Playback of canon camcorder on ipad2

How do I playback my camcorder on ipad2? I have it connected using hdmi

HDMI provides output from the iPad 2 to a display eg TV.
HDMI is not for input to your iPad. You cannot playback the outpur from your camcorder on an iPad.

  • On Location Not Recording Canon Camcorder

Ok ii know canon camcorder isnt exactly the greatest, but i did just find out why it wouldnt record.
a little history....It would show video on screen, record button looked armed, but hittin it would not record anything.
however other software and even premiere would control playback and capture whatever was on tape.
so looking at previous post about webcam got me thingking, i had a install of camtasia v3 and it was showing up as a possible source in
    on location.
    so i uninstalled it.
now i can record grainy video with my canon camcorder.
of course i get the impression this may relate to other higher priced camera's as well.
    so consider yourself informed.
    be weary of Camtasia.

Thanks for this additional info, PhotoJoe. I've added this detail to the bug report.

  • Want to record edit and burn dvds of videos from canon camcorder what is the best way

what is the easiest way to transfer recordings from my canon camcorder hd to dvds after editing. The new imovie does not have idvd on it to burn dvds.

I'm assuming you're editing in iMovie? If you still have an older retail version of iLife, you can use that to install iDVD - I am using it with mavericks. Or, the retail 09 and 11 iLife disks are still available at some online resellers. The best thing out there still is iDVD with its customizable menus, themes, etc. However, there are other options for just burning: one good ons is Roxio Toast; then there is the free app Burn (basic I'm told, but works). Or google for others. Personally, I'd get iDVD.
The new iMovie (or the older versions) did not have iDVD built in - it's just a link to the iDVD application. FWIW, I prefer to use the older iMovie versions because they have more quality options to choose from when exporting. With the new iMovie, choose to export to file and choose your recording size and then you can drag that file into a burning app (or iDVD if you get it).

  • PS CS6 Processing of Canon Camcorder AVCHD Files

Trying to process MTS outputs from my Canon Camcorder. Files run in WMV and Windows Live Movie Maker (needs to wait while the files are uncompressed). WHen opened if PS CS6 files is present. When playing, frame rates drop to as slow as 3 fps. I have a quad processor and as I have indicated, the files play at normal speed. Have tried saving but have seen that the saved file is also dropping frames.

    Jeff
I had to build a new system to run Premiere Pro CS5 with 1080p H.264 files from a Canon DSLR, and they are similar in that they are highly compressed, which means a lot of work for the processor. You are running Windows, so bring up the Task Manager and monitor CPU and memory usage while CS6 tries to play your video. I am betting one or both will be maxed out. There is a difference between playing the file in Media Player and Photoshop, because the former does not need to decompress the file on the fly. Photoshop does.
In order to satisfactorily view my DSLR footage on the timeline, I built a system with an 17 3930K six core running at 4Ghz with 32Gb RAM and a GTX570.  When I first tried this system it still wasn’t coping because the drives were not fast enough, and I had to create a couple of raid0 arrays.  I am now able to smoothly scrub through anything I care to throw at Premiere Pro. I have not tried video with Photoshop CS6, but I would imagine the same constraints would apply.  What we need in this thread is for people with mid spec’d systems who have tried CS6 with 1080p H.264 or AVCHD, to say how their systems faired.
If Photoshop CS6 does have the same sort of system requirements as Premiere Pro, then you’ll find all the info you need over on the Premiere Pro hardware forum, But Bill Gehrke spends time here, and will likely have something to say.

  • How do you "import" AVCHD 60P from Canon camcorder so it can be "converted" for iMovie?

Low-tech guy here.  I don't know video formats and I don't edit video often.  I used my new Canon VIXIA HF R400 camcorder to record high-quality video (AVCHD 60P) not realizing when I connected my camera to my MacBook Pro the video does not even appear for import onto the computer.  I realize I have to convert the format to one iPhoto and iMovie will recognize, but my question is how do I even get my computer to see the video on my camera so I can drag it into a converter software?  I see several chats about how to convert, which assumes the software can see the video on the camera - my problem is I can't even get my computer to see the video so I can then import and covert it.  I've tried Bigasoft AVCHD converter software and the AVCHD Converter by iFunia, but neither software sees the video.  (The Bigasoft doesn't even recognize my camcorder.  iFunia recognizes the camera but doesn't see the video clips.)

Thank you for trying to help me.  I may just be hopeless.  As I mentioned I don't know my video formats (though I've tried to learn now).  I just upgraded to Maverics (thank you!) and was pleased to see that now iMovie recognizes my Canon camcorder, but it does not "see" my individual video clips.  The thumbnails are just blank and I'm not able to check mark any of them (see image).  Maybe the format is just too high-quality for iMovie?  It's AVCHD 60P (or 1080p?)  I don't know what the difference is between the two.  iMovie used to be so simple I didn't need to know that.  I just wanted to put together a simple movie quickly.  I'll have to let go of the dream and let go of iMovie!  LOL  Again, thanks for trying to help!

