Play Station 3 Connection Problem

I've been having frequent disconnect problems when I play a PS3 game (Resistance) online using the AirPort Extreme.
Is there any way to make the connection more secure/stable?
How do you Port Forward?
How do you enter the MAC address?
Will doing these make the connection more stable?
Thanks.

superfry, Welcome to the discussion area!
Is there any way to make the connection more secure/stable?
The best solution is to use Ethernet. Other than that you can try changing the channel used by the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) until you find a channel which works better or you run out of channels. See KB 58543, AirPort: Potential sources of interference.
How do you Port Forward?
How do I use Port Mapping (Part I)
How do you enter the MAC address?
In what device and why?
Will doing these make the connection more stable?

  • AE Base Station wired connection problem..

    Okay..
I have cable internet hooked up like so:
Modem --> Airport Extreme Basestation extended by 2 AE expresses...
I use the LAN port on the AE basestation to route internet to the hardwired computer.. This has worked well until recently... I recently recieved a new cable modem that work fine when the desktop comp is hooked directly to it. When I try hooking it up to the base station this is what happens:
the airport signal will be great.. all wifi users can surf and connect to the network. The wired computer will work for about 30 mins or so then will stop recieving signal. The only way to get it to regain internet is to reset the cable modem... The wifi users Never lose signal or internet.
is my ae basestation going bad? If i dasiey chain a normal router between the modem and the basestation, there is no problem and everyone gets internet just fine.. would prefer not to have it there though.
    Any ideas?

I doubt your base station is going bad - since internet access works perfectly with another router between the cable modem and your main base station. I suggest you leave it that way. There is no downside to that type of setup, and it could save you a lot of trouble trying to find out why a direct connection doesn't work reliably. There just seem to be some combinations of ISPs and cable modems that don't work well with the Airport Base Station.

  • Airport base station and connectivity problems

    Hi all,
Heres what I know about my internet connectivity issues. I have a cable broadband (Motorola Surfboard) modem and I'm fine getting a connection when I am hooked directly from the modem into the back of my G4.
The wierd thing is that when I have my Airport (old school flying saucer shaped one) hooked up between my G4 and the modem I don't even get a signal on my tower any longer let alone my laptop. I have an ethernet cable running from the port on the base station with the circle of dots to my modem. I have a ethernet cable running from the ethernet looking port (arrows and dots) on the base station to the G4 tower.
What I don't get is why I wouldn't at least be still getting a signal to my tower? All of the appropriate lights on my modem are still lit up. I took it in a few days ago to an Apple store and the guy at the Genius Bar confirmed the Base Station is working fine. Why does my computer now not like being hooked up thru my base station? I've checked all of the network settings and all seems to be fine.
Any help or ideas will be appreciated. This is driving me nuts.
    Thanks,
    Vance

I may have misunderstood your original question. If you want to use both your older Airport as well as the newer dual band one, you certainly can, but first describe which model your older Airport is and what specifically you wish to accomplish by using both.
There's no advantage of keeping the older one in service unless one Airport base station is unable to create a wireless network with sufficient range for your needs. There are as many as three different ways of doing that depending on which older one you have: a Wireless Distribution System (WDS) which can only use 802.11b/g, an "extended" network, which can only be accomplished with an 802.11n network, or a "roaming" network in which the Airports are connected to each other using their Ethernet LAN ports. This last method is the most preferable, but obviously requires that you run a cable between them.
Use Airport Utility to configure the Extreme. Read about designing networks in the Apple AirPort Networks manual.
In any event you don't need to use both Airport base stations if all you want to do is have a wireless network that can serve both your iMac and your Powerbook. Any Airport base station Apple ever built can serve both. The newest Extreme just adds more features.

don't know why I can't access my NAS wirelessly. It was working well before - I just went to "computer" then" network" and then my NAS appeared on the box.
It is working ok when the iMac connected by a Lan cable.
Please advise which setting I did wrong.

I am getting a "connection timeout" message when trying to access my Airport Extreme with various laptops, Play Station 3 and Wii. My Airport Extreme is about a month old; it was working fine until about a week ago. Suddenly, the "timeout" is not allowing me to connect to my wireless network.

