Playing .MOV MIDI files in iTunes 10.4

In November last year I saved hundreds of old piano roll MIDI files in QuickTime format and added them to my iTunes library. They played quite happily in iTunes on the Snow Leopard OS.  I have just updated to Lion and now the new version of iTunes 10.4 will not play them. I get this error message:
This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes.
Why would they remove functionality from iTunes in this way and no longer support MOV files in iTunes? Seems a retrograde step to me.  Does anyone know what I can do to restore my functionality. I spent days getting the metadata right for these files and do not want to lose my work.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or a solution.
Steve

Ah, I have resolved this myself by opening iTunes in 32-bit mode. Now plays these midi MOV files okay. How annoying that they did not provide inbuilt support for this in 64-bit in the Lion release. I assume no-one at Apple considered it a possibility...

    Hi there,
    You may want to varify that your system meets the minimum system requirements for viewing HD content. Take a look at the article below for more information.

    Is the "software update" for iTunes 12?  Or something you did to the iPod?

  • Playing two midi files at once using threads?

    Hi all, I have the following simple code here which plays a midi file, but I'm not sure how to use threads to play two midi files at once:
    import org.jfugue.*;
    import javax.sound.midi.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class MidiPlayer {
    public static void main (String [] args) {
    try {
    Player player = new Player();
    player.playMidiDirectly(new File("C:\\Sounds\\bach.mid"));
    } catch (IOException e) {
    } catch (InvalidMidiDataException e) {
    Is there a way to use a thread for this class so that in another class I can call 'start' twice and have the parameters be the midi file locations (e.g. "C:\\Sounds\\bach.mid" & "C:\\Sounds\\bach2.mid").
    Any kind of help would be great, thank you!

    Something like the below.
    import org.jfugue.*;
    import javax.sound.midi.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class MidiPlayer {
    public static void main (String [] args) {
    String fileName = "c:\\Sounds\\bach.mid";
    Thread t1 = new Thread(new MyRunable(fileName));
    t1.start();
    String fileName2 = "c:\\Sounds\\bach2.mid";
    Thread t2 = new Thread(new MyRunable(fileName2));
    t2.start();
    } // main
    class MyRunnable implements Runnable {
    private String fileName
    public MyRunnable( String fileName) {
      this.fileName = fileName;
       public void run() {
         Player player = new Player();
        player.playMidiDirectly(new File(fileName));
    } // MyRunnable
    } //

  • Is there a way to play a MIDI file?

    I would love to use Mainstage2 but is there any way to play a midi file now? I have an external DMX controller that gets it commands from MIDI and is programed to match the playback tracks. So far my only solutions have been to use Ableton LIVE or DP.
    Thanks
    Chris

    If you're still looking for a solution to this problem, you should try out the newest version of SysEx Librarian (http://www.snoize.com/SysExLibrarian/). There is an option in the preferences to enable a column where you can set a program change number per sysex (midi) file. Then you can set MainStage to route midi program changes to SysEx Librarian, and whenever a program change gets sent out (either by a mapping or because you switched patches) it will play out the midi. Works great for me!

  • How to recognize midi files with iTunes 10.6 ?

    iTunes 9.0 recognizes midi files and can it be easily converted into mp3 files.
    For the interfacing with iPad2 I must use iTunes 10.6 and it seems this version is not recognizing midi files.
    How should I do to manage midi files with iTunes 10.6 ?
    Is there in App Store any application with this feature ?
    Really it's a pity that a new iTunes version loses fatures instead of gaining !!

    The MIDI files in my library still work perfectly. It may be that you simply need to install QuickTime which is no longer installed as part of iTunes.