  • My Canon Camcorder is not seen in iMovie or my iMac!!

    Hello,
I recently bought a Canon camcorder MV800i. It has a firewire port to connect with a computer.
I tried connecting it by using a 6-6pin cable and a 6-4pin adapter. I turned the video camera on, in VCR mode. And I get nothing on my computer or my camera that indicates that the camera is hooked to computer. There is nothing else helpful in the camera manual or the iMovie Help.
Also in system profiler, when I click on "Firewire", nothing is mentioned about anything connected. Only the speed of the Firewire.
Any clues??????? The camera is supposedly compatible with Mac and it says it needs no driver and I actually can't find any driver for it on their website.
    What's wrong here??

DO"NT Take what I say ouy of context !
The SONY Handyam DV DIGITAL8 are execllent camcorfers and are very good machines. They work seamlessly with my eMac- truly just PLUG IN AND PLAY. This what Firewire and Mac is ALL ABOUT. My first SONY DIGITAL8 is over 3 years old and has some 200+ campaigns behind it. MY videos were taken at outside athletic carnivals, under ALL Sydney weather conditions- i.e. except snow. So this is why over the last 15 years, I have "worn out" 2 older VHSC cameras and the one DV Handycam.
With my 3 year old Handycam, the constant connecting and disconnecting of the Firewire cable has left the Firewire outlet DUD. SO, what do I do? If I took it to a SONY expert, they would tell me I have had GOOD use of my WELL WORN OUT Hangycam, so go buy me a new one. BUT I was advised that the DV, Firewire ideal is no longer used with ANY new state-of-the art camcorder. WHY ?
I still needed a DV Sony replacement as I have some fifty 8cm tapes I have kept of video takes of OUTSTANDING performances by some of my athletes. So, I purchased some months ago a Handycam Digital8 not-state-of-the-art camcorder for HALF the price I paid for my first DV machine.
OK, where does this leave me, especially three or so years in the future? Stick my head in the sand and stick with the now obsolete DV video format ? LOOK somewhere else-i.e. buy a different brand ? WHY has the DV format been abanded ?
Irrespected of what our Discussion Group so called by them GURUS say, DV with small Camcorders is no longer viable. MODERN camcorders are using 8 cm DVD or Hard Drives as the saving media. MY past experience with both DVD disks AND Hard Drives is not at all reassuring. What happens when a Hard Drive in a camcorder gives up? Under NORMAL heavy handed conditions encounted in camcorder use? Hard Drives - the present generation ones- will PACK UP "pretty soon now". Are the camcorder makers working on a replacable HD disk model ? This would be similar to the now outdated ZIP concept but with an HUGE upgrade in capacity- my past bad exoeriences with ZIP drives and their media suggests not.
So, this leaves, NOW at least, the DVD camcorder ! They are very well priced and a lot less bulky than my old Sony DV Handycam/ They have the potental of giving me a GREAT increase in RESOLUTION and picture quality,
I went and bought a Sony DVD Handycam Model DVD703E with HD capacity. EVERY NEW concept has it's limitations !
After USING the camera for the last 9 months, iis "faults" are-
---The DVD RW media is not really suitable for the conditions encounted in the REAL world. In favour is that the camcorder TELLS me this and I can QUICKLY and EASILY replace the 8 cm DVD disk "on-the-run". Afier some 50 "takes", I have yet to be left wih an unusable Handycam. Batteries ? Well that is another story !
--- The mpeg2 codex used by Sony is not up to movie picture DVD quality- SONY is working on this as well as numerous other software "experts'.
    The PROS are-
+ Ignoring the artifacts given with compression used in mpeg2, the pictures taken with my DVD Handycan are just as good as my NEW DV X20 Handycam.
+With the active 1M CCD, I can take EXCELLENT STILL phoios which can be enlarged to A4 size.
+ The Handycam is very light and easy to use.
+ Although lacking Firewire, I CAN export both VIDEOS and STILLS directly through USB 1- you don't need USB2, something my old eMac lacks.
+ you can easily convert mpeg2 files into QT files for export into iMovie, the quality of the QT file depending only on the codec used. UNFORTUNEATELY, high quality comes with very long encoding times- up to 12 hours for a 30 minute DVD.
So, the MYTH that you can't use iMovie for DVD files is that-a urban MYTH , unfortuneately created by some chronic posters to this Discussion Group.
MOST of these chronic misinformed posters don't OWN OR USE a videocam, let alone use any version of iMovie.
Sorry, this post is so LONG, but so is my REAL experience in the world of amateur video taking.
PS I will persist uniil some sense gets into the so called GURUS in this Forum.