It could be that there's a new source of interference.

  • Play Station 3 and WRT54G Recent Problem

My Play Station 3 and WRT54G DID work fine (connecting to internet) and now it doesn't.   Can't connect to the Internet with WRT54G now.    Tried Chat Line but since Router is out of Warranty, they won't talk to me without $$$$.    What do you do to solve this issue.    It DID work.    Have V3.      Downloaded new software v4.21.1 but haven't installed it.   Will this be of any help or will it get worse.    I did hook up the Play Station 3 via a WIRED Linksys Router and it works fine so Play Station 3 is okay.

Before your Connect your PS3 to your wireless network, you need to check the wireless settings of your Router (SSID, Security key).
On your Computer, Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Once you login to the setup page of your Router, Click on the Wireless tab and check whats the Wireless Network Name, and then again you need to click on the sub tab "Wireless Security" and check the Security Mode and Security Key....
On your PS3, Search for your Wireless Network and attempt to connect to your wireless network....

  • Unending connectivity problems -- and Desktop Help...

I'm wasting so much time on connectivity problems that it's positively wearying. Prior to the installation of BT Infinity here in April, I had a low quality broadband service because of the length of the line from the exchange: if I could get a download speed of 1.2Mbps and an upload of a quarter of that, I was doing well.
BT advised that thanks to fibre optic, my Internet should run much faster. So we had Infinity installed. I'm registered with Speedtest.net so am able to see my performance record.
The average download speed is now aroun d 6Mbps and the average upload, more than that at 7Mbps. How an upload speed can consistently be faster than a download escapes me.
But I'm not familiar with the ways of Internet connectivity and try as a I might, can't get my head around it.
This desktop computer runs Vista OS. Vista was **bleep** when it came out and is renowned for its botched handling of Internet connections. So I'm not blaming BT for the literally unending connectivity problems that are occurring now, with line drops, speeds slowing to a crawl, and no guarantee that any connection will last. But it would be good to actually use BT software to help fathom out what's going wrong here, and today's typical morning which looks like this:
    1) Boot up computer. Automatic connection to hub via Netgear USB wireless adapter. Hub is on ground floor of this 3-storey property but signal strength from hub  is excellent, as confirmed by inSSIDer monitoring, currently showing 54 with no other networks anywhere near that figure.
    2) Perhaps 5 minutes after connection established, it's then lost. 'Local Only' is displayed. This is, apparently, a known Vista problem. But Microsoft has issued a fix for it. I know this, because it took 100 hours of ploughin g the Net to find out that MS had finally admitted to one more Vista screw-up. I've used the Microsoft router "fix it" before and it didn't work ("failed to process") so uninstalled it and have DL'd it again now and run it. This time it says it has fixed everything.
    3) Computer is re-booted to make the fix effective. Computer connects to Internet. Speedtest.net check yet again confirms that upload speed is faster than download speed.
    4) Connection dies. So much for Microsoft Fix It.
    5) Windows diagnostics reports that it can re-set the IP profile (or something.) I click yes. The re-set goes through. Connectivity is restored. 10 minutes later, connectivity is lost. Just a red X in the tray. No connection of any kind, not even that daft 'Local Connection' only alert.
    6) Reboot. Yet again. BT Desktop Help was installed here and ran OK when we were using our Netgear DSG34 router. But since the change to the BT Hub, the BT program has never run at all. So-oo. . . It has been uninstalled. And then re-DL'd and re-installed. And though the installation  has been completed, clicking on 'launch' has failed to launch anything. But anyway. An hour ago, in one of the brief periods today when the Internet connection was holding up, I Revo-ed out the earlier install, DL'd BT desktop Help and re-installed it. . . and I'm still at the same stage as always, with a  Firefox browser page that's open and completely blank and has been for the past 30 minutes. The URL is:
    file:///C:/Program%20Files/BT%20Broadband%20Desktop%20Help/btbb/Start.html
Repeated page re-loading gets nowhere. Malwarebytes PRO is turned OFF to prevent any possibility of blocking and the antivirus is termporaily SUSPENDED. This PC runs on Windows standard firewall but even turning that OFF doesn't get the page to load. Copying the address into Internet Explorer in case there's a Firefox problem merely results in Firefox being opened and the same blank page running there.
    7) After all that. . . Connection lost yet again and this time, Windows cannot connect at all. It reports that the "wireless network security key is not correct". I happen to know that it is, because this is maybe the 20th time it has reported this in the past 10 days and every time I have to key in the "correct" key all over again. . . at which point Windows still says it isn't correct and cannot repair.
Turning off the computer completely, unplugging from the wall, holding in the power switch for a full minute to clear the circuits, traipsing up and dowen three flights of stairs to turn off the hub, then wait, then turn the power back onm again. . . Ah, wot fun times I'm having here with my particular versioin of Infinity (as in, an infinity of connectivcity problems.)
Summary: I seem to be being simultaneously hit with one issue after another.
I'm bewildered as to why ever since Infinity was installed here, my upload speed is generally faster than my download speed. I'm not happy with endless Internet connection failures though am thinking that Vista is playing a large part here with its "wrong security key" and unending 'Local Only / Limited Connection' failures. I do miss my Netgear router and the ability to access a fantastic help menu and re-boot directly from the desktop without having to keep going up and down three flights of sdtairs to do so (I haven't been able to find out how toe access the BT Hub remotely.)
Above all though: I'm  really tired of repeatedly trying to run freshly downloaded and installed BT Desktop Help software but getting no further than a blank page because the program has stalled.
If anyone has any advice / suggestions, other than to buy a carrier pigeon, that'd be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

