effective. Effective resolution is the only number that matters. For printing on a desktop printer I like to see a minimum of 150 ppi, but you might get away with as low as 90 for a non-critical image. For press 300 ppi would be the rule of thumb, and dropping below 200 is asking for trouble.
How the file looks in ID is not nearly as informative as how a PDF exported from the file looks, or prints. For a high-res image in ID you are still looking at a lower resolution screen preview, not the actual image as it will be output. Export settings that downsample too far or apply too much compression to reduce file size can also turn a good document into a clunker.

Do I need to provide the physcial hostname to iAS during installation or can I just that installed name into the /etc/hosts file?

Pls confirm if you are using Windows 2000 Pro, in this O/S the
hostname is the name of the computer itself. Check the
MyComputer->Properties->Network Identification->Properties, the name you
find under the computer name will be automatically taken while
installation, if it doesn't then there is some error. However the
C:\Winnt\System32\Drivers\Etc\hosts doesn't matter much while installing
iAS 6.0 SP1 or above. Hope this helps

I think that may be a consequence of the email provider she is using. Some services (AOL is one example) inspect and modify email attachments, particularly photos, resulting in reduced resolution compared to the email that was sent.
The iPod does not do this. The resolution of the picture in the email she receives will be identical to what is imported.

Grabbing the filename of the document a dynamic stamp is being placed into.

I need to get the filename of the "parent" document a stamp is being placed into to put into one of the stamps textfields. This was what I was hoping would work inside of stamps textfield custom calculation:

Thats a no go. For some reason activeDocs is always empty, despite the fact I have 3 pdfs open. Does anyone have any ideas on why this is not working? Have a better idea to do the same thing?

Video quality poor after placing into timeline, don't know why?

I've done some screen capture with Camtasia on a Windows machine. When I import it into FCP X the quality is fine when viewing prior to placing into the timeline. After I put it in the timeline I find that while editing that the video playback is now blurry, as is the exported media. I'm not sure what's causing this, can someone help?

I set the Playback to High Quality and that didn't help. Thanks for the tip! I'll continue to dig into this problem. What's odd is that my first few projects with learning how to use FCP I used GoPro output and I never saw this issue, but that is HD output.

Illustrator vector images loses layers when placed into InDesign

I have a illustrator image that I want to paste into InDesign - I have tried pasting and placing however it appears both ways do not paste all the image elements. See below - any ideas?

Pasting Illy artwork is for very simple drawings. Complex shapes and objects may not coming into ID exactly the way you want.
Why aren’t you placing the graphic?