  • ITunes won't play .mov QuickTime files anymore

    My hard drive crashed two weeks ago and it has been replaced and almost all of the information was salvaged--thank god!
    However, now in iTunes when I go to play a movie that previously played in iTunes, it says that the file requires QuickTime and that it is not supported by this version of iTunes.
    I have over 9,000 movies in my iTunes MOVIES section that are of various formats (none are flv or avi, as I don't think iTunes has ever played those).  I've never had trouble playing mov, mp4, m4v, mpg files before.  Is this likely a problem with my reinstall of iTunes or is it that the latest version of iTunes has limited parameters than prior versions?
    Thanks for any imput.  I'd really like to be able to play all of my movies in iTunes like I could before.
    Chad

    I'm sorry that I have no solution to offer, but I also have noticed that several video files with the .mov extension that used to play just fine will no longer play in either the current QuickTime Player or in the older QT Pro Player 7. I have no idea what changed.

  • Playing a .cdr file through iTunes

    I have a .cdr file of a movie that I want to play on my tv through my apple tv but I can't import the .cdr file into iTunes.  How can I play the movie on my tv?

    Since both iTunes and WMP are having trouble with playback of the CD, it is likely it is not burning correctly. Try the burn one more time with CD Text turned off and the burn speed set to 2X, and see if that helps.

  • How to edit move rename files in iTunes

    how to edit move rename files in itunes

    I don't like iTunes.
    I don't want iTunes to keep the physical location of my files because they can be on a SD card, or an USB drive and i don't want iTunes to stop me from playing a song because it cannot find it anymore.
    So i would like to use physical files just to upload to iTunes Match and then delete the link to the physical file.
    If needed, iTunes Match will download the file.
    The problem is just that i would like to delete all references to physical files to make iTunes Match download the file only when needed and stop using the first version i had given to it
    maybe i could have a Apple Script to check if there is a physical file referenced and if so delete it to have only the Cloud version

  • Importing .midi files into iTunes library

    Hello! Can anyone please tell me how to import .midi files into my iTunes library, then convert those files into .mp3 to burn onto a CD?
    Thank you for your help!

    Does this midi file play elsewhere?
    I am getting the file from another location on my hard drive, not from a CD.
    Doesn't matter. File -> Add file to library will work if the file is compatible.
    Also, when trying to change the import settings, it seems to be for importing from a CD, not from another file location.
    It is for importing or converting.

  • Can no longer drop a MIDI file into iTunes library

    Using Tiger on a G4 iMac, I could drop a MIDI file into my iTunes library and convert it to an mp3 (or other format).
    Can't get this to happen now that I'm using Leopard on a new machine (see below) - or is there a different way of doing it in Leopard?
    With thanks,
    Gilly

    Answering my own question - had iTunes set to Show Duplicates - therefore couldn't see MIDI I dropped in.

  • Artwork for midi files in iTunes

    I have many midi files in my itunes that I output to midi instruments and a piano. I know how to put album artwork with an mp3 or other formats in itunes and haven't had any problems there but I can't get album artwork to work with a SMF (standard midi file) in format 0 or 1. Can midi file just not have artwork? Any ideas?

    Midi files dop not have tags for artwork.
    You could convert them to AAC/MP3 in iTunes and add artwork.

  • Why does Quicktime 7.1 Pro stop playing my .MID files after only 30-40 secs

    My MIDI files have the sustain pedal permanently depressed, and after 30 - 40 seconds, Quicktime 7.1 Pro goes silent when replaying them. This does not happen on other computers such as Windows XP using a Soundblaster card. I assume that it is a fault with Quicktime. If I click on pause, then play, then playback resumes for a while and then cuts out again.

    More details. Running on Windows, CPU usage climbs steadily to 100% then the music cuts out. CPU usage remains at 100%. Running on a MacBook, CPU usage climbs to 25%, then the music cuts out. CPU usage remains at 25% until the end of the MIDI playback. This problem applies to Quicktime for Macintosh and Quicktime for Windows.

    rfromla jolla,
    What I'm hearing now is that any NSA still needs some iTunes interface to "go through".  I'm going to use iTunes on my iMac as the pass through.  I keep it running just about all the time.
    You can use the little Apple Mac mini fine.  If I were rich I'd do that.....
    Oh well.....