Thanks again to John and gg30340. Here's an update:
    1) BT Desktop Help removed completely from this computer. The uninstaller itself mopped up everything, which surprised me. But anyway.
    2) Bt Home Hub manager set up and working. Had to input serial number and create new password. All of this sounds fairly easy and would be if one had the device near the desk. But the idiots who built this property shoved the BT master socket inside the garage next to the door. Our two home computers are on the third floor. To ensure the wireless signal strength is OK, the Hub and Infinity module/device/whatever it's called are on a high shelf. It's a major job to even reach the darn things, never mind read the labels seeing as how the BT Infinity engineer was good enough to tidy up the cabling and make a very tight connection to the wall socket.
    3) I had hoped to be able to back up the Hub's settings, seeing as the software provides for Advanced Settings / System / Backup. But not on mine (Hub 3.0). All that System allows is choosing which internet clock to define the accurate time. Everything else in System is just a pattern of short lines as if trying to indicate that there's some text there but it's invisible. This is now my second encounter with BT software which, for whatever reason, isn't functioning as it should on this PC.
    4) Hub reset to factory fresh, according to BT guide.
    5) Reset appears to have achieved nothing apart from requiring the password to be popped in again. After reset, it wasn't even possible to connect to the hub manager. Internet connectivity was eventually established for all of 30 seconds and then, gone.
    6) Computer was shut down and then booted anew. Internet connectivity is still. . . dreadful. One minute everything's fine and then, literally,. the next minute a webpage won't load. Even opening the Hub Manager has taken three attempts, i.e., disconnecting from the Internet, re-connecting, failing, and trying twice more until success. Yet all the time these failures are occurring, the tray icon is showing a steady, unwavering green icon for Local and Internet access -- despite the fact, there manifestly isn't any.
    7) Speedtest. net tests are actually showing upload and download 'trajectories' going slower and slower and finally halting at some point on the arc, then after a period of up to 30 seconds, suddenly becoming animated again. Speed test results with broadband speed checker UK and Think Broadband's checker are so at variance with one another, and with Speedtest, net, that it seems all three are using different technologies in pursuit of the same thing. Either way, upload speeds continue to be much, much faster than download speeds, a state of affairs I certainly have never encountered before.
    8) Speedtest net tests taken in the past 10 minutes, with one test following on from its predecessor, begin at 8.24 down/8.88 up, followed by 5.24 down / 6.40 up, followed by a mind-numbingly lonnnnng 0.62 down / 8.70 up -- in other words, a continuous yo-yoin g of Internet connectivity to the pooint that it actually might as well not even be here (I've had to make five attempts just to get on to this forum. . .)
    9) BT Speedtest will necessitate disconnection of everything downstairs and all boxes being lugged up here. This is actually going to require uncoililng tied-off cabling and hanging off a stepladder to do so -- though I surely can't be the only person in Britain who doesn't have a nice, handy BT master socket in their study or lounge. That said though: until we switched to Infinity, we *never* experienced these kinds of horrendous connectivity problems and never had need to unplug the Netgear router downstairs and bring it upstairs to connect directly to tjhe desktop PC so BT's own test could be run.
I'll just have to get to work dismantling stuff tomorrow. However, I have to say that after a factory re-set which has changed nothing at all, I'm beginning to think there's a problem with the BT line itself (hence why I'm happy to follow the advice here, though less than happy at the prospect of the messing about involved.)
Thanks, you two, for your patient help, and also for clarifying the situation re the three signal paths being shown on inSSIDer. At least I know that's usual now! And now, hopefully, when I press 'Post', I won't be faced with an endlessly spinning Firefox circle culminating in  what may well be, or seem to be, the 57,938th time today of seeing "Page Not Found". . .