  • Which Canon Camcorder has the best built in microphone for recording musical instruments

Which Canon Camcorder in the affordable price range has the best built in onboard microphone for recording musical instruments
    Thanks.

    TheBee,
    Thanks for writing!
The built-in microphones on the camcorder are fairly similar.  When you're recording music, we recommend the use of an external microphone.
The mic you use really depends on what you're recording and where.
So we may better assist you, please provide a bit of information regarding the type of recordings you'll be making, the music and the setting (i.e. what kind of venue, your distance to the music, etc).

  • Canon Camcorder in EP mode convert for iMovie via Quicktime Pro?

Good day everyone. I have a project to do and need to capture some video from a Canon camcorder that recorded the video in EP mode. Unfortunately, I did not know that iMovie cannot work with EP video, only SP and LP. Can Quicktime Pro capture such EP videos and convert it to a format iMovie can work with? I am connecting the camcorder via Firewire just as an FYI. Thanks for any help/advice.

Assuming EP is equally fraught with problems with Quicktime (and I'd suspect it may be), if you can get another video camera temporarily do this - output the first camera using the analog audio and video cable to the AV inputs of a second camera, and then connect that (2nd) camera to iMovie and capture (so to speak) through the 2nd from the first.
    So - Camera 1 ---A/V out---A/V in --Camera 2---Firewire out----Computer
This is called A/V passthrough and works with VHS tapes and the like and since EP must be pretty low quality I doubt it will suffer much more with one pass this way.
Or a device like an Elgato EYE TV will allow you to connect the analog A/V out to its inputs and record for subsequent use in iLife.

Did you get any joy with answering this?
My first thought was that maybe when you imported you chose to leave the files  in place rather than copy then to the iMovie library..but I can't see where that option is now.
I too have created a short movie from load f clips..but can't export or share either..the 'Share 'menu is empty..you go to it and no sub menu appears.

  • FCP and a Canon camcorder - transferring

I have a Canon Legria HV40 camcorder. I've many hours of documentary video footage recorded on MiniDV tape.
I am having an issue with transferring the footage to the Apple computer.
Frames are being lost when transferring footage. The frames that are lost are always (as far as I can tell) at the beginning and end of each clip. I'm not sure if clip is the right word here but I'm understanding a 'clip' to be created every time I start and stop recording on the camera.
I tried iMovie '09 (Full, recording to a FireWire HDD) and for every clip iMovie systematically loses the first half second to full second of the beginning and end of each clip as recorded on the camera.
I checked the playback on the camera and all of the information that should be there is there, and plays back on the LCD or on a TV without problem.
I tried QuickTime to see if behaved better; it did. Less seconds and frames were lost, but still some frames were lost.
I tried Final Cut Pro and the situation was better again. However still one or two frames at the beginning of some clips were lost.
Is this all normal? What am I doing wrong? Please help me, I'm desperate and have about 20 hrs of tapes to go through!
    Thanks!!!

If you're only missing one or two frames you're very lucky. Most camera operators shooting HDV allow five to seven seconds preroll and postroll. There's always substantial loss due to the the GOP structure of HDV and capturing it on the fly.
Tom, thanks for the info: you sure made me feel lucky! Okay, thanks for the info.
I've had a bit of a revelation. If I transfer in Final Cut Pro with the 'new clip on camera start/stop/' turned off I have no dropped frames or missed frames at all... at all.
Is there a way to later split up the clips based on timecode jumps?? This would sort me out completely!

  • My new Canon HF R400 makes clicking sound on playback. Canon replaced but still clicking sound. Same

Clicking sound on playback so annoying on most clips that I mute sound which is not the way I want my video to play. When I contacted Canon teck support they replaced but replacement has same problem. Either a terrible coincidence or something I'm doing wong. Please advise.

    Hi starwatcher!
    Thanks for posting.
Try setting the camcorder on a tripod or a flat stable surface, then turn the Image Stabilizer off in the menu under [Other Settings] > > [Image Stabilizer].
When you record new video after doing both things above, do you still hear the clicking noise?

  • Better playback of  Canon 5D Mark 2 footage in 4.1?