  • "Cannot play video - The Connected display is not supported" error message using Netflix 5.0.2 on my iPad

I'm running iOS 7.0.3 on my iPhone 4S and iPad (3rd gen) and have just upgraded to the current version of the Neflix app available in the Canadian App Store (5.0.2).
Although all other apps I've tried (e.g. Podcast, VLC) are able to properly output video & audio directly to my TV using the HDMI adapter (i.e. NOT via an Apple TV), the Netflix app pops up the error message "Cannot play video - The connected display is not supported".  If I start a video and then plug the HDMI cable in, it will play for a few seconds and then halt with the same error message.
Netflix & Apple were supposed to have been working together to fix the previous issue with this scenario which was causing audio to be output but no video.  The current Netflix app update was released yesterday and seems to have taken a step backward.
When I contacted Netflix support, they indicated that they have done whatever can be done from their side and this is now Apple's issue.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Kiron

    Hello all,
I have an iPad 2 16GB with iOS 7.0.3 and Netflix version 5.0.2. I cannot watch netflix on an External LCD monitor that I have through VGA out. I use bluetooth speakers, so the AirPlay is going to that for Audio. Before this update, this combo worked without an issue.
So as of Friday Nov. 8/2013, I contacted Netflix support, and they said they fixed the problem on their end, and the fix is on the Apple side of things, and to contact Apple support.
So, I contacted Apple support, and the first person I spoke to said I would have to agree to pay a $35 fee for 30 days of support to this problem since my unit is out of warranty. I said this isn't a hardware issue, it's a software issue, and I'm not willing to pay to fix a problem you created. So I got a Senior Level advisor on the line, and she was helpful, and she's looking into the issue for me and said she'll contact me sometime on Tuesday or Wednesday (Nov. 12 or 13) to let me know of the issue.
Here's the thing: this is a combination of Netflix and iOS not working correctly with any of the Apple Authorized Dongles. This is truly a code error that some hot shot programmer had major oversight on, and their management didn't catch it either. There was no reason for Netflix to rush to get this Netflix update going until Apple sorted out the bugs in iOS 7.
Anyway, if I hear anything from Donna (the advisor), I'll post it and let you guys know. In the mean time, good luck!

  • HP Deskjet 460 wireless printer connection problem

I just replaced my Airport Extreme (pre-n) with a Time Capsule. My HP Deskjet 460 WiFi printer no longer connects through wireless. However, configuring the Time Capsule wireless mode to "802.11g/b only" (i.e. no 802.11n) resolves the connection problem.
Any suggestion on how to get the printer to connect with 802.11n enabled?
    Thanks in advance,
    - gael

I also have an HP 460wbt and have similarly replaced my old airport base station with the TC. Without any wireless security the printer connected fine - but couldn't get connection using WPA or WEP. I've tried every combination I can - but have gone back to reconnecting the airport base station alongside the TC with bridging to the ADSL netgear modem I use. This seems a bit like overkill but I just can't get the WPA on the printer to work with the WPA personal options of the TC. Have you any ideas on this one?

  • How can i hook up my airport to my play station 3?

how can i hook up my airport to my play station 3?

Sorry, there are two versions of the 802.11n AirPort Express. The older version has a single Ethernet port; the newer one has two. Which do you have? Is your goal to connect the PS3 to the Express by wire or wireless?
Regardless of model, if you plan on connecting the PS3 by wireless, then please check out the following PS3 Support article for details on how to do so.

  • Dell Connection Problems to Airport BS

We've heard it all before - I can't connect to the Airport BS with a Dell D600 laptop running XP(SP2)when I have the encryption on the Airport set to either WEP128 or 40.
Before anyone tells me to run to the iFelix site, I have and I can't get through step 1 as the Dell won't even acknowledge that there is an available network.
If I use the Dell 1350 WLAN access tool (instead of the XP wireless wizard), it sees my SSID, but when I type in the password (yes I used the admin utility to get the HEX version), it still will not connect. I've tried both 40 and 128 bit words - no luck.
If I make the network completely open - no encryption - all works well.
I'm also running an iBook and a new MacBook off this same Airport Base station. No problems at all.
Can anyone help me figure how to hook up?

I agree with Duane use WPA, as it should work.
One of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier for people, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling people to use simple memorable WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys.
The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a Netgear client and vice versa.
One thing is a 13 character 128 bit WEP password will be hashed by all vendors in the same way (if you use 40bit WEP then a 5 character password is required).
Though sometimes not even that works and the HEX key must be used regardless.

What is dropping I guess is the question? Is it wireless? Is it your WAN connection? You need to identify where the problem is.
To do that you need to try a few things.
    1. If you use wireless then bypass it and use ethernet if that is possible.. even just drag things around so you can test if ethernet fixes it. If so and wireless is in fact the problem.. then you can do a few things.
    2. Wireless issues with the 7.6.4 firmware are common. Did you upgrade about the time the problems started? I am afraid the bad news is, downgrading is not like in the past where it fixed things.. 7.6.4 seems to have some permanent effect on the TC and it is never quite the same again. How this is even possible I have yet to determine.
The usual fix is factory reset.
Set wireless with short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. Different name for 5ghz.
Make sure security is WPA Personal  with pure alphanumeric password of 8-20 characters.. unless you are more paranoid.
Fix the wireless channels and test in order. 11, 8, 6, 1
And for 5ghz try the lowest channel, 36 and then a high one, around 150.
    3. No improvement factory reset again.. downgrade to 7.6.1 or even 7.5.2 if it is an older Gen4 .. at 18months it might be old enough.. no harm trying. Factory reset again after the downgrade to see if we can get rid of the memory effect.. then try the above steps again.
No luck.. whatever the upgrade did it did permanently.. no fix is available until Apple pushes out a new firmware to fix what they did in the last one. Buy a different wireless router for now and use the TC in bridge just for TM backups.

  • Power supply connection problems

I have an HP Compaq 6715b and have gone through several power supplies - it does not take long before I lose connection between the male/female connection. I try to be gentle but this keeps happening, what is the problem? Is there a problem at the female end (inside the computer)? Would a docking station solve the problem? It seems to be an expensive solution jjust to get power.
    Thanks
    Greg

What is rating of the AC Adapter you got?
Based on the specification, you should be using a 90W AC Adapter such as 463955-001.
If you were using a 65W AC Adapter, then it is likely the 65W AC Adapter were running too hot and in turn cut down the life expectancy of this 65W AC Adapter.
If you were using a 90W AC Adapter, I think you are just unlucky to get some of the bad units.
Yes. A Docking will help. It is because it uses a 135W AC Adapter to the docking station and your laptop will get power via the docking connector at the bottom of your notebook.
However, there are so many type of HP docking stations and you need to make sure to order one for your notebook.