    Hi,
since the update installations gives me errors all the time (my post here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/439764?tstart=0 ), I can't verify this myself:
The readme of the PPro update say, that h.264 playback/handling is improved. So I was wondering, if the playback of native Canon 5D mark 2 files falls into this section also.
I'm not talking about proxies or cineform's neo etc. I mean the raw quicktime footage from the camera...native...
Since Canon annaunced yesterday that FULL MANUAL control (aperture, ISO, shutter) will be availible on june 2nd, this is pretty much the last (and 25p support in the cam) hurdle for editing the 5DII footage.
    Please let us know!
    Martin

I would try it out right away, but I'm not able to update my Production Premium for about 4 hours now. Well, I can download it, but the instalation quits with 3 errors. I made an extra post about it, but so far nobody seems to have the same issue.
I read that somebody had some other issues with instalation, so maybe the uploded files aren't that "perfect" because adobe wanted it up by the end of may (like they said the would
I've seen a few comments on installation errors already. Hope that that gets solved. It would be tough finally getting the long-awaited 4.1, only to find that it would not install, and may even mess things up. Fingers X'ed here. I also hope that Adobe was 100% satisfied with their efforts, and there was no Midnight-coding, as it was headed out the door.
As for the footage from the Canon - I've only heard great things about it. Some of the after-market folk have already gotten on the bandwagon with all sorts of add-ons for it on the video side. There were a couple of interesting ads in last month's American Cinematographer. Apparently some companies feel that there will definitely be a market for "stuff" to use this camera and its lenses for doing some serious video work. Time will tell. Though I'm a Nikon-guy* on the still-side of life, this Canon does look sweet. Hope that 4.1 is all that users could ask for. Again, the fingers are X'ed.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
    * since my wife went digital, all of her point-n-shoot still cameras have been Canon. Now, I do not store these in the same room with my Nikons, but I do like their choices better than what Nikon offers.

  • Movie playback from Canon T2i is jerkey

Movies shot with my Canon T2i DSLR playback seems very jerkey when played from iPhoto'11 or iMovie'11. It seems like it plays a few frames and suddenly skips one, then the process repeats. Anyone know of a way to resolve this?
I downloaded the same movie from my camera to my PC (running Windows 7) and it plays just fine in Windows media player!!
Anyone know if this is a known problem in Quicktime?

  • Canon camcorder + scratch disk questions

I have a Canon Optura 50 (I now know that was not the best choice!). But, given what I have and I can't buy a new camcorder for a while, I would like some advice and clarification.
I have been following the thread on dropped frames and the do's and don'ts of internal vs external hard drives (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?forumID=936&threadID=680582). The consensus seems to be that (a) it is not a good idea to use the internal drive as the scratch disc, and (b) best to use an external FW drive and daisy chain the camera to FW drive to computer.
With the Canon I take it I cannot daisy chain it due to it's FW hardware quirks of not liking anything else on the FW bus at the same time as video capture, correct?
Am I going to run into major problems with my internal drive, since I use it as the scratch disk? I capture to the internal, and then move all the files to the external for editing in FCE.
Is there anything else I should know or do? I have created several projects in FCE, with success. I am slowly learning more as I go, and this forum has been a great help.
    Lisa
iMac 20" Intel Core Duo 2Ghz 1.5gb RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   FCE 3.5; Seagate 250 GB FW external

With the Canon I take it I cannot daisy chain it due to it's FW hardware quirks of not liking anything else on the FW bus at the same time as video capture, correct?
I have my Canon daisy chained through my external HD with no problems. Ever. So I am forced to believe either I have been blessed with enternal luck (knock on woodcrest) or convince myself the consensus that there is a specific problem with Canon cameras being daisy-chained has been the direct effect of pure coincidence and speculation. One will truly never know if a specific set-up will work until they try it out for themselves so go ahead and daisy chain that Canon away and see if you have problems.
And as far as using an external disk as your HD goes...
If you have the FC Express User Maual, take a look at Chapter 12 titled "Determining Your Hard Disk Storage Options" starting on page 153. If you don't have the manual feel free to check it out online here on Apple's website. Be aware it's a 26.5 MB link so it might take awhile to load but I'll highlight the juicy stuff for ya:
    The manual states:
"By default, Final Cut Express HD uses the hard disk on which the application is installed
as your scratch disk to store captured and render files. Ideally, you should use a hard
disk other than your main system disk as your scratch disk."
    It goes on to mention:
"The data rate of the video you capture depends on the format of the source video and
the codec you use for capture. The data rate for DV and HDV is 3.6 MB/sec.: Whatever
disk drive technology you decide to use, your storage disk’s sustained transfer speed
must be fast enough to keep up with the data rate."
The MBP can have a 7200 drive installed in it and that's not really the point. The point is it's just not reasonable to think that ONE HD, even if it's a 10,000 Raptor, can read the information to run the Operating System, Application, AND read your video/audio data all at once without expecting hiccups. You need your System drive to run your OS and Apps. and your seperate Scratch Disk for your Media (not a partition of your System Drive). Simple as that.
Not saying the other way isn't possible, it's just not recommended. If Apple doesn't recommend it then I won't regardless of status.
